Came to this area to check it out, stopped in for some sushi. Ordered a $39 platter, was pretty big for 2 people for lunch. Loved the care and special touches on the torched sushi, each type had 2 to 4 pieces and they all had little touches like pickled ginger on top or special sauces where the citrus flavour provides refreshing notes. The inarizushi (bean curd wraps) were delicious, the shrimp ones specially had 3 shrimps and the flavour just pops. This cold dish is amazing on a hot day. The box displays nicely as you will see in the pictures. The place is nicely decorated with tons of anime and popular show posters on the walls. Place is clean and well kept Staff has minimal contact but they they did bring out my takeout food to the table I was waiting at. You scan the QR code order and pay from the site. I usually don't leave reviews, but I felt as though I need to share my story. We went on a Wednesday late afternoon and since it was my first time, I wasn't sure if they wanted me to order online or just through the front. "Jessica" said she got my order (I had shown her the order on my phone) and said I could pay directly at the machine. I got a copy of the receipt through text. 15 minutes later, she gave us our tray and we started eating at one of the tables. I went through the menu online and noticed that it was shrimp in the roll, and not salmon as stated. I asked her about it and she said, "That's what you ordered." I explained that I ordered the "32 piece Rumbling" and didn't make any chances to it. I had paid for it as per her instruction. I even showed her the receipt. Jessica said she didn't even put my order in and that she thought I was the "6:20pm customer". She turned around and continued to go back to her packing. No apology was given about the mix up at all. I told her moving forward, she should check and confirm what her customers have ordered before making assumptions. We don't live far, but this would not be a place that I would return to. read more

I learned about both Cafe Mozaiko locations through two different Yelp experiences. This Markham location was the first one that I had visited two summers ago. I loved the aburi (torched) sushi from this experience. I didn't return to this location until recently. It's mainly because the hours at its Richmond Hill location worked better for me than this one. Last Saturday, I noticed that Uber Eats had a BOGO deal on a number of items. It was the perfect opportunity to revisit this eatery in Cathedraltown and take advantage of these deals. I got the following items: - Aburi salmon ochi sushi (three pieces x 2) - Aburi shrimp ochi sushi (three pieces each x 2) - Lychee jasmine iced tea I was maybe twenty minutes away from this eatery. My order was ready halfway through my drive over here. It was pleasant at around 6 pm. It's free street parking. I had no problem finding a free spot steps away from the main entrance. It felt great walking through the door to head inside this eatery again. The tables and chairs for dining were still there. Friendly staff behind the prep area said hi. I liked the welcome. I indicated that I had an Uber Eats order. It was indeed ready. I got my drink and food handed to me. The nice woman said that I could grab a colourful straw for my tea. Naturally, I got a purple one. I thanked everyone and happily left with my dinner. I then had a smooth ride home. After I had put away all my groceries, I had dinner. I started with my tea. The lychee jasmine iced tea was yummy. It was slightly sweet. I enjoyed the flavourful jasmine tea. The lychee was subtle, but it took off a bit of the jasmine tea edge. It was my first time having it. I'd get it again. The aburi sushi was amazing, as usual. The aburi salmon ochi sushi was delicious. Each bite melted in my mouth. Torched sushi is always excellent here. The same goes with the shrimp version. The shrimp was torched nicely and was cooked perfectly. Not rubbery. It tasted fresh. This location recently added tofu pockets to its menu. A few months ago, you could only get them only at the Richmond Hill location. It's nice that they feature the same items at both locations now. I attended a Yelp Elite event at this restaurant a couple years ago and have been a regular customer since! They have many excellent options to choose from and I am on their mailing list and regularly receive discount codes that I can use to order online. I normally order something from the lunch special and would highly recommend the Aburi Kabayaki ($15.00)! It contains 6 pieces of Aburi Salmon Oshi and 6 pieces of Aburi Shrimp Oshi. It is made fresh so it takes about 20 minutes for the order to be ready. Absolutely love this spot! So delicious! The restaurant is along the shops at Markham Cathedral town, parking is on the sides of the streets. Was quite busy when I got there, so I had to drive up and down the street a few times before finding a spot. Going into the restaurant you know the owner love all things anime! There's anime posters and figurines everywhere in the shop which is a cute touch. This spot is more of a take out style/ order at the counter and seat yourself. Owner is super nice and friendly. Good take out experience from Cafe Mozaiko. I always wanted to try out this restaurant and it's just minutes away from my home but never got the chance to. I ordered the grilled salmon and aburi sushi combo. I got there at the suggested pick up time and the food was ready to be picked up. I didn't need to wait and the food was fresh and hot. I added the Royal milk tea for $2.5 as it doesn't come with a drink. Overall, the aburi sushi is good and salmon tasted fresh. The only thing is the rice that comes with the grilled salmon was a little harder than my liking but overall I think the price is $15 is reasonable and good experience overall. read more

Saw some amazing reviews and pictures, so i decided to stop by and try some torch sushi Its a relatively small store (3-4 tables), was planning to dine-in, but with only 3-4 tables, we ended up getting takeout instead. I ordered the Aburi Salmon Duo since im a salmon Addict the order is made fresh in front of my eye, which was pretty cool. FYI: if your looking for fancy sushi skills. This is not the place for you. I think its more like a small family business. Taste wise: 4/5. It taste not bad, i prefer the one with the black fish eggs on top. The other one just has mayo on it which some people may think its too heavy after the 3/4 piece. - and its on the pricey end for sushi. 12 pieces for $21 seems a bit $$. Overall i would rate it a 4. It's all about Japanese comics/animation and aubri sushi. Aubri sushi means seared sushi so all of our sushi are seared. Although most people choose takeaway, there are four tables for those who prefer to stay. There's a tv that plays Japanese animation, and it happened to be One Piece on the day we visited. We ordered Stohess District and Spy Family. The portion is huge and generous. Look at the tofu pocket! Stohess District is all about salmon with mayo and teriyaki sauce drizzled on top; seared salmon and tofu pocket filled with sushi rice and salmon. I guess it's great for salmon lovers. Spy Family (holiday edition) is $10 more than the original version, which I guess the difference is there's more salmon in the holiday one. It comes in three flavours: wasabi (green), sweet (with cooked shrimp), teriyaki (with black flying fish roe). I personally love how they decorate the wall with lots of posters!! While I do enjoy the concept of their cafe, I unfortunately didn't feel it was anything special. Food was quite average and if I'm being honest felt like it was heavily sauced with kewpie mayo. The aburi aspect was quite weak and only slightly torched. The sushi rice was made well and seasoned ok. I also got the oyakodon which was ok, but nothing special. Price wise I would say is decent for the meals in general, however quality isn't the greatest. Not much customer service too so it was really a 'department store' feeling. I've waited... I've waited a long long time to review mozaiko. From its predecessor... I think it was an italian cafe... to when Mozaiko first opened where I bought an iced genmaicha from them to now Mozaiko having a separate location along highway 7.... I finally managed to muster up some energy to whip up a review on Mozaiko. As they say procrastination is an enemy of success... the success of writing a Yelp review, that is. Through the years it looks like they've kept the anime theme going. They were putting the Spy Family on promotion, so that it made our decision simple not that they have an extensive menu to begin with. The spy family comprise of pieces of three types of sushi: wasabi salmon, original salmon with black fish roe and peach shrimp. Flame gun oishizushi are not my usual thing to order, but I went in with an open mind. To this date, I still don't understand the hype. The food was decent, but nothing really special. My experience was that they really overdo it with the sauce. As a result, you can only taste the mayo based sauces and it makes the whole experience real heavy. I also find the other side toppings on the sushi not necessary providing any additional value to the palette. Case in point, one peach shrimp had a dash of peach jam on them. First off, there was barely any peach jam taste even if you tried the jam on its own, nor did it tone down the heaviness of the sauce. One of the pluses was they did not overdo it with the flame gun. Like I said, decent food, not 4.5-5 stars worthy. I may stick to the drinks if I happen to visit them in the future. Discovered this place on Yelp! Picked up the aburi mosaic platter which was assorted aburi sushi. Shared this with my friends and they were impressed. It has lots of variety and tons of flavour. We were just taking a stroll around our neighbourhood and discovered this new cafe that just opened about 2 weeks ago. This area is known as Cathedral Town which has been developed with beautiful homes surrounding The Cathedral of Transfiguration. And within this residential area, there is a small street named Cathedral High Street that has about 30 shops such as hair salons and beauty care stores. If you were driving in the area, you would have never noticed these shops. It's quite hidden, so I'm sure these stores rely heavily on getting business from the residents living in the area. We were only planning on trying their drinks as it was a perfect resting point half way through our walk. We got one of their specialty drinks - Genmaicha Milk Tea (Japanese Roasted brown rice) and it was so refreshing and tasty. After seeing their food menu, we decided to stay for lunch. We were so pleasantly surprised that this simple cafe had a really good selection of Japanese fusion food. We got the Okonomiyaki and Torch Spicy Salmon bowl. Both dishes were delicious. Staff are friendly and attentive, especially Vanessa was incredibly nice, and very helpful in answering questions about the menu options. There's a limited amount of seating indoors and outdoors. Street parking is available in front of the restaurant. I purchased 3 pieces of the aburi salmon, as well as 6 pieces each of unagi and shrimp aburi. Each piece of fish was fresh tasting. The rice was perfectly seasoned. There was a smokiness imparted by the light torching that nicely complimented the fish and their sauces. I particularly enjoyed the slight yuzu flavour of the sauce that accompanied the unagi. They have a good selection of bottled and canned beverages including Japanese soft drinks. Their in-house made drinks are lightly sweetened which suits my palate just fine. Matcha milk drink is excellent. Not overly sweet and has a bold matcha taste. Highly recommend! The Nezu strawberry milk drink is similar and uses strawberry powder rather than fresh strawberries. It's like the strawberry powder found in strawberry bubble tea. Yuzu black tea is also refreshing. Order online for a link to their loyalty program where every dollar spent earns you one point. A quiet little gem sushi spot! I've tried some of their lunch specials and aburi sushi sets. I really like the presentation of the aburi sushi and it is truly delicious as well! However, it falls apart easily sometimes when you pick it up with chopsticks. That's really my only complaint about the food at place! I think their lunch specials are a good deal, but the menu can be a bit pricey in general. If you're on their mailing list, they often have sales for aburi platters, so do join that for updates! The drinks aren't quite as worth it on their own, but you can usually add a drink for a small price to a meal, which is nice. I recommend taking a trip up north of Markham and trying this place! read more

WOW - what a hidden gem in Cathedral Town!! My mother used to just live around the corner and I had no idea there is a Sushi place down the street. (Hello, how about some snail mail door to door flyers?) We now mostly are north of there but so convenient shooting down the 404. Was going to make the trip great by stopping by at La Rocca on the other side but found out they are temporary closed =(. I guess the business went to Egg Tarts at You & Me Bakery. Ok back to Cafe Mozaiko, we some how stumbled on their instagram months back just before the lock down is lifted and never had a chance to try until today - Pre-Mother's Day Dinner. We ordered Aburi Mosaic Sushi Platter with 42 pieces + 4 Big Coin Red Bean Cake 4 pcs and Stranger Don for pickup and it definitely did not disappoint. We love Aburi and have tried a lot of places multi times where it's available. And between JaBristro in Toronto and Kishimoto and also Green Leaf in Vancouver, the Aburi at Cafe Mozaiko is up to par to these higher end restaurant and frankly we found the Aburi is much more flavourful then the other mentioned. As for the Stranger's Don, got that to feed our younger kids and I'm not sure if we should lol, the eggs are cooked perfectly partly cooked, partly semi raw, and not flaky. The beef are thin slices and just the right amount, again, super flavourful! Just wished the portion is a bit bigger, ESPECIALLY when i ordered a "LARGE" instead of small. I now wonder what small would look like? A cup? Haha Staffs are super friendly and the store looks very clean :) Note - although I paid $60, I did not get the 4 Big Coin Red Bean Cake as part of the order. I was blown away by the attention to detail for each piece of sushi and also how many different flavors this tray had! It featured 7 different mouthwatering flavors and each piece just melted in your mouth. By far my favorites were the Wasabi shrimp and the Spicy salmon. All the ingredients were super fresh and it is made fresh on the spot once you order! This tray was also super filling as me and the hubby are normally quite big eaters but we were struggling to even eat half of the tray. This definitely can easily feed up to 4 people. Aside from this beautiful tray cafe mozaiko also has various lunch specials, dons, drinks and even desserts! They have a new dessert item called the Butterfly Dance which features taro waffles, Taro ice cream and blueberry topping which is inspired by anime characters. We first go there to buy a drink after finished lunch and we got the red bean match milk tea if I remember correctly and tasted not too bad. So we decided to also to give it a try again at dinner time! We ordered two take out item: 1. Stranger Don - it's thin beef with egg and in my opinion, it tastes better than the Gyu Don u typically get from a Japanese restaurant. Quite tasty and the beef is tendor! Yummy! 2. Curry Karaage bento - the curry sauce taste quite good and the Karaage is not too bad. The Karaage goes quite well together with the curry!
