Came to Catalina for the weekend and I would have to say this cafe was one of my favorite places on the island. It is super charming and had plenty of good lunch options. Fresh and tasty vegan options. Really enjoyed the veggie pita with hummus. Was really excited that they had a vegan chickpea tuna salad sandwich. However was a little disappointed, it was a bit dry. Possibly because of the bread. The side salad and dressing are really addicting. Would go back simply for that. Even added the dressing to the sandwich. We went back the next day for some breakfast toast. Simple avocado toast was very simple, definitely needed salt. But the peanut butter and banana toast was great. We had a group of 5 people here for a quick lunch. They are probably the most vegan friendly restaurant on the island. They have all kinds of stuffed avocado, hot veggie panini, and cold veggies sandwiches. I had veggie panini which was awesome. Among all the vegan dishes we got, this was voted the best. Chickpea sandwich was presto good too. The veggie stack was alright. Turnkey sandwich was good, according to my nephew. Their smoothie were very refreshing especially during the hot days. Strawberry and bananas or pineapple coconut smoothie were both good. Highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a fresh and casual meal. read more

The problem a resort town like Avalon is that the limited space often means fewer options and higher prices. Luckily, this nice cafe offers quality food at a reasonable price. When I went, there didn't even seem to be a sign over the door, so it's pretty easy to miss. Their menu consists of wraps, pitas, salads, sandwiches, and paninis. I went for the Greek Chicken Pita and it ended up being cheaper than the menu had said (the whole thing came to a little over $9) and came with a side salad or sweet potato fries, so there must've been some sort of lunch special going on that I hadn't seen. The pita itself was decently-sized and the quality of the ingredients inside seemed high, especially the fresh tomatoes and the pesto that tasted like it was made with a good olive oil. The fries were crisp and not overly salted. It was tasty, fresh, and filling, and although the price point may have been a little high in another context, I think this is a really great choice for Catalina compared to a lot of the touristy restaurants whose food costs even more and is nothing special. read more

So glad I Yelped this place! It's such a cute lil' place with nice healthy choices compared to all the other restaurants around the boardwalk area. It's located across the street from the Golf Cart Rental place (towards the Casino). We had the Roasted Turkey Sandwich and the Chicken Pita (which most Yelpers also recommended). Both were accompanied with a side of sweet potato fries (you have a choice of a side salad). Both the sandwich and pita were tasty yet light. I didn't have a greasy feeling after eating since we had other activities to go to after lunch! I heard from a "local tourist" (who comes to the island every summer) that this place is under a new owner. The gal who served us our order was very pleasant. We went around 2pm, so after the lunch rush. Although after we walked in, there were about 5-6 people that followed! The wait time was acceptable to me, but I read other Yelpers seemed impatient. However, I thought it was justifiable with the quality of our food (and plus, I was on vacation mode!). I would totally recommend this place! read more

It's a little off the beaten path and I mean little. And it looks more like a simple walk in basic coffee . smoothie shop. Not at all. We had been on the island for almost a week and found this gem. Beers on tap, hard ciders and lots of beverage choices. They have such a great variety of sandwiches , salads , wraps, Paninis and etc. my salad was so delicious! Can't express how happy I was to find a cafe with somewhat healthy eats! Loved my PB&A smoothie though it needed a bigger straw for the PB bits. My veggie panini was delicious and the avocado toast was pretty good too. We came to this spot in Catalina with the promise of vegan options (VERY limited in Catalina). I got a piña colada smoothie bowl - it was not the most amazing bowl I've ever had as. a vegan but was one of the more refreshing and delicious vegan things I had on the island. I loved my experience here! The staff was super friendly and the food was delicious! We made it as part of our plans when we were on the island. They have a cute outdoor patio where you can enjoy the sun and listen to live music. I had the combo with broccoli cheddar soup and a tuna sandwich. We had a really great lunch here today. I had a Mediterranean salad (minus the chicken, cheese and vinaigrette). Due to my alterations, the cashier asked if I would like to add some avocado at no extra charge. Heck yeah I would! My partner had a BLT, which he loved. He also had a glass of wine served in a very large sake cup which was a nice touch. I had my Pellegrino served in one also. The staff was friendly. Was looking for Cafe Umami when we figured out that the named changed to Cafe Metropole. So glad we found them cause it was the best option available on this island for vegetarian or health conscious people. They do have something for everyone. They even have a Falafel! On a black board they list their fresh soups of the day and tell you vegan or vegetarian. Awesome! The owner was super sweet and very proud of her cafe. Cafe Metropole has plant based vegan options! They offer fresh organic ingredients in their food. I got the "Earth" cold-pressed juice: cucumber, celery, grapefruit & basil. So crisp & refreshing! For breakfast I got the "Clean" avocado toast: options of wheat or sourdough toast (I chose wheat), avocado spread, cucumbers, basil, topped with balsamic. The first bite had so much flavor. The bread was REALLY soft & the basil & balsamic gave it the perfect touch. Safe to say it was the best avocado toast I've ever had. The location is right off the main street so it's really easy to find with inside & outside seating. So glad they have clean eating (& drinking) options here. We were in a time crunch with getting to our next tour on vacation and the cook came out and went through the menus real quick and told us what she/they could make in less than 7 minutes. The sweet potato fries with barbecue chicken on top was an amazing snack to hold us until our next meal. If you are there on the Island get the times that they are open and go here! A great lunch spot to grab a sandwich, salad, drink and a small kids menu is available. We ordered a peanut butter sandwich for our little one. The bread was a bit larger than normal but he didn't seem to mind. My hubby had a ham and Swiss sandwich that comes with the option of a salad, potatoes salad or fries. I had the Cobb salad that came with a generous portion of bacon (crisper than my preference). I wish my salad was a bit larger for the price. I LOVE the Cafe Metropole! It is my go-to lunch spot! I especially love the sandwiches and salads. They host great summer on the patio events during most weekends and also cater. I had them cater a few side dishes for my baby shower and it was an excellent compliment to our party. All of the employees are so friendly and welcoming during every visit!
