Filet mignon special $55
Sean R.

Not much to look at from the outside, and located in a sort of little alley behind a gas station but the vibe inside is like eating in a cozy cute shack. The food was good - Squid ink noodles came w/ generous amount of seafood with baby octopus, squid & shrimp perfectly cooked. They also added some salmon roe in the noodles giving salty little bursts to your bites which combined nicely w/ the lemon juice. But beware if you're on a first date, the ink will leave your teeth all lookin like gollum chowin raw fish. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare and very tender & served w/ mashed potato & a tasty mix of roasted veggies. The price was quite reasonable, filet mignon was $55 which seemed cheap compared to other places. And when the server asked if we would like some bread we were pleasantly surprised to find it was free which u don't see much anymore. It's a small place so not best for larger groups tho.

Orecchiette Pugliesi

I reviewed this restaurant maybe a couple years ago now. I felt it was time for a new one. I had friends in town from afar and decided to take them out for a birthday dinner. Two of us ordered the same thing - it was the orchiette puglesi. I may have spelled that incorrectly, but basically it's these little ear shaped pastas with nice spicy sausage pieces of sundried tomatoes, and broccoli rabe (like broccolini but slightly bitter) in a delightful light sauce, probably butter based. The pasta was cooked to my perfection, al dente. Both my friend and myself ate every bite. You'll see the photo attached. The other person in our party had the meatball appetizer and a Caesar salad. He was very pleased with both. So you may ask, why only four stars? Two reasons. The first being our red Cabernet Sauvignon wine was rather chilly. Both of us prefer our red wine at room temperature. It still was a delicious wine. The other reason was because one of our desserts, a pistachio ice cream with a of caramelized top, was very, very frozen and icy. The tiramisu, on the other hand and a chocolate mousse were very delightful. Service was excellent and attentive. We enjoyed our evening tremendously and it is certainly on the list of my favorite restaurants. Another issue is the difficulty in parking. The spaces are so very close together if you can even find one. Despite being there on a Thursday evening, even the street parking was full. I don't think the restaurant can do very much about that so it's really not fair to criticize them. I guess it's just to put it in your awareness of parking can be difficult.

Epic meal experience! 4 of us sitting down to a meal, each with our own dietary concerns and everyone was thrilled! WIN! We made a good attempt to try as many dishes as we could and everything was fantastic! Our server really knew the food and the wine list and took great care of us! We even had limonchello and coffee after dinner. The restaurant has an "outdoor patio" that is enclosed along with an indoor space. We sat outdoors and we're completely comfortable. We will certainly be back for our next Italian fix!!

Definitely an acquired taste, but I loved the creativity behind it. The Key Lime Rum Cocktail was bright, refreshing, and perfectly balanced, with a tropical twist that was smooth and flavorful without being overly sweet. The space is full of character with warm wood tones, plants, and personal touches everywhere. The vibe is cozy and welcoming, making it a perfect spot to relax. There is also outdoor seating. If you're in Eugene and want something beyond your average cocktail bar, you should give this place a try.

Of course, had my Yelp app handy and it found Bar Purlieu for me. I got there right at 4pm when they opened since it was a Friday night, 4th of July weekend so did not know if I was going to get a big crowd since I had no reservations. I ordered the following: House Chianti (excellent)!! regret that I did not take a picture of the bottle ($14) Bone Marrow Appetizer: melt in your mouth delicious ($19) Filet Mignon: delicious, it had a morel mushroom sauce and it was absolutely divine. I got it medium rare and it was perfect ($50) 6 Oyster's: very meaty and you need to ask for fresh horseradish and tabasco sauce. They only have 1 small bottle of tabasco sauce for the whole restaurant and they serve raw oysters... what??? that is insane!!! ($4.50 PER OYSTER-that is insane too but they were nice an meaty). I will definitely be back!!!! Will bring my own Costco size Tabasco sauce

The environment is lively, mostly because Taro is personable and we were able to see him create beautiful sushi dishes live while hearing him engage with the customers seated around him. It was actually really fun listening to his stories, and seeing how he is passionate about the food he makes. He was excited about the uni and was talking about how the fish he orders is from Spain and how he really wanted to order another great cut of fish. The food was delicious, even down to the house sodas they have. We ordered the summer margarita with fresh berries, lime soda, cold beet appetizer, veggie donburi, chef's choice spicy trio hand rolls, chocolate mochi blackberry cake - and at the end Taro gave us 2 nigiri on the house. The house lime soda - usually soda is nothing to blink an eye at, but the lime flavor was fresh and just the right amount of sweetness. We were surprised by how good it was. The summer margarita was a delight, the alcohol and fresh summer flavors balanced perfectly so that neither overpowered the other. The beet appetizer was fun to try. Beets can sometimes be too earthy/muddy in flavor, but the nutty dressing paired with the salty, crunchy puffed chip paired well with the soft bites of beet. The veggie donburi bowl was much bigger than expected, and everything on it was good. The tempura tofu was well executed - silken tofu encased in a thin/crispy layer that tasted light and not greasy. The overall flavor of the bowl is akin to teriyaki, but less sweet and more of a deep umami and more smoky flavor. The handrolls had a good amount of fish to rice/topping ratio. The wasabi actually has some real wasabi in it, and the pickled ginger and soy sauce made every bite flavorful. Very filling. The fish were all fresh and tasted great. My partner who almost never eats meat couldn't resist and ate a piece of nigiri and loved it. The mochi chocolate cake was very unique and definitely worth trying. I find most chocolate cake too sweet with a generic cocoa powder flavor and too heavy. The texture of the cake is not too dense, but has a nice mochi bite to it while tasting a deep cacao flavor without it feeling too heavy. The sweet/richness is just right paired with bites of fresh blackberries. Honestly, may be the best dessert I've eaten so far this year. The interior is well decorated and pays homage to Akira the anime. The hostess who greeted us seemed stressed and it definitely showed on her face the whole night. But, our server was kind and attentive. Despite the handrolls taking ~20 mins to show up, the food was delicious and worth the wait. There is so much more to try on the menu. Will gladly come back and support Taro and crew!
