I visited Café Mac last Friday, and the place was so busy that it was almost completely full. The sweet potato cake and tiramisu were both very delicious. All the teas we ordered were also quite good. The interior has become quite worn over time, so it seems like it may need an upgrade soon. The interiors of this house turned cafe are something truly special. I personally feel pressured when an establishment has signs everywhere warning that you have to purchase 1 item per person per 3 hours of stay, even if I comfortably meet that requirement. I was glad to see that they have a sweet potato cake because I've experimented with it at home also. But I didn't love theirs: it felt like a sweet potato was roasted, then mashed together with chiffon cake, that mixture was placed into a mold, which made it feel less like a cake and more like a filling. Nothing about the outside tells you anything. Just a door. Easy to miss, easy to walk past. We almost did. Glad we did not. Inside it's a whole thing. Long hallway, people scattered at tables, and then you take a left and suddenly there's this room with round study tables and dividers that give each spot just enough space without making it feel like a library cubicle. Actually it kind of does feel like a library. One room does anyway. Another room goes full cafeteria. The furniture doesn't exactly match and I don't know what the overall vibe is supposed to be but it works. It just works. We went in the middle of the day. Busy but quiet in that way where the energy is there but nobody is performing. If you want a table you need a reservation. Good to know going in. We kept it simple. French fries, carrot cake, milk tea for me and a Korean coffee for Fadi. The carrot cake was legitimately great. The menu has a lot more going on than our choices reflect. I looks like they do some Italian things, among other stuff. I am pretty sure I saw carbonara on the menu so yea, we barely scratched the surface. Forgot to check if it's open late night but if it is, what a great spot for late night studying. There's just something about it that makes you want to share it; not post it, share it, like actually grab a friend and walk them through the door so they can have the experience themselves. Really cute cafe! The location had nice dim lighting, open seating both inside and outside and the servers were really sweet. I had ordered their katsu plate and had originally forgot the rice that came with my plate because they were busy, but they were quick to get it out to me when I went to ask. Overall good experience and will definitely return. Highly recommend their Korean coffee. read more

Its really moody and calm environment, lots of seating both inside and out with nooks to hide in. Staff was attentive, helpful, and friendly. I had the earl grey tea pie and it was delicious, that the cream on top paired perfectly with the cake which was moist and rich but not too sweet. The milk tea I got with it complimented it well. Parking was not ideal, I ended up parking around the corner and walking... and that was a Friday afternoon, so keep that in mind when visiting. read more

Everything I've ever ordered here has been delicious- especially the hazelnut latte and mozzarella sticks. Early birthday lunch with dear coworkers. I always like the ambiance, the eclectic decor & the historic feeling building of this cafe. Friendly service & we liked they had the bell on the table since the restaurant was large with certain areas difficult to see with walls. There were a lot of people with their laptops - working, studying, etc. Their food is OK but the sweet potato cake was very good. We come for the atmosphere & the friendly service. I used to really love this place. Food and drinks were decent. Amazing study ambiance. The waitresses are usually extremely condescending and rude. This was fine with me up until my last visit. I was following the 3 hour rule noted on their menu, even setting myself a timer after every time I ordered to make sure I was following it. With 45 minutes left on my timer, a waitress came by and just handed me a check unprompted without saying anything. Her not saying anything and placing the check down left me feeling really unwelcomed. I asked her why I was handed a check and she condescendingly told me to order more food and didn't care that I was following the 3 hour rule. I'm hesitant to return after enjoying this place the other times I've been. Not surprised to see there are other reviews mentioning bad service. I really hope management takes this seriously because this cafe has so much potential to be an amazing place. read more

This place is great for studying and getting work done. They have free parking as well which is unheard of in ktown. Our party reserved a private room to get some work done. It was very quiet and convenient for us. They also have a large selection of drinks and mains you can order. I ended up getting the turkey wrap for $17.99. This was one of the place I have bookmarked on Google to try out. I'm honestly surprised by the high ratings on Google. My partner and I stop by here after dinner since it was a walk away. I only wanted to get a cake to share since I don't really want to drink anything caffeinated at night. The waitress came by and told us that we have to order 2 items, which was weird because I didn't see any signs and to be honest I wouldn't have stop by there if I had known that. You have access to free WiFi, and power outlets to charge your devices and other supporting electronics. This place open doors to a huge space with plenty of seating and lounge areas. You will also feel like you're at home because the ambiance setting gives a home like cozy feel. The staff were helpful and sweet and it was my first time here. You can't be everything to everyone, but that certainly doesn't stop Café Mak from trying! This café has it all. In a world where many coffee shops have deliberately limited power outlets to increase customer turnover (see Starbucks, Café Terrasse, and many other locals), Café Mak did the opposite. They made a haul to Home Depot and probably wiped out their inventory of 6-outlet power strips and fitted nearly every seat with one. You have power for your laptop now, so what about the seating? They have full outdoor seating, partial outdoor seating in the front, indoor with booth seats, and indoor with air conditioning (the library side). They have heaters for the winter months, and even blankets. Tabletops are full size, unlike the deliberately undersized furniture you will find at Spot, About Time, and several others in the area, whose set up reminds me of my kindergarten desk/furniture. Want seating options that fit people taller than 5'6"? They got you! Beverages: I love their iced coffee. So much so that I asked what they use for beans, and the waitress enthusiastically told me the brand and different beans they have. It has some subtle notes, almost chocolate, but it's not. I've tried the latte, (cold and iced), the Korean teas and regular teas, and had a cold Coke and vanilla shake once too. All were good. They also have beer and wine. Thirsty but can't decide what you want?: They got you! Food: They have a variety of options. I've had the spicy version of the chicken and rice, the ramen, the French fries, cookie and a few desserts. All were excellent, and consistent each time I ordered them (ordered the ramen, and spicy chicken multiple times. Cookies are always fresh, unlike other places). Hungry or just want a snack? They got you! Ambiance and Vibe and Service: Vibes are good and it's a cozy place with a variety of seating as mentioned. Staff are friendly and chill. Some other coffee shops in Koreatown have some weird vibes. Not the case here. The lighting is a bit dim at times. But again, you can't be everything to everyone, and just as many probably prefer dim over brighter lighting. Music: They don't play the music too loud, and it's neutral enough that I don't even pay attention to it. The customers seem to span the entire demographic, so the music choice isn't attracting or repelling any demo. Again, some other coffee shops in the area have it all wrong in this respect. Wi-Fi: They have it, but I always use my hotspot. The password is kind of funny though! Parking: Free lot, plus a free overflow lot about 30 yards (27.4 meters) away, both lighted and safe, with security at night. Free parking in Koreatown, and you don't have to deal with a Valet! This is as rare as...this great place that's my fav coffee shop and the closest thing to a third place. Café Mak has the formula. Starbucks and the others will never get there. read more

Not a lot of places are open at night for a casual sitdown chat place but Cafe Mak is open. They have a very narrow one-car driveaway to go through to the parking lot in the back. They stop taking orders for food around 9pm or 10pm. Drinks and food are mediocre. It doesn't seem like the desserts are made in house. read more

Visited this place with a friend a couple days ago. She said she saw this from TikTok! It was initially difficult to find where it was and the parking. We got there at 4:45pm and was able to park in their "additional" parking lot right down the street which opens at 5pm. Anytime before that you could park in a separate lot. First impression going in, it was a hidden gem for sure. There were two entrances but it stays true to the "cafe" experience. You find a seat first then a server will come take your order. Be weary though, people use this as a study spot more and it might be hard to find a spot to sit. Luckily there are plenty of seats outside as well. Depending on the time you come it, there should be plenty of seating. The menu was truly amazing, having an Asian fusion of delicacies. Prices are high but you pay for the quality! If you order a "Mains" dish, you get 30% off your drink! We chose the Beef Griddle Udon, which included a nice serving of vegetables mixed in a light sauce coating. The Kimchi Carbonara was full of sauce and my friend enjoyed it a lot. Would definitely recommend to come here again in the future. read more

The ambiance is unique with lots of bookshelves and antique items. I really wanted to like this place. It seemed like a great study spot, especially with a printer available for customers, but the Wi-Fi was spotty and there's a strict three-hour time limit. On the plus side, there are outlets at the tables, the music is low, and it's quiet enough for calls. I tried the Korean coffee, which was extremely sweet. The café uses a push-button service system, so staff don't interrupt you unless called--though they will let you know when your time is up. Loyal Customer Since 2015 I've been a loyal customer at Mak since around 2015-2016. This place has been part of my journey through high school, college, and now adulthood -- which is why I'm truly disappointed by my recent experience. During my last visit, the waiter's tone and attitude were surprisingly dismissive. When my friend and I used the call button to request a menu, she told us we "didn't need to use it" and could "just go to the front to ask for one." The ambiance provides the perfect mood for studying with its homey feeling with warm lights. I ordered the black sesame latte with onion rings.
