Went here for the first time, there was a long wait, that was expected for Sunday breakfast. We were seated by a very friendly server, who promptly directed us to the specials on the board. The table was small, 1/3 of the space was taken up by a caddy, it was not comfortable and awkward, it appeared clean. My Husband ordered the Hill Country Plate(sausage, biscuits, eggs, gravy and hash) and a coffee. The price for the Hill Country was about $2-$4 more per meal, compared with similar meals, from other restaurants. There was nothing special about it, nothing stood out, portions were average. The Gravy was good, it was missing something. I ordered the Special, which was eggs Benedict. I was told it came with huge thick pieces of ham and it was a large portion. The item arrived, and it looked appealing, however I found the hollandaise sauce(if you could call it that), absolutely disgusting. The sauce had so much lemon(which tasted artificial), that all you could taste was an overwhelmingly sour taste, that bordered on tasting rancid. The sauce was broken(probably from too much acid), not even an unnecessary amount of hot sauce could hide. I had to scrape it off. I also was not alone, My Husband thought it was disgusting. Hollandaise sauce, is a emulsion of butter and egg yolks, with a touch of acid for flavor(lemon or hot sauce), you could not taste the butter, you could not taste the yolk. The Ham was a thin circular slice(comparable to a slice of lunch meat), cut in half and divided onto each half of an english muffin. It was not as described. The egg was a little over poached, but it was enjoyable. The Hash browns were yummy. We paid $17 for that meal, and it is not worth it. $17, for essentially a thin single slice of lunch meat, an english muffin, two eggs, hash browns and a disgusting sauce. 100% not worth it. Would not recommend, if you order it, you are wasting your money. The service though was friendly, bubbly, inviting and they brought our food fast, though we were not checked on during our meal(because we would have taken that "eggs Benedict" back after the fist bite). Instead I opted to suffer through it instead of wasting $17. The coffee was excellent. My Husband buys expensive coffee and he said it was comparable to that. It was smooth and nicely balanced, and hot. They had the absolutely best unsweet ice tea I have ever had at a restaurant. We were given coffee to go, which we appreciated. Is this a go-to place? I guess if you live around the corner. The service is very friendly, which seems to be a rare thing to feel actually welcomed in an establishment. It stands out in that regard. The prices seemed mixed, it is either overpriced, or very reasonable. Would recommend you should see what the hype is about, but again, avoid the "eggs Benedict". read more

It was my husband's birthday and we wanted to grab a quick breakfast before our fist adventure. We stopped in about 10:30am on Friday and there were about 8 ppl in front of us but we were quickly seated in 10 mins. We once we sat down we were waiting for about 10-15 mins before anyone acknowledged us so we stopped someone and asked if they could have our waitress come out. She did and was nice. The food was good and came out fast. I got the Greek omelette with hash browns and blueberry pancakes. My husband has the corned-beef hash and a buckwheat short stack. I came here for a mid afternoon coffee and snack. I had a peanut butter coffee drink that was supposed to be decaf--they offered to remake it but it wasn't worth the effort. The coffee drink was lacking in coffee flavor anyway, so I don't think it was very strong. I can't quite describe what the drink tasted like, and it was a little lukewarm, so I wouldn't recommend. My friend and I split the nachos with Piccadillo and avocado. They were a step up from stadium nachos, but nothing to get excited about. The salsa was also unexciting. Most importantly, my friend's dad was able to get his pancake fix at 3 pm, so that was a definite big plus. Overall though, there's a large menu here, and breakfast all day, so maybe it's worth exploring more, but I wouldn't be too optimistic. read more

Food is pretty good usually. Coffee is great. Service is hit or miss. More than once the serving staff has been not rude but somewhat dismissive. No refills, no check on how it's going or "can I get you anything else?". I've seen the same server that I have at the time, be extremely friendly to some folks and almost bothered by me or mine. I've not been rude, offensive nor have I ever under tipped...even when getting that service. My husband and I first went to Cafe Java in Austin. When we moved north we were happy to know they have a location in Round Rock. We love this place. The wait can be lengthy, (all good things are worth the wait), the price cannot be beaten, service is fast once seated, and the food is always a hit. If you're looking for that slow Saturday morning, cozy vibe with the ones you love this is the place. No frills just great food, excellent coffee, and friendly, down to earth staff. This was a wonderful discovery on a visit in Round Rock.  I tried stopping by a number of times, but their parking lot was full. Good sign of a great restaurant.  When I made it there, I ordered pancakes to go. They were tremendous! They were packaged so carefully with foil to keep them warm (not thrown in Styrofoam and tossed at you). I loved that they were soft, huge, and flavorful. Next time I'm in the area I think I'll add fruit to them, although I did have a great conversation with an employee while I was there, and he has me thinking of some other delicious things to try! read more

My dad LOVES Cafe Java!! We go once or twice a month and he's never been disappointed. Cafe Java is near in the same shopping center as Randall's. This restaurant is tiny but mighty - every time we go they're busy! They still make time to be personable and the food still comes quickly. Options range from Omelets to Pancakes to Tacos. Flavor is not over the top here-- it's great, but the place is really cozy, welcoming, friendly. Perfect spot to bring your favorite book or laptop or friend and just have a nice time. read more

During a recent trip to Austin, I stopped in for breakfast with my sister and a friend. He lives in Austin, and Cafe Java is one of his favorite breakfast spots. We arrived semi early on a Saturday and found it very crowded. We waited about 15 minutes for a table to become available. I was surprised to find that the restaurant was so small once we finally got seated. Our waitress was Monique. She was really cool... she was attentive and really friendly. She passed the vibe check for sure and was probably the best thing about the entire experience. We ended up being seated in the front of the location, which was a bit odd. The tables are very close together too so space was definitely limited. I had one of the p, atters which consists of hash browns, toast, eggs and a meat. I opted for the pork sausage. The food was just okay. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't blown away or anything. My sister had the corned beef hash with hash browns, toast, and eggs. She liked her food. She said the eggs were actually edible for her too which a huge compliment because she doesn't even like eggs. I don't recall what my friend ate, but he's a regular, so he obviously enjoys the food. It wouldn't be my first choice to visit the restaurant again, so that's why I gave it three stars versus four. It was an acceptable option for a first-timer, though. read more

I've been to the shopping center hundreds of times and I've never seen or heard of Cafe Java :( I was thankful for another foodie on Facebook tagging this location. I was blown away--I love diner spots, especially places that serve breakfast. The menu is huge, and I'll have to go back to try lunch or dinner. As for food, it doesn't seem like you can go wrong here - they have all of your breakfast favorites plus some unique specials that change regularly. I ordered the Hill Country Breakfast which included biscuits and gravy, eggs the way you like them, sausage patties, and hashbrowns - a ton of food! Wow, this is such a popular spot! They don't do reservations or an online wait list so you have to go and put your name in. It was only about a 20 minute wait on a Sunday! The coffee is amazing - they had their Ethiopian blend today and I loved it!! The Benny was the special of the day and I can see why it's their best selling menu item!! The portions are huge, the food comes out fast, and the staff is very friendly. My coffee didn't get below half cup without someone swinging by to refill it! The food was very good, no issue, came out at a decent time. And the server was ok, seemed nervous. But maybe it's just too small inside? We were quoted a 30/40 minute wait (totally fine, it's Sunday) but it ended up being an hour and a half. If you haven't been there since the change in owner, you should see what's different now. I have to admit that I'm only a weekend goer. So what are some of the changes that I have observed you may ask? Lately, there have been steak and eggs combos. The chicken fried steak isn't only a Tuesday night special any longer. It was offered on both Saturday and Sunday this past weekend. In fact there were 5 specials last Sunday, two old favorites, Hill Country and Eggs Benny, plus Chicken Fried Steak and a bacon wrapped fillet with a wine sauce and blueberry stuffed French toast. Great service at this location. We didn't run into any so-called language barriers at this location. The folks here were friendly and provided everything we needed to enjoy our meal. My husband and I were not very impressed with our food. My husband got the French toast, and they did not send any powdered sugar with it, and it was way undercooked. I got the corned beef and, like another reviewer mentioned, it looked like canned pet food. I tried to crisp it up a little on the stove to make the appearance, taste and texture more appealing. The hash browns had a burnt taste, otherwise lacked much flavor. My eggs were nice though, and cooked properly to-order. Great pick, fellow Yelpers! Thanks to Yelp, I found this gem in Round Rock! My boyfriend wanted to take me out for brunch and while I usually gravitate towards the fancy, mimosa laden, bennies aplenty type places, I decided to make my choice more down home, and I fussy, just like my country beau. Yelpers I respect and trust let me know that we would both get our needs met here. We decided to share the ultimate migas, at my suggestion along with a plate of fresh fruit, at his suggestion. I should preface this by saying I am not normally a migas fan, but the added extras the ultimate plate adds made me crave this! It was so worth it! The portions are huge and it was more than enough for the two of us. The ranchero sauce was as tasty as my mom's and we loved the beans and the migas! Flavorful and chock full of cheese, chorizo and tortilla chips. The fruit plate had fresh fruit with a good variety of tastes to enjoy. The only improvement would have been fresh peaches over canned, but it was still really good. The coffee is also delicious and plentiful and strong. We will be back because this may be my new go to.
