We eat here almost every Sunday for brunch. The Benedict is always wonderful. Western omelette is one of our regular items with their exceptional hash browns. We have been here several times in the past because the the food and coffee was great. One time we were given the wrong food but we figured that was just a one off situation, we would give it another shot. Well today was the deal breaker and will probably not be returning. We went for brunch and waited an hour and a half. We kept getting bumped by other parties that were checking in online, very frustrating as we were there the entire time. I finally went to go check on our status and stood there with the hostess as she checked for me and saw 4 other parties jump us again. My husband I decided to go for a brunch date to cafe Java and we had a great time. There was one family ahead of us but we waiting for less than 5 minutes. The staff was all very friendly (family owned establishment) and gave good recommendations. I had the caramel con panna hot coffee. It was delicious. Not overly sweet and tasted great (I'm not a fan of bitter black coffee with cream/sugar). My husband got the cafe au lait. For brunch I ordered the Greek omelet and subbed the hashbrowns and toast for a slice of French toast. The omelet was so good and the French toast was sweet (I didn't need to add any syrup). My husband got the california omelet with hashbrowns and rye bread. I saw they have a butter beer coffee and that is next on my list to try. Our experience at Cafe Java, as usual, was wonderful! We are from Houston but we make sure to stop for breakfast each time we're in town. It's a bustling place; but it's all part of the magic. Our waiter was excellent and started us off with their delicious OJ and one of us (it was me ;) ) had the Cafe Mocha with whipped cream. It was absolute perfection. I ordered my usual, the Ultimate Migas. HEAVEN ON A PLATE! I get mine with bacon subbed for chorizo, and no tomatoes. So.... darn.... yummy. I wish we could pick the place up and bring it home. We've been to the Metric Blvd location and the Round Rock location, and they are both consistently amazing every time! Walked up at lunchtime on a Friday and the place was definitely packed. Despite the busy crowd, service was still very good, friendly. They might benefit from a seating/texting service since it was so busy and cold and rainy it was hard to stay inside or close by to hear a name called. 4 in my party, 3 had breakfast and 1 lunch which is why I chose this lovely diner...many choices and serves breakfast all day. A HUGE plus for this place is in the name, the JAVA! They have the best prices I've ever seen on high quality coffee drinks! This really enticed my party to order some and they were delicious (tried hot and cold). The food came out pretty quickly and was right on level with what we make at home ourselves. I gotta say, that's why we don't go out often for breakfast especially because what we make is always better. BUT this place matched pretty close to our expectations and we appreciate that. This used to be my favorite weekend breakfast spot. For 15+ years my wife and I have been eating breakfast on the weekends here. As time has gone by and new owners came in, the service has gotten to be really bad. To the point where I walk in sit down and it's 7 to 10 minutes before it's even acknowledge that I'm there to eat. Today I went in for breakfast by myself, sat down and waited for service. A server finally showed up, but it wasn't his table to take care of. He took my order and the food showed up in about 10 mins. Never once did anybody come by and ask for a refill on my coffee. I waited around for a server so that I could pay my bill at my table. They never showed up. So I walked to the front desk to pay there. The lady seemed rather frazzled With a lot going on at the time. I told her that the service sucked today. She acknowledged took my money and I left. I won't be coming back again. I'll stay closer to home and take my money and my empty belly where it's more appreciated. It really stinks to see stuff like this happen, but I guess it's inevitable. read more

This is the best breakfast spot I've found in the north Austin area so far. It is the incarnation of Southern hospitality with great service and tasty food. It feels like I was invited to my grand mother's and she served me my favorite breakfast items! As someone who has worked in fiod service and at a chain very similar, this tells me that this server does not care. Tried and true. Pre-pandemic I used to meet with girlfriends here on a regular basis. I pretty much always got the California Omelette- alfalfa sprouts, Swiss cheese, avocado, and tomato. It comes with hash browns and your choice of toast (which I always substitute tomato slices for the toast). Well, today I had a late breakfast after tennis, and met an old friend here. Went back to my tried and true favorite. It was just as filling and delicious as I remember. (Forgot to photograph it before I dug in). The coffee is always great too. This place has got to be a "pool house" regarding tips- that means everyone puts their tips together and splits them so everyone helps each other with their tables. Generally speaking, that means great service, and that is certainly the case here. You can ask anyone for a coffee refill, and they are happy to oblige. The tables are tightly packed in, so if you'd prefer more "social distance" while dining, come early early. I've loved Cafe Java for years, and will continue to do so. This is a really nice breakfast place to take your family. I went with my husband on a mini date here and only had to wait a five minutes to be seated as they were busy. The waitress was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. The Caramel Macchiato was a bit too sweet for me so I will opt for a regular coffee next time. The omelettes are huge and could be easily shared with light eaters as they come with hash browns and bread. French toast was delicious and not too sweet as well. On my visit yesterday Santa dropped in and took photos with the kids dining at the cafe. Pretty cool to see how he brightened up the children's day. They loved it! Our server was awesome. She greeted us as soon as we sat down and was ready to take our order. That's a plus so patrons won't have to wait and the cafe can get people in and out. The food was delicious as expected. I ordered the sausage plate. It comes with a bread so I ordered the biscuit and asked for a side of gravy. That was extra. Also, a pancake from the a la carte menu. I could not decide what I wanted since my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I shared my food so that worked out. When you are ready to check out, you go to the front to pay. This summer we made 2 trips to the area, about 7 days and every day we ate at this place! I absolutely love the Whole Lotta Latte after recommended by the staff. My mouth is watering, thinking of another one. My family enjoys the chorizo tacos, ALOT! My toddlers eat pancakes and fresh fruit. The Java melt on an everything bagel is delicious. I first discovered Cafe Java by living in an apartment just behind their Austin location. My go to entree is their Ribeye platter and their pancakes, and if you want to know how obsessed I was with it, you can look at my Austin location review. That was at least five years ago and to this day, I still love this place. And I still stand behind my belief that they have the best pancakes in the Austin area. I still get their Ribeye platter, and we've had their migas and tuna sandwich and both really liked it. Just recently we ate there for dinner for the first time and got their special of the day: the pork ribs and chicken fried chicken. The chicken fried chicken still had a nice crispy batter and the chicken was pretty tender, better than the ones in other places I've been to. The gravy was perfectly thick but not too heavy or salty. My pork ribs weren't the most tender I've had, but the sauce was really nice. Their mac n cheese, green beans, and texas toast sides were all really good. The staff is always super friendly and all of their food is consistently delicious.
