Stopped in today after months one morning after class. I can't believe I don't stop by more often. Such a cute quaint cafe with a friendly staff. I was seated right away. However, the last time I visited it was on a Saturday. Friend from out of town and I waited awhile but not too long. To be clear it was worth the wait. I have been in here twice during my first week here in Round Rock. 1st time just for coffee. It was one of the best lattes I have had in as long time and I had already been Walmart, 4700 East Palm Valley Boulevard, Round Rock, TX 78665 missing my little coffee shop in Allen Tx. Allen is a very upper middle class city, so you expect great service They were friendly, fast and informed me of their lunch menu, even giving me a take outrun. They were NOT pushy at all about selling me food. I went back in a couple days later. Not only did the barista welcome me warmly, but she remembered I had been there a day or so earlier! Being recognized by staff I'm a small establishment like this is a sign of great customer service AND a great service model for the business. This time I had lunch. It came out quickly, hot and was very delicious. They didn't skimp on ingredients either. I eat alone in restaurants often as my husband works Long days ( i do not work) and we are empty nesters. At no time was I made to feel uncomfortable or treated unlike any other table with larger parties. I do not know if this is a chain or local to the Austin area, but is modeled after a local-type business and I will definitely be returning! read more

My wife and I went here today for a nice breakfast and expected a great experience like every other time we have eaten there. Boy was I wrong! They weren't as busy as yesterday yet still, we were forced to wait over 45 minutes after being seated and still had no food on our table. When I asked the server, hailey, what was taking so long, she said they were working on a 50 breakfast taco order to go and that my tacos were ready but my wife's weren't. Several more minutes went by and still no food. I wasn't the only one not getting their food either, other people were also leaving due to the poor service. What kind of restaurant ignores paying customers seated in the building in favor of a large phone order and let's people just walk out unhappy. And unfed. It's clear that this place simply doesn't care about the customers. This is one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a restaurant and the reason I may not return again. The sign at the counter regarding complaints says it all, it's a picture of a grenade and a paper number on the pin saying "for any complaints take a number". Needless to say, we. This place is great when there is not a line...but there's always a line. I love the local feel and the food has always been ok. There's just nothing impressive enough to make me want to go back all the time. Its convenient enough to my house but with as busy as they are they could really use twice the amount of space they have. good problem for them to have i guess. I absolutely LOVE this place! While I was pregnant this was my breakfast and lunch choice the entire 9 months.My fiance and I always have had good service and good food. We usually order the Country Omelette, French Toast, Ironman Omelette and we love that they serve apple butter. This place has been my mocha with no whip stop for a few years now. Their mochas are much better than anywhere else I've had one in Austin or surrounding areas. And that's a lot. Submitting an update to their review. I am conflicted on taking away a star because they have become so popular there is a wait time if you go on Fridays or the weekend, but I will leave the star. Everything else, the food, the staff, the environment is all still great. Now I have attempted to go on a Saturday and a Sunday since writing my 1st review. Obviously the later you go the busier it gets. I went around 9am on both days. Saturday took me about 30min wait. Once I got in, the food was their standard great fare. Was it worth the wait? For me personally, no, because I've had it before. I already know how great it is. So this Sunday I went thinking the place won't be crowded as they'd all be in church. I think the place was busier than the Saturday I went!!! I walked in, and walked right out and went elsewhere. I guess to sum it up, if you haven't had it before, suffer the wait and check it out once. Going during the week there is less people there. I have to mention that you can order coffee takeout and not have too much of a wait. read more

Always friendly, the hash browns rock, and a nice menu where you can get breakfast at any time. We're limited on breakfast places in RR, so love it for that, don't do lunch or dinner there. However, if I was to complain about anything, it would be it shouldn't be called Cafe Java, it should be called Cafe you-get-one-cup-of-coffee-and-they-don't-seem-to ever-get-you-a refill. It's Cafe JAVA! PLEASE drown me in JAVA. It's really frustrating to have to ask for a refill of coffee. But very pleasant folks, great quick filling breakfast, really great hash browns, and good coffee....even better if they would fill my cup more often. Oh, one last thing: It's really frustrating to have to take my ticket to the counter to pay. When they are busy, you wind up standing in line. Wish they would reconsider that. read more

Found this place on the way home from Austin, thanks to Yelp. Had to wait a little bit but was well worth it. Started with a caramel macchiato which was great. Followed by a cheeseburger and hash browns - which were both excellent. We will definitely come again next time we are in town. read more

We have been regular customers since 2006 and used to love this restaurant . However, the last time we went for dinner we witnessed one of the servers, who was wearing a filthy t-shirt, scratch his head and picking his nose and scratching himself while serving food. I was quite disappointed with this restaurant. With the reviews being so high I expected good food and service. The food was ok, we got french toast, pancakes, breakfast tacos, corned beef hash, coffee and tea. The best thing on the table was the french toast but we thought other places were much better. The pancakes were very rubbery and the breakfast tacos were not very good. Taco cabana has better breakfast tacos. The tea was very watered down, I thought I had water at first. The coffee was very good! When it came to refills it was like we were asking a lot of the waiters. I only asked one time, so it was not like I was bugging them. Over all I really think this place is over rated. I would suggest Moodys in Leander for a breakfast place. The prices seemed high for the quality of the food. I wont go back again for the food. Cafe Java is a good family style comfort food breakfast joint. Big bonus is that they offer all that great family style food without crazy family company (if you so choose). Yes, thank you. Soy chorizo taco's were yummy especially with avocado. California omelet was great but I wish I would have ordered queso or salsa on top to just pump it up to total ecstasy. Huevo Ranchero's were tasty. I can't seem to beat my California style Ranchero's but these were defiantly the best I've had here yet. The specials on the board always look excellent. Be warned that there's a wait if you don't come pretty early. I've come in looking a hot mess after a long night out and the staff always treats me good even though I look sorta blood shot and homeless. They're good people. You can tell there is care put into what they serve. It comes through in all the dishes and how can you not love that. Add the fact that the prices are super reasonable. Had the worst experience tonight here. We have come for breakfast several times over the year and food was great. I decided to take the wife and kids there for dinner this time because the menu looked good online for dinner. The server was nice and recommended their meatloaf which was the special tonight. My wife and I both ordered it and it was really bad. It also was supposed to come with zucchini and instead we both received a bunch a broccoli that was not so fresh. After 2-3 bites we decided to send it back. We don't normally do this unless something is really bad. We saw the server inform the manager and the manger proceeded to give us a dirty look. She didn't even come over to apologize or ask what we didn't like about it. We then figured we would be on the safe side ordering a chicken salad and migas. They messed up the salad order and my migas were almost nothing but chips. Very disappointed and will not return mainly because the manager giving us dirty looks and not stopping by. My husband and I went here with our daughter last Friday morning and thought it would be really good because of the wait to get a table, boy were we disappointed. We were looking for a good breakfast place close to home. I ordered the French toast (very plain and boring and no topping options except Maple Syrup) we shared a cinnamon roll (dough had a weird, sort of bad smell/flavor), my daughter had the 1x1x1 and got a huge pancake, also mediocre). My husband ordered the chorizo plate and was disappointed that it was not at all spicy as well as the fact they don't have Tabasco on the table for those who want it hotter. Overall the prices were high for what we got and there was nothing that good about any of it. We are new to the area (and State) and will be looking elsewhere for a good breakfast. Sometimes VERY fast meal service, sometimes not so fast...as long as you don't consider it a fast-food alternative the wait is never too long. It's always the same older lady that takes my payment and on multiple occasions she has overcharged me and attempted to guilt me into tipping.
