I love that I always feel great after eating a meal here. Although full I have never felt bloated or super uncomfortable, just perfectly satiated having just eaten a meal made of wholesome ingredients. My review is for their meal cleanse plan. They offer both meal and juice plans as cleanses. $70 and $60 respectively but they had a January special where cleanses are 50% off. Honestly, I can only afford these cleanses when they're half off and even then I wouldn't normally spend that much to eat per day. But hey this is for my health and I just wanted a restart to the new year. I LOVE the convenience of not having to plan my meals for the week. Everything is there for you in a box and they even have times of when you're supposed to take everything although I'm always behind schedule. Food is very tasty and I love the juices. A couple comments regarding the experience: Even though I called in advance to place my cleanse orders, they weren't always ready when I arrived. Not a huge deal to wait but I thought that was the point of pre-ordering so that the restaurant had them ready for you. Also, they overcharged me initially when I placed the phone order and when I brought it up in person the manager gave me $20 rewards card to cover the $19.95 and I had to come back and let them know I just wanted the credit back to my debit. Seems a wierd practice to offer a rewards card in place of a refund when that was the original form of payment. But it was corrected so again not a huge deal. Although I do love the convenience of the meal plans and I feel lighter afterwards, I just can't justify the cost and think this will be my last time. read more

I finally got to visit Cafe Gratitude last week after hearing about it for years. This was my lunch of choice having arrived in LA at 7am after a 14 hour flight from Sydney. Time for some nutrients. For lunchtime on a Friday the place was pretty full but there were a few empty tables. I nabbed one in the covered patio area and the server came over pretty promptly. I took a while to make a decision so she recommended the whole/macrobiotic bowl because it was the most popular. I ordered that and a glass of rosé. Both came out pretty quickly. On the whole the bowl was good - colorful and with quality ingredients. Their kim chee though was so unbelievably salty. I split tiny pieces of it up with the rest of the items and that helped. I love salt but it was really insane. The wine was decent but not my favorite, I won't blame that on them though because each glass is so different and I'm not a connoisseur/good at knowing which ones I like. The other jam here is that each dish on the menu is named something positive and when you order they repeat an affirmation back to you. Also they have a daily question and on this occasion it was 'what inspires you to give back to others' or something along those lines. It was all nice and positive I guess but I'm not really into that - I'm not a yoga goddess/I heart Lululemon kinda person. I can see why it is nice and part of creating the experience. But if I were to come here all the time I probably would want to skip that. Anyway, all in all very good. The location, decor, ambiance and service were all great. I wasn't blown away by the bowl because there are some amazing vegan places around these days. I would like to come back and try something a bit more exotic and perhaps a dessert. I love vegan food, and I love their mint chip shake here, but the food always tastes a little weird. I really didn't like the summer harvest salad. It was soggy and the ingredients didn't go well together even though by reading the list of ingredients, you would think that it would.I can't tell what some of the ingredients are or spices that they use. 1) Our outside seating was adjacent to a giant brick column blocking our view 2) Our appetizer was literally 8 chips with a scoop of guac for $10 (photo attached). I really don't like giving Cafe Gratitude a low score because they are consistently a really great establishment. The staff is great, the food is incredible and it's vegan!! But I have to complain about the recent changes in the plates/bowls that the food is served in. Today there were so many chips and cracks in the ceramic dish that I thought when I bit down I could feel something crunchy and that wasn't a good crunchy like food crunchy. They used to have really great bowls that they served their food in which was never chipped or cracked and most recently changed to this white textured ceramic bowl that when your spoon and fork scrapes across the bottom it makes a rough sound like nails on a chalkboard. The old bowls never had cracks or chips in them and they had a very smooth glazed finish. As soon as they change their bowls and plates they will get back their 5 stars!!! read more

The food was AMAZING. Everything looked so beautiful and tasted great. Many creative dishes, sides and drinks to choose from--there's something for everyone even for non plant based. Definitely try the coconut "calamari" as it's interesting. The buffalo cauliflower was tasty but not crispy as I'd like (we got 3 orders of it and none of them were crispy). The roasted yams were great. I got the I am Adventurous bowl, which I HIGHLY recommend (the smoked tofu was crazy good). I added coconut bacon which you can see in the picture. Cafe Gratitude is so cute and uplifting. I love the way the menu is set up, the decor inside the restaurant, and the little details on the plates. My only regret is that I came here when I wasn't too hungry. There were so many things I wanted to try but I ended up getting the eggplant caponata, which was made with gluten free quinoa pasta shells and had Brazil nut Parmesan on top. It was simple yet delicious and everything was cooked to the right point. For dessert I tried the key lime pie and it did not disappoint. Everyone else's meals also looked amazing and I really want to come back here and just start going down the menu. If your in the Venice area and don't go to Cafe Gratitude there is something seriously wrong with you!! Your in Venice, its hipster and funky and zenned out. Even if your not vegan, or gluten free you need to go and just try it!! Everything is amazing and its filling and super good for you!! The servers are great and very helpful in deciding what to order if your unsure. I happened to be there on a Tuesday, which was Taco Tuesday!! They had this awesome Taco Trio, it wasn't what I came for ( I love their breakfast!) it totally hit the spot. The restaurant is super clean and airy I love to sit outside. My breakfast experience at the vegan restaurant was disappointing primarily due to the unsatisfactory hot lattes. The coffee was not hot, tasted bitter, and lacked sweetness, even after adding sugar. The server's response about machine and staff issues was unsatisfactory, making the coffee comparable to cheap convenience store coffee. I came here tonight for the first time in years and was thoroughly disappointed. First, the food was overpriced and somewhat terrible. I ordered a $16.5 salad (not sure why they wouldn't round up for parsimony); I would normally assume such a salad (the gem caesar) would cost $8 (on a good day). Further, the taste was off, and I ended up taking half home due to my confusion over how inedible it was. The service was good (hostess A+, server, B+). The cleanliness throughout seemed questionable (I don't recall this being an issue when I visited a few years ago). This place was yummy and we did enjoy our lunch, the staff was very nice and you could tell they were working hard. although it was $45 for lunch for which seemed like a lot for a simple Mexican lunch. We both had a drink though and since we were starving after hanging at the beach I didn't mind paying that much at the time. It was really busy and there was a line for the bathroom! I am in an industry that gets catered lunches frequently, and from Cafe Gratitude especially frequently. I am always one to appreciate a free lunch and this place does have great salads and sandwiches, but PLEASE STOP BUYING THE "B"LT WRAP! The coconut bacon doesn't belong anywhere near a wrap. I love coconut but trust me in saying it's NOT a good combination. Everyone in our office leaves it 25% eaten cause nobody can finish one of these gross wraps. I've been around the cafe gratitude community since its beginnings and have experienced its ups and downs in its evolution. I lived for several years in SF - for one year just around the corner from the original first Harrison Street location - and both enjoyed its great community and vegan offerings - as well as occasionally being surprised when hearing stories from some of their employees of what went on behind the scenes, and what training was allegedly required in order to continue being a member of the staff. My experience today with Gratitude Venice has restored my faith in the merits and great spirit of this long running, if not quasi-legendary vegan hub of California. I took a seat at the bar with my buddy and the service was prompt and enthusiastic. The food and coffee was delivered fresh and tasty. I want to give a special shout out to the Sunday Morning behind the bar crew, and especially to Angel who made our brunch experience extraordinary. Angel was super attentive to each of our needs and was absolutely stellar in his response time to anything we needed!! It is staff members like him that is re-creating and restoring a great new culture and gratitude and I'm inspired to come back to this location to try some new dishes, hopefully with him at the bar again! Hats off to the whole crew this Sunday at Gratitude because to me the food is just a small part of the experience and it was the amazing energy and service of Angel and the staff that fed me more than just the great vegan food. Overall a great experience and would definitely come back. We got "I am humble" and "I am liberated" to share and liked both but liberated was definitely the favorite. Liberated included thai almond sauce, carrots, red bell pepper, kale, toasted almonds, sprouts and was so flavorful. It's a cold dish and while listed as an entree it felt more like an app for me just because it's so light. Would definitely order again but maybe for something like brunch vs dinner if I couldn't split another dish with someone else. Humble included red lentil dal, spinach, roasted garnet yams, coconut mint chutney, spicy tomato jam, brown rice/quinoa (you can choose half and half rice and quinoa which we did). This was also pretty tasty and more hearty/warm/filling but could use a bit more flavor. Hot sauce definitely saved the day on this dish. Finally we got the "high" alcohol kombucha from boochcraft to share, which has like 7% abv but was nonetheless delicious and easy to drink (reminiscent of a tasty cider). I also like the decor of the place - lots of clean lines and spacious so I didn't feel crowded as I often do in nyc, but still cozy with cushions on the seats against the wall/booths. What a great way for a diehard carnivore to detox, reset, and experience something totally new and different. Carnitas made from mushrooms? Mind blown! Granted the flavors you experience are not what you are expecting. Avocado Key Lime pie? Crazy! My only issue is that the Black Bean burger had a high amount of beets. The fries are delicious! Amazing vegan spot that feels more like a normal restaurant than a Hipster Vegan dive. It's "upscale vegan" which I've never really experience. Awesome ambiance & decor. Super chill servers (although sometimes they forget things and the kitchen can be super slow sometimes). Reasonably priced for the the love they put in their food. I am a huge fan of the Coconut "Calamari" and the Tempeh Mole dish. The nachos are bursting with tasty vegan cheese and quite yummy too. Lovely ambiance with danish vibes and open indoor and outdoor seating. Their menu is entirely vegan or vegetarian but they manage to make everything quite tasty. Even the meat eating members of my party enjoyed their meatless meals. I like how you can order and pay for your food all online and very seamlessly. They still need to work on their execution as not exactly consistent. The fries came out cold for one of our orders but they nicely provided a bowl of hot fries as a replacement when we brought it to the attention of the staff. Pass on the chilaquiles as they were soggy but would recommend the mushroom quesadilla (forgot what it was called - soy something) and their gluten free banana bread. read more
