We went sat night and ordered pickled vegy and pork stomach: Vegys right out of the jar/can, but pork stomach was at least tender, but no seasoning. This is definitely one of my favorite Taiwanese restaurants in the US. High quality ingredients, everything cooked to perfection, with a taste of home in every bite. Despite it's tacky restaurant name, this place has REALLY bombdiggity Chinese Taiwanese food! I came here on Chinese New Years eve and it was crowded with so many families from babies to grandparents. My parents brought us here and I was delightfully surprised by their authentic Chinese dishes that reminded me of dining in Asia. Every dish was delicious! We had lobster, their famous large white fish (not sure what it's called), walnut shrimp, san bai chicken with intestines, some delicious/healthy soup that they slowly cook in front of you...and a ton of others that I can't pronounce. They even had taiwanese beer snacks.. this tiny mussel dish that was salty and soy saucy.. We ordered so much that the owner of the restaurant told us to stop ordering.. haha Writing this review made me realize I can't do this restaurant justice with my broken Chinese and lack of details for their dishes...but it's definitely worth trying! read more

Parking: There is a small lot in the back. I suggest just doing street parking Even though it says cafe, it is actually a family style restaurant so don't expect to order baked pork chop spaghetti. The menu was filled with a lot of comfort Chinese food. Judging from the dishes and the spices, this is not a Hong Kong style restaurant but rather Chinese. We got the three cup Tofu which is a play on the three cup chicken popular among Taiwanese dishes. The tofu had a silky inside and a soft soggy texture from having absorbed all the sauces. Also you can ask for rice. I am not sure if it is unlimited or not. You get a free drink when checking in on yelp. The free drink is really sour. I didn't like it but my friends did. They should really change the name Cafe Fusion. There's nothing "fusion" about this place at all! They serve nothing but extremely authentic Taiwanese comfort food. Even since we discovered this place, we've been going there every week! Each visit, we ordered different items and they have never let us down. We love their Steamed Black Cod ($29, trust me, its cheaper than buying a fresh black cod from the fish market), Black Bean Oyster with Tofu, Bamboo Shouts with shredded Pork, Pork blood stirred fried with Leek. They're out of everything and the servers seem confused, even though the majority seem to have been pre-transition hires. 3/8 dishes ordered were "sold out" at 6 pm, with only another party in the restaurant. Lobster salad uses pre-chopped fruit now that isn't very well preserved. There's also less lobster. Walnut shrimp is over-battered, oyster pancake uses chopped up oysters instead of whole ones. I believe Asian food just comes in slight variations from region to region. Cafe Fusion accurately depicts the delicate and unique flavors of Taiwanese cuisine. For those used to Cantonese and westernized Chinese food, Taiwanese food can take a while getting used to as Taiwanese cuisine doesn't use as much deep frying and MSG to flavor their food. Also, the ingredients used are also different from what a lot of people are used to. Pigs feet, kidney etc. Some of my favorite dishes at Cafe Fusion include but are not limited to the Sea Urchin noodles and 龍鬚菜 (Dragon Whiskers). Sea Urchin has a naturally creamy texture giving the stir fried noodles a rich flavor comparable to "alfredo". The Dragon Whiskers are Chayote leaves mixed with some sesame oil and cilantro, a unique and very light appetizer to start of your meal. Service and hospitality are on point. All the manager and servers are all very polite and courteous. Very patient when we asked for things and changed our plates as they got dirty. Pricing is a little on the higher end, but I wouldn't mind come back once in a while to vary up my food choice. read more

Other reviews have said the most about this place, but let me just reiterate... GET THE BLACK COD. It is now the best-tasting fish I have ever had. Their giant pork dish was really impressive too. It's a bit pricey, but the quality and quantity of food easily justifies it. Also, contrary to other reviews, our service was good. We had a nice older woman taking care of us. Every vegetable dish, meat dish, fish, soup, appetizer, etc I've tried has been prepared to perfection. The flavor is always on par, but never too strong or oily. The reason for the loss of a star is because of lack of attention to a couple of minor issues. The walls next to the tables don't seem to get cleaned, so there's crusty food splatter next to your arm. The other one is the restroom. It just looks like they need to deep clean it a little. We finally eyed the unlit sign and went to the back of the lot. it's in an alley way so you might have to back by reversing down the lane. We went through the back entrance and asked if they had stinky tofu. They said no and since we already seated we decided to try it out. Also I came with a friend who was vegetarian, so I got to try more of their chinese vege dishes and they were pretty tasty. cons: the service can be improved. we tried to change our table so we were not sitting right next to the bathroom and the waitress literally rolled her eyes. Didn't think the bitchiness was necessary. their menu was impossible to read! there was this page in the menu where the entire page was wall papered with multicolored chinese characters. without punctuation, without line breaks. As a work of art it might be quite dazzling, but as a menu, it is simply headache inducing. my friend Angus said that he wouldn't come back solely because of the menu.... Finally, on a rather personal note, Cafe Fusion somehow advertises itself as a Taiwanese cuisine. As a Taiwanese native, I can assure you that there is nothing Taiwanese about this place. The dishes are not represantational of nor inspired by Taiwanese culture. A trusted foodie recommended this place and his advice was to order anything not familiar. The low ratings, he thinks, are from those who order kung pao chicken. We ordered pork belly, Taiwanese sausage appetizer, cucumber garlic appetizer and fried sticky rice dessert. No complaints on the food. Delivery service is so bad. I called the restaurant for delivery, after i ordered, i told the lady that i only have a card i dont have cash, she said that's okay the delivery guy will swipe it for me. When the delivery got here, he's not aware that im using a card. The food is delicious here. I love the steam black cod, 3 cup chicken, bitter melon with egg yolk sauce. Their seafood is very fresh and the waitress told me that the new owner loves to explore for fresh ingredients. It is very hard to find an upscale restaurant that serves authentic Taiwanese food. It's my aunt's birthday and she chose this place because she loved the lobster salad here. So I came all the way from Ontario to Arcadia for her birthday dinner at this restaurant. First the parking is already not convenient. It's Saturday around 7pm so you can imagine even street parking's not easy. We settled down and my aunt told the waiter they can start serving now since everyone's here. Yes we had reservation and pre-ordered dishes. It was about 7:30pm when she told the waiter. Pretty fast we got the first dish. In the next 30 minutes 2 other cold dishes were served. And then for the next hour or so, nothing. We waited until after 9pm to see the rest dishes. The last one came out around 9:35pm - they close at 9:30pm. Usually I am very sensitive to business hours because I do feel those workers, and it's so bad they have to stay and serve people after hours. But this time, sorry, I would have to take my time to finish my food. Before we paid, I think it's either the manager or owner came to us and apologize. I think the problem is, you don't wait until then to apologize. You should have your waiters kindly let us know what happened in the kitchen and how long we have to wait. At least keep us updated, not just let us sitting there not even refill our tea - yes we have to ask several times for tea refill. I don't think I would go back there again. This place never disappoints, always bringing their A-game to the table. Delicious traditional Taiwanese food! Don't be confused or tricked by their name. There's nothing fusion about this place, all traditional Taiwanese food. "Fusion" comes from the pronunciation of its Chinese name, which sounds like "fusion". The tea here is very good. They even serve the pot of tea on top of a candle holder, which keeps the tea warm at all times! If you like the tea, you can always buy a box of teabags up front by the cashier, along with a lot of other goodies. They also sell some fresh imported fruits, such as gigantic grapes, logan berry, oranges, etc (all are really sweet!). They give you a complementary dish of seaweed salad in the beginning. I have tried many dishes here, but here are some of my all time faves (not sure what the english name is suppose to be since we order in chinese, but I'll try to describe it accurately): STEAMED WHOLE BLACK CODFISH: I have never had such delicious steam fish before. The meat is tender and juicy. The cod fish is meaty and you can definitely taste the fish oil/fat. It is steamed to perfection. Because the fish is quite oily by itself, the berries that are steamed with the fish provide a sour taste that balances well with the fatty-ness of the fish. Definitely need to come with a lot of people to order this because the fish is pretty big. STEAMED GARLIC PORK BELLY SLICES: What is great about this dish is that the pork is served warm. Other restaurants typically serve it cold, but serving it warm definitely makes a big difference. They serve it with a garlic soy sauce. The meat is tender and the fatty layers of the pork is well balanced with the meat layers and the sauce. TOFU with THOUSAND YEAR OLD EGG and SHREDDED DRIED PORK: This is a cold appetizer. Its a block of cut tofu topped with the shredded dried pork and some sort of soy sauce and surrounded with the thousand year old egg. It might not sound very good, but if you love tofu, thousand year old egg and/or shredded dried pork, this dish is DELICIOUS! RAW CLAMS MARINATED IN WINE, GARLIC AND CHILI: This dish is sort of like ceviche, but Chinese style. These are tiny clams, they are suppose to be tiny. Don't be in shock when you see them and thinking its a rip off, that's how the dish is suppose to be. The clams are always very fresh. Even though they are small, they are pretty meaty for its size. The clams are marinated whole, still in the shell. The marinate is amazing, definitely can taste the Chinese wine they used to marinate it. THREE CUP CHICKEN: A very traditional taiwanese dish. I like how they have a lot of basil in it. The chicken is juicy and tender, not overcooked and dried at other places. The sauce is very flavorful. DESSERT IS A MUST-TRY: GLUTENOUS RICE BALLS FILLED WITH BLACK SESAME FILLING IN A RICE WINE DESSERT SOUP! AMAZING. You have to order this ahead of time, it takes about 30 minutes to make because they roll those glutenous rice balls fresh! A small order gives about 6 bowls, a large order gives about 10 bowls. Definitely worth the wait if you forget to order it ahead of time. The soup in of itself is very fragrant from the rice wine and not very sweet, but is balanced well with the sweetness from the black sesame filling. Overall, delicious food. Its a bit pricey, but I think it is definitely worth it. There are not that many traditional Taiwanese places in the area. The ones that are around do not serve this type of Taiwanese food, those places serve more casual dining, such as noodles and dumplings. You can't compare this place to those typical Taiwanese noodle places (this place doesn't even have the traditional beef noodles!). This place specializes in seafood. (they even have a dinner menu for 10 people for $1200, all seafood!) I've even seen people ordering sweet shrimp sashimi, uni sashimi and whole lobster sashimi! The boss is very friendly. Came here w/ family friends for Thanksgiving dinner and since we had many kids, in the beginning we were busy feeding the kids and ordered cream of corn with chicken soup,the pork fried noodles, and Fried egg tofu w/ vegetables. Since I was starving, I start to stuff myself with their fried noodle before the real yummy dishes came out. Don't get me wrong, the fried noodle was pretty good. But all their dishes are very small, we had 8 adults and 6 kids, and we had to ordered double for each to be able to feed all of us. Here is some dishes that I really like for that night: - Broiled Squids with sweet and sour dressing, I recommend to dip this in mayonnaise instead of the sauce it came with. - Steamed whole black cod with Taiwanese tree seeds: omg..the fish was so fresh and so tender!! - Steam lobster: we had a 4.5 lbs and the price came out to be around $45 which is very decent for lobster and it was super fresh!!! - Trio (duck tongues, chicken and pork intestines) with sesame oil wine & Basil: this is really really good, it's a bit heavy so it's very good with white rice. I'm drooling as I write this review, b/c the food was really yummy!! It's a place that is good for group since you can order multiple dishes and share, and if you can, try to have the owner recommending dishes for you, he's very good. We had another waitress took order for us in the beginning, she wasn't sure if the food is enough, and we end up asking the owner to add additional dishes for us. FINALLY!! The heavens have heard my prayers on sending me an authentic Taiwanese restaurant! It's such shame what we call food these days, especially on chinese food. This place is so amazingly good and so accurate on what Taiwanese food should be. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for! instead of those other cheap, greasy, non-authentic, full of msg chinese restaurants. This place DOES NOT use any msg, if that's important to you, because it is to me...... I swell up like a ballon when I eat foods with msg. You MUST get their snow fish (xue-yu)..... it is by far the best fish I have ever ate in LA so far. Everything else is really good as well, but the fish is what this place is most famous for. Although the name is confusing, this is an authentic Taiwanese restaurant that serves dishes that you will not find elsewhere. I am Taiwanese and have been coming to this restaurant for the last couple of years after they took it over from the previous owners ( previous restaurant served Chinese cuisine and not Taiwanese) Some of the dishes I enjoy there frequently are (names are exactly what the menu says) *Must Try* Steamed whole ling cod with Taiwanese tree seeds (the seeds which is the first time I've ever seen used in the US gives great flavor to the steam fish) Calamari & chicken with sesame oil & wine, also known as the "3 cup" type dishes Oyster fried with basil Mutton with green onions Beef with burdock root (also known as Gobo) Pork with bamboo shoots (fresh) A couple of dishes that are not on the menu are: sauteed dragon-whisker vegetable (my translation.. its a vegetable popular in Taiwan but not available in the markets) sesame oil 4 kinds ( the 4 kinds refers to pork kidney, sheep kidney, chicken testes and sheep testes) I do not recommend this dish to people who do not like innards, its an acquired taste. The prices are very reasonable. We ordered 8 dishes and an appetizer for 8 people and the bill was $16 per person. Pros: /Their house tea is the best tea I've had in a Chinese/Taiwanese restaurant /restaurant is very clean /they are going for a more high end feel of a Taiwanese restaurant /some traditional Taiwanese dishes /easy parking in the back of the Restaurant ( however, they should put a sign on Live Oak that there is parking in the back). Cons: /pricing and white rice amount. I would give a large bowl of rice for the price of the dish vs a small bowl per person. /service - they were nice but need to be American waitress trained. Food is decent. Most staffs only speak Chinese. I can't speak Chinese so ordering was tough. After going back and forth, we got our food. They should change their name though, cafe fusion makes you think of "fusion"!! This place definitely is not a fusion place. It's straight up Hard core Chinese! Regardless, it was good. Expect some ethic food, none of those Orange chicken joke. But black chicken/snail stuffs. Some veggies you have never seen before and some cold chicken. If it wasn't for BF taking me here to meet up with his best friend and wifie...I probably would've not tried this place due to the name "Fusion." But the food is not what the name is trying to convey? Ambiance: typical Chinese/Taiwanese restaurant in Asia. Nothing fancy but a place to dine with a group or gather for a good catch up. Food: just the 4 of us & we ordered over 7+ large dishes?? But I'm not complaining! I love trying different dishes or even the whole menu. I wouldn't say I'm the best critic for Taiwanese food, but I'm familiar with most of the dishes through out my global experience around the world as a child. This place is pretty legit. If you're a Taiwanese and is craving for your food from your homeland then definitely give this place a try. I don't believe there's any that's better in the Chinese community. Who knew that a place called Cafe Fusion would serve authentic Taiwanese food. I came here with my family for dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant is pretty busy, so if you're a person looking for good service, this is probably not your best bet. It's weird, some of the workers there make you feel at home and are prompt about serving you, but others were just flat out rude and didn't seem to want to help you. The food is pretty good though, so if you're okay with it, you'll be getting some good Taiwanese food. We ordered a bunch and just shared. Vegetables sauteed with peanuts: this was absolutely delicious. They used the salted peanuts, but the saltiness definitely did not overpower the dish. In fact, it was more flavorful than salty, which I think is a major plus. It was strangely addicting--and I was glad that it was a vegetable dish so I wouldn't fill myself up before the rest of the entrees arrived. Bamboo with mayonnaise: this is a typical dish you can get at Taiwanese restaurants. Basically, chopped up bamboo shoots with mayonnaise as a dip. If you've never had something like this, definitely give it a try! I'm not sure whether this was complementary or not, but I did see a bunch of tables get this. Three Cup Squid: when the waitresses were bringing the food and we were waiting in line, I asked my dad if we could order that. Very flavorful, and you can distinctly taste the squid, which was pretty fresh. The sauce is not too salty nor sweet, and it complements the dish perfectly. Crab with Shallots and Ginger: I feel like this is the typical way to cook crab in Chinese restaurants. Nevertheless, they do a really good job of it. While you can taste the freshness of the crab meat, there is also the sauce they use to sautee the dish, which is composed of ginger and shallots. The shallot pieces are really nice and soft, and are delicious with the sauce! Shrimp (I'm not sure how this was cooked): BUT, it was delicious as well. Not honey walnut shrimp, but more like a sauteed dish over lettuce/vegetables. This is also another pretty typical way to cook shrimp in Taiwanese restaurants, I think. It was similar to the crab dish (taste-wise), but I think on the lighter side. Still delicious though! Clams: kind of like the three cup squid (taste wise), but not as fresh :( I could taste the fishiness (if you will) of the clams, which isn't good. Out of all of the dishes I've had here, I would say skip the clams. After one or two, I didn't really want to eat anymore--the other dishes were definitely better. Dinner ends with a small fruit platter, consisting of oranges and grapes. I was sick, so I was glad they had the oranges! Recommendations: walnut shrimp I'm not sure why it's called "fusion" because the bulk of the menu seems to be Chinese/Taiwanese food. Regardless of the name, the food here is pretty good. I've liked everything I tried here. I really love the fatty pork dish, but like the name suggests, it's somewhat fattening. Well, there's a lot of gelatin in the dish which is supposed to be good for your bones and cartilage. Last time I went, I had the bamboo shoots appetizer with a honey mustard dip. We also ordered the walnut shrimp dish (we always order this everywhere), and a few other random dishes. You know, I can't really think of anything specific to recommend because everything is good. The only strange thing about this place is their tea pot, though very cute. seems to be rather small. I feel like we have to keep asking them to refill it at least 2-3 times per meal. Another thing is the way they set off their soups to the side and if you want a refill, you have to ask them. I guess they want to be more accommodating. but it's a bit inconvenient when the waiter is not around ("so, do we get up and go over there to refill the soup ourselves?"). Also, this is a Chinese restaurant, so um...accommodating?! Kind of a weird concept to me. read more
