Dinner with a friend on Friday night called for Mediterranean cuisine. Although we have a few favorites around town, we decided to try someplace new. Surprisingly this restaurant was pretty empty, especially considering that it was a Friday night. I suspect that has more to do with the location than anything else because the service was great and the food was delicious. We started with the babaganoush appetizer which we both enjoyed immensely. Then we each ordered an entree. We have very similar taste so we got the same thing - the lamb combo plate which came with one lule kebab and one lamb kebab. Both were delicious. We finished our meal with Armenian ice cream and baklava. Tip: the baklava is delicious when eaten with the ice cream. Trust me on this. We had their beef and lule kebab plates with their barbary rice and they were super delicious and portions were generous. I went to Cafe Elgante for lunch. It didn't disappoint at all. I ordered chicken kabab. Food was good, chicken was flavorful. This location is close to businesses and university; therefore, it gets really busy at lunch time. You can order take out too which is another great option. You will get your order faster. There are plenty o seats inside. I didn't notice any out door seats. Service is very good. Staff are very attentive and they often check on the tables. Had a mad craving for kabobs so decided to check out this place down the street and so happy I did! The server was so kind, sweet, friendly and welcoming! I placed my order and while waiting, my server brought out some warm pita bread and a sample of their hummus. Now when I say the hummus was fresh, I mean FRESH!!! They make it in house and even a few times throughout the day to keep up with their customers. I ordered the cornish hen plate, added a beef luleh kabob and got half rice, half salad. Had to do the happy dance in my chair after that first bite! The Cornish hen was delicious, juicy, and had amazing flavor! The beef luleh was equally good, flavor and seasoning were spot on. The rice was so fluffy and paired so well with each bite. Even their salad was good with dressing made in house. Overall this spot is definitely gonna be my new go-to and I'm excited to try other things on the menu. Place was clean, staff was friendly and so stoked to have this within walking distance. The food was okay - got Chicken kabob and koobideh combo. The koobideh had more flavor than the kabob. Also got garlic sauce, but that just tasted like yogurt, no garlic taste. The hummus was a very large portion, but didn't really like it, was very much just chickpeas and a bit grainy. They seemed to use more cumin than sumac/lemon. I can honestly say I pass by this place every week when I go wash my clothes down the street. I wasn't hungry but I wanted to try something new so I finally drove into the parking lot. It's a small parking lot but there were 7 different spots available and they're wide enough for any vehicle. So I walk in and go straight for the counter. I spoke to a young woman behind the counter and asked for a menu. I was so happy to see a paper menu and it was quality. It was thick and the pictures of the food were in color. I ordered the SOLTANI Combination. By far it was the most delicious meat I've had all year (lol). It's only the 6 day of January. The meat just melted in my mouth with every bite. This beef was incredible with a fantastic flavoring. The rice hit the spot and I can't believe I have so much of it just for me. The grilled veggies had the right amount of char from the fire. I saw they had a Christmas tree and that made me happy to see the spirit of the holidays in here. 100% I will definitely come back and try the chicken. I loved my meal and I took it to go and despite the traffic on a Friday night my food remained warm. The presentation of the food in the to go box was eye catching. The portions are really good and even though it looks like a lot of food, I always end up eating the whole plate because it's so good! The staff are friendly and the restaurant itself is clean and comfortable. It's in a little strip mall so parking is easy in the lot, but there's also a lot of street parking too. Oh wow... this place is just amazing. I haven't had food this excellent in many many years. Every single dish was phenomenal, which is so rare- usually I just have one or two favorite dishes. Every new bite was an adventure. I used to own a fusion food business and I have a lifelong friend who currently owns a Mediterranean restaurant so I am very discerning when it comes to Mediterranean food and food in general.
