I am so happy with my experience - delicious, sweet, and in a space that felt so homey! Also, I'd like to point out how beautiful it is that so many folks from different walks of life were finding comfort in this same space. There was a group of construction workers on their lunch break together, a table of two having a deep discussion about something important, a woman on her laptop, a couple folks wanting a good chat at the bar, and that's just those of us who were downstairs. I asked the barista what her go to is and she hooked me up with this beauty! I have gotten chai so many times in my life. I've quite literally have had hundreds of chais. I love chai. A couple of extra perks worth mentioning: They offer a loyalty punch card, so after about 8-9 visits, you can earn yourself a free drink! Who doesn't love a little reward for coming back?! They have really expanded their food options and gotten really creative with their seasonal drinks. They also offer their own coffee beans for purchase and other items. The staff was super friendly and did a fantastic job navigating the loud environment (we came at a busy time) and explaining the menu. We were excited for the seasonal menu and I tried the Strawberry Matcha. My husband tried the Americola. Both delicious! The matcha is high quality and not watered down with milk. You can tell they are making traditional and crafted drinks at Locke! One downside is their one size is pretty small, but the drinks are "typically" priced. You're paying for the quality of the drink, but my seasonal drink at $8 was pretty comparable to a seasonal drink at other local craft coffee shops that would typically come in a 12oz to-go cup and I believe their cups are 8oz? I did see a comment from the owner that they offer a 12oz iced latte so maybe I missed that. But you'll notice everything is smaller than usual if you're looking for a larger option. Again, happy to pay a bit more for a great drink! Just part of the deal. Speaking of paying, they are currently not taking cash. I had planned to use cash so was bummed but no biggie. All comes from the same place! Would love in the future if this eventually changed, though! And second, we visited on a Sunday morning so it was busy (yay!) and it was a little unclear where the line should be, it ended up snaking backward but we blocked the entrance of new folks coming in to join at times. I am certain they will work that out with time and it's much different when it's a slower time at the shop! We will definitely be back! I already want to try their fall seasonal drinks when it's time... Newport is just a lovely area to walk around and this is a great location. You have to pay for parking (even on Sundays) but we make an outing of it and it's very worth it. I decided on the Purple Haze and chai muffin because they both caught my eye at the front counter. The Barista was kind and mindful, asking me for the correct spelling of my name as he took my order (bonus points for that). It wasn't a long wait for my order because I don't believe the regular morning crowd had arrived just yet. As I left and took that first sip...mmm mmm, I was blown away. Now I know some will say it's just coffee, but I will argue and say it's more than that. None of the ingredients were overpowering each other, and the taste of coffee itself wasn't overly present. It was just what I needed that morning. After I reached my office, before I dove into that heavenly muffin, I snapped a picture (sorry the drink was just too good). I enjoyed the chai in the muffin and am glad that small bites have been added to the menu to pair with the drinks. Black Coffee will be on my list to try other things on the menu as I start my new morning routine this summer walking to the office. I don't know if I'll be able to break away from that Purple Haze though
