My husband was in the mood for a coffee date ("with ambiance and vibes, " he insisted), and a quick online search brought us to the doors of Cafe Baires. There's a lot going for this cafe. For one, the drinks are pretty nice. We had small misgivings with our drinks. My husband found his chai latte to be lukewarm, and I wished my strawberry matcha were just a tad sweeter. But I was impressed by the way they took the time to muddle the strawberry blend into the cup and properly whisk the matcha. Secondly, the inside is nothing like you'd expect from the outside. There's a small seating space on the ground floor, but once you go up the stairs in the back and go down a small hallway, the space suddenly opens up to a cavernous room. It was a little quirky, a total surprise, and added to the charm of this local cafe. We came for the drinks, but I was blown away by the empanadas. They're warmed up in a toaster upon ordering, creating a beautifully crunchy exterior that nicely contrasted the tender, aromatic ground beef inside. I went so bananas for this that I sent my husband back to the register for another one while we were still midway through the first. The ham and cheese empanada was a close second, with the same fresh crunch on the outside and an impressive cheese pull. Service is just lovely. If you order comestibles, they'll bring it to your table. We were torn between two, so much that we asked our barista which she preferred. She certainly didn't lead us astray with her recommendation, but minutes later, she brought us the other one for free. "Because you wanted to try it," she said with a smile. Your options for parking in this area is limited to whatever paid metered spots you can find. Depending on what day and time you're in the area, spots can be a little tougher to come by, but I've never had to search longer than five minutes.

Pina colada matcha with pistachio croissant

Parking took a while to find and street parking only which you do have to pay for. I came to try their matcha and ended up getting a pistachio croissant too. The mango matcha sounded good but got the pina colada instead. The flavor was lacking. Not overly sweet but also didn't have much of a pina colada or even a matcha flavor. The croissant was really yummy. Lots more space to sit when you go upstairs to the back. Nice spot to try out but not something I'd come again for.

Excellent customer service. One of the best cappuccinos I've had in a while, and it's not just because of the cutest presentation! Very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. Can wait to go back to try their baked goods!

Cafe Baires is a must visit if you're in downtown Hackensack! It's an Argentinian bakery and coffee house serving freshly brewed espresso beverages and authentic pastries. They've only been open for a year or so, but have been very successful! I've visited a few times and have never been disappointed. The interior is cozy and chic, with Argentinian-inspired decor like navy blue accents, lush greenery, wooden tones, leather couches, and wall art of Buenos Aires. There are two floors with seating and lounge areas. It truly feels like you're in someone's comfy living room! The cafe is part of an apartment building that used to be a bank, so there are high ceilings and arched windows. The owner, Jeremias, added thoughtful touches to make the cafe a welcoming and inviting space for customers. They have free wifi, outlets, dog treats, and crayons for kids! The menu offers your classic espresso beverages as well as seasonal and specialty drinks. My all-time favorite is the dulce de leche latte. I've had it hot and iced. They both taste amazing, but I prefer it hot. The steamed milk froth is the perfect texture - silky and creamy with micro foam bubbles. They have a machine that prints out cute messages/latte art on the surface :) The drink itself has a good balance between espresso, steamed milk, and dulce de leche sauce. If you need that strong cup of coffee that will keep you energized, you came to the right spot. The espresso is bold, rich, smooth, and well balanced with the caramelized, milky sweetness of the dulce de leche. They have a variety of popular Argentinian pastries like medialunas, vigilantes, bolas, sacramentos, margarita pasteleras, empanadas, and more. Everything is baked with love, freshly made in-house, and delicious! You cannot go wrong with trying any of them. The dough is flaky, buttery, and fluffy. Nothing is overly sweet. If you're a fan of dulce de leche (caramelized milk jam), you're in the right place because many of the pastries are filled with it. And if you've never tried it before... you must!!! Don't forget to grab an empanada, especially the beef! The dough is flaky, tender, and stuffed with a ton of meat. The filling consists of ground beef, onions, bell peppers, hard-boiled eggs, and spices (cumin, paprika, oregano). The beef is juicy, savory, and seasoned with warm spices for a touch of heat. The staff are always welcoming, friendly, and personable. They have a lot of loyal/regular customers (rightfully so) and there's a genuine sense of community here. This is the type of spot that will remember your face, name, and order. It's not easy to find great customer service nowadays. Drinks crafted with care, fresh pastries, warm service, and a cozy environment? Now that's the type of cafe that I will keep coming back to over and over again. Stop by Cafe Baires if you want a taste of Argentina!

I am finally able to get to this cute cafe. The only downside is that it is on Main St, which can be tough to find parking. That was the reason I was hesitant to visit. In any case, the latte tasted good, and the art was cute. Can't complain. We had a couple of pastries, which I forgot to photograph. But they were also good. The staff were so lovely. I would definitely return. Oh. They also have upstairs seating, which is a plus.

Oh, oh.....I found another gem within Hackensack. Café Baires is so new to the scene, that they're still constructing the second floor. I appreciate that they opened now and I enjoyed this visit. The service is stellar. The owners were very friendly, created great beverages, and the food was delicious. My beverage was a Mocha Cappuccino and it was amazing. It was artistically crafted and tasted even better. My food choices were a Cheese Empanada, which was nicely filled with flavorful cheese, and the "Tostado" (Ham, Cheese, mayo, butter, salt). This sandwich was SO GOOD! I thoroughly enjoyed the taste of the sweetness of the butter with the saltiness of the ham. Every bite was delectable and is highly recommended. Thank you Cafe Baires, for giving us another great option in Hackensack, and I look forward to enjoying the next visit on your beautiful second floor.

As a former restaurant owner I see the details and this place didn't miss any of them. Dog treats, calming colors and comfy furniture plus the most important: fast and friendly service. Strawberry matcha was excellent and I'll be back.

Such a cute cafe that's perfect for working remotely or studying! My go too is their dulce de leche latte! I didn't get a picture but i love their beef empanada with their chimichurri! Service is always fast and friendly! Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

Coffee was good and prices were incredibly reasonable. They are pet (not just service animal) friendly which isn't my thing, especially when the dog is jumping on the counter and staff and no one says anything.

Dulce de leche latte (can ask for less sweet) and a ham and cheese croissant sandwich. Simply delicious each time.

The long window of treats and eats attests to this, with the pastries and baked goods greeting the eyes first. Further down the line, there are prepared pizzas, and even further, there are sandwiches and signs posting the specials of the day. My husband and I initially walked in with the intention of grabbing a croissant, but we couldn't help ourselves and nabbed a spicy salmon sandwich to share. Ordering was a cinch, and since we were dining in, we were directed to grab a seat. Seating space is aplenty, with an entire half of the interior dedicated to tables. On a weekend morning, there were lots of patrons visiting, and even then, there were lots of seats for us to choose. I'm typically a purist at heart, but there was no stopping me once I saw there was a s'more croissant available. If and when you order one for yourself, they'll ask you if you want it warmed, and the answer is absolutely yes. The marshmallow got melty and gooey, and I gasped when I saw the chocolate inside. It's like a naughty pain au chocolat, and while it was a little on the sweet side for my own preferences, I could see this going over well for those chasing cavities. The spicy salmon was also surprisingly decent, with crunchy bread and salmon that was dressed with a good kick. I noticed there were some other tables with lingering parties, who had clearly long finished their food but weren't being pressured or chased away. A few other parties were dining in and a good amount of people picked up takeout. My sandwich was much bigger than I anticipated but it was delicious. The various meats brought the saltiness and savory flavor I was looking for and it all paired well with the eggs and cheese. The bread it was served in had a nice crunch to it which is always appreciated. The sandwich was great but the next time I get it I have to add the SPK (salt, pepper, ketchup for you non-Jerseyans). I also tried some of my girlfriends French toast. It looked really good and I think I saw them take a picture before bringing it to our table. I'm not mad at that, as a Yelper I'm a firm follower of phone-eats-first! The French toast was delicious. It wasn't overly sweet and the bread had the all-important crunch. Walnuts also added good texture to everything. I think the only thing stopping me from rating this place 5-stars is the price. It's definitely on the pricier side.
