Food was excellent but our waiter was horrible. The food portion is a more than enough to eat now and later. This was our first time eating here as we were visiting from Atlanta. The waiter was very obnoxious and rude. We even wrote on his receipt just how terrible he was. He was not attentive and barely paid us any attention. The server, who brought the food out, was a breath of fresh air. He was very professional but the waiter was horrible. Even at the end of dinner, he just tossed the receipt book on the table. Very horrible!! I'm sure race was an issue bc he had the table on both sides of us but chose to be an a$$hole towards us. Food excellent but service horrible. We came here after work for dinner on Wednesday. So it wasn't very busy. We were seated immediately. Staff is very friendly. Decor is bit dated. I really like their complimentary bread. I could finish the whole basket myself! Every entree is huge. My coworkers and I couldn't finished half of our orders. We ordered desserts to shared. My friend really like the Oreo ice cream cake. My fav is the tiramisu. Napolean is good too. Our least fav is the chocolate mousse cake but that's our waitress' fav(so we tried it anyway)! How did we wait this long to finally give this place a try? We always drove by when running errands and always saw people going in and out and the parking lot full. It was 3:30pm on a Sunday and we were starving. The other restaurant we wanted to go try was packed so I called Cafe Baci and spoke to Steven to ask if there was any waits at the moment and if a table of four was available with room for an infant car seat. Steven said there was one open but tight for a stroller and one table getting up that was a half bench but they could get taken any minute if people walk in. Luckily we were only a block away and made it to the restaurant in time for the table that just got up. Steven heard me tell the host how many people and that I had an infant and he knew right away it was me he spoke to on the phone. He was really sweet and the 2 hosts were very friendly. The place was packed on a Sunday at 3:30pm. Many people going in and out. That's a good sign that this place has good food. I liked that the tables were socially distanced from each other making us feel a little better since we had an infant. Now to the food. We ordered the calamari (daughter loved it). I've eaten here several times over the years. Last week I joined a friend there. We both ordered the pear salad. It was absolutely delicious. There was a variety of lettuce, and it was crispy and fresh. I loved the pears and the walnuts were perfect. I've had different pasta dishes in the past. All have been delicious. We left a plate full, and nobody even noticed until another server asked if there was an issue. They have no one running the floor and doing table touches to ensure food and service is running smoothly. The food is most definitely not fresh. Date Night! It was done on the spur of the moment, but after a movie, it was nice to come to Café Baci even though it looked crowded. We cruised into the jam-packed parking lot and somebody pulled out right in front of us, so things were looking good. The dining room was packed, but the hostess said, "Would you like to sit outside?" It was a cool summer evening, so why not? She led us out to the patio area under 2 giant umbrellas which had 10 tables, only 2 of which were occupied and we had our choice of seating. Providence strikes again! The whole area was bordered by bushes, but the traffic on Merrick Ave tends to be noisy. I would definitely make reservations for the dining room next time. Once we sat, we perused the menu via phone from the QR code provided by out courteous server. A bread basket for a full table of 8 came for the 2 of us with crusty Italian bread and cheesy focaccia. For appetizer, we went with the Hot Antipasto for 2 and it was great! Everything was so perfectly seasoned and it was a hit! The Capellini Balls were definitely the tastiest. The shrimp looked like Jumbo Tigers and are hUgE! My wife ordered the Shrimp Fra Diavolo and came with a plate load more of those monsters! I had expected my Mediterranean Sea Bass to be served broiled whole, but it was made Francese style, sautéed in a tangy lemon sauce and the fish was cooked perfectly. It was tasty and plentiful with 3 fillets, roasted potatoes and vegetable medley. As others have said, the portions are way more than generous and we ended up taking home half our meals. The restaurant has been here a long time and I remember it from before we were married, but we've never been. I'm glad they have done well through the pandemic and it obviously stems from their fine food and service. He was orderly and organized in getting everyone's order correctly. We all ordered pasta dishes or entrees. I was surprised by how huge the portion was. For the price you are paying for, it is definitely worth it! Even if you have a huge appetite or a big eater, you probably still can't finish a whole dish of pasta. It feels very family-style friendly. Everything feels like it is meant to be shared. Every dish was so flavorful and rich. There is a lot of cheese in the cheesy pasta. Freshly ground black pepper is provided along with freshly grated parmigiana cheese to go on top of your dish. I would highly recommend either trying chicken Marsala or scampi portofino. This place has had a great reputation. And that's saying something given the amount of Italian eateries in the area. I had some friends visiting from down South who were looking for really good Italian food. They were staying in the Westbury area, and when I recommended this place they were excited to try it! I called ahead in case they required a reservation. As of right now, their policy is that they are taking diners on a first come, first serve basis. They have both indoor and outdoor dining at the moment but we decided to dine inside. It wasn't that crowded inside and I felt comfortable dining in! The service was OUTSTANDING! Right away a basket of bread was placed on our table. Our water glasses were flipped and filled shortly after. Our waiter came by and introduced himself and asked for our drink order right away. He was very familiar and we felt comfortable with him. They had a QR code placed right on the table, but they also have paper menus available if needed. We started with fried calamari as an appetizer, and it was quite tasty. I always say, you can tell a good Italian restaurant by their fried calamari. I was slightly disappointed because they only served us the "rings". There were no tentacles :(. Those are the best! The "rings"were quite tasty and the sauce was just as good! We also ordered a bottle of red wine that we weren't able to finish but were able to take it home! The restaurant gave us a bag for the bottle and suggested we put the receipt in the bag. We had a glass each so there was a fair amount left in the bottle. We packed up the bottle and put it in the truck to enjoy later. Now back to the food... For the main event I ordered Scampi Portofino, which had jumbo shrimp, sautéed chicken, herbs, garlic, lemon, white wine sauce, cherry tomato, linguine. This was well made but it lacked something... maybe salt. My friends ordered pasta dishes and they were each quite delicious too! The portions are ginormous and you will definitely be leaving here with a doggy bag. Finally we rounded out the night with dessert which was a Napoleon. The way we decided on this was we actually saw an order leave the kitchen and asked our server about it. When he said it was "homemade" we knew we had to try it. The pastry was light and flaky. The cream was just the right amount of sweet. I'm usually a chocolate cake girl but this dessert was one of my favs by far! We decided to celebrate our 6th Anniversary at Cafe Baci. We wanted to make reservations, but we were told we didn't need any. We arrived around 7:10pm and were asked if we wanted to dine inside or outside. We waited at the bar for our table to be ready. We were whisked to our table in under 15 minutes. Although the place was packed there was ample amount of distance between tables. The crowd was mixed with some people donning a mask and some not wearing one. Our tables had silverware and a "touch-less" QR Code Menu in a plastic sandwich bag. Our server, Westin brought out a basket of pizza bread. Make sure you ask for extra that's how good it was. We started off with a Heineken Light, a Shirley Temple with extra cherries, and Calamari Fritti. Our drinks were good and the calamari was on point. We devoured much of the lightly battered crunchy appetizer. They were extremely tender. I love that they didn't include the bodies in our dish. I would've preferred if the rings were proportional to each other: some were tiny little rings/bits and some were regular sized. For dinner we ordered the Tortelloni Amore, Penne Saporite, and the Shrimp Parmigiana with penne instead of spaghetti. My hunny's tortellini was incredibly delectable. The cheese tortellini was al dente with the creamiest vodka sauce I've ever tasted. The shrimp parm was phenomenal. The side of penne needed work. The tomato sauce was bland and on the tart side. My penne saporite was savory. The grilled chicken was perfect. The melted mozzarella on top of the pasta was a nice touch. Had lunch here a couple of weekends ago with 3 buddies. They take reservations and I read up on their COVID protocols, so felt safe dining inside here. Upon walking in, I noticed it was not very packed and that tables on the perimeter of the restaurant were separated by partitions, so our group of 4 had not only distance from other tables but physical separation as well. For apps, we shared fried calamari and the burrata (3 to an order) and they brought out warm bread, too. The apps were good...but the bread can be addicting, so be warned to dial back on that, especially when you consider the size of their entrees. For my entrée, I had the Veal Parmigiana w. spaghetti...and it was HUGE. I knew from the jump that I'd have to pack at least half of it to go, which is exactly what happened. The veal was good, and the spaghetti was fine. The value though was high. For dessert I had a cappuccino and the tiramisu. The capp was solid but the tiramisu was a little too cold for my liking - almost bordering on tasting frozen. As with my entrée, I only ate half of the tiramisu and took the rest home. When I had the rest the next day, it was a little better since it tempered a little more sitting in my fridge. Others in my party had the Eggplant Parmigiana, Chicken Parmigiana, and Veal Marsala and they all seemed to enjoy their dishes as well. As with mine, they all took some home. Our server was good, and the dining area was well spaced out when seating guests. As things picked up, we had a group of 3 ladies seated next to us on one side, but the partitions came in clutch to make us feel safer and to minimize the noise from their convo. Again, the value for the quantity of food you get is pretty high and each dish we had definitely could have been shared or had family style. Parking in their lot was aplenty, too. One of my favorite Italian restaurants in NY! The taste and quantity of the food and the overall service are superb. I have been here at least 5 times over the last 4 years and have never been disappointed. My favorite items are: 1) Lobster Ravioli: highly recommended, very creamy and delicious, tons of flavor packed into every bite 2) Spaghetti Seafood: a classic that is made very well here 3) Penne Saproite: great combo with chicken, spinach and their delicious Vodka sauce I also enjoyed the Salmon Rosato, and Fusilli Formale. We arrived early actually prior to opening time and were allowed in a bit early which was nice. Anyone who has ever dined here knows their bread basket is amazing no one does it the way they do I can't even describe it tbh. The baked class here are as good as you will get anywhere and I highly recommend them. There is always a nice selection of wine to choose from and as far as the entrees go there menu is extensive. I love the Eggplant Parmigian but today I ordered the Mama mi one of their best imo it's a portion of Lasagna, Chicken Parmigian and meatballs to most your taking some home after the apps and bread but I did finish lol. REALLY POOR SERVICE . Our beverages arrived promptly and our starters arrived in about 20 minutes. After receiving the starters, we initially saw the waitress a few times but after about another 20 minutes she disappeared. It wasn't for another 20 minutes that we would see her again. She came over to our table to say that she had checked up on our meal and that it was taking longer than usual because "the soup was cold and they needed time to reheat it". What a lame excuse. After nearly an hour, we finally received our food. For appetizers, we had the burrata which was creamy and delicious and paired wonderfully with the tomatoes peppers and toasted bread.
