Hands down one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to and everyone felt the same. Pricey but worth every penny.

It pains me to have to write this review but I feel this needs to be addressed. I'll start by saying the food was excellent. We had the fried calamari, the Pork Chops Mike, the Chicken Mario (x2), the Veal Mario and the Short ribs, Meatball and sausage special. We also has 4 glasses of wine, seltzer and sodas. We were quite satisfied with our meals and I recommend the food...until... My Uncle finished before the rest of us. A waiter immediately reached over and took his plate. I had moved my plate for my Aunt and husband to taste my dish. The waiter immediately asked if I was finished and took my plate to wrap up. I know, I should have stopped this but I was in shock. Three of us were still eating as they took the bread, cheese and red pepper from the table without asking if we still wanted it. A lot of times people use the bread to sop up the rest of the sauce. This is, after all, an Italian restaurant. One at a time they just started clearing the table as we were eating, reaching over us, even getting between the arms while my son was eating. This is RUDE!!! Filomena's is supposed to be a fine dining restaurant. At this point, being seated, ordering drinks, appetizers, drinks and dinner...we were there less than an hour and fifteen minutes! Clearing plates one by one as people finish makes others feel rushed or self conscious, not exactly hospitable. When we were all finished eating, our waiter, Mike, asked if we wanted dessert. We said, yes...he gave us the menu and as we were getting ready to order there was commotion at the table next to us. Seems, the restaurant told them they had to leave the table. These people had just finished eating!!! When we saw the way the other guests were treated and how we were being rushed, we decided to go somewhere else for dessert. Filomena's is RUDE, DISCOURTEOUS and can't follow basic restaurant etiquette. They are not interested in a customer, they rush you and make you feel unwelcome and unwanted. Our bill was already over $300, we were not going to give Filomena any more of our money, only to be rushed out before we could swallow our food. As for the bill, we were charged $29.00 for the fried calamari which is listed on the menu for $17.00. It came with sauce, which they took away, again without asking. This was not complimentary, we paid for this. Filomena's has good food, but honestly Filomena's has no manners. You will NOT be made to feel like family, you truly are just a dollar sign. The ambiance was rushed and shuttle like. Next,next,next...From the moment we sat down, it felt as though the staff's primary goal was to turn the table over as quickly as possible rather than host a hospitable dining experience, clearing the plates felt aggressive, making the evening feel more like a fast-moving conveyor belt than a proper sit-down dinner. While I understand restaurants have table turns to manage, a meal should still feel like a hospitality experience, not a hurried transaction. read more

Food is excellent! I had the chicken parm and my friend had the salmon. Everything was cooked to perfection. We started with the artichoke app. Simply amazing. I would suggest that the wait staff allow you to eat the last fork full without trying to clear the table. Sort of ruined the vibe read more

Fantastic, Delicious... upscale Italian restaurant that is so old school you'll say I don't have to travel to Brooklyn or the Bronx to enjoy the true essence of Italian cuisine. Entree's are fresh, plentiful, and outstanding. Any breaded dish can be made gluten free, and they offer gluten free pasta as well. Sausage Broccoli Rabe egg rolls are spectacular. Full bar and nice wine list to order from. The star here is the service, top notch and very knowledgeable and everyone chips in to help each other out. Filomena's has always been a friendly family restaurant to me and my family for years. Always welcoming people in to enjoy a delicious wonderful meal from the freshest amazing mouthwatering dishes they prepare. I was there recently for a luncheon after my father's burial and they took care of my entire family and friends with great appetizers, wine and main courses. We did the same in 2024 for my mother's funeral and it was just as pleasant and delicious. I grew up in Franklin Square and we have been going to Filomena's for years and our parents and their friends. They never disappoint. read more

I came here for dinner the other night as my father highly recommended it. I came in with a group and was promptly seated. We ordered the Calamari Fritti which was excellent and the Tortelleni en Brodo which was also yummy. I ordered the Sunday Sauce special which I was anticipating meatballs, sausage, and short rib, but only got meatballs. While tasty, I wish the other meats came with it too. The gnocchi was perfectly cooked which I appreciated. Our server was very friendly but I do wish service was just a tad quicker. They did have a lot of big groups that day, so maybe it was just due to that. Overall, it was a very positive dining experience and would absolutely come back. read more

Came to celebrate our 7 year wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. The food was old school Italian and it was made right. The ONLY thing I didn't enjoy was my dide of broccoli raab, the garlic tasted a little burnt and gave it a weird taste. It was the only thing we didn't finish. Other than that, we absolutely loved the rest of our meal. We didn't get dessert because we had cake at home, but next time we go we'll definitely try some. The service was fantastic, our waiter was attentive and made sure we were enjoying everything and the bar tender made a fantastic martini. I have always wanted to try out this restaurant. I heard good things about this restaurant and it did not disappoint. The interior was bright and clean looking. The service was excellent. Waiters helping out each other was great to see. The food was excellent. I started with the grilled octopus and my galpal had the stuff calamari.Both appetizers were delicious. Went for dinner tonight without a reservation and they made room for us in the back room. There were many good specials to choose from. We got calamari and a house salad for starters. They take their time in between courses which is nice. We got penne vodka, chicken parm and sunday sauce for mains and all were enjoyed. Their red sauce is great and meatballs were so tender. Came here to carboload before a half marathon and wasn't disappointed! The fried calamari is nice and crispy without too much breading. The chicken parm is still juicy, cheesy and comforting. I didn't love the spaghetti marinara that came with it - a bit sour. LOVED the garlic toast that came in the free bread basket - they kindly gave us another basket when we inhaled our first in two seconds. Awesome service! They were able to squeeze us in for a 7pm dinner on a busy Saturday. I ordered the special short rib and meatballs with cavatelli- portions were HUGE and delicious! Definitely had to pack it up. The wife ordered chicken Parmesan, and might be the first chicken Parmesan I really enjoyed. The best part of the meal though, was the bread basket. Lovely restaurant, wonderful service. Pretty seating areas and bar. They also have a large party room. The breads were fresh and hot,delicious. The baked clams breading and sauce were the best but i must say I have never had such tiny clams. The shells were the usual size little neck with basically no clam. The veal was the most tender veal I had veal Brochetta & my husband loved his veal sorrentino. The broccoli rabe was perfectly prepared. We will go back. read more

I stopped by as it was lunch time and I happened to be in the area. I read that they had amazing baked clams, so naturally that's what drew me in. I enjoyed an order of 8 and also an order on Penne Ala vodka, which was delicious. The real star was their house made focaccia bread, so good I begged for more. The service was quick and efficient and I appreciated that my request to take the pasta to go at the last minute was granted. The ambience was quaint and quite likely due to early hour. So my wife stands 100 % correct !!! The food and service over here is on point !!! Eating here just last Saturday for my cousins engagement party was truly an amazing experience and brought back so many good memories of my Nana's real deal home authentic Italian cooking .... Their appetizers one after the other were delicious; Their antipasto; Their eggplant rotini; Their fried calamari; Their mini potato croquettes & we can't forget their roasted artichoke hearts even their pizza unbelievable every dish tastier then the next.... Pasta; I had their penny à la vodka and my wife had the penny Filetto de Pomodoro both dishes 100 % we had to share em ... Dinner; we both went with their shell steak & roasted potatoes & string beans sautéed with garlic and oil super delicious... I saw their other dinners and again one looked more appetizing than the other; Shrimp Scampi, Veal Marsala; Chicken franchise & their Brozzini all were delicious as per the rest of our family .. As I said my wife & her family eats here frequently and for sure I will be making this restaurant one of my twice a month eatery ... Sunday night dinner at Filomena's, hungry and ready. The restaurant greets you with the bar and two seat booths on the left, and full table service beyond. It's a warm and intimate environment. The service came quickly and we were underway. The bread, served warm and with butter was a tasty way to get start. We ordered the mussels appetizer and a baked artichoke app which was one of the specials. They were both delicious. I ordered a special, the Fillet of Sole with a side of pasta marinara. The fish was divine; warm, flaky and lightly breaded. I will definitely be back to try some of the other menu items. read more

I can hear for the first time for my cousins baby shower. Beautiful place. We had our own room which is nice. No one was walking through to get to the restaurant. Everything was set up so well and the food was delicious. For the finger foods, we had fried zucchini with breadcrumbs on it, calamari, and cheese with tomatoes. For appetizers, we were able to choose between a salad and side pasta. I had the salmon with breadcrumbs on top and the portion was big. Everything tasted really really amazing. Service was great we got everything very quickly, which I really enjoyed. The room was a decent size and was able to fit about 20 people comfortably. It probably could fit a little more though. The bathroom was tiny and only had two stalls. You only could fit two people in there and there was kind of tight. Everything looked beautiful now. read more

I finally stumbled upon a gem that took me back to my childhood in Brooklyn--an Italian restaurant that serves baked clams that are perfectly prepared. I went on a Sunday afternoon, and despite the crowds from two large parties, the service was on point and the food was great. The highlight of my meal was undoubtedly the baked clams. Instead of the usual six, they generously serve eight. Next up was a shrimp special, prepared in a Marsala wine sauce with mushrooms and topped with mozzarella. It was a perfect match for the sautéed greens I ordered on the side. And the bread...fresh and warm. I could have made a meal out of it alone! Overall, this restaurant will be my new local favorite. The BEST Italian food I have had out in a very long time. Went here for a family dinner and every single person said their dish was delicious and the best type of food they've had out. Went for dinner on a weeknight with my family. Pros: amazing service. We walked in with no reservations and although it was bumpin with no available seating in the main dining area, they were graciously able to accommodate us. Nick was our waiter and he was fantastic. Super attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, had a great personalty, and made our dining experience all the better. Food was incredible; from the starter bread to the pillowy gnocchi to the perfectly cooked mains, everything was mouth-watering. I wish I could speak on the dessert but unfortunately we were in a rush and we couldn't stay long. According to my parents, it's delicious too. I will have to taste for myself next time. Cons: I might be wrong, but it appeared to be just street parking, which, since it's on the very busy Hempstead Turnpike, can be a bit of a situation. But I feel like there might be parking in the rear; i just didn't see it (because we were in a bit of a hurry). I feel like it's been a hot second since I've written a five star review. I'm doing my best as a 7-year Yelper to try and really give out those fivers only when they're deserved. After visiting Filomena's for dinner with my family a few weeks ago, I'm happy to say I can fill up on stars for this delicious review. Well, I know my experience would warrant five stars, though my mother was not as impressed by her meal/food. Therein lies the foibles of Yelp as everyone will have their own individual opinion. Though of our party of 6, I'd say 4/6 would've gone with a five spot as well. This feeling started with a cozy yet contemporary setup for Filomena's. It wasn't very big, but the brick wall bar and relatively bright lighting gave off a nice balance between old world and new age Italian. There's apparently a big room for parties as well which would be interesting to see some time. Moving on from the pleasant aesthetics, we'll hit on service. Our waiter (we actually had two, one took the dessert order) was prompt and friendly, reading us the specials and able to assist in choosing a drink. That would probably be my only tiny gripe: a lack of a drink list. I'm willing to keep things 5-level just because the white sangria he suggested was out of this world. My fiancée and I were smitten with it. For food, here's where my mother began to feel like things weren't the best. She thought Filomena's menu wasn't that big. Perhaps I've seen Italian restaurants with a more vast selection of dishes, but honestly, I felt like Fil's did a fabulous job of having Italian dish classics while also throwing in plenty of originals/house specials. Case in point would be the dishes that my fiancée and I ordered. She got the chicken rollatini which was stuffed with mozzarella and prosciutto with a marsala wine sauce (sans mushrooms for her) while I got the chicken alla Mario which was Milanese style chicken with Marsala sauce topped with cherry peppers and mozzarella cheese. Both dishes were massive and had such a great balance of flavors. I'd totally order mine (or hers) again. I can't forget that both dishes came with a side. She got some delicious green beans that had chopped garlic mixed in while I went with angel hair in garlic and oil which was outstanding. I was a garlicky mess, but it was so worth it. Actually, I should backtrack slightly on food because we ordered baked clams as an appetizer which had a nice breading. They weren't chopped, but the clam meat wasn't chewy which is always a good sign of quality. Their bread basket was also legit as the variety of bread pieces were warm and fresh. Oh and while we're jumping all over the place, the pistachio tartufo for dessert was superb. Overall, I really felt impressed with Filomena's. Perhaps my mother doesn't feel the same, and that's fine (she'd be quite the tough Yelper if she were ever to start writing reviews), but everything seemed to go smoothly for me and most of us at the table. Good service, a cozy setting, and great food makes for a five star experience I'm happy to write up. read more

First time here for a weekday lunch. Solid restaurant, food was very good. Loved their bread, needed seconds for fare la scarpetta. Baked clams were a fav, crispy breadcrumbs and a tasty garlic butter sauce. We also had the mussels in white wine sauce which were very good as well. For entrees we had a special, the Chilean sea bass which was good and a nice portion, and the shrimp scampi (same sauce as baked clams). Shrimp were cooked well. Only disappointing thing was the linguine alle Vongole was very salty and had a bit of sand. Also I realized after we left that they charged us more for 2 of the entrees $35 instead of the $30 and $31 listed on the menu. Service was good otherwise, small restaurant although it was very quiet when we were there with only one other table but I'm sure it's packed on the weekends and evenings. As my grandmother would say, "It'll do in a rush." Upon entering, service is swift and congenial, parking is street. No salads listed but asked. Side salad only came with oil & vinegar on side, with a quick pinch of salt & pepper, not even mixed. Foods are drowned in sauce and could use a bit more care. Alfredo sauce was watery and bland for the Gnocci and Fettucine. Added TONS of Parmesan, Pepper, Lemons and salt. Gnocci was bagged, waterlogged & almost mushed, not homemade. The BASICS of ALL Pasta=salinity, salinity, salinity. Pasta, no matter the shape, should be able to stand on its own, without a sauce. Added Grilled Chicken to the Fettuccine and it was a thinned, dried out sliver piece of cutlet. Service was most hospitable by our Busser versus our assigned waitperson, who barely checked on us and only did so towards the end and check/tip time. We blessed our Busser because THEY "took good care" of us. We weren't even offered drinks, had to ask. Now, their drinks will get you RIGHT and for a reasonable price. Peach Old Fashion was GOOD & STRONG! Lychee Martini with Chambord was a twist. Overall, typical Long Island restaurant, which is why we mainly dine in The City. read more

This place was amazing. I flew in from out of town to take my son to a college visit and found some reviews for this place online. I decided to give it a try. The moment I walked in, I felt like it was a real Italian family type restaurant. The owner was amazing and awesome to talk to, and the food was some of the best Italian food I've ever had. You can tell they take pride in what they make and how they treat people.
