If you like chicken salad you'll love this place. Actually, if you like any non-salad salad varietals such as egg or tuna, you'll love this place. Apparently chopped up mayonnaised "salads" are what this place does best. I opted for the curry chicken salad, and it was delightful. I had it served as a sandwich, which was a seriously impressive portion on perfectly fluffy fresh white bread. The lettuce was crispy and the tomatoes were some of the best I've had during the winter tomato doldrums. If you're dining in, you'll likely have to wait for a table and this place is pretty crammed. Service is quick and efficient, but I wouldn't go as far as to say friendly. You can also get your mayonnaised salad served atop a real salad, with fresh greens and a vinaigrette. It's a lot of salad, and then either dish comes with a little puff pastry type thing for a little sweet treat. And yes, writing this review made me view the word "salad" in a really weird way. I had eaten at Cafe on Pharr's little (actually bigger) sister Cafe Pharr Out several times, but now that I work in the Buckhead area, it was time to check out the original. Though the strip mall in which it resides is a bit run down, the space itself is clean, if nondescript. I chose to order 'to-go' so that I could sit outside and enjoy the sunny afternoon. I had a ham and american on wheat. The bread was fresh and light and there was a good amount of honey ham. The red grapes were a nice accompaniment, along with my bag of Stacy's Pita chips. The eating experience was almost identical to my memories of Cafe Pharr Out, right down to the anticipation of finishing my sandy so I could eat the cream cheese filled pastry that comes with your meal. Well, since this has become one of my DUCHIES, I suppose I ought to update my review. Apparently I've got a fever, and the only prescription is Walnut Chicken Salad. And those little friggin yogurt roll thingies. Those lil guys are the bomb. And really, $9 is kind of a lot, but it's not *that* much more than other places - after all it's Buckhead. And the tuna salad and the egg and potato salads are good, so I have reason to suspect of pattern of general GOODNESS where the food is concerned. And it all feels healthy, which is a requirement for me in a lunch. And the sandwiches are only $7 and still a good size. And you can even get your sammie on a croissant! Yum! So, I'm obviously a fan, so I should quit pretending that I don't occassionally think it's worth spending $9 on chicken salad, because it obviously is. It's always really clean inside, the staff is superfriendly, and their takeout operation is amazingly fast and efficient. Cafe at Pharr is best known for its chicken salad selections. Three different kinds -- cranberries with walnuts, traditional celery, or curry chicken salad -- are served via a sandwich or a salad. My vote is for the salad that comes with savory ginger vinaigrette on the side, plus fresh grapes, carrots, simple greens and tomatoes. Freshly-baked bread and yogurt rolls also accompany the dish. Mmmm ... bread. The dining area is small, so be prepared for a wait if dining in. They offer take-out and catering, as well. Although the Cafe at Pharr's original location is in Buckhead off of Pharr Road, they have expanded to two other locations and are opening up a fourth location in the next couple month in Brookhaven. I went a bit prior to noon to avoid the lunch rush as the Cafe at Pharr only has a bout 16 tables inside, although most choose to get their lunch orders to go. And by the time I was leaving, almost every table was occupied. And parking is even tighter. I guess there are about 7 or 8 stores in the strip mall and not enough parking spots, so if you visit during the lunch rush, you may have to park on a side street and walk over, but there seemed to still be plenty of street parking available. I met owner, Johnny (see pic above), a short while after walking inside. This guy is bursting with energy and so proud of his establishment. Opening their doors in 1993, I think they were ahead of the curve a bit. You see, Cafe at Pharr serves pretty healthy and fresh food, not exactly in vogue back in the early 90s. They even make their bread fresh EVERY day! Johnny made me up a sampler of their chicken salads (all white meat) which are the most popular entrees. I tried the traditional, curried and walnut. My favorite was the curried (what can I say, it's the Indian in me) but the others are quite tasty too. And while they are very flavorful, they are not chock full of mayonnaise. You can get them all in the form of a salad or sandwich. I tried both and don't have a preference for one of the other. I do love the croissants at Cafe at Pharr but the salads are so fresh and that asian dressing is quite addictive. The prices are reasonable considering that everything is made of scratch and fits the clientele - mostly local office workers and Buckhead Betty's that do lunch. Sandwiches are around $7 and salads are around $9. If it is meat you crave, don't fret. The Cafe at Pharr also offers smoked turkey, ham and roast beef sandwiches. But the chicken salads are their signature item. I also love that Cafe at Pharr also gives you their signature yogurt rolls as a small dessert after your lunch. "Crack Salad" is what we call it, because it's addictive as hell. OK, I know it probably looks strange that people keep going on and on about the chicken salad. LOVE THIS PLACE - it is a staple in my life. My boyfriend and I come to lunch here probably once a week. It is delicious, quick, cheap and great service. Our water glass has never been empty, the food is out in 5 minutes, and always delicious. He gets the hot chicken curry plate, I get either the chicken salad sandwich or chicken salad salad. A quick, convenient place to pop in and get a relatively healthy lunch. The seating is pretty limited and a little cramped, so I would recommend take out. The food has always been good and fresh, and I think the grapes and yogurt rolls are a unique dessert combination that gives you just a hint of pleasant sweetness after the meal. The dishes are pretty simple, but good. As others have mentioned, their famous dishes are the salads - the mayonnaise kind, not the leafy green kind. The walnut chicken salad is good but I like the shrimp salad because it's very light, just salt, pepper and a touch of mayonnaise dressing. You can either have your food served as a sandwich or a salad, neither of which is particularly exciting. Their famous ginger dressing is very good but the salads themselves are kinda boring. Just some greens and shredded carrots, really. In a similar vein, the sandwiches are just lettuce and tomato plus your non-leafy salad choice. If you do order a sandwich, their chicken and shrimp salads taste delicious on a croissant, as long as you're willing to brave the extra calories. read more

At some point while inhaling my curry chicken salad plate at lunch today, I looked around the cramped dining room and noticed that every single customer in there was 1) a woman and 2)blonde (myself included). Customer observations aside, this was a tasty little lunch. Their chicken salads are of the shredded variety, and we were pleased with both the walnut and the curry options. The salad plate was generous and very fresh, and that mustard vinaigrette is delicious. We were surprised that the multigrain bread was still pretty white in color and more of a honeywheat flavor. If you're coming to make a take-out order, order at the counter, otherwise shimmy your way through the crowded space to grab a table. Service was excellent and prompt. If I worked in the area, I would make this a go-to lunch spot. Since I don't, I'll keep this place in mind when I need some sustenance while running errands nearby. read more

My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch because we were in the area. The menu looked good and I had the spinach salad and he got the famous walnut chicken salad sandwich. The salad was good, but the menu said it had goat cheese and mine had none. The chicken salad was less than satisfying. It did not have any chunks of chicken and was just very smooth and we could have gotten better at many other places. The little sweet rolls are weird. It is like a cold half crescent roll stuffed with some whipped cream. I just don't get it. We might go back if in the area, but overall just meh. read more

Cafe at Pharr is my go to lunch option when I am out shopping or running errands on the weekend in Buckhead. It's the perfect light lunch(especially when it's hot outside). I usually order the salad plate with the walnut chicken salad. It's more of a shredded chicken salad than a chunky one, and it goes perfect on top of some lettuce. I love the sliced tomatoes and carrots matched with their delicious ginger dressing. This is definitely a mixing type of plate because all of the ingredients mesh so well together. It even includes 2 little slices of sourdough bread. And, last but very not leastm each meal comes with some yogurt rolls, I'm not sure exactly what they are, but they are a delicious way to end the meal. The sourdough bread sandwich is also a delicious option, if you want a something a little more than a salad, however I recommend the salad for the ginger dressing. The restaurant is set up for take-away or dine in(with a server). The atmosphere is like a typical cafe, nothing too special. If you're out and about and need a quick bite to eat, Cafe at Pharr is a phantastic option! read more

I ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad from the To-Go menu today and was very disappointed. I specified that I wanted my tuna on the rarer side...however, it was probably the most cooked Ahi Tuna I've had yet. The tuna is the center piece of the salad and yet it was overcooked and dry. And $15 to boot! I will potentially try out the restaurant again to see how it is in a sit down setting, but as to this experience.. it was very negative. I love this place. I only go with my mom but we both get the chicken salad plate. They serve it on lettuce with a yummy ginger vinaigrette. It's light and slightly sweet with a tangy kick. The Walnut Chicken salad is my go to each and every time and the Ginger dressing is a MUST! Now that I work down the street, I manage to get to this place every Friday! Its a decent lunch spot butI certainly wouldnt go crazy about the chicken salad. They have limited menu options but if you know you definitely want a chicken salad sandwich or you are on a diet, go here. You dont get a whole lot for $9...a scoop of chicken salad some lettuce with shredded carrots, and some grapes. The yogurt pastry you get is a nice little bonus. Very healthy meal, but after spending $25 or so on lunch we were still hungry 2 hours later. They were very friendly and you cant beat how fast the service was. read more

They have a scrumptious selection of well-priced soups, salads, and two rice dishes (my fave!) that are healthy and quite filling. Nice service and accommodating to some of our requests in changing some toppings in the menu. Ive just had the crab cake eggs Benedict, which was very good compared to many other brunch places in Atlanta. Many of the fancier eggs benedicts ive had elsewhere more of less come apart and I feel like im eating a random assortment of bread, eggs, and topping. The one here had a great proportion of all the components and came really well together. One thing I would complain is about the cleanliness of this establishment. We were eating outside, but a few tables/chairs had food/trash around them... I get that its on the sidewalk... but these indirect considerations may speak more about a restaurant's conditions than anything else. Nonetheless, I would still recommend the place. The best curried chicken salad! I just discovered this gem through a recommendation and it will be my new go-to source for lunch. They make their chicken salads with just a touch of mayo, only enough to hold the chicken together. That's the way I like it (I'm not of fan of tons of mayo). I recently started working close to this cafe so while looking for a lunch spot this one had among the highest ratings. When I went there the cafe had an outdoor patio and was full with other people on lunch dates and people grabbing quick work lunches.. honestly, I expected it to be a bit better, I got the curry chicken salad for $9 something and to my surprise it was beyond basic. Don't get me wrong the curried chicken itself was really good, but the salad was lettuce and carrots... to the side I had a scoop of the chicken, a few grapes, a piece of bread, and this whipped cream dessert wrapped in some kind of dough. I was really disappointed at the salad, I thought the chicken would be tossed in mixed with the dressing and all.. In addition to the salad you also get two slices of baguette, grapes, and yogurt rolls. This was truly one of the best salad options I have eaten.
