I went with my friend to try it cause it was hyped up on insta. Got the ube milk tea and house milk tea which were okay. Seating is pretty limited inside the store and the seating they do provide is facing direct sunlight so it can get hot. Service was nice though. We also tried the ube cupcake with leche flan which was okay. It tastes as sweet as it sounds but the cupcake was a little dry. The flan on top was good though.
Another Cafe 86 location in the South Bay - Evergreen Area. They have street parking and close enough to the Walmart parkng lot. The store is located on the corner and limited seating but with the same whimsical decorated that all the stores share. President's Day they were offering $2 drinks on their milk teas and iced tea drinks. Strawberry Calamansi Cooler - Light & refreshing though a bit watered down. Thai Tea - decent, creamy. I'd order this again. Ube Crinkle Cookies - good ube flavor and in a Crinkle Cookie too! Yum. Support your local business.
Cafe 86 is a spot we see a lot of potential in, the setting is nice with indoor and outdoor seating and it's a good looking spot. We've been coming to this establishment for years, since before it was called Cafe 86. There have been ups and downs but it has always been a quaint, well-loved dessert place. The issue lies in the service there. We went for a quick treat and ordered with about 4 people in front of us. We got ube milk tea and a churrochi, which we were told would take about 10-15 minutes to make... It took 35 minutes to get out... On top of that an entire family came in with strollers and hogged up every seat on the inside and packed the place in to where we could barely move around. Obviously we understand you don't want to turn customers away, but they absolutely should have told those with strollers or at least some of the people to wait outside. The entire ordering experience was a huge nightmare and letdown. On the flip side of all that, the food was pretty good. The milk tea was delicious, very sweet and refreshing, we could've had another one easily. The churrochi was also unique with strong cinnamon churro flavor but that stretchy mochi dough too. We actually really liked our food, unfortunately it just came after a long and crowded wait.
This review is purely based on the drink I ordered. I ordered the Sea Salt Coffee and was kind of disappointed by the drink. I regret ordering it and should've ordered something that Cafe 86 is known for, like UBE. My drink came in one size, large, and had a sea salt foam on the top. It was mixed in with the drink before I picked it up, and some foam floated back to the top. The coffee didn't taste strong; the sea salt foam was very light. I was still feeling tired after finishing my drink. There is no dairy sub for this as the foam is made with heavy cream. The service was quick and nice. This is more of a grab-and-go location, as the inside was small. It had a couple of chairs that customers can sit on while waiting, but if there's a line, you'd be sitting right next to the line. There were some seats outside if you wanted to yap with friends while drinking coffee. There's a bunch of restaurants and cafe around this location so it's nice as an option if you're in the area. Parking can be rough though, I got lucky and found one in front of the cafe but my friends had to park in a different lot.
We stopped by Cafe 86 since we were in the area and noticed it looked new. The menu caught our attention with its variety of Asian-inspired flavors like ube, matcha, and pandan. I ordered the Matcha Pandan Latte from the espresso bar section. It was a bit misleading...there was no coffee in it, just matcha and pandan, but I still really enjoyed it. The pandan flavor was strong and fragrant, and the matcha complemented it without being overpowering. My friend had the Jasmine Calamansi drink, which was bright and citrusy with a nice tea base. It was super refreshing: perfect for a hot summer day. We also tried the Ube Leche Flan Cupcake, though we didn't eat it until the next day. Surprisingly, it held up well! The cupcake was moist (not soggy), and the flan layer on top was dense, creamy, and slightly sweet. Really satisfying overall. I'd definitely return if I'm in the area again.
Cafe 86 is inside a plaza. Lots of nearby shops and restaurants! Tons of walking room outside and a water statue in the middle. Great place to walk around in. Natural lightning and open window light. I enjoyed walking around and seeing the shops while drinking my milk tea. I ordered the mermaid. Service is good. Ladies can break down the ingredients and what comes next in with each drink.
I tried Cafe 86 for the first time in Mountain View over the summer and was enamored. I'm so glad they opened a branch in San Jose! I've had their ube crack and it's so deliciously addicting - it's moist and there's smoothness in every bite. The calamansi was refreshing for a hot summer afternoon, but quite sweet. Recently, I've been a fan of their coffee. I've had the hot Nutella and cookie butter coffee, but my favorite is definitely the Nutella coffee. Ultimately, it'll come down to your preference, but I absolutely love chocolate and hazelnuts, so it's been my go-to. If you like Biscoff cookies or the Biscoff spread, you'll love the cookie butter coffee. Their menu is huge and there's plenty of things to please the pickiest of patrons. The shop itself is decently sized, and there's a couple of tables outside as well. Cafe 86 is a great place to visit to cure your sweet tooth!

Their Upside Down Halo Halo was comforting, creative, and full of textures I grew up loving--ube, flan, boba, even frosted flakes. The Ube Monster shake? Thick, sweet, and dangerously good. And that Ube Pop Tart? Buttery, warm, and filled with ube halaya and macapuno--it tasted like home. Everything felt thoughtfully made, with flavors that bring joy and comfort. If you love Filipino-inspired desserts or just want something unique and full of heart, this place is a must. I'll definitely be back.
This was my second time going because the first time customer service and the drinks were good. The customer service the second time was just not there. No greeting and it just seemed like the girls were annoyed. This second time I ordered a tiger tea and they gave me a Thai tea. I did not say anything because I was like I can just try their Thai tea. Their thai tea tasted like just milk. I also ordered their ube tres leches and for me it was a disappointment. I will probably go back, but not go out of my way to go to this place.
First time coming to their newest location in the bay. I've tried their og location in union city. I always get their halo halo upside down. Best halo halo. The halo halo comes with a bunch of toppings and ube ice cream with Frosted Flakes. The Frosted Flakes is really unique. Service is great 5/5 Ambiance inside was really aesthetic. Plenty of seats inside and outdoor seating also. Must try!!
I'm so excited that Cafe 86 finally opened in San Jose! I got the upside down halo halo because I like more ube in the dessert and I got a flan ube pancake. The flan was good! I liked that the halo halo was a party of different textures from the crunchy cornflakes to the chewy colorful jellos it had. I only wish the desserts weren't so sweet, but I share my dessert so I don't feel as guilty eating it.:P This is more like a once in awhile sweet treat because it is really sweet. Ambiance: A cute small shop with several seating areas. There's a few parking spots in the Evergreen Village Square and more parking in front of Walmart. Service: the wait time is around 20 minutes and the workers are very friendly
Came here for dessert before dinner and upon arriving it's a nice corner spot. Ended up getting the halo halo and ube milk tea. The halo halo was not too sweet which I liked. Could use more Frosted Flakes for more texture. The flan was too eggy and dense for my liking. The ube milk tea I did not enjoy. Could use more ube flavor. Service is quick. Just a bit hard to see the menu since it's so bright outside.
Tried the ube ice cream and the Ube Monster. The ice cream was honestly a steal -- $3.25 for two scoops -- and hella good. Super creamy with Oreo bits mixed in, which added a nice crunch and made it even more addicting. The Ube Monster was solid too, and I liked that it wasn't overly sweet. Can ask for less powder which makes it more balanced and easier to drink instead of feeling like straight dessert overload. Still got that cookies-and-cream vibe with the Oreo pieces though, which was yum. Pricey but a good hit on a hot day. read more

Cafe 86 is a cute little shop in evergreen village square. We wandered in from a festival happening and decided to get some boba. I ordered a Thai tea and a chocolate cupcake for my daughter. My husband likes the collector toys on the wall behind the register. The place is super small with limited seating, which is my only real complaint, but we were greeted warmly and helped right away. Drinks are refreshing and delicious. Love that they offer Filipino desserts but they can be improved upon. The ube tres leches has nice texture but needs to be slightly sweeter and the corn cake has no sweetness at all and is slightly bland. For the halo halo like drink they are missing standard jackfruit and Macapuno ingredients. But overall it's nice. read more

WOW! I am very impressed with their upside down halo-halo (5/5). You get the best parts of the halo-halo: jellies, leche flan, ube milk, ice cream, and corn flakes. The only thing missing here is pinipig but the corn flakes make up for it a little. Looks like you can sub the vanilla ice cream for ube and I would definitely do that next time! read more
The upside down halo halo is 10/10! But def would opt for the mini version as it's really filling even for two people! The dessert was yummy! Who knew corn flakes with vanilla ice cream and ube shaved iced was such a nice combo- the texture of crunch with ice cream is soo good! Also the jellies on the bottom were good too! Really love their ube milk tea! Definitely feels like a dessert shop that also sells boba. Items I absolutely love: Ube Milk Tea 5/5 - I would definitely get this as less sweet as the full sweetness makes it a little more like candy. They have large cups for their bubble which works out with the price. Love the Ube flavor. Ube Crinkle 5/5 - Great Ube flavor, this is probably my favorite dessert item here so far. I tried some of their other items: - Halo Halo - 4/5 Instead of pinipig they use something similar to corn flakes. The halo halo is good on a hot day but wasn't really anything amazing. - Milo Milk Tea - 3/5 It takes pretty much just like Milo, there's not really a hint here of a tea flavor. - Milk Tea - 3/5 Pretty standard milk tea, doesn't have a strong tea flavor so it's not really to my preferences here. WHY WE WENT HERE: - dessert THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - located in "Lunardi's" (iykyk) aka Evergreen Village Sq in the corner of Evergreen Village Sq and Michelangelo Dr (the former ice cream shop) THE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE): - very limited seating - very much a grab and go type of place - cute interior; a mix between bakery and boba joint THE MENU: - milkshakes - milk teas - halo halo - iced teas - slush - churrochi - add-ons - baked goods - blended latte - espresso bar - sandwiches WHAT WE ORDERED: - halo halo - churrochi with ube ice cream THE TASTE: - my friend was disappointed that the halo halo didn't live up to his expectations; he said "I've had better than this" which I took it to he prefers the traditional way the elders make it for us - churrochi was a pleasant surprise; basically churro flavored mochi pancakes with a scoop of ube ice cream CUSTOMER SERVICE: - warm and welcoming - fast service read more

*Visited on Weds. Sept 18th 2024 I've visited some of their SoCal locations, and was so excited to hear that they opened a location in San Jose! Their location is cozy and honestly the perfect hangout spot - grab a snack and drink and either hang out in their shop or the park across the store. The staff here were incredibly kind and welcoming throughout our visit, and very informative. OKAY THE FOOD: * Strawberry Calamansi + Boba; SO GOOD and SUPER refreshing! I definitely want to give more drinks a try, but this drink is easily a top ten drink! * Ube Leche Flan Cupcake; 10/10 you gotta try it at least once * Halo Halo Bread Pudding w/ Vanilla ice cream; SO YUMMY! I recommend getting it with Ube ice cream and getting the bread pudding heated!! I can't wait to come back and try their other snacks and sandwiches :-) read more

Welcome to the neighborhood, Cafe 86! I had the pleasure of getting dessert here recently. Ordering was quick and efficient at the register. The case of goodies was wet with condensation so it was hard to see what was inside, but after scanning the menu we decided we wanted one pastry and one drink. We ordered the upside down halo halo (halo halo with ube base and vanilla ice cream) and an ube leche flan cupcake. After a short wait, our name was called and the friendly and energetic young man handed us our goodies. The halo halo was beautiful, with jellies and boba at the bottom, adorned generously with corn flakes, vanilla ice cream, crowned with flan! I really enjoyed the textures, although I thought the base melted too fast. I'm used to halo halo with a bit more iciness, although I know it's not everyone's preference. The ube leche flan cupcake was decadent and rich without being too sweet, although I found the cupcake a bit on the dense side. I'm not a fan of frosting on cupcakes, but flan is a different story! Next time I'd like to try their ube crack cheesecake and a calamansi drink. The interior is on the smaller side, with the front door facing a wall upon entry so that the flow is a bit cramped. However the bar top type seats indoors and three small tables outdoors provides some variety to enjoy at the cafe. During our visit we saw it was already a popular spot with treats for the whole family, friends catching up, and a mid week pick-me-up-up for one. The menu has a lot of options without being too overwhelming, with something for everyone. We're looking forward to our next visit to Cafe 86 to explore more unique and tasty Filipino flavors and support a small local business! read more
I have never been to a grand opening. Too crazy. Too annoying. But the girls were excited. They have walked by this place almost EVERY DAMN DAY to see the progress. Yoogool (before Cafe 86 took over) was a fun and affordable place to hang out! Hopefully, this new place is as cool as the old place. So I gave in and waited two freaking hours. While I was hangry in line, I had some thoughts about their kinks that they can reflect on. First, the line was extremely long since they only had one cash register. Hopefully, it won't be this ridiculous in the future. If it is, then consider getting two other registers. That should keep people from getting pissed off for waiting so long. Secondly, all staff should know whether to call by names or numbers. The lady at the register said that names would be called. But then we heard a guy calling out a number. Yikes! I didn't keep a receipt! Luckily a staff yelled out to call by names. Whew. The staff should decide which one and stick to it. As the old saying goes, consistency is the key. Lastly, they only accepted cards. Hopefully, it was just for tonight for a faster service. Yoogool was very popular with much younger crowds and most of them didn't have cards. Like, my daughter's friend for instance. She didn't have one and my daughter felt bad for her so she bought her a drink with her debit card. So hopefully, they take cash in the future. We only tried The Mermaid, Halo Halo, and Ube Milkshake, but we were impressed and would like to try the other items on their menu. This place has way better food and drinks than Yoogol! No wonder Cafe 85 has sixteen locations and two more coming soon. The food and drinks are winners! The service overall was friendly. Thank you to the guy handing out candy in line, apologizing for the wait. I also enjoyed the music from the DJ. The lady at the register was smiling despite the circus, and a few people expressed their appreciation for helping their business. The wait for the food was quick once we ordered, despite the long ass wait in line. You can put that in your pipe and smoke it. Or ignorance is bliss. Take it or leave it. I hope Cafe 86 will be successful at this location and stay there for a while. To YELP, I have one comment about the guy who earned the FTR. He didn't even go inside or try anything on the menu. What the heck??? He didn't even post pics! He could've at least taken a picture of the building! read more

First time trying out this spot. The place was very cute. It isn't super big inside, but there were plenty of inside and outside seatings. The cashier was very attentive & nice. I would definitely come back and try other drinks. The drinks: I think that the upside down halo halo and ube monster milkshake is a good first timer choice. I wanted to try the ube butter bars, because it looked so good but I forgot to order it. I will definitely be coming back to try it next time. read more

I was so excited to hear that Cafe 86 was opening up a new location in the Evergreen Village Square! The Evergreen community needs more cafe spots like this! They opened at 12pm and I got there at 12:15pm and was shocked that there was already a line out the door. I was there for about 45 min - 1 hour to wait in line to place my order, order, and then wait for my order to finish. I ordered four combo packs: ube leche flan cupcakes ($18.50), ube crack cheesecake ($18.50), and ube crinkle cookies ($15.25). Each of the combo packs came with a hibiscus tea and they let me sub two of my teas for the calamansi and jasmine tea. All of their baked goods are DELICIOUS. I'm still dreaming about them! I wanted to give 5 stars but I couldn't justify the wait time and ordering process. I tried ordering ahead online but it wasn't working, which is a shame because it would have been a huge time saver. Or maybe let people order on a kiosk and/or receive a text when their order is ready. I would have preferred to kill time at the Walmart instead of standing around for 45 mins waiting for my order. read more
They have a few of these around, but it's my first time trying this place. I had the Upside Down Halo Halo and an Ube Cupcake. The Upside Down Halo Halo was really good. It wasn't your traditional Filipino halo-halo, but I liked it nonetheless. It was extremely sweet and the jelly and beans at the bottom were very tasty. I enjoyed the flan topping as well as the crispy cereal on top. 8 of 10 in my book. The Ube Cupcake was fantastic. The cupcake itself was soft and sweet and the flan added an excellent touch for creaminess; and this is eating it the following day!! If I was 30 years younger, I'd probably come here more often. lol. That said, I'll be back to try a few other items and the occasional Ube cupcake on cheat days. read more
I had to try this place as it's so close to me and it's important to support small businesses in the neighborhood. This is a Filipino inspired dessert and bakery shop that specializes in ube treats (purple yam). They have a wide range of drinks (milk teas, lattes, milkshakes, iced teas, halo halo). Lots of ube flavored desserts-- cheesecake, flan ube cupcake, crinkle ube cookies. I tried to go for the grand opening party but there were just too many people so I came back here with my Mom the next day. It opened at 12pm and there was a line but it moved quickly. I appreciate the 2 sizes for the milkshakes (16 oz for the mini and 24 oz for the regular). I had the mini ube monster milkshake and it was such a nice summer treat. It was dusted with some Oreo-like cookie crumbles on top. We also ordered 2 flan ube cupcakes and they are moist and very good. Everything we tried was good and I want to come back and bring my brother's girlfriend here as I know she would like ube! Location: in Evergreen Village Square next to Walmart Ambiance and Decor: Modest corner café with faux brick interior at the entrance. Tight sitting inside but outdoor sitting available. Service: Service with a smile and courteous. This location is still fairly new with room for improvement in terms of efficiency and delivery of food. Food: Filipino influence with ube being main ingredient with a majority of the bake goods. Drinks: they offer a variety take on calamansi drink, which is basically Filipino lemonade. Milk tea is mid and coffee can use more work. They also offer halo-halo at a premium price for those who don't know how to make halo-halo at home. I've visited this spot twice. First time I ordered their ube crinkle cookie. It was okay. It tasted a day old and didn't have a crisp outer crunch that should felt on must crinkle cookies. Was super excited to try their cupcakes. Ordered ube flan cupcakes (~$5 each) and they were just OK. The ube flavor in the cupcake was pretty faint and the flan was lacking something.. maybe more sweetness? Not sure. It just didn't hit the spot. Not giving up just yet... This quaint, little shop may not have the biggest space but they make things full of flavor. From the teas and coffees to their baked goods, Cafe 86 has it all. We came on a weekday and there was still a line. There were a few orders ahead of us but the wait for our drinks was minimal and we were in and out in a matter of minutes. Can't wait to comeback and treat ourselves. read more
Whenever I visited San Diego, I would always visit Cafe 86, so I'm really glad that we finally have one here in the area. This also means I don't have to make the trek to Union City for ube truffles! My favorite drink is the iced Jasmine calamansi. It's super refreshing on a hot summer day. I also like the Ube butter bar and ube truffles. The halo halo is good, but note that it can be heavy and a lot, so share with someone. The store is a small and cozy. There's limited seats inside, but plenty of seats outside in the plaza. Service was good and I know they're still working through things since they just opened. I will definitely go back here. I'm really rooting for Cafe 86 to do well in the area!!! read more

Got the Grapefruit Jasmine Iced Tea and it was so refreshing, would try again. I think the price for teas was pretty decent. There were so many pastries to try but opted for the Ube Flan Cupcake and Ube Cheesecake. The cheesecake had the right amount of creaminess and the cupcake was rich in flavor and texture. Definitely taste the ube. I would want to try the Ube Butter Bar or the Ube Pop Tart next time. I enjoyed the ambiance and would come back to study and enjoy a drink. There's wifi too, but no outlets from what I see. Staff were friendly and accommodating. read more
