A matcha latte should NOT be this color. The color, even though I ordered the matcha with oat milk, was jarring. Whatever concentrate the barista used, she squirted into the cup and did a quick swirl in the cup and served it. I understand that whisking and sifting matcha cannot be done for quick service options, but at the very least I would ask the barista to put the matcha powder and milk in a shaker before serving. We were excited to try the cafe during our visit. Although the service was fine, the food was overpriced and not very good. One of our group had the pimento cheese and tomato and said it was fair but not very tasty. I had the chicken salad on a croissant. The croissant was bland. I ended up not eating most of it. Not sure why all the hate for Cafe 29. This place is perfect for taking break from the heat of the day and getting a quick snack and a cool beverage. Is it overpriced? Yeah of course, it's a cafe inside of tourist attraction, but the food I had was still pretty good. We all order salads and I opted for the Mediterranean salad with grilled chicken. The salad itself was small, but it had great flavor and was refreshing in the heat. We also ordered fries for the table and they were sooo good! They serve alcohol here. We were just there for lunch, the service was awesome. I came with a large group, and everyone found a nice lunch. My chicken salad was fresh, fast and delicious. I also enjoyed a very cold beer, I needed help choosing, and I got just what I wanted. The servers were so helpful and sweet But the real stand outs were the homemade desserts! So delicious! We came in here to cool down and get some snacks for the kids. I noticed that everything is sustainable and they offered healthy alternatives. We didn't want to have lunch here so we ended up ordering some sweet potato tots, some fruit tea and a smoothie. I was happy to see that they had a coconut milk alternative but when we got it, jt was terrible and so not worth the upcharge, which I think was like $2. I wanted my boyfriend to send it back but he was thirsty. It was more like strawberry coconut milk than a smoothie. I will say though that the fruit tea, which is a pretty purple color was really good. The tots were undone and appeared to be just flash fried. The place was next to Cheekwood mansion. I was happy finding it because I was hungry. The place was empty but cozy. The interior was casual and simple. I believe in warmer seasons the place could be packed. The cafe definitely can improve on the menu bc it had poor choices- just couple salads and snacks. We ordered two salads and crackers for the child. The salads were great! I ordered winter salad with the dressing on the side- it was yummy! Simple but good. I liked the posters on the wall that said the history of Cheek family and Maxwell coffee. If you visit Cheekwood gardens and mansion, stop to get some food and drinks! Café 29 is the upscale title of Cheekwood's coffee shop/café nestled into the old stables at the north end of the mansion. It's a nice little niche serving good coffee and espresso drinks, soft drinks, adult beverages, and various pastries, sandwiches, and snacks. It's also the perfect place to duck in and take a load off after traversing the ups and downs of the estate. The atmosphere suits the ambience of the estate's grand stables/garage - casual with a gaze slightly elevated toward serving general needs of casual folk. Visitors may also be interested in some of the touristy offerings for picnicking on the grounds. My coffee and pastry were excellent. Your mileage may vary, but I'll certainly be back on a future visit. read more

Just by the looks from the outside, one would have thought Cafe 29 had the potential of offering high quality food and decent service. As it turns out, neighbors were true. The service was okay (they talked to you and took your order and gave you a number, etc. ) but the food was just terrible. The chill ($6) and sandwich were super salty and the hot chocolate was overly sweet without the taste or body of chocolate. So the "brunch buffet" they serve consisted of paying $20 for only 4 different food options, served on paper plates with plastic silverware. They would not allow us to get a new paper plate after the first one got dirty, saying "we aren't suppose to give out extra plates." The bottomless mimosas are an additional $20. This does not include the $25 admission/parking fee just to enter the Cheekwood Estate. So all in all, I paid $65 for a mediocre backyard barbecue.
