spicy shrimp bisque
Gary F.

Cute place... being from out of town, I had some difficulty finding a reasonable parking place. I assume it's very possible that I just didn't know where to go, though. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable... fairly broad menu with something for everyone. We were just passing through town and looking for a solid lunch. I had what they called the stuffed avocado... which was really good, but I wouldn't really consider it a stuffed avocado - more of a salad with sliced avocado. My friend had clam strips - also really good (I sampled a few purely for review purposes). I also had some soup... spicy shrimp bisque. It was good! I think I'm going to try the clam chowder next time I get a chance... I originally planned to get clam chowder, but the bisque sounded interesting so I went with that instead. One downer... and I'm not sure if it was a "one off" type thing or what... but a portion of the crust on the bread I got with my soup was 'crunchy'. I'm not sure why? It didn't seem to be stale, but something was off... not sure if it sat in a warmer too long or what, but it didn't seem right. Kudos overall... good experience.

DOOOOOO NOOOT EAT HERE !!!!!!! It was the worst food I have ever eaten !! I felt bad about myself after consuming the food. Everything took forever and the appetizers and meal came at the same time. I had the scallops, ZERO flavor. Tasted like nothing . I sent it back after consuming 2 maybe. Never in my life have I done that. We payed over 130 dollars for a shit meal. Waitress just offered to get me something else. Save yourself it's not worth your mental health

This was our last meal on our visit and we were sad that it ended with such a let down in regards to food. I got the tomato basil soup which was tasty, but my sandwich tasted like old deli meat. The Au jus had no flavor and lacked salt. I thought I just did wrong because I didn't order seafood, but my mom males didn't care for their halibut cakes and fish and chips. The restaurant is gorgeous, I love the homage to the building. The staff were friendly and attentive, but the food just wasn't it for us unfortunately.

Snapper and clam chowder, delicious!

The food is fresh, great quality & flavors. Attentive service without being over wheming. Great views of the waterfront. Ambiance is calm, relaxing and enjoyable.

This is a great little spot downtown by the waterfront. It's a small but classic classy. Great spot for fresh seafood, and a classic bar with a good selection of bourbons. It's a bit pricey, but our waitress took great care of us. I would come back.

Fish and chips

I was shocked and amazed on all accounts at this restaurant. The best fish and chips I've ever had. I don't know how they did it, but the fish was absolutely perfectly breaded and crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. It wasn't over season so you could experience the fresh fish and crispy breading. If you wanted a little extra something, dip it into their tartar sauce or cocktail sauce. Dinner salad and cup of clam chowder also excellent. Service could not have been better. It's so unusual to find a restaurant in such a perfect location with such amazing food. Usually the corner waterfront best property in town restaurant has the least exciting food. Not the case at all here. If you want a fantastic seafood dinner, Cafe Waterfront is a great choice.

Cool historical building, comfortable & low-key. Locals at the bar. Food was good but not so great that I would go back.

Great turkey dinner special! Nice cozy restaurant. And being located in Old Town, the neighborhood felt safe.

What a great stop! We were driving north and my son asked me to look for cioppino, so of course I…read moreturned to Yelp. Gill's leapt out at me. Even though they didn't have cioppino, it was the perfect choice. Sitting out on the patio with the breeze and the sun and the bay with pelicans and gulls flying and flowers all around was great in itself. The food and warm service people made it incredible. We had the best clam chowder I have ever had - thick, creamy, sweet with clams, and amazingly not heavy at all, just perfect. The hot crab sandwich was a special, so that made up our minds on one thing; and it was excellent. The onion rings were highly recommended by the waitress and the guy at the next table who had just gotten a serving. The breading was perfect and nicely seasoned, and the inch-tall rings of sweet white onion - wow. Giant, delicious onion rings. My son was attracted to the blackened sole but I persuaded him that we needed the clam cutlets because - cutlets of razor clam, seriously? And they were cutlets, a thing we had never seen, nicely breaded and delicious. We like clams. The fries were okay, just fries. The tartar sauce was light and an excellent tangy counterpoint, and the cocktail sauce was truly amazing. We were impressed. Both plates came with a small slice of tasty watermelon, too. We left very full and well-satisfied but not feeling weighted down. If you are ever in the area before 3pm on the days they are open - do not miss Gill's on the bluff By the Bay.

Very disappointed they don't allow dogs . Was looking forward to dining there and so forget it …read more Very disappointing ... this is a dog friendly town and you have a lovely outdoors and you'd deny access? Most dog owners are very respectful and quite well behaved dogs . Losing A LOT of customers ..

Went with a group visiting from out of town and wanted somewhere nice and cozy inside. The…read morerestaurant looked a little busy, most tables were full but the parties were small. Staff overall were great, and our waiter was very professional. The menu looks really good and as the name implies, there's a lot of seafood options for dinner. Someone got the fish and chips which was pricier than other places BUT it came with FOUR pieces instead of the usual three. I did the Snapper Almandine which was so good so amazingly delicious, I would absolutely eat that again. the polenta side tho was probably my favorite of the night, so crispy on the outside and soft and tender inside, flavor was amazing . If they piled high on a dinner plate and served that for 30 I would take it!!! I'll be very curious to try one of the steaks next time and see how it compares with other restaurants in town that I hear recommended often. The only minor issue was trying to get a replacement water glass after we first sat down because of lipstick print on the glass. I hate talking too loud in restaurants so thankfully the hostess noticed us before long. I feel for the kitchen staff, those oils do not wipe off cleanly and I often wonder how it is removed from cloth napkins.

We were passing through Eureka and the hotel that we stayed at recommended this restaurant. We…read morecalled and made a reservation, which was very easy and walked from our hotel to the restaurant...a few blocks. We were quickly seated and water was brought over and that our server came to take our drink order. They had specialty cocktails, beer, and wine and a full bar. I just wanted a glass of wine, and i did get a glass of wine. However, I would say the choices for by the glass wine was not great. The food however, was excellent! We started with the Dungeness crab cocktail, which was a very nice portion for two. Then we followed with a cup of clam chowder that we shared. We each had a house salad that I thought was delicious. I had vinaigrette on mine and my husband have thousand island on his. He has been on this eternal search for the best thousand island dressing and he swears by this one! We also split tonight, special of Halibut with a white wine, garlic butter sauce, and Shitake mushrooms. It was not only the perfect portion size, but extremely good! We skipped dessert, but moved to the bar for a nightcap where we met a local guy and a few other visitors...it was very fun...everyone was very friendly! If you're passing through and you would like a good dinner, I would suggest this location.
