A cute concept and aesthetic space, but the food didn't quite come together for me. Stopped by Cafe Etoile after a doctor's appointment because I was in the mood for brunch. Their menu showed items like waffles and croissant French toast, which sounded really promising. I decided to try the croissant French toast and really wanted to like it. The croissant itself had potential, but the egg mixture was very heavy and lacked some of the warm flavors you typically expect in French toast, like cinnamon or vanilla. Even with the berries and syrup, it still leaned very egg-forward. I also ordered a side of bacon for some extra protein, and that was actually cooked really well. For drinks, I tried the strawberry latte with the vanilla bean soft top. I initially expected more of a coffee-forward drink, but it was much sweeter and reminded me more of an elevated strawberry milk. The space itself is cute and gives more of a social, aesthetic hangout vibe than a traditional brunch spot. Parking can also be a bit tricky. There's free parking in the Trader Joe's garage nearby, but it's unclear whether parking there while dining at the café is allowed. Overall, I liked the concept and atmosphere more than the actual food during this visit.
This is one of my favorite cafes ever - will definitely be back!! The staff are SO lovely and accommodating. The matcha cloud was delicious and so was the food! Came a couple times with a friend to check it out and see if we could host a larger group event. It was fantastic every time and the event went super well. Dropped by Cafe Etoile in Berkeley recently and it was so good. You can see the huge portions in the pic I took. The food is amazing . the fried chicken and waffles were super crispy and savory, and we also got a sweet waffle loaded with fresh berries and chocolate that totally hit the spot. The ambiance is really chill and rustic with nice wooden tables, making it a super cozy place to just hang out and eat. The service was also really fast and friendly, and they made sure we had everything we needed. Definitely coming back!
Warm, cozy brunch vibes! You order at the register, seat yourself, and come up to get your food once your pager buzzes. They have water and condiments at the front, just take what you need. I ordered the Salmon Eggs Benedict with roasted potatos ($19) and it was so yummy! I think the price is fair for the quality and portion. The potatoes were a little undercooked in my opinion and could've used more seasoning, but they do have salt and pepper at the front, so it wasn't a deal breaker. Eggs Benedict itself was delicious, the eggs were cooked perfectly. We came at 11am on a rainy Saturday and were able to find free 2-hr parking a block down. The ambiance was so lovely and cozy - soft holiday instrumental music, cute Halloween decor, surrounded by friends catching up or studying together. Would come again to try one of their drinks!
Wanted to try this place since I heard it was also Korean-inspired. The place was so crowded even though it was quite spacious but got lucky with a table on at a busy brunch time. The coffee & kimchi fried rice were to-taste but the chicken & croffle was absolutely a game changer (first time trying) - amazingly tender/juicy chicken and crispy croffle with a hint of sugar. Will definitely come back to try out more on a less busy day!
We came here on a Saturday as soon as they opened. The place is right on the corner so there's plenty of street parking. The place is nice and open. There's a ton of seating. The menu is on the wall on clip boards. I ordered a turkey sandwich and my husband ordered chicken and waffles. They bring the food to you so you sit anywhere you want . There's free water but they do sell a good amount of drinks. The food is made to order so be patient. They use good fresh ingredients and portions are generous. The food is delicious and service is great. We had a great experience and will definitely will return.
This is overall a decent cafe with good food. I would recommend any of their signature meals: the croffle, salmon avocado toast, and Korean-inspired food is all delicious and interesting. The drinks aren't anything special, especially for the price. The interior is a bit dim but welcoming and often has space on weekdays. You could sit here for a few hours with a laptop, but the data and WiFi here are both bad. If I was ever working on an offline project or sitting with friends, this would be a good place to go. They also run big sport events (e.g. March Madness) on the TV.
Came here on a weekday around noon. The staff were super friendly and provided great service! Ordering was quick, took about 5 minutes, but the food did take a bit longer, around 20-30 minutes, which was understandable as it was a little busy inside. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. The interior has a warm, inviting atmosphere with plenty of windows, making it perfect for a coffee chat or study session. Based on rush, you may not get a buzzer, so watch out for your order at the pickup window! I got the Chicken Croffle, and wow, the chicken was incredibly juicy and flavorful! It was so tender, literally shredding so easily with just a stab of my fork. The savory chicken paired perfectly with the slightly sweeter croffle underneath. The croffle itself had that perfect crunch from all the layers of a croissant but with the softness of an actual waffle. One thing I did notice is that the croffle was a bit challenging to cut with the knife provided, but it was still totally worth the effort! Overall, the food was great! I love that they have other Korean-inspired dishes. I definitely want to come back and try those!
I visited for weekend brunch and, while it was busy, it was also cozy. I was lucky enough to grab a high top table by the window. The ordering process was easy; simply order from the menu and find a table. I went for the chicken croffle with two eggs on the side. The food arrived promptly with generous portions, honestly enough to share with another person. The best part was how everything looked just as delicious as it tasted. The coffee was great too, rich, bold and packed with flavor. I took off one star because the employee at the register wasn't very welcoming, but thankfully it didn't impact the quality of the food.
Quint Cafe is in the heart of Berkeley, and I really appreciate its relaxed atmosphere. I tried their cheese corffle, which was crunchy, sweet, and savory--a great combo. The Crunchy Spicy Chicken Sandwich had a good-sized piece of chicken; it was filling. I did wish it had a bit more seasoning on the chicken and more flavorful coleslaw. The Croque Madame with a fried egg was quite enjoyable. The salad on the side added a nice touch and complemented the dish well. Good place for hangout!
Decided to try this place for breakfast. Had hard time finding parking, you order your food and find a seat. The cashier was not helpful at all, told her it's our first time here what to recommend, handed us a paper menu and asked us to step a side to look over the menu and took the next person in line. Had to get back in line to order. Not the cleanest place I've been to. The floors are not so clean and some of the tables are not cleaned. The place is overwhelming with signs of everything they serve on the menu... The egg Benedict was ok... tried their bacon and egg croffle it's a croissant smashed into a waffle didn't care for it at all because though it would be crispy, not at all it was just sticky and stretchy like a smashed croissant...
Doordashed. Everything was good! Better than expected. I wish they had breakfast sausage--that would be so great! The breakfast sandwich was good, but if they had a sausage option--oooweeee! The basil pesto croffle was really tasty. Tastes just like a pizza, kinda. Friend got the avocado toast--i didn't get to taste if, but she really enjoyed it.
Everything I've ever purchased has been delicious and the staff is very nice. It's a cute place with plenty of sitting for for yourself, a pair or a large group. I highly recommend the Chicken Croffle Benedict.
The food was so delicious hands down one of the best fried chicken and egg benedict's I've ever had, would definitely come back here just for that My bf got the pistachio latte and he really liked it, but I thought my matcha was subpar and didn't finish most of it, I don't think it's ceremonial grade hence the bitter taste of my drink, but the mango bingsoo was pretty good too, it's nice that they use real fresh mangos although I think it's the red mangos as opposed to the honey mangos that most other bingsoo stores use Service: very friendly service, no qualms :) Ambiance: it's a mix of cafe vibes and a dine-in brunch spot, there are a few outlets by the walls and people do sit down and do their work here while others just come here to eat. Cafe Etoile opens in Cafe Nostos place. interior remains the same. outside/inside seating. food is french with korean influences. offerings: pastries, salads, sandwiches covfefe. eats: croffee cheese (5.5) -a crossaint waffle with cheese overlayed tasted like a sweet waffle. -despike being warmed, it didn't taste warm. may have had texture of a waffle. croissant dulce de leche cheese (4.50) -initial taste was nada. warmed up in toaster later, it had a faint taste of a sweet jam, crust was flaky. 3.5 stars. not a good value, pastries not flavorful despite being warmed up. should have ordered the made to go order. would have if i had the time to wait.... read more

French + Korean fusion?! YES! I love chicken and waffles. Although the kimchi fried rice looked amazing, I had to try the Chicken and Croffle and a matcha latte. This was my first chicken and croffle ever! I did like how the croffle was slightly crisp with a sweet layer of carmelized sugar. The chicken was succulent under a thin, crispy layer of friend breading. Ask for the spicy syrup rather than the regular syrup because it is so much more tasty! I also ordered a macha latte with almond milk and no sugar. It was delicious! The staff was very friendly and super courteous. We appreciate the friendly demeanor on busy mornings. Get the croffle! It's a croissant and a waffle! Omg sooo good!!! The crunchy sweet exterior w.the soft interior of a croissant, how did they come up with this!!! It paired so well with the bacon bc it's salty and can't forget the runny egg! The inside is cute with plenty of seating. Tables had fresh flowers. Service: You go up to the counter and place your order. The young man at the front needed to be more, "on it". When he saw us come up to the counter , I was expecting him to say something along the lines of," hey what can I get started for you", you know. But no. He just stood there looking at us, no words. No hello. Poker face. that was sooooo awkward for us. He said they'd call out our order. We wanted to sit outside so I told him how long it'd be so we could come back inside incase we didn't hear. He was like, 10 min but if we're not busy we'll bring it out to you. Ok? I truly think they should call out your name and not the food, what if multiple people ordee the same item. Also we were outside so we couldn't hear! They should come up with a better system. Restroom was out of toilet seat covers and it was barely 11am! They have a key for the 1 restroom and this stuff grosses me out bc tons of people touch said key and not everyone washes their hands. With only having seen the pic for fried chicken, was expecting like southern Cajun place but I was hugely mistaken. Korean fusion that hit the fried chicken and croffle mark with a bang! There was a huge table for a family meal and let me tell you - we finished EVERYTHING. Fried chicken and croffle was a banger!! The chicken was juicy, crispy, with the crunchy waffle made with crossaint and a side of spicy (Just enough) syrup. That'll be living in my head rent-free but drooling for a very long time. The kids also loveddddd it so much! The bulgogi sando was also super delicious. Drinks - gingerbread Chai Latte warmed our souls. New gem in Berkeley! It's right next to Trader Joe's so that's how I discovered it. It's a good alternative brunch spot if you don't want to deal with lines at places like Berkeley Social Club or La Note. Also a good coffee place for studying/working, though I cannot speak of their wifi situation. They have plenty of shaded outdoor seatings on the sidewalks if you don't mind seating next to the street. Service was friendly and efficient. They brought the food and drinks to our table. We tried the croffle and it was delicious! It's supposed to be a croissant and a waffle combined. They served it with savory options like chicken croffle and bacon & egg croffle, or sweet option like cream & berry croffle. The cold brew was nothing special but it does the job. Overall, I recommend giving this place a try, for the food or the vibe! read more

Nice chill spot to sit down and study, catch up with friends, maybe a meet up spot for your first date to get a feel for each other. Went here for breakfast with my wife and friend. Order at the counter and sit anywhere that's open. Staff was nice. Got the fried chicken and croffle to eat and an ice chai latte. The food was delicious. Fried chicken was crispy and juicy. The maple syrup had a nice kick to it so it was just regular maple syrup. The croffle was crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Wife got the bulgogi sandwich which she said was amazing. Will be coming back here to try more stuff on the menu. Really cute place for brunch and studying! It's one of my favorite cafes in Berkeley. I ordered the Bacon and Egg Croffle and Cappuccino. Really delicious Croffle and cappuccino. My friend ordered a brownie cheesecake and steamed oat milk. I tried the brownie cheesecake and it was really good. If you are going to Café Etoile to study, make sure your electronics are charged. There aren't many chargers in the cafe. The atmosphere is pretty lively. Perfect for people who like to study with some background noise and things going on around them. It is on the pricier side but definitely worth to check out! I can't wait to try more items on the menu! read more

Best Cafe Latte this side of Berkeley. I usually take my coffee black, no sugar and so a latte is my weekend treat. It's nice to find a cup that lets the simple flavors of Coffee and steamed milk shine. Ordered the croissant french toast and it was topped full of berries, very good! Probably not the place to order kimchi bowls as the rice was cold and the texture was not pleasant. Will stick to the French inspired items next time. read more

This is a cozy yet bustling cafe next to Trader Joe's. It's difficult to find street parking, but you can park in the Trader Joe's garage for free! I love all the different food options I've tried (especially the Cream & Berries Croffle), but I haven't had the best experience with drinks. The matcha latte is super powdery, and if you ask for sweetener, they just drizzle some honey on top of the foam (so it's not blended well into the latte). The cafe is a casual vibe, so you order, sit down, then pick up your dish when it's ready. I had no issues the first time I came, but it was a little chaotic the second time because half the customers had buzzers and the other half didn't. Buzzers were going off constantly *and* an employee was shouting orders really loudly when they were ready. It was a bummer because the cafe otherwise feels serene with soft music in the background. Also, this is a small note, but the seating area isn't very ADA accessible. You should be fine if you sit at one of the larger tables near the entrance. Otherwise there are a bunch of small tables in the back, and it can be difficult to navigate the space. read more

This restaurant was on my want to go list for a long time, finally went for breakfast. Very basic and simple restaurant, but the overall environment makes you feel comfortable. You need to order and pay at the counter. We ordered Chicken croffle egg and bacon croffle and black coffee. Foods ready within 10mins. The café is casual. You order before you sit down. After ordering you're given a pager that will buzz when your food is ready. Service was fast. The chicken croffle was delicious! The chicken was crispy on the outside yet still tender and juicy on the inside. I highly recommend ordering it! The iced matcha latte unfortunately was one of the worst I've had. It tasted as though it had been made in a hurry and not whisked properly because the matcha powder was poorly incorporated into the liquid. The milk to matcha ratio was also off. We decided to walk from our hotel to have coffee Saturday morning. We enjoyed it so much we decided to have lunch with my son and friends. They all enjoyed que quality and location as it is walking distance from school. As we are driving back home, we came to have lunch before our journey home. This is a very busy place as they are only open from 8-3pm. They have outside sitting and in side as well. Every very clean and organized. Cute new cafe in the Berkeley area. Came by on a weekday morning and there was plenty of seating available. Staff were very friendly and menu is up on the wall (food choices on clipboards and beverages behind the cashier). Of note, there are some food choices that are only on weekends so just be aware. It's an interesting combination of Korean and French. Got a latte, berries and cream croffle, and a bacon and eggs croffle. Latte: decent, very milky but a decent balance. Comes in a mug if you're sitting down and at least on the menu it says refills for $1.5, didn't take advantage of that and not sure if it would only be for tea/drip coffee instead of espresso based drinks. Croffles: interesting but not in a bad way. It is more like a soft waffle that pulls apart in layers (if that makes any sense). Interesting chewy texture and pretty sweet. Personally I would reorder the berries and cream. I'm generally not a sweet and savory combination person and the croffle part is a bit too sweet with each bite of the bacon and eggs croffle for me. The whipped cream on the berries and cream croffle is amazing and worked well with the overall dish. Overall can take or leave the latte but would probably come back for the berries and cream croffle or to try out more of the menu. read more

came here on a sunny tuesday morning with my ol' gramps and had a jolly good time. cafe etoile has a nice ambiance and speedy service, making a great study spot! ok food review time: a-tier: chicken and croffle: i really enjoy the classic chicken and waffles combination, so i was really excited to try this. it was definitely really tasty, but it fell a little short of my expectations, as the croffle was a little difficult to cut. b-tier: pistachio latte: would've liked the pistachio flavor to be a little stronger, but it was alright overall. read more
If you're looking to start your mornings in Berkeley, you're in for a treat if you visit Café Etoile. Everything is super affordable about $15 or less if my memories serves me right. My friend and I wanted to try a new spot. The food is 10/10, DELICIOUS! The café drinks, not so much but they look pretty! I got a chai latte and my friend got a caramel latte but she didn't really taste the caramel she said. My chai was fine, not too sweet We got the croissant French toast and breakfast sandwich. I got a side of bacon and egg. The one thing is, you order and go sit, this is not a traditional restaurant where there is a server or waitress seating you. Seating is first come, first serve if you're hoping to dine in. It can get pretty loud too, but overall it was a really great experience and I love a good breakfast spot! read more

Give me my croffle and get out of my way!! No, but seriously lol, these are dank. Cafe Etoile opened right next to the Berkeley Trader Joes and has a fun brunch menu with some unique Korean fusions. I had to go with the sweet n savor chicken n coffee and mix it with the fruit medley croffle for the fruity goodness. Every bite of the croffle is glorious lol. It takes me back to childhood and reminds me of eating fried desserts at the fair. The portion sizes are just right, so you don't leave feeling like you need to nap your day away. Very cute cafe, brunch, and dessert spot! I am a big fan of croffles but don't know of many places that offer them, so I am very excited that Cafe Etoile has them on their menu. Cafe Etoile is located near the Trader Joe's on MLK Jr Way. The space isn't huge but there is still a lot of seating. I can't speak on the parking situation, but it is only a 10 minute walk from the edge of campus and is close to public transportation. We came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded. The service was very friendly and quick. The menu has plenty of brunch items, baked goods, cafe drinks, and bingsoo (very exciting!!!). We ordered the bacon & egg croffle, croque monsieur, morning bun, pumpkin spice latte, and house-made lemonade. The food was really tasty. The meal was light while still being filling. The croffle was crisp and sweet, which was nicely complemented by the saltiness of the bacon and egg. Would love to come again to try more items. I came here for brunch by myself on a cloudy Saturday morning at 10an. Seating was maybe 80% full, ordering was quick and easy, and food came out within 20 minutes. This is a counter service place so you get a buzzer when you order. I got the bacon and egg croffle which was excellent. I didn't realize the croffle would come with some caramelized sugar and really liked the savory and sweet combination of the dish. I also had a toffee latte which was not too sweet. I stumbled upon Cafe Etoile while in Berkeley, and my friend really wanted to try their Fried Chicken & Croffle. Admittedly, I've had a croffle before and wasn't too impressed, but decided to try it again. I'm definitely glad I did! The portion was massive for the price ($13 + tax), but more importantly it tasted delicious! The fried chicken was crispy and savory, and paired well with the chewy and sweet croffle.
