One of my absolute favorite places in Baltimore! I've been going here once a week when possible and love almost everything they have. Special shout-out about the tamago sando and dark mochas though - you truly cannot find anything like this elsewhere in Bmore! Fantastic little cafe in Canton! The service was A++! The ham and cheese croissant was phenomenal! I'm very glad that I got to be a part of a Yelp Elite event and got to check out this excellent cafe! I arrived just as they opened and there was already a line. That was a good sign. The place was very clean and the staff were very friendly. Since I was a first timer, I asked what was good and the staff walked me through all of their fresh made bakery items. The morning of these treats, my wife and I split their savory twist on a bagel with cream cheese and lox. This version was the Michelin two star version, with depth and breadth of luscious flavors that blended together into a morning masterpiece. (Read the photo title for details.) Cafe Dear Leon is now my favorite bakery in Baltimore by a long shot! Everything I've tried here has been simple but incredibly made. The offerings change significantly throughout the day so it's definitely worth several visits and different hours. There's always a small line and their popular items sell out quick so try to make it there around the time the goods will come out of the oven (11am for lunch items). Some highlights: Smoked salmon sandwich: the croissant was light and flaky and the sweet pickles really brightened the sandwich. It was elegant and delicious. Chocolate croissant: they glaze the chocolate croissants here which created a satisfying solid crunch on the exterior. But inside was flaky, airy, and filled with way more chocolate than I've seen in a standard chocolate croissant before. Oat scone: came early in the morning for this one. Looks and sounds simple but has a richness and depth that makes this a hidden gem and a must try! Jam and butter come on the side. French cruller: thought this would be an average donut when I bought it but was in for an incredibly surprise. It was very light and just barely sweet. The dough had a deep egg-y richness and a perfect amount of salt. This is now one of my favorite items in their line up! Matcha latte: I don't usually like matcha lattes but the one here is perfection! The matcha is prepared fresh to order and is strong and rich. The sweetened version is lightly sweet which is perfectly balanced with how refreshing and satisfying the drink is. They serve ceremony coffee here which is prepared just as well as ceremony's own cafes. Extremely friendly and courteous staff. We ordered the cheesecake, which was simply awesome, and the muffin, which was also amazing. We also got a mocha latte and it was made perfectly. Would recommend grabbing your snack and heading to the park across the street to enjoy it. My only regret is not showing up early enough to get some of the stuff that was already sold out! Also had the tiramisu. I think pretty highly of my own tiramisu since I was trained by my friend from Italy on the authentic way to prepare it, but I must say this tiramisu is quite awesome! read more

I went in for a hot tea, but the ham and leek croissant caught my eye so of course I had to buy one. And, a few other treats to take home. I found everything to be delightful - tasty weekend treats for my wife and I. The location is right in the heart of Canton. No big sign to see if driving by, but as a walking neighborhood it was right there near the park and a perfect location for the locals. They seemed to have strong COVID protocols in place and the staff and customers were all respectful of the distancing and waiting outside as requested. Which was really helpful, because this was the first coffee shop I've been in since March 2020 so I was a little cautious of being out in the world! Came here on Saturday around 11:30. There was a line outside already, but we didnt have to wait too long - probably around 10-15 minutes. I've got to say, this is one of the best bakeries I've been to (including ones in NYC), and I'm so glad it opened in Baltimore. We ordered the oat pecan cookies, financier, cheesecake, apple turnover, and tamago sandwich. I also wanted to try the egg tart and apple cruller, but unfortunately they were sold out for the day already. The financier, cheesecake, and tamago sando were amazing. The two desserts were moist, had a creamy/ milky taste and weren't too sweet. They reminded me of desserts I've had in Asia. The Tamago sando was similar to an egg salad but 100x better because the mayo flavour isnt super heavy, and they added something else to it that I couldnt quite place but really brought out the other flavours in the sandwich. I cant say if it is similar to the ones in Japan because I've never tried the original ones, but even if not, this was a spectacular sandwich by itself. The apple turnover and cookies were good too but I've had similar/better ones elsewhere and they really can't compare to how spectacular the first three items are. I would love to come back and try the egg tart or maybe order another 10 tamagos sandos. A great addition to Canton for sure . Coming from someone who grew up with asian pastry all around parts of north jersey and New York , I am excited that this place opened in Baltimore city . After moving from NY- it's extremely hard to find good asian food/pastry . Paris baguette was literally of norm to me . Considering I've been here about 6 times since the place opened, I thought it was time to give a review on the place ! Since half of my family lives in Toronto- Cafe Leon reminds me of the cafes you would see in downtown Toronto! Service- 8/10 . The boy who makes the coffee and who was usually there every time I went was super friendly and welcoming . The lady who works the register and packs stuff up - not crazy about her, but glad the guy there helps lighten up the mood ! Ratings in the food/pastry I've tried (from highest to lowest) 1. Cheesecake 15/10 (lol) - okay this brings back childhood memories !!! If you ever been to any parts of asia (specifically korea, China , or Taiwan ) this is the version of asian cheesecake which to me is better than any type of American cheesecake ( yes even Cheesecake Factory) . This is extremely hard to find around the area and is very comparable to the cheesecakes I've had in Toronto . I've looked at recipes for this since COVID started and it honestly looks so difficult hence why I haven't tried yet ! 2. Egg tart 10/10 - their version of an egg tart reminds me more of a portugueses egg tart from what I've read . However - for me, I rushed to get these since growing up Hong Kong egg tart was a traditional weekend pastry! You know ...the ones you would get at Dim Sum . However, cafe leon did a great job with this egg tart . The crust is more of a Portuguese style egg tart (which is delicious) however, the egg part still hits the spot for me whenever I crave Hong Kong style egg tart ! 3. Cold cut sandwich (8/10) - I really enjoyed this sandwich ! Although the ingredients were quite simple, the bread that went along with it was really tasty ! I would get this again for sure! 4. Tomago sandwhich (5/10) - I think this one is a little overhyped in my opinion ! It was good don't get my wrong . The runny egg in the middle really is the icing of the cake, however, I think the egg salad itself was a bit bland . I make a pretty mean egg salad at home to be fair . The bread was super tasty though ! 5. Tiramisu (4/10)- I know I know shocker since everybody seems to rave about this ! So - I have and always will be a dessert person . I am literally SO picky about food in general and dessert even more . Tiramisu Is hands down one of my favorite desserts so I'm super critical about tiramisu in general . I've never tried their banana pudding yet, and here are two reasons why: 1. Magnolia Bakery will always have my heart in banana pudding 2. Have you ever tried looking up how to make banana pudding ? It's pretty easy ! And I've made it countless times for myself and other guests . It has always been a great hit . Ok - so back to the tiramisu . Well back to the same way I make banana pudding , the tiramisu tasted very similar except with tiramisu flavors of course! You use ALOT of heavy cream to make banana pudding and the tiramisu tasted like all of that . Sugar and heavy cream ? Anything sweet is good, so the tiramisu itself wasn't bad . The lady fingers weren't soaked enough and it was kinda dry . So it tasted like I was eating a spoonful of heavy cream and soggy bread . Flavors were there and I think this can have more potential for sure ! 6. Mocha latte (7/10) - good . A little TOO sweet for my taste , but I mean that's my fault - Im ordering a mocha, what do I expect lol . I think next time I'll ask for less of the mocha syrup ! 7. Regular latte with oat milk (10/10)- okay so I hate ceremony coffee . I absolutely cannot stand it ! I've also given the coffee beans as gifts before to friends and family and it was not a huge hit . It wasn't until the fourth time my sister had to tell me to stop buying it for her because she hated it so much she didn't want to tell me !!! Lol . I'm more of a Aveley farms person ! But, but but but, i don't know if it's the oat milk of what kind of magic cafe Leon does, but I really enjoy how they make the coffee here ! I guess it must not be the beans , but the barista :) . You know it's authentic when they call it a pain au chocolat instead of a "chocolate croissant" lol. They have some of the best ham and cheese and almond croissants I've ever had, and I love trying their seasonal treats. I live down the street so my girlfriend and I stop here all the time. I am so glad I made a trip during the lunch break to try the sandwiches today! I have heard of this Tamago (egg) Sandwich in Canton, Baltimore. I am born and raised in Tokyo, and believe or not, Japanese breads are good. so good. It is so hard to find Japanese style breads here in the States. So when I heard about this new bakery, I got to try. Location - may hard to find the parking because the block was blocked for outside seating. You may be able to find some hidden parking in residential area. But location is great if you can walk (like my friend did) - heart of Canton. Price - I think the sandwich were decent price, considering the amount of sandwich we got. Tamago Sandwich - it reminded me of my home. Toast was like the one I used to eat in Japan for breakfast. Very good! egg salad is not too much mayo, and not sure if they added cucumber pickles? maybe not but it was very seasons. If you like hard boiled well-done egg then this is not for you. I like just the way they made. Cold Cut Sandwich - this was really really good! Bread was very moist, a lot of Italian meats (not even sure what kinds...multiples were there) and arugula! It was very simple but very tasty. They may just used butter and mustard? Cheesecake - very rich! this is the same kind that I eat in Japan too! Not too sweet but very rich flavor. Chocolate cookies - I just love chocolate so I needed to have this double chocolate cookies. It was very good. Sandwich itself didn't look so big but we shared half of each. And we were sooo full! I visited on a Friday and Sunday around 11 and it took me about 10-15 minutes each time to place my order. On my first visit I went with the crab and egg sando because, well, crab. It definitely exceeded my expectations. I visited two days later and tried the original tamago sando. I was worried I wouldn't enjoy it as much as the crab version, but I took a chance. As much as I love crab, the other version is even better. The egg salad is perfectly seasoned and the yolk from the sliced egg, impressively, did not dry at all. Huge relief for a runny egg lover. We had a holiday hospital event catered by Cafe Dear Leon. We catered dessert with a delicious oat chocolate chip cookie that was literally heavenly. It was ooey goey delicious- pro tip a few seconds in the microwave !! Each cookie was individually wrapped and COVID-safe. The management was timely, easy to work with and so wonderful. Would highly recommend to other companies looking for a dessert partner for catering. P.S this might be too much but if you're wondering if they keep well I have your answer! Came here on a Sunday early afternoon and was pleasantly greeted. Firstly, I really enjoy the interior aesthetic, and gives off a modern, yet homey vibe to the store. It's cool that they have Korean pastry books on their shelves with top-quality recipes too. Some of the popular items (such as chocolate croissant, salmon croissant) will sell out quickly so I would recommend getting there a little earlier than the times listed above. This is my new favorite cafe in Baltimore and I'm so happy to see how far this place has grown since they started with just a few hundred followers on instagram. First -- I'm thrilled to have a Korean-owned cafe in the city, bringing some much needed diversity to Baltimore. You can see the influence in their minimalistic aesthetic. The pastries are INCREDIBLE-- I was blown away by the French Cruller especially but everything is good. I also really enjoyed their Cold Cuts sandwich, Egg Sandoz, and cookies. Been a fan of this cafe for quite a while now! They have monthly set bake schedules that are so popular that you have to arrive early to beat the line before everything is sold out. The cafe is near the canton waterfront so I always try to enjoy my items by the water :-) The interior is small, clean, and modern (aesthetically pleasing lol). The service is always so polite and helpful, and they are always happy to answer any questions. I haven't been disappointed with any drink orders! Coffee is strong, rich, and not overly bitter or sweet. I usually get some mocha, latte, or chai. Every drink I get feels like a nice hug lol. Haven't really been disappointed with the food either. Even though I haven't had everything, my favorites so far are the cinnamon sugar crullers, cheesecake, banana pudding, and tamago sando. I like the original cinnamon sugar cruller the most because I feel like the other ones are just too sweet for me. The cheesecake is a basque cheesecake which is so delicious, but they add a little citrus zest to it which I like! The tamago sando (egg sandwich) is actually super good wow. Maybe because I've never had an egg sandwich before but it was just so flavorful. If I had to be picky on something, the crullers can be a bit too greasy sometimes but I can look past it. I think the food/pastries overall are good but not super mind-blowing, considering w the prices too. But I'll still get a pastry once and a while! Overall, great cafe! WOW!! If you are reading this, don't waste any more time and get your butt to Cafe Dear Leon ASAP! After Yelp and Instagram-stalking this bakery for a month, I finally decided to go. My biggest hesitation was driving over to Canton Square. I live in the Harbor East area, and yes, I know! It's like 2 miles away from where I live, but my laziness knows no bounds. Also, I was very content with going to Ovenbird Bakery for all my baked good cravings. After trying the various baked goods, I can honestly say that this is one of the best bakeries I've ever been to! And BY FAR, the best bakery in Baltimore! Here are the highlights/standouts: 1. Atmosphere/Location: Very easy to get to in Canton Square. The street parking can be hit or miss. The bakery itself is soooo cute and quaint! It reminds me of something you'd see in a romantic comedy. 2. Customer Service: They are sooo nice and helpful. Knowing it was my first time there, the lady at the counter was so warm, friendly, and described all their options. 3. All the baked goods. I ordered the almond croissant, financier, oat pecan chocolate cookie, and apple galette. It was all soooo delicious. Make sure to check their website or social media page to check their daily offerings because everything this is made fresh so their website will tell you when certain goods will begin selling. I made the mistake of going later in the afternoon and a lot of offerings we're sold out really quickly so go early! So far I've tried the mocha latte and the chai tea and it was delicious especially the chai Tamago sando is a must-try! It's a classic Japanese egg sandwich with a soft yolk egg in the center. The filling is creamy and flavorful enveloped in a soft, pillowy, and toasted buttery bread. Matcha Hazelnut loaf was scrumptious. The slight bitterness of the matcha and the chocolate gives it a night balance and contrast while the hazelnuts throughout gave it nice textures. read more

We stopped by Cafe Dear Leon for some pastries and coffees a couple of weeks ago. The pastries were great (we had a Kouign-Amann and a ham and cheese croissant), and the coffees were great too. During COVID, they're only allowing two parties (total of four people) in the shop at a time, but that doesn't make much of a difference really, because Cafe Dear Leon is so tiny that's about how many people can fit in the shop anyway! On a Sunday morning around 9, the line was already pretty long (almost down to the corner of the block at Potomac); I think it took about 25 minutes to get inside to order. I believe they just added some outside seating, but when we were there they didn't have that yet, but we enjoyed our pastries and coffee at one of the benches in O'Donnell Square Park, which was really great. Baltimore has some great bakeries, and Cafe Dear Leon is definitely on the list! Would happily visit again. read more

I was in Baltimore for a very brief period of time and my schedule was hectic, but I made it a point to wake up early despite not being a morning person, to eat their pastries and grab coffee. This place was better than cafes I've been to in Paris. I had the best focaccia of my life here, and the most delicious chocolate croissants. Okay so I like to sleep in on the weekends so sometimes it's hard to get here because they sell out of items pretty quickly and there's no reason they're not going to do that because they're incredible. I got to try the egg sandwich and it is awesome. The bread is so soft and flavorful and the egg it's just how this world. The shop is really cute and I literally like the coffee selection. I got to try an iced coffee and it was truly delicious. I will try and wake up early so I get to try this delicious shop again. read more

Everything was too yummy, and I devoured my snack before I had the chance to get a picture. I tried the pastry that's pronounced like the word queen. It was so buttery and delicious and just melted in my mouth. It took everything in my power to not turn my car around to go back and get another. Prices are reasonable, my pastry was 3.50. I have fortunately went on a weekday at like 7 AM so there was not a line, but I can understand why there would be a line on the weekends. There is a lot of variety in the pastries and a good drink menu to match. While I was there was no vegetarian salty pastry option, as all of them had meat if they were savory. How have I never reviewed my faves?! I am in such love with everything here: the financiers are everything, the tamago Sando is good, but the crab & egg salad is next level...the crème brûlée tart, the croissants, the focaccia...I mean, I've tried almost everything and everything slaps!! read more
