We came at opening time and were seated promptly. We got the cafe viennois (6,00), beef tartare (18,00) and the beef carpaccio (15,00). I would skip the beef carpaccio as it was quite chewy but it comes with the scalloped potatoes which was SO DELICIOUS. I am not exaggerating. This warm potato dish with lots of cream and butter is so satisfying that it fills a void in your heart that you never knew you were missing. The beef tartare also comes with the scalloped potatoes which I already raved about above. The beef tartare was so fresh tasting and different from anything we've had before. You mix it together and enjoy. I loved the extra bite you get from the capers. I would definitely recommend this dish here. The Viennese coffee was the perfect ratio of cream to espresso. It might look like a lot of cream but it actually isn't. The cream is silky smooth and there's no sugar in it. It doesn't make you feel sickly afterwards. It's good - get it The service was really good. My fiancé and I had an absolute amazing time at this restaurant. The waitress knew we spoke English and kindly gave us their menu in English. I thought that was super accommodating. The ladies (some spoke English and some didn't) worked together to make sure we had a good time. We dined out on Monday evening and the cafe was packed with French people. It was nice to be immersed in the local environment - watching French people gathered drinking wine, and enjoying their friends' company. My fiancé ordered the sausage with mashed potatoes and I ordered two starters like the escargots and the leeks. I wanted to try the local cuisines before I leave France, and it did not disappoint. The meals were lovely. The only thing I wish for was that I was hoping the leeks were warm, however, I think they may be meant to be enjoyed as an appetizer? You can definitely taste a hint of mimosa. It was refreshing. The chocolate was rich and you know it's the French way because it's creamy and buttery. The escargot was prepared with pesto sauce so I didn't have to suck it out of the shells. And I enjoyed dipping the bread into the sauce and I was full afterwards. At the end, they did not rush us out. They also asked if we wanted more bread. Found the closest open restaurant on a Sunday early afternoon for lunch as we just landed in Paris. The service was meh and the food was only ok but at least it soothed our hunger for the time being. The steak was chewy but the potatoes were cooked well. The fish was overly buttery but retained its moisture. My favorite dish surprisingly turned out to be the curry shrimp. The shrimp was fresh and the curry was flavorful with just the right amount of kick. They unfortunately ran out of escargot and the foie gras was only ok. This was a restaurant that I was near and had seen on Yelp so I gave it a go and I'm glad I did. The place was not very busy when I was here and service was very good. I ordered the hanger steak that came with caramelized onions and au gratin potatoes. But first, I started with a wonderful serving of 6 escargots with plenty of garlic juice. I used a piece or two of baguette to soak up some of the juices. The steak was properly done and was tender. For dessert, I ordered what turned out to be chocolate molten cake. This place was recommended by our Air BnB host as her favorite local place. We were a little intimidated since we don't speak a lick of French. Four of us dined here and were treated very well. We asked for the WiFi and they wrote it down for us. The waitress spoke enough English for us to comfortably order and make small talk about the cat laying by our table. They also had English menus they offered us when we first walked in. We all ordered something different so we could taste many different dishes. The service is mediocre but the food is fantastic and a bit on the cheaper side for the portions you receive (for Paris, at least). I was charmed by this place a few years ago due to the interesting decor and soft lighting. Whenever I can't remember the name I call it, "The Safari Place" because of the old guns, photos, and random animal mounts and pelts. We have been nothing but polite, didn't even bother our waitress, mainly because she wouldn't even give us a chance to make eye contact. We would ask for water and she would swerve around our table just to avoid us. But the two people who ordered in French got their food before. Even though all I asked was for a salad and my associate asked for a sandwich. The fastest food you could make came out after a grueling 1 and a half hours of waiting. I have worked in the service industry for years and never in my life have I been disrespectful towards a customer no matter their background, country, ethnicity, gender, or race. Well, how to start. The place is great! Super cool decor and over all it is very hip or as the French say, "branché." This is what a good Parisian café should feel like and they have everything that you should expect a Paris café to have. Plus, there are lots of people there most of the time so that is an indication that they are doing what the people want. But isn't the majority is always wrong? After living here for 4 years - I generally try to find a cafe that goes beyond "Parisian" expectations. I (as a somewhat local customer) expect a limited beer selection and mediocre service, but I would be happier with great service and good beers. If it is going to be a wine bar, I want to have a wide selection that I can drink by the glass. Also, cafes that have decided to carry good coffee and not just industrial crap get bonus points. Otherwise it is just another cafe in Paris... But hey, what do I know? If you are here for a few days and want to get a good feel for what life is like in Paris in a place that really authentic and pretty cool on top of that, add this to your list. I come here every time I go to Paris and it's always a wonderful experience. There are two locations across from each other - they offer the same menu but I don't know if there are any significant differences. I've frequented the one on the north side of Rue St Sabin. As a tourist I was a bit intimidated about dining alone in Paris but I had nothing to worry about. I was offered a menu in English and throughout the meal the service was excellent. It was leisurely and I never felt rushed - I stayed for over two hours and it was lovely and memorable. I ordered the beef patty which was excellent but after looking at photos on here I'm sorry I didn't try the duck confit! The prices are very reasonable for Paris. Another repeat patron of this fantastic cafe/restaurant. The cozy French charm of this place, with its fast and friendly service, makes the experience a must-try. I got the Filet de bar twice here and the fish was cooked perfectly. Flaky, crispy, and flavorful. I inhaled it so fast that the guy sitting next to me turned and uttered "Bon Appetit!" with a wink. What can I say? The French really know how to perfect fish. The soup du jour (vegetable soup) was smooth, creamy, piping hot, and luscious, just what I needed on a rainy and cold Paris night. On my second visit, I braved the thought of slimy antennae and ordered the escargot as a starter. It was absolutely one of the most delicious things I've ever put in my mouth. I even sopped up the parsley/garlic butter sauce with the basket of baguette on the table. Trust me, things have to taste amazing for me to touch the bread on the table. And devour something that was once slimy and had antennae. On both visits the servers were consistently friendly and accommodating. I was graciously greeted immediately upon entering. Water, drinks, and food were delivered promptly to the table. They serve food all day, which helps when you're a weary jetlagged traveler and can't stay up till 8pm to eat a normal Parisian dinner. The atmosphere in the restaurant was really nice, the service was spectacular, and most importantly - the duck was amazing and well worth 16€! I came in at 3ish for a vin chaud (only 5€!) and stayed for a second, plus eggs with mayo. - Service was excellent (the server even teased me as I came in) - They have electrical sockets for recharging phones - Loved my delicious entrée and wine - Music started out big band/20's-40's (I'm guessing the era) and moved into chill French. This is a very comfortable cafe to visit for lunch, and to spend some time in. It's very affordable, the service is efficient and friendly and not rushed, and the food is solid, consisting of french classics, accompanied by inexpensive wines and decent coffee. I really liked the feel of the place, and I had the impression that this particularly cool ambiance could only be captured in this specific neighborhood of this great city. One strong impression I had while in this place is that the owner obviously appreciates females. Every single painting and picture on every wall in this cafe' is of an attractive female - not just modern women, but women from the past, women from France, and women from the colonies. I have to give Cafe de l'Indust four stars, not because the food or service is outstanding but because it is a great go-to. It's consistently good (nothing more, nothing less), extremely affordable and well adapted to group dinners or a tête-à-tête with a girlfriend. The service continu is extremely appreciated for a late lunch, an apéro with a shared appetizer, or an early dinner before going out. This is one of my favorite places to bring out of town guests since there is a solid array of traditional french dishes (confit de canard has never disappointed). The decor and atmosphere is also very un-american (not sure that it's typically french, it's more "cantine-y") which seems to please out-of-towners. Lots of inexpensive wines by the glass, pitcher or bottle are available including your run-of-the-mill and the step-aboves of several french regions. Good list of apéritifs and difestifs as well. Ok, service slow because the poor girls are a bit overworked with enormous sections, but hey, they're generally pretty friendly. read more

Went to Cafe de L'Industrie with some friends who are locals, and regulars on a Saturday night. I can see what they like about the place - buzzing atmosphere, cool decor, cheap and cheerful menu...the perfect combo for a local restaurant. Sadly the service was not so cheerful - our surly waitress was less than charming from the start - although the place was packed so we went with it. But after she failed to bring us the water we had asked for five times, leaving two of us at the table with nothing to drink for almost 30 mins, I decided to take matters into my own hands. When I spied a jug full of cold water sitting on service stand for the waitresses to serve from I figured I'd save her a trip and grab two glasses of water to relieve our thirst. To my surprise the waitress shouted at me that I should put that down immediately or "she would get into trouble"! I mentioned our lack of hydration and she told me that it was "a busy night and she'd quite like a glass of water too". This was a fair point - it was so hot inside that the walls were dripping with condensation - but I did think it unfair given she was working and I was paying for my food (why not serve yourself one when you serve customers...?). When I mentioned as much I was informed that "given the prices you are paying, you shouldn't expect all that much"! As for the food - the pork my boyfriend had was overcooked and tough, my gratin was cold in the center (not microwaved enough...?), and the bread was stale. All in all a most enlightening evening in Paris - a city where I am generally prepared to accept snide comments and smarmy waiters when the food is above par, but to be honest this down at heel local doesn't serve mind-blowing food so I'm not sure what the appeal is.. read more

They named this restaurant well. It's in a gritty neghborhood. The inside is dimly lit and has a 1930s era industrial feel. It's off the beaten path, so don't expect to run into many tourists. My partner and I popped in to enjoy the all-day Sunday brunch, and were pleased to discover that it was not only reasonable (unless incredibly famished, a brunch can be easily shared between two), but delicious. I had been to the Café de l'Industrie on a number of occasions, but mostly for lunch or a quick café/drink. First came the brioche, coupled with butter and jam, and then the main plate (you can choose between bacon/sausage with potatoes and eggs, or the salmon plate). We chose the scrambled eggs and salmon, paired with a small spinach salad, beets, potatoes and a dill cream sauce. To finish, the dessert of the day, which happened to be a fromage blanc sprinkled with honey and roasted almonds. And the drinks? Tea or coffee and a glass of freshly-squeezed orange juice. This café (like its sister café across the street, with the same name but red façade) is always teeming with regulars who live/work in the area. While in Paris (early June 2013), my friends took me here for authentic traditional French cuisine. I got one of the duck dishes, foie gras maybe, and it came with potatoes and a honey sauce. Delish! My friends also got the same duck dish and the lamb dish. All were amazing, along with the apple fritter with ice cream dessert and the molten chocolate cake.
