In a week of hitting a dozen or more cafes throughout Paris, I think this was my favorite. Centrally located on Rue Cler (hence the name), we found the servers to be incredibly friendly and the bathrooms clean. We weren't rushed, and even on a day that was somewhat cool, we all enjoyed sitting outside, drinking coffee, and whiling away the hours. I highly recommend the thick and sumptuous chocolat chaud (hot chocolate), which is melted chocolate not from a mix at all. read more

Yes, it caters to tourists, they have an English menu, but don't fault them for being being accommodating and gracious to the visitors. Our servers were not only friendly, but incredibly efficient and professional. Our favorite thing was the escargot and be warned, the cheese plate is very generous and more than enough for 2 people. My son said they had the best frites around the neighborhood. We stopped in for a drink or a meal while in the neighborhood and were always welcomed whether we ordered in French or English. (Always try to order in French first anywhere though)! A reliable local option. Don't expect Alain Ducasse, just know it's a neighborhood spot and it is good for what it is. read more

Walked in here tonight and they were pleasant enough. The really drunk guy at the bar repeatedly telling his name to my wife was bad enough. But the €20 hamburger was enough for us to move on down the road. The food here may well be great but the prices are designed to screw the tourists. read more

The waiter cheated us!!!!!! As soon as we walked into the waiter was very sarcastic! He insisted we were getting "The best table in Paris". The table was in the corner next to baby chairs with a direct view of the toilets. He overcharged us for the wine, insisted we have dessert, which was mediocre. Then he told us the service was not included and that we needed to add 15%. We found out after paying that the service was included and that he had cheated us. It is too bad that he is perpetuating the stereotype that Parisian waiters are rude. read more

The place is located in the very nice Rue Cler. When you are seated outside it gives you the impression of being in a little town. I recommend the "God Save The Queen". The waiter was really pleasant. read more

Generally good food and even better atmosphere, but a bit overpriced for what you get. A friend of mine lived only a few minutes from Cafe Central so we found ourselves there a few times. I was never disappointed by the food, but there are so many absolutely wonderful places in Paris that are a bigger bang for your buck that I feel comfortable giving this one only three stars. Bottom line: Cafe Central will not disappoint, you will have a good meal, but you probably could have had a better one somewhere else. Check out the bakery across the street if you do make it out to rue Cler, though-- YUM! read more

Best meal ever. We had two goals when stopping in Paris for a day - see the tower and find a great café. We choose this one and it was amazing. We tried an expensive glass of "Rouge" wine and wow! Every thing they brought out - bread, olives, steak, custom pepper sauce, potatoes, scallion pasta- was phenomenal. The flavor was incredible. The service was over the top. After a full morning/afternoon of touring, we stopped for a light, late lunch on our way back to our favorite hotel, Relais Bosquet. I had one of my favorites, tomato with buffalo mozzarella salad. Even though the tomato were not in season, my salad was very good. The other meals were also good, an omelette du fromage, cooked perfectly, and two croquet msrs. We thought the service and staff were excellent ( a bit of a surprise). Overall it was a little pricey (beer was 9e, salad was 14e), but competitive for the neighborhood. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Cafe Central on rue Cler (which itself is a charming street devoid of most motor vehicles). Unlike some other reviewers who have noted poor service, our waiter was friendly and attentive, no issues at all! The caprese appetizer was nicely presented and very good, as were main courses of the salad with ham (prosciutto) and the tartare of salmon and cod (very very good). Best risotto I've ever had!!! Cute cafe on a pedestrian street with romantic outdoor seating. Our waiter was a typical Parisian server (from an American standpoint) but we got a kick out of watching him interact with other patrons. The food was poor, small portion and over priced (17 euro for a 6 inch pizza) and the omelet was very chewy. The service was slow and and when the bill came The waitress tried to double up on the tip that was included in the bill by saying it was not, and I gave her an additional 10 euro which she wanted in cash saying that was the way the restaurant operated. read more

I stopped in here one rainy evening after walking all day. It was right on the corner by my hotel and I was looking for a burger and they did not disappoint. I had the Central Burger and just loved it. I was able to sit outside and stay dry and warm thanks to the great waiters that took care of everything even though it was packed.
