The staff were extremely rude and dismissive throughout my visit. The way I was spoken to felt disrespectful, and I left with a bad impression. I initially tried to give them the benefit of the doubt since I arrived close to closing time and assumed they might simply be tired after a long day. However, what really made me decide to leave was my concern about hygiene. I observed a staff member appearing to pick their nose and then continue handling sweets without washing their hands. Whether intentional or not, it was enough to make me completely lose confidence in the cleanliness standards of the shop. There are several other sweet shops just a short walk away that offer similar products at better prices and provide a much more welcoming customer experience. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this place and would suggest looking elsewhere. read more

Came here for breakfast & was not disappointed - I got the salmon bagel with avocado and cream cheese... so good. I was surprised it came with a side of fries, but those were very good as well. The service was friendly and didn't take too long, and the atmosphere was cozy and comfortable too. Sadly I didn't have enough time to visit this place more than once while I was visiting Paris, but I would have liked to. So I can't say much on the other food there, but all the food the people around me ordered looked super delicious as well. read more

Already a great start thanks to my friends at Malabar! We JUST got to Paris! The ride from the airport to our place was long, a lot of stop and go due to construction. So, the Mrs. isn't feeling the greatest. I told her I'll run out and grab something small to put on your stomach. Right on the corner is the Malabar. Why not? I go inside and am informed that the kitchen doesn't open for half an hour. But, if you want a croissant or something that's fine. In the most broken French I say I just need something for my wife. The young lady so NO! We will make you ANYTHING you want. You want an omelette or something. I tell her the croissant and cafe are fine. She insists that they will do anything I need. I tell her I'll take the croissants and cafes BUT I will see them for lunch when we head to do some sightseeing. The croissants were light, fluffy and buttery and the cafe was spot on. We found this gem because it was close to our hotel room. It was our first cafe in Paris and it did not disappoint. We stopped in for breakfast and had croissants, baguettes and espresso. It was beyond words. The staff knew enough English to help us along and we're super friendly. We liked this place so much we decided to go back for drinks and again service was really great. They did a cheese and meat plate for us( it wasn't on the menu but they made it for us anyway). It was fantastic!!!! We left Paris and we just loved this place. We highly recommend it. read more

There's a scene in the Steve Martin version of The Pink Panther where he's given an American cheeseburger and turns his nose up at it, but as soon as he takes a bite he's immediately in raptures and ends up (hilariously) getting arrested at the airport for trying to smuggle cheeseburgers stuffed in his pockets. Because of that scene I had the impression that the French were not into burgers, so imagine my surprise when I found myself in a similar situation at Malabar. I can't remember what exactly my burger had on it but I inhaled it and wanted to lick the plate clean. We dilly-dallied on leaving the hotel and ended up getting there around 10, fortunately they were still serving. It was really cute and cozy inside but felt way too warm for me so we opted to sit at one of the small tables outside, which was nice because they had heat lamps right above. Service was a little slow but the waiter was super nice. There was also a great cocktail list. We'll definitely stop by next time we're in Paris! read more

Don't come here. I ordered a chicken burger and half way through I noticed the meat was raw so I called the waiter and they told me that it's not raw and it's just the type of chicken they use. I explained to them and showed them that the meat was clearly raw but the waiter refused to accept it and just said I can't explain it because my English is bad. Worst service ever and the food is awful. The chicken was bland, the fries were soggy and unseasoned, the avocado was not fresh, the burger bun was worse than a fast food restaurant and I had to pay €20 for a raw chicken burger. What's with Parisian restaurants being hostile to Americans while serving mediocre American food? I ordered the only non-American item, beef tartare, which was served as warm, raw meat that they use for the burgers along with cold fries. My boyfriend got sick from the salmon tartare. Another review pointed out that there is no kitchen, just a toaster situation at the bar. I saw my prepared "tartare" sit on the bar counter for over 15 minutes before we were ready for the second course. read more

Was wonderfully Parisian. Felt dim and comfortable and was a great place to duck in out of the cold. The brunch was good. The chicken Caesar was mild, so avoid if you like a more pungent dish. Service was good and the space was super cozy. read more

I came here for a coffee date because I live very near to it. I ordered the hot chcolate and was given a cup of milk and a giant tin of cocoa powder. You're going to charge me 5€ for hot chcolate that I have to make myself? I could have gone to Franprix across the street and spent half that. Then the table behind us had to move so they could empty the trash cans 6 inches from them. The smell really was quite lovely. I thought about ordering food but the "kitchen" is a little area next to the bar that's about 1m2. It had a burner and a toaster oven. I refuse to spend 20€ on a burger from a toaster oven. Based on the look of the "kitchen" I would not suggest any kind of food that goes beyond slices of cheese and cold cuts. read more

Avoid. This is clearly a tourist rip-off joint - service ignorant and indifferent. Main course of chèvre chaud was ok but lettuce had a crunchy unwashed texture. For dessert we ordered a tiramisu which was rancid (sour mascarpone), so we had one bite and sent it back. Proprietor continued to charge us the 8.50€ for it, shouting across the restaurant in French, "You ordered it, so you have to pay for it". We found this place after an evening spent wandering around the 7eme arrondissement and realizing we should eat before it got late. The menu looked about right in terms of price and selection, and so we went in. The staff was patient with my beginner's French and maintained that European balance of attention while not hovering over the table every few minutes - for Americans, being left alone takes some getting used to, but it's nice once you adapt. We ordered the cheese plate and the charcuterie plate, which were (in accordance with the menu) generous enough to share and which each had some interesting selections. The beer selection was minimal (I have heard that France, and especially Paris, is undergoing a beer renaissance but I saw almost no evidence of it), and the wine list looked decent though I am not much of a wine drinker so take that with a grain of salt. The coffee was on par in terms of price, quality and serving size, which I feel is important to mention after having found some cafes which would charge 5 euro for a demitasse of espresso. read more

This place has great ambiance and an awesome cocktail menu. We stopped in for a few drinks at the bar before dinner elsewhere and really enjoyed our time there. It's intimate but upbeat with a cool vibe. Nice little neighborhood spot. The bartender was fun to watch as he mixed drinks. 1st cafe/bar meal in Paris and so far the best. My wife and I split the caprese salad (which she claims is the best she's ever had and it's hard to disagree!), sliders with frites and a carafe of red wine.
