Pho for the soul We ordered takeout pho since we've been under the weather. I got the chicken while my husband got the beef and meatballs. I appreciate that everything was packaged separately and with care. The broth was thin and nourishing and not overpowering which was nice to be able to savor the flavors of everything else in the pho. The place is super tiny so I think it's mostly a takeout spot. Probably one of my favorite Vietnamese food places within the Twin Cities area, if not my favorite, and the entire vibe, which is definitely hole in the wall, allows one to know that their food has got to be good. While I have only ordered a few items from them so far, I have found them all to be great and worth a try for sure. Everything ranging from the spring rolls, which had an abundant amount of items including pork and shrimp, to the bun bo hue had been authentically on point. The bun bo hue was probably the spiciest one I have had anywhere, and it contained a good amount of flavor. I was given a lot of meat of various types in it, including the kinds of pork that I didn't eat. I still appreciated the courtesy, though, despite not eating it. The pho wasn't in a large bowl, but the bowl itself was filled with all kinds of ingredients from meat to noodles, and of course, had broth that contained an abundant amount of flavor. Towards the end, I was also given free Ferrero Rochers, which I also appreciated. I have been here several times and the chocolate wasn't a guarantee every time, so just a heads up there, but it's okay since I wasn't expecting them to begin with. Compact Viet- Chinese carry out. Along a strip with tight parking, this place is easily missed, but would be a fun addition if you aren't in the mood to cook. Dined in here during lunch, but not really a place to do that. It has a total of about 3 tables. Most of the orders are carry out for a good reason. 12. Special pho. I normally skipped the meatballs and order extra tendon. This broth was very meaty and flavorful. The tendons were very soft and meat tender. Would order again for sure! 82. Wish I could leave a higher number. The reopening is wonderful. At least 3 times the seating space with a nice facelift to the inside but still all the great food you'd expect. this place is small but packs a big flavor. I was introduced to it by some co-wokers. I am new to the Pho outside of minneapolis scene. I was suprised by the flavor at this spot. It's not the rare thin sliced beef in cooking temp broth but it's gots it's own charm. The bowl is very Onion forward, spring and white onion. They don't have tap water so you will pay .50 for a bottle of water. the location has 3 tables of 4 stools. the food comes out fast. the condiments are what you would expect. We all got Pho so I can't comment on any other menu items. the service was fast and no nonsense. Plus it's so small that the server is never far away. I would recomend. read more

I'll always appreciate a good family-owned location, and Cadao Express is a great one. Though it's a bit far from home, my friends and I try to walk down at least every couple weeks in the summer! While the location is nestled into a bit of an awkward little mall, the delicious food and kind owners make up for it. You'll always be greeted with a smile and excitement as somebody is ready to take care of you. While the quality of individual dishes can vary, I definitely recommend grabbing an egg roll every time you visit! They're enormous, affordable, and some of the best snacks I've ever eaten. read more

Sadly, I do not have any pictures because I was just in there enjoying the food! I have ordered take-out from here once before but I actually dined in this time. This is a little bit more of a hole in the wall type of place, but honestly, it is SO SO GOOD. The springrolls are amazing and fresh, served with a nice light peanut sauce that is not too sweet (which is a rare thing!) Also, the pho is incredible. The broth is delicious, light, fresh, comforting, soothing and everything in between. The chicken is perfectly cooked, fresh and tasty. All of the veggies are fresh and crispy. Definitely a place to get take-out from or even if you fee like dining in. The service is impeccable and the the people that work there are so sweet and quick! I decided to get the freshest food to go and order in person. Big mistake. No one at this place speaks a word of English. I tried to order A noodle dish and the person at the front desk kept pointing to PHO I told her at least ten times I didn't want PHO and what I wanted and guess what..I got some kind of soup that I didn't want and just went hungry instead. I also fell on the way out as they didn't shovel or put salt down on the sidewalk. I cant say if the food is any good or not as they didnt give me what I ordered. read more

Wow. So good. Total hole in wall. Think street food stools in Vietnam. But so, so yummy. Skip the Chinese side of menu and go straight to the pho's. All are so good. And they give you plate of bean sprouts, fresh basil leaves, fresh cut jalapeños and limes to add to taste. Ignore the decor, go here to eat the food. Ya'll it's really good. I tried Pho Tai (shaved beef) and it was delicious. All the flavors I expect in there and you can tell it was made with love. All the fixins came with it and I was a happy camper. We also tried several of the Chinese dishes on the menu and everything was shockingly good! The inside of this tiny place is basically just 2 tables, so we got the food to go but everything was well packaged and the man who helped me was very kind. I will def be back! read more

Very tiny restaurant with only 4 tables. Decided to eat there, because luckily it was just me. Definitely perfect for takeout. Based on the reviews ordered something other than pho. The photos people had of the pho the broth looked too fatty for me. I like my broth clean and clear. Ordered the bún riêu and spring rolls. Both were great. Tasted like what my grandma makes. All the employees were questioning if I'm Vietnamese and didn't realize I could understand the whole time. Haha Gave them a great tip, because they said I'm pretty. Spring roll is fresh tasting with savory peanut sauce. Beef Pho was ok, helped along by the basil and jalapenos on the accompanying plate, but I opted for adding hoisin and some sriracha to up the flavor. Green is the hot tea offered, bagged in a cup. Vietnamese coffee was iced, not expected but tasty. Owner said this meal was $48. (!?!?) I challenged him, he was gracious about his error. Still $29 for 1 for lunch, before tip. Tiny place on Penn (don't worry-there's parking in front/side/behind the building). Small tables since most of their business is to-go orders. We ate in & enjoyed our experience! Service was quick and efficient, our food came out as it was cooked. I enjoyed the Bun Bo Xao Sa (Vietnamese Bowl-lemongrass beef): tangy/spicy nuc baum sauce over vermicelli noodles and tender chunks of beef cooked with lemongrass. I even learned how to pronounce the dish in Vietnamese (thanks to my server). The Vietnamese Coffee was spot on: rich coffee flavor infused with the creamy goodness of the sweetened condensed milk. My sister enjoyed her Eggroll Rice Vermicelli Bun. I would love to come back here during warmer weather and eat pho outside on the little table! read more

I'd recommend ordering to go. There's literally three tables in this place...and they suggest sharing tables if there's not enough space. Just what I want--the prison dining experience. They were also very stingy with the sauce--you get tiny cups for the egg rolls and they seemed hesitant to give us more. With that said, the pho is pretty damn good. The broth had strong flavor and there was plenty of scallions, cilantro, basil, etc. My friend that was with me commented that they are closefisted with the noodles. Seeing as that's a rather cheap part of the meal, I'd think they could throw some more in. Egg rolls are bias cut but are filled generously. Glass noodles in any egg roll gets a big thumbs up from me. The server is a bit odd. Also, there's no free water from what I can ascertain--you're paying 50¢ for a 9¢ bottle. That's cheap too! I feel like they really would prefer you didn't eat the food there. Also, if its towards closing, they only do takeout. read more

I can only comment on the pho since I haven't tried anything else. It's just ok pho. The soup is a bit on the oily side...though I don't mind it so much since the flavor is there. It's not bland but not exactly full of flavors either. I ordered pho tai. It came with plenty of meat. I only wish they had given more noodles. It's a bit pricier than other pho places; however, being that it is in Richfield and only a 3 min drive from my place I can't complain too much. This place is more of a takeout, as there are only three small tables and can probably fit less than 10 people comfortably. read more

It was OK. I had the Bun Bo Hue, so I suppose I can only speak for this one dish. However, I did come to Cadao probably 5 years ago and sort of remember walking away with the same feeling. So, the Bun Bo Hue had a really great broth flavor and was the only highlight of the dish. The noodles were good, but I didn't feel there were nearly enough to constitute for a $9 dollar dish. The beef was very tough and I ended up having to shove huge pieces in my mouth, chew for a couple minutes, and then spit out excess beef that I couldn't swallow. Aside from the mediocre dish, the food did come in a timely manner, which was appreciated. However, the customer service was almost nonexistent... But I have been to enough Chinese restaurants to expect little when it comes to customer service. I probably won't come back. Not because the food was awful, but because it wasn't great. Additional notes: Very limited parking and VERY limited seating (they have around 5 tables that can squeeze ~4 person/table). read more

This little gem in a strip mall along Penn Av in Richfield is a not so much a well kept secret...and deservedly so. A friend and I visited this hot spot for a weekday lunch. The owner greeted us promptly and asked if we wanted to sit outside on such a nice day and took our drink orders. Theres something about an outdoor table on a busy street, cool breeze and sun shining.... that allows for is just so much fun. Great people and driver watching! We started with Vietnamese egg rolls and a refreshing salad. The egg rolls were chock full solid of tasty pork and vegetables....and not greasy... but just the right amount of slick, moist and crunchy. A light dipping sauce complimented nicely. The small salad was super fresh and refreshing with Thai basil, bean sprouts, lime and slices of jalapeño. I had the Vegetable Lo Mein and while it lacked a good amount of veggies (a few tiny broccoli only), the noodles and sauce with the crunchy green were delish. Would have liked to see more veggies though! My friend had the Beef Pho which looked, smelled (and as he reported), tasted great along with a nice selection of accompaniments (lime, bean sprouts and peppers). Pho is a specialty here. We left happy and sated and looked after with care but subtle attention. It was so good I ordered another Lo Mein to take out to another friend. Perfect. While a few tables are stationed inside, I recommend outside -weather permitting - not only for distancing and protection, but for fresh air and sun. I had a phase where I wanted pho almost every day this past fall. Who am I kidding? I still want pho all day, every day. Cadao is located pretty close to work for me so it was easy to stop by and grab some food to take home. Netflix and pho- the new thing. Their space is small, like really small. There's only 4 tables but I've found a lot of people opt to get their food to go so I've never had to wait for a table. The staff is great here, the owner will remember if you come by a few times and will joke around with you. Also, just a note: they technically close at 8 but start to close up shop and only serve pho after 7. I've been here a few times so I've had the chance to try a couple of things (pho, bun bo hue, rice vermicelli salad, etc). Nothing that I've had has disappointed me but nothing has blown me away either. My general stance on the food is that it's good and will satisfy your cravings. I wouldn't drive out of my way to come here, but if I'm close by it's a good option. read more

Mmm, delicious, flavorful, and authentic pho! Portions were very generous, too. I had the spicy beef vermicelli, and it came with very large chunks of beef. My fiance had the beef pho, which he said also had pretty good flavor (not the best) and generous portions. He also said that his soup wasn't hot enough, though, so the bean sprouts and mint he added to it didn't cook well. Seating is limited, but the place was very clean. They kind of rush you off after you eat, which I guess is understandable considering the limited space. Also, you get two pieces of chocolate for dessert. Yum! read more
