Hi friends who love to hang out at Alki! This used to be one of my favorites, but my recent visit was kind of disappointing. A few of us went this weekend, and honestly, it wasn't great. I've had the Busker Burrito before and that is delicious -- I still love it, and one of my friends ordered it again and said it was still solid. So, shoutout to that dish! But I tried the brunch tacos because they were recommended. Supposedly it was supposed to come with steak and bacon, but mine only had steak. The steak itself had a weird taste, and the tacos just didn't have much flavor at all. I was bummed because I didn't want to risk trying something totally new -- I thought this would be safe, but nope. No one checked in to ask how things were, so I just ate what I could. About halfway through, my friend pointed out how dead the place was for a Saturday... and then it clicked: everyone else was probably at the other Mexican spot down the street, which was packed when we walked by after. That stung, because I really want to root for this place. Also -- the setup was a little weird now. No hostess, you just seat yourself, scan a QR code, and eventually a server comes around. Years ago I used to frequent Cactus on Alki Beach when I worked nearby. It was great then and happily it still is! A friend and I went for a weekday lunch. It was fairly quiet. We sat by the window and enjoyed the view and people watching. I ordered the quesabirria tacos and my friend had the green enchiladas. Our dishes were delicious! The flan was ooooh so good! The service was wonderful. The only drawback to Cactus is parking is a challenge once the weather gets nice. read more

A reliably nice and good restaurant to eat at on Alki Beach - I've been dropping in for years. The chimichangas and butternut squash enchiladas are favorites. I like the regular margarita the best but if I'm feeling fancy I go for one of their slushies. View is beautiful - try sitting outside. I generally like sitting in the bar area as there are more windows but the restaurant area is just fine. Service is generally good but if they are slammed (as they can be on unexpectedly nice Alki days) prepare to be patient. Good news - they have a Yelp wait list that works well! read more

First time at this location and I can say that the staff is beyond friendly. Nobody asks how your day is anymore or cares. The food was great! The beans were something else as well as the drinks. The manager came up and asked how we were and dropped off flan which truly was the best flan we had ever had. Set up this account just so I can tell everyone just how bad this place is. We made reservations for yesterday evening, dinner. When we arrived, we were told it would be another 20 minutes. 40 minutes later, we were told another 20 minutes. In total, we waited almost an hour PAST our reservation time to be seated. We should have walked away at that point, as the choice to stay led to an even worse time. It was easily 15 minutes before the server bothered to acknowledge us, and even then, barely put down our waters before saying "I have to go" and he took off. Not to be seen again for another 15 minutes. We had to flag done one of the many bussers to get our server. When our server finally graced us with his presence, he gave me an attitude when I asked for a real, physical menu. I do not believe in scanning a QR code to see the menu--that's BS. Offering me a menu is part of the presentation, part of why I pay outrageous prices when I eat out. When I asked for the menu, he points to the QR code and says "is this not good enough for you?" No, sir, it is not. And if it were, I wouldn't be asking for a menu! The food was as horrid as the service. My chicken fajitas were burned onto the bottom of the cast iron pan. I had to physically scrape the damn thing to get any food off of it. The chicken was not seasoned, tasted like they just grabbed a chicken breast from the fridge and threw it on the grill. Absolutely no flavor other than BURNT. I got three corn tortillas for a large order of fajitas. THREE. Is this some kind of a joke? My partner got a chimichanga that was the size of a two Gino's pizza rolls. I'm not even kidding. They should have called it a "Quarter Chimi" on the menu. How embarrassing for this place! When I asked for some salsa to wash down this dry, burnt, inedible thing they call food in this restaurant, I wasn't brought any salsa at all. I was brought three bottles of hot sauce. I didn't ask for hot sauce. I asked for salsa. Do they not know the difference? OH and did I mention that YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR CHIPS & SALSA???? Yes, folks, a restaurant named Cactus that serves Mexican food makes you pay $6 for chips and salsa. Something every Mexican establishment just automatically brings to your table. Isn't that one of the things we love about Mexican restaurants, the chips and salsa that just arrives at the table without asking? Cactus states on its menu that it is "Tex/Mex" and that it is "not traditional". I guess calling oneself Tex/Mex is supposed to take them off the hook for: 1) bad service, 2) horrible food, and 3) eye watering prices for what you get. My advice: RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! There are many other, better places to eat on the same street and in the nearby vicinity. These people don't know how to serve, don't know how to cook, and certainly don't know how to offer their patrons a good experience. When we eat out, aren't we doing it for the food, service, and experience? If not that, I can stay at home and make a better plate of food. SHAME ON YOU, CACTUS! CHALLENGE: I dare the management to respond to this review and offer to make this right. When we were done, the manager came over and introduced himself and visited with us and brought us an incredibly decadent dessert because he found out it was our first time there. We started with the guacamole flight, and wow--every flavor was fresh, unique, and absolutely delicious. For our mains, we ordered the brisket burrito and smash tacos, and both were packed with flavor and creativity. You can tell real care and thought goes into every dish here. But what made the experience truly stand out was the service--every single person who came to our table was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. Very disappointed in the service that I received this Saturday morning. We arrived probably about 10 : 05. There was no wait time and it wasn't crowded . This is one of my mom's favorite restaurants. We ordered drinks and it took like 20 minutes. To be honest, I didn't feel welcomed in a restaurant. Ordered my mom's favorite drink. The hibiscus chichi and I had the cactus coffee. We ordered the summer soup which came out cold. It was not good. The waitress so let her know my soup was cold. One thing that I did appreciate was that the manager allowed me to modify my dish which was very appreciated. We ordered the chicken fried chicken and waffles. I modified mine to the French toast. My mom wanted coffee with her meal and the waitress wasn't nowhere to be found. I noticed the manager went over and let her know that my soup was cold and then my mom was able to order coffee at that time . Our waitress delivered the coffee and I let her know I was ready for the check and I needed to to-go boxes . It took her close to 25 to 30 minutes to come back to the table. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be returning. The vibe was just not the same. We drove a great distance to get here. It's just sad that we really didn't enjoy our meal. read more

I ordered the Carne Asada, Traditional Guac, and the Prickly Pear drink, and everything was amazing. The carne asada, cooked medium rare, was perfectly seasoned and incredibly juicy. The sides of chile lime corn and refried black beans complemented the dish really well. The non-alcoholic Prickly Pear drink was delicious, with a perfect balance of sweetness and tanginess from the grapefruit and lemon. Everything is made in-house - even the tortillas - and the guac was excellent. Service was top-notch. Our server was attentive and made sure our water was always refilled. It's a cute spot in the Alki area of Seattle. Sitting on the corner, it has indoor and outdoor seating. It has a bar with numerous in-house drinks. We went in and sat right away. As time went on, the place became busier and busier. It's a hip, fun spot. We started with drinks, and they were delicious. The variety of tequila drinks was terrific, and there were so many options. We tried several, and they were all so good! We had the nachos, and we ate them all. I saw several people with the nachos: Monterey Jack cheese, roasted corn, black olives, jalapeños, pico de gallo, charred tomato salsa, buttermilk crema, guacamole, and your choice of protein. The green enchiladas were tasty and full of flavor. Served on organic blue corn tortillas with shredded chicken, Monterey Jack cheese, tomatillo salsa, and sour cream. We also really enjoyed tbe tortilla soup. It reminded me of a bisque (thicker) texture rather than a soupy texture. It flavorful and had shredded chicken, ancho chiles, and fire-roasted tomatoes, fresh avocado, chopped cilantro, and blue corn tortilla strips. Bowl served with fresh housemade corn masa sopes, which were amazing! The staff was friendly and followed up to see how we were doing.
