While I did not experience the ambiance at Grape Leaf Diner today, I can say from a past visit that the atmosphere is clean, bright with lots of windows, and with comfortable chairs and booths. The restaurant is located near or within a small strip mall at the Holland, OH location. (The Grape Leaf Express location in Toledo, OH located on Monroe St near Franklin Park Mall is also in a strip mall.) The food ordered today included chicken shawarma, yellow rice with vegetables (green beans, corn and peas), hummus, pita bread, and a Greek salad. There was also a dish of grilled vegetables that included squash and zucchini. While I didn't want to be rude and photograph food in the middle of the party, I took some screenshots posted by the restaurant to give you an idea of the food presentation. The salad ingredients were very fresh and delicious. Hummus was perfectly flavored. I always wish that Mediterranean rice had more vegetables, though it was delicious. I found the chicken shawarma a bit salty, but I'm salt-sensitive, so most people probably would love it; the meat was lean. As for the zucchini and squash vegetables, they looked delicious but we didn't have plastic knives, and I couldn't manage to cut them or eat them with the plastic forks. It was a beautiful presentation and I recommend that you give this restaurant a try! A tip for summer weather: the A/C was cranked up high when I was last there... maybe bring a jacket or sweater if you tend to run cold.

Secondly, I would like to thank our waitress, Mandy. She was AMAZING!!! Super kind, easy going, and fun! She did her very best as the place was packed. That being said what I'm going to say next has no ill will toward her at all and I wish she would go work at a different establishment because she does not deserve to work at this place. 10/10 recommend Mandy! Lastly, the massive attitude waitress (blonde girl, walking around with a tablet) was HORRIBLE!!!! I ordered 2 sex on the beaches for my friend and I. I took a sip and immediately just tasted grenadine. I had asked if she could check my drink because it tasted as if it had no alcohol in it at all and she said "it has alcohol in it, you just can't taste it very much, if you want another shot in it you'll have to pay for it." Mind you I paid $20 for those 2 drinks and her attitude was outrageous, rolling her eyes at me and walking away cocky when I said "no thanks" to the additional shots. Also, the food was disgusting. We ordered the chicken tenders and fries. The fries were burnt and cold on the inside. The chicken was okay but definitely crispier than they should have been. -5/10 on this establishment and the tablet girl working on Monday April 6th. You will not find me going back.

Damn near a hit. if they could just get the kitchen together regarding temperature and consistency. They would be slaying. Let's talk about what is good... The environment. It just feels like a place you want to sit down and eat a rack of ribs. It's clean, modern, and inviting. It is cool to see what they have done with the old black pearl. Our waitress was excellent! She was fast, attentive, and warm. I can't speak enough about the service. From the moment we sat down until the moment we left, we were truly waited on. We had drinks, we had our food extremely fast, and even when there was an issue with our meal, the manager came right over. (I didn't ask, the waitress brought her over when she noticed our untouched ribs and potato) If our food had been as warm as our staff, they would probably be sitting on closer to five stars Let's talk about the gumbo. The flavor was great! However, the rice inside of it was severely undercooked. It was crunchy in places. Some of it was cooked, however, there were multiple clumps of uncooked (I can't even call it undercooked) rice. And it wasn't hot. My husband can eat piping hot food, I am talking about tea right out of the kettle... But I am not so fortunate. I started to blow on the soup and he laughed at me and said it wouldn't be necessary. To be fair, it was his gumbo, but he was right. It wasn't hot. It was barely a notch above warm, which makes me concerned about things like foodborne illness. But because the sausage, the chicken, and the roux were so damn good. I ate around it and decided to risk it. Next out, the ribs and brisket combo and my husband's wings. The wings were great. Zero notes except they flew off the bone into my husband's mouth faster than I could even get to my food. The brisket wasn't hot, but I don't expect it to be after it's rested so I will give that a free pass. My baked potato couldn't melt the butter. I also gave that a free pass since I planned on taking it home. But when I dug into my ribs, they were cold. And I don't mean warm, I mean cold. The surface was warm but by the bone was like they were out of the refrigerator. They had a decent flavor, but when ribs are that cold, they are a bit tough. Our waitress brought out a fresh rack, but by then I had already eaten my way through half of my husband soup, part of his meal, and my brisket so I ate one knuckle and took the rest home. I would come back for the atmosphere, the wait staff, and the flavor... But I hope execution gets cleaned up because I probably wouldn't come back a third time if I had a similar experience. I love eating local, and I hope they have a better run than the black pearl. The portions are generous, the pricing is more than fair. They do a lot of daily and happy hour as well as late night specials. Also, when I go to a barbecue spot, I want a bread option. I know this is me being a spoiled carb princess... But nothing sets me up for a good meal like some cornbread or dinner rolls. Lastly, I hope they end up bottling and selling some of their sauces locally. Their Carolina mustard base barbecue was stellar and the hot barbecue just as good.

This is a mixed review…read more So our family dined here on July 9th, we ordered a couple pick-2's, one ordered a soup, another ordered a sandwich, another the shells 'n cheese. The good things: We realized as we were bringing the food to the table, that what was desired was not what was served. I checked the receipt and the food prepared matched the receipt exactly. So shame on us for not double-checking the order/receipt. I asked for a change (upgrading a soup size), being willing to pay any up-charges. The gentleman was kind enough to just give us the upgraded soup. The food was good, everyone was satisfied with the taste and quality. The time spent waiting was reasonable. Price was within expectation for Panera. The not-so-good things: The bathrooms needed cleaning. If I had no sense of smell, I would have merely noticed some minor pick-ups with the paper towels. But since my taste/smell work just fine, I had to hold my breath while in the men's room. My wife also noticed the ladies room as needing work too. The floors in the dining area needed vacuuming big-time. Thankfully I'm not eating off of the floors. So I give the food/service 4.5/5 stars, the baths, 2/5, dining area 3/5.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by friendly wait staff and shown to our reserved table. The ambiance is upscale with dim lighting. We were there for a book club luncheon and the restaurant wasn't busy or noisy, which was perfect for us. The menu offered a nice variety of options. While the restaurant is known for barbecue and pizza, most of us ordered sandwiches and salads. Our server seemed to be very new, but was polite and pleasant. She was on top of drink refills, which was good because Coke and Iced Tea were $3.00. Funny thing but someone in our party ordered a gin and tonic and that also was $3.00. Our food orders were slow to come out and our server couldn't keep track of who ordered what, which wasn't a big deal since we were a group of approximately ten. Not all orders came out at once, so some were eating and some were waiting. I ordered a veggie burger with cheese and a side of ranch. When the plate came out, there was no cheese or ranch dressing. Our server took my plate back to the kitchen and I also requested a slice of tomato. I found the veggie burger very bland but edible. The fries were plentiful but I only ate a couple. Nobody raved about the food but I didn't hear any complaints either. A lot of our group took home leftovers. When the checks came, we learned that 22% gratuity had been added to each check because we were a large table. I also learned that the cheese for my veggie burger had an upcharge of .99 for the cheese and.50 for the ranch dressing. We enjoyed our discussion and socializing in a nice ambiance. I was underwhelmed by my meal, so wouldn't run back anytime soon. If I were to dine here again, I'd probably try the pizza. A photo of my veggie burger is posted below.
