The initial service was just plain odd. Apparently you're supposed to make a reservation though that wasn't clear. Ran out of water no refills x2. Waited 35 minutes for food. Others sat down and ate right away. Odd. Chips and salsa were oily and rather tasteless. No refills on chips and salsa. Who does that?! Cheap owners. Food took 35 minutes and was frankly disgusting visually. Drenched in excessive oil. Cooked at too low of a temp. Clearly! Disgusting. The puff taco for $7.50 was a joke. Slightly puffy. No different than a taco half that price. No crunch, WAY too much oil again. No flavor. Tacos and enchiladas were also FAR too oily to enjoy. Again. Basically zero follow up service. I had to ask for a bill after waiting 15 minutes and was looked at like I was an idiot for doing so. This place was at best a dim flickering light of what it used to be. Clean, fresh, and delicious Mexican food for a price that is VERY comparable to restaurants that don't use organic and fresh ingredients. Service was great, waitress was attentive and friendly and we didn't wait long for our food, which was also wonderful. Everything was so fresh and flavourful. They have great tortilla chips and fresh delicious salsa as well as the best tasting queso I've ever had. I got the Mexican Dinner #1 and it had a great variety of things to try such as the taco and enchilada. My favourite was the tostada; the shell was so crispy and warm and again, you can really tell how fresh the ingredients were. For a drink I tried the horchata, which was pretty good but could be better as the texture was gritty and it lacked flavour. For dessert we had mini chimichanga's filled with dark chocolate and topped with caramel which were freaking delicious, however it was $11 for two mini chimichangas which is a little steep considering you don't get much. We absolutely love El Tipico, and have been regulars for years. The owner Dina is one of the kindest people we've ever met, and the food is some of the best around. I love the vegan Mexican pizza with pea protein crumbles and Mexican potatoes, their rice and beans, and the vegan super grande enchilada dinner with the fillings mentioned earlier. They have vegan sour cream too, which is delicious! Their vegan flan and mini chimis are also great. read more

Was driving by around lunch time, so I stopped in for a quick meal. I was the only one there for some time, but that's OK. I like peace and quiet! So, this place has puffy tacos - what a treat! the first time I had puffy tacos was in Albuquerque years ago. In fact, it's about the only place I've had them, other than El Tipico. They really are great! I guess they originated in Texas (El Paso???). Anyway, the way they make these is they take a ball of masa and form it into a kind of taco shell. It's then deep fried and what happens is the moisture in the masa turns to steam and the masa puffs up - "puffy taco!". The outside gets crispy, and the inside is really "pillowy" and just delicious. The shells are filled with your choice of protein and then topped with lettuce, onion, cheese, whatever you want. I think these are more like a traditional gordita (not that Taco Bell crap, but a real gordita!). GOD, THEY'RE DELICIOUS!!! The place is owned and operated by the same family since it opened (yes, they're super nice folks). It's clean and they have a lot of pride in the place. Everything is made from scratch. Homemade salsa, the beans are crazy good as is the rice! The beef is organic, grass fed, and locally sourced! This means they care about what they're serving the customers and that means a lot to me! Oh, no alcohol so if you have plans for turning into El Borracho Muchacho, you'll have to go elsewhere! read more

El Tipico serves the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. I wanted enchiladas and was amazed to find that I could choose my filling from a list of meat and vegetable options, and I could choose the sauce for each enchilada. I had one shredded chicken with mole sauce and one black bean with salsa verde. I also ordered refried beans and rice. The presentation was thoughtful and beautiful; beans and rice in the center and one enchilada on either side so the sauces didn't mix. The meal was heavenly. I have eaten mole sauce in many places, and it has never tasted so amazing. The sauce has a lightness that allows the flavors to shine. The service was great and friendly. I do not live in Ohio, and I will be stopping here for a meal every time I am in the area. read more

We're back again at El Tipico! I just say, color me impressed. I thought when I ordered something different this time that "sea salt potatoes as a filling is not going to be that good." I was proven wrong. They were perfectly cooked! It was delicious. The rice was great as always, but something that really blew me away was the beans! Theres something about the beans that just leave me in food heaven. It's so hard to describe. Words cannot form how delicious those refined beans were. The service was great we got chips and salsa at our table within 1 minute of sitting down. Refills were almost immediate as well. She was on top of it! There wasn't loud music, and people weren't talking too loud. The restaurant really gives a relaxed vibe to it. It made me feel comfortable as well. I recommend this place to everyone in the area. No shortcuts taken with preparation of beef and chicken - and it's fantastic. Menu is loaded with options for almost any palate. Tamales are the real deal here! Note: if you are looking for a place that puts a gallon of food on a platter and you have enough leftovers for your next 2 meals this is not your place. That said, the food platters are a very filling. And today, I simply ordered ala carte- two tacos and a tamale - very filling even without the chips and salsa they offer at no cost. My husband and I ate at El Tipico a couple of days ago. It was so nice to sit down to a healthy, delicious meal without compromising our health goals. There are not many places that we can do that at in the area. El Tipico uses no seed oils and has organic offerings on their menu. They are also gluten free and they go a step farther for people with Celiac's disease. I love that they put people's welfare above convenience! The beef is grass fed and the chicken is pasture raised. The service was great and the waitresses were very attentive. The owner greeted us and told us about her mission. I loved her passion for offering healthy, safe food options to people. The complementary chips and salsa were very good. My husband ordered a burrito with beef tip gravy (you choose from whichever sauce you'd like) and I got the Tamale dinner made with pork and I choose the verde sauce and we both enjoyed our meals. I also had a cup of the black bean soup with was very flavorful. I loved the fresh cilantro in the soup. We took steak and chicken fajitas home for our son and he said they were delicious and he would definitely order them again. We sat in a comfortable booth and enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. El Tipico is my secret - I don't want it to get so popular that we can't get in! But I know it's not fair to withhold a great review when they deserve it so much. The staff is very friendly and I love that you can make reservations - they're encouraged, in fact, because it's a small to medium-sized restaurant that can get popular at key times. It's such a relief to know that our spot is saved. I'm a convert to reservations! The food is so good here and the star attraction for us is that the whole menu can be made vegan! Amazing. The Mexican pizza with vegan cheese and the puffed tacos are our favorites. They're very well-informed about vegan food so there are no mix ups. El Tipico has catered two events for our family events over the years and both have been amazing. These events were for roughly 50 people. The food is always fresh and Dina is amazing in making sure everything is set up correctly and informing us how to keep things fresh and hot. I love Mexican food. I could eat it every day if I wanted to. I have never met a Mexican restaurant that I didn't enjoy. An ice cold margarita with the Mexican spices and flavors is my favorite flavor combination in the world. With that being said, what the eff did I just eat? This is, hands down, the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. And so freaking expensive!! $18 for the smallest portion of fajitas I have ever seen. I literally laughed when the waitress sat my plate in front of me. 1/3 of my regular restaurant style plate had chicken and fajita veggies on it. The rest of the plate was taken up by rice and beans. We also paid $8.75 for the smallest bowl of the worst queso dip I have ever eaten. It was almost gritty and reminded me a bit of the texture of a cheaply made cheesy potato soup. It had absolutely no flavor. Much like everything else we ordered. No flavor at all! My fiancé ordered steak tacos and they honestly looked good, but he said everything was bland. We eat Mexican food A LOT. We know what's good. The salsas were also weird as hell. We had the option of mild or hot, so we ordered one of both. The hot was just mashed up jalepeno, no tomato, and the mild just tasted like crushed tomatoes in tomato .juice. NO SPICES OR FLAVOR WHATSOEVER. And the worst tragedy of all is that they don't serve alcohol, so no margaritas. Are you kidding me?! We went at 3:20 on a Friday and the place was nearly empty. We were seated quickly and the service was fine. We were drawn in by the use of fresh ingredients from their "garden." The garden in question looked like a flowerbed overrun with mint, which they offered to put in my water. We saw an employee picking some on our way in. Hopefully there is another garden area that we didn't get to see and that they do actually use fresh ingredients. read more
