Fresh Margarita w fresh strawberries $13
    Kerry M.

We were in the area, so we figured what the heck? and gave Deseo Modern Mexican a shot. Caution - this is a tapas restaurant and we didn't give that much thought when we walked in the door. Very limited space downstairs and the stair steps looked rather short, so we opted to sit at the bar. Ordered the Fresa Margarita $13; Grilled Blue Point Oysters appetizer $18 (Qty 4); and Tostada De Atun $20 (Qty 4).. The food was good, but tapas style does not get you close to being satiated - well for me anyway. Big price to pay for such small portions.

WOW is all i have to say. In town with some friends and they always make a joke that i don't like anything... i loved absolutely everything here! The roasted jalapeño salsa was to die for, got the quesabirria tacos- all i can say is YUM! Everything i tried was delicious. I have nothing negative or neutral to say. Wendy our server was great and so knowledgeable! Small place with good ambiance. Mid lit- in a good way. Would be back.

I've had this place in my list for quite some time. It's not too far from our home and it's always been a great "backup option". Well I was finally able to try it and wow. What a place. They have a very cute and intimate downstairs bar, but they have more seating for larger parties upstairs. I sat upstairs with my toddler daughter (great for families) and we're close tot hr bathroom area. I ordered a Pima cocktail and whew- that chipotle agave ice cube sure did pack a good pinch of spicy flavor (in a good way) I then ordered the shrimp ceviche and the *****see menu photo**** My daughter loves the ceviche but called it sour and she lived the cheese part of the ******. Our server was amazing and so attentive to my daughter which is always so nice when going out. We will be coming back and soon.

I grew up in Toledo, but now live out west and let me sing some praises on this restaurant. First off, this concept being in Toledo was definitely a surprise. The food was so good, very authentic Mexican with a Spanish flare. Drinks were well balanced, I couldn't even taste the alcohol...but felt it lol. 10/10 recommend.

Rather expensive drinks, but well worth the money.

So maybe I'm late to the game, but here I am adding another FIVE STAR review to Deseo Modern Mexican's list of 5 star reviews. DRINKS: If (in Toledo) I'm going to pay 13 bucks for a drink, it better taste FANTASTIC and/or knock me on my ass. The drinks at DMM did both. Actually, I didn't get knocked on my butt, but I did catch a really cool buzz and totally enjoyed the Mango Mezcal and the El Deseo. My wife, tried the Pina Margarita and the watermelon Marg. She was amazed by both and admitted that both were worth the calories. "All" are made with fresh ingredients and good booze. There is beer (including Corona Premier...excellent waterbeer) and wine. The food is amazing and worth every calorie (and every penny). Mexican fare with a modern twist? Yeah, just like the name says. The combination of flavors and (especially) textures is amazing. I wouldn't call it tapas style, but with the number of small plates and tacos available, you could easily do tapas if you wanted. Fresh high quality ingredients, in conjunction with creative and well executed recipes makes for an excellent dining experience. Service: Friendly, accurate, and surprisingly fast. Location and Atmosphere: I like it. I've always been a sucker for Cricket West. Inside, it's modern, clean, and comfortable. Pro Tip: If you're eating upstairs, before you drink that third marg, remember you're going to have to negotiate that narrow and steep stairway on your way out. Yes. DMM is a little on the expensive side. With drinks, me and the Mrs paid...I'm not going to tell. Was it worth the money? I'm gonna definitely have say 'yes.' Will we be back? Oh yeah, but just not every day. FIVE STARS!

    Snapper Tacos

Top of the charts food experience in Toledo. Modern Mexican that is Midtown worthy. The Red Snapper tacos are incredible. Enjoy the food with their delicious sangria. This is the spot you should take all of your out of town guests. They will leave with a wonderful impression of Toledo.

My dad and I had our first dining experience at Deseo Modern Mexican this evening and although we didn't know what to expect as I come from a Mexican family and have also traveled throughout Spain, we both decided it was 10/10 amazing! We ordered the Verduras Tacos (added shrimp), Cazuela with vegetables, and Papas Bravas to share. Even though they say tapas it was more than what we could finish with the caveat that neither of us eat giant portions anyway. For our drinks, dad ordered a refreshing limeade (not too sweet or too tart) and I had the Horchata. The Horchata was good but next time I would get the limeade for something less sweet and more hydrating on a hot day. Shoutout to our server Glenn who surprised us with a piece of cake before we left. I appreciate that he checked in on us and was quick to answer any of our questions about the food. Disclaimer: the stairs are a bit steep which I could see some folks having a hard time with and the tables are close to your neighbors. I personally think it made it feel like more of an authentic experience but know some people have melt downs about that sort of thing. I will definitely be retuning when I'm back in Toledo and recommending to my local friends!

    Cocktails and top notch guac!

In town for a band competition. The ahi tuna plato was exceptional, as were the scallops. Creative and fresh cocktails. Would definitely recommend.

Based on the reviews, I was excited to give this place a try. The layout is a bit odd, a bar downstairs and one large table or you. Can hike the stairs to the second floor which has an odd assortment of tables incredibly close together. If I was rating just the margarita it would be 5 stars. Unfortunately, the food is pricey and a miss. Neither dish we ordered I would want to return for. The cheese in both the tacos and the dip was one partially melted blob. The cost of 4 tacos, a dip, and 2 drinks with tip was approximately $70. I hate to say it, but I left hungry and unsatisfied.

Everything was so bomb! Food, service and ambience! Not much else to say. 10/10 would recommend!

Papas Bravas and Mexican old fashion cocktail

If you are looking for a place to eat that has great ambience, great food and great service then, I would recommend Deseo Modern Mexican in Toledo, OH. My brother and I met our cousin and her boyfriend in Toledo since it was halfway for us. They had some great cocktail choice and all the drinks are made with fresh fruit and agave as their simple sugar. I had a Mexican old fashion made with Anjo Tequilla, brown sugar cubes, Aztec chocolate bitters it was delicious. For my meal I had the Papas Bravas with sausage. Beautiful presentation and delicious. I would drive there again for another meal and cocktails. I would recommend making reservations because the place is limited to seating. The only down fall is the main dinning is upstairs but there is limited sitting on the lower level. I would recommend this place if you want something different.

3.5-ish For starters, the name of this restaurant (according…read moreto its own sign) is Taqueria Carnales, not Carnales Taqueria (as listed on Yelp). Anyway, this is a place for people who enjoy highly flavored and spicy food. Seriously, ask them to go easy on the jalapenos if you aren't up for spicy. I ordered everything as is for my first visit for takeout and enjoyed it but it was on the edge of too spicy for me, (chicken grande burrito) without actually crossing the line.Very much crossed the line with the shrimp tacos, imo. I ordered the following: Menudo Soup (made from cow's stomach); Shrimp Tacos and a Chicken Burrito Grande. The estimated prep time was 15 minutes and the food was ready on time. It's a cute, small restaurant that is very clean. While you could choose to dine in, I didn't see anyone eating there and it appears that most of their business is carryout. Upon arriving home, I found that the Menudo Soup had spilled inside the plastic bag. Not too big a deal. The other entrees were packed in styrofoam containers. The burrito was wrapped in paper and foil. My mom had the Menudo Soup and said it was good. She had one of the three shrimp tacos and said it was okay but that she wouldn't crave them. The avocado slices looked very fresh. My mom loves spicy food but she commented that the soup and tacos were very spicy. As for my chicken burrito, it was unexpectedly spicy in a mostly good way. The burrito was stuffed with everything inside - guacamole, rice, chicken, refried beans (very little), cheese and jalapeno peppers. It was a delicious combo but I would have preferred the individual ingredients to be separate. The biggest problem, however, was that the foil wrap made it difficult to cut into the burrito without also cutting into the foil. I think it's more of a "me" issue that might not bother anyone else. Overall, I would order from this restaurant again. The quality is definitely way above Taco Bell, but it's not quite fast food even though it's next to a Subway. Also, I asked if their refried beans were made with lard and I was assured they were vegetarian. If I hadn't seen so many positive reviews on Yelp, I wouldn't have known to check out this spot, but would encourage you to try it too for high quality, authentic Mexican cuisine! EDIT/UPDATE: I tried one of the shrimp tacos that my mom left in the fridge. OMG, it was super spicy to the point of giving me hiccups. Plus, the spiciness seemed to come from a creamy cheese sauce added to the shrimp tacos after they were cooked. I can understand why my mom wouldn't crave them and I would never order them myself. Based on your personal preference for spiciness, let this give you an idea of the level of spiciness that could be added to your food unless you request your dish to be less spicy. Recommend with caveat re spiciness.

I got a big order of rice, beans, tortillas, chips and salsa, and some guac. Boring, I know, but I like to make my own mini tacos. The flavors were on point, especially the beans and the salsa. My one small gripe was that I had to pay for the chips and salsa, while my mom's partner who spent about the same amount on his burrito, got them for free. Might have just been a mistake but I thought it was odd. The entrance was through a small market which was interesting. It was a surprise when I got to the dining area and the ceiling opened up into a much larger space complete with gorgeous murals. Would be happy to return if I'm in the area again.
