Another Yelp! find... having lived on the West Coast for quite some time, my quest for authentic Mexican food has been fulfilled with what will now be my second go-to in the Toledo area. Small and unassuming, but the service is good, food was good, prices are very reasonable, and the Pico De Gallo is phenomenal! I will definitely be stopping in from time to time when I crave Mexican food.

Wonderful service and food! I was greeted at the door by two smiling employees which you never see these days. They were so friendly and pleasant and the smiles never left their faces throughout my visit. The food was perfection. I ordered the shrimp and tilapia combo with beans and rice. I also took some items to go. Perfectly seasoned with large portions. The ambiance is vibrant and authentic. Very lovely experience and

My Wife and I are fortunate enough to travel to the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, Mexico's Pacific Coast (Baja Peninsula) and much of Southern California. It's always puzzled me "why can't we ever find Authentic Mexican restaurants near Toledo"? Today, at El Salto on Monroe St. I was able to eat Authentic Mexican Food. I've had people recommend Mexican Restaurants to me before only to be disappointed by the restaurant and the pallet of the person who recommended it. My Wife and I were both very pleasantly surprised. To the question "why can't we ever find Authentic Mexican restaurants near Toledo"? The answer to this question is, you haven't gone to El Salto. We will definitely be back.

Food was decent. I got the birria. The sauce was oily and the tacos were pretty dry and bland even with the consume. They only had one other table so for the service we got it wasn't really good. She barely checked on us. Overall, not the worst place but I wouldn't eat here again like ever so many better options.

Excellent food, killer margaritas, and terrific service. We've gone to the El Salto in Maumee for many, many years and are happy that this location is just as great! Our favorites are the alambre, el mocajate, pollo loco, chile rellenos, tacos, enchiladas, flautas, and guacamole. Their salsas are all fresh and packed with flavor. We always have their meat rice soup as an appetizer and eat it as a dip with their homemade tortilla chips. We highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. Great food, drinks, service, and prices!

This family needs to teach classes on being restaurateurs! From the moment you walk in you get a feeling that this place will be great. Friendly and attentive staff brought warm chips and excellent salsa while we looked at the menu. Salsa was perfect. Not too hot but not wimpy either. The refritos were creamy and delicious. Chicken fajitas, enchiladas, tacos were all amazing too. (Authentic though so if you are looking for chain style taste you maybe disappointed.) We have been so disappointed with Mexican restaurants lately that we stopped going out for Mexican food. El Saltos has changed that and will be our new goto Mexican place. Kids eat free on Tuesdays!

    Quesabirria

This is by far the best and most authentic mexican food I have ever had in the midwest! So incredible! I had the quesabirria tacos and was blow away!! I will definitely be visiting more often and bringing everyone I know! (I couldn't even wait to take a picture I had to take a bite) Super fast, fresh and great service!

Shrimp Fajitas in foreground, chicken fajitas in back. Delicious!

I remember stopping by at one point last year, but the restaurant was not open due to renovations. We arrived by 5:30pm on a Tuesday; not very many people there at all. Not sure when El Patron opened for business, so we figured it must have been somewhat recent. Nicely decorated - nothing too elaborate or upscale, just nicely done. We ordered Chicken Fajitas and a 3 item combo plate (Chicken Chile Relleno, Beef Burrito, and Beef Tamale). Chicken Fajitas was mostly bell peppers and onions, but had a decent flavor. The Tamale had waaaaay too much masa, so it was almost cake-like (not a fan). Salsa was decent as was the Pico de Gallo. Prices weren't too bad considering the portions. Remember me saying one of the reasons we chose El Patron was due to the Foodie Card and the $10 discount after spending $30? Well, by the time we remembered the Foodie Card, our server had already processed the payment. Ugh! All-in-all, a decent Mexican restaurant. Won't be one of my go-to's when we get a craving for some food from South of the border, but we will go back to take advantage of our Foodie Card! Happy eating...

They know their menu better than us so I always let them tell me what to get! I got one of their combos: 2 traditional tacos with onion and cilantro, with rice and beans for $10! The next night, I got the same combo, add a birria ramen and the MEAT!!!! The meat it came with was SO SO SO GOOD and tender! It all fell apart once my fork hit it, it was cooked to perfection! Wish I got a picture of it. The birria ramen was a cup of noodles with some birria meat added, and it was $3.99 for the small! If you like affordable, authentic Mexican food, make sure you stop here!!! They have the friendliest service and best tasting food.

Had a strawberry margarita that the bartender went around the rear of the bar to make. Weird but it tasted pretty good. The bartenders/servers were all friendly but not especially helpful. Just kept saying everything is good. Everything is good. Went basic n got small queso and a chicken quesadilla. My girl got a fajita, tamale, n rice n beans. Pretty good chips for the queso. Quesadilla was ok. My girl raved over the tamales n she even ordered a few to go. So ordered another round while we wait. Now this margarita tasted like straight margarita mix. Yuck. I was straight sober after 2. Later that evening my girl texts me she been on the toilet all evening. Change of shift comes and the bartenders mention happy hr. No mention of this when we arrived or anything. I didn't see anything on the menu about it or their website. I didn't order anything else at that point. New bartender that comes in around 3, not so friendly and puts reserved signs at the bar to save seats for her girls. Never seen this at a Mexican restaurant before but whatever. She seemed to go out of her way to NOT be friendly. Counted as a one off til I went back a few more times. Same bartender complaining about folks coming in an hour before closing, still unfriendly. Still for me, the food is just eh. Maybe its just the chicken that's not great because my man came n enjoyed some quesabirria tacos while I picked at a chicken taco. Don't recommend the margarita unless u pay extra for freshly made or better yet wait for Fronteras Mexican restaurant to open back up. I like friendly bartenders n good chicken. Average here.

She definietly was a big part of how great our experience was. The place was colorful and full of life which I loved. The "Steak a La Mexicana" was sensational, it was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the flavors were amazing. I requested the vegetables to be kept crunchy and they were perfect. They also give you large portion sizes of the beans, rice and salad all alongside a NY strip for only $17. Crazy good deal. We tried the Birria as that is what they seem to be known for and it was amazing and the consume was sensational, we asked for a side of it togo and we dipped everything in it. The arroz con pollo, wet burrito, and chips salsa/queso were all great as well. Everything was seasoned great and the refried beans and rice were awesome. I cannot wait to come back and try more of their menu, especially fajitas and the birria pizza and mexican pizza. it also looked like they had good weekly specials that I will be sure to keep an eye on and check out.
