Based on reviews, tried this spot on a Sunday evening when it wasn't busy in the restaurant, but noticed many carryout orders. The service was decent. Margarita was okay not great. The food disappointing. I had ordered a chicken burrito that was very salty. I therefore thought El Salto was a perfect name for this restaurant. First and likely last time coming here. Ambiance was ok, plenty of seating and wasn't overly busy when we were there. Service was incredible slow though with minimal checking on our table while waiting for our food (not complex order) which took over 25 minutes from the time we ordered until we got our food. Carnitas were $2 off which seemed like a good deal, but were dry and not shredded at all. Margaritas weren't a terrible flavor but were overall underwhelming. If given the choice, I'd recommend a plethora of other Mexican restaurants in the Toledo area before coming here. read more

Wonderful service and food! I was greeted at the door by two smiling employees which you never see these days. I've had people recommend Mexican Restaurants to me before only to be disappointed by the restaurant and the pallet of the person who recommended it. Food was decent. I got the birria. The sauce was oily and the tacos were pretty dry and bland even with the consume. They only had one other table so for the service we got it wasn't really good. She barely checked on us. Overall, not the worst place but I wouldn't eat here again like ever so many better options. read more

Excellent food, killer margaritas, and terrific service. We've gone to the El Salto in Maumee for many, many years and are happy that this location is just as great! Our favorites are the alambre, el mocajate, pollo loco, chile rellenos, tacos, enchiladas, flautas, and guacamole. Their salsas are all fresh and packed with flavor. We always have their meat rice soup as an appetizer and eat it as a dip with their homemade tortilla chips. We highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. Average maybe slightly below Mexican food. We got takeout from here and before I go any further I will State that I judge a Mexican restaurant off their ability to do fajitas. Wife and I got a fajitas dish: hers chicken, mine texanas. Everything was cooked appropriately and there was a good mix of meat/vegetables in both of ours. They were both however simply sauteed in oil. No flavors, no seasoning, just plain food. They came with standard sides that were slightly sub standard in flavor again due to lack of any type of seasoning. Overall, I finished mine because I was hungry but my wife threw most away. We also got a kid's burrito which my daughter hardly touched. I tried it, and wow, not good at all. Meat was almost powdery and the sauce just did not taste good. Inside atmosphere is standard, tv's everywhere all with soccer on, bright colors etc.... Server was nice, responsive, and got everything right. I'll stick with san Marco from here on out, I just wish I lived closer. read more

This family needs to teach classes on being restaurateurs! From the moment you walk in you get a feeling that this place will be great. Friendly and attentive staff brought warm chips and excellent salsa while we looked at the menu. Salsa was perfect. Not too hot but not wimpy either. The refritos were creamy and delicious. Chicken fajitas, enchiladas, tacos were all amazing too. (Authentic though so if you are looking for chain style taste you maybe disappointed.) We have been so disappointed with Mexican restaurants lately that we stopped going out for Mexican food. El Saltos has changed that and will be our new goto Mexican place. This place is 50/50, but ultimately deserves 2 stars. Margs and cold drafts are great but that's where it ended for me. We ordered a dip for an appetizer, steak fajitas, and another dish. The waitress came back 15 mins later with our entrees only. Asked if we wanted chips, and we said yes, with the dip. You could instantly tell she forgot about putting the dip in. She decided to lie and said she would "check" on it. She walked right to the register and put it in, cane back and said the specific dip we ordered always takes longer. She acted like we were that stupid to believe it. That wasn't the worst. Got the steak fajitas and the plate was 95% onions and peppers. I could barely find the steak. The quality of the steak I could find was a very poor cut of meat. Toledo has too many Mexican restaurants to mess around with stuff like this. read more

First visit to this new location was a WINNER! Comfortable atmosphere, casual and cozy. I ordered the Shrimp Fajitas that came with an abundance of shrimp cooked in a great almost smoky mix with grilled peppers, onions and tomatoes. The tortillas were amazing! I don't know if they are made there, but the definitely are not the typical flour tortilla. The fixings/toppings plate was FULL with a generous handful of chopped lettuce, tomato, Spanish Rice, refried beans, guacamole, and sour cream. Service was great, and my glass was never empty, which is a big plus in my book. Prices very reasonable, parking convenient, and rest room was clean! Will never go back. Live right down the street, have eaten here multiple times. Sitting in their lot writing this right now cause I'm so mad. Ordered an order of salsa and chips and guacamole dip. I get one tiny bag of chips and a 3 oz of salsa! Get out to my car and realize that I need more chips so I go in and ask for extra and get charged $1.25. What a crock! Could've went to Aldi's and bought a whole bag. Should've grabbed my first charge slip that was still sitting there and crossed out my 20% tip that I left for the carry out. This place is a sham. El Salto is one of the most authentic around. Excellent menu, prices for portions are a steal, and talk about service- It's practically on the table before i finish saying my order. The Margaritas are delicious and they dont skimp on the alcohol. If you sign up for texts you get 15% off the total bill coupons like every week. TERRIBLE service! I have eaten here many times and the food is good but it is the worst service you will ever receive! On my most recent visit I ordered take out, went in at 7:45 to pick it up. I stood at the counter for 8 minutes without being helped or greeted! 3 different employees walked past me and not a single one said a word to me. Came here with a friend for a late lunch. Had a soft chicken taco x2 with rice. The chicken taco was so delicious and had lots of flavor. I tend to find that a lot of chicken tacos are bland or dry but that wasn't the case here. The chips and salsa were equally excellent. Mildly spicy salsa and warm chips which is a bonus because a few restaurants I've been to have abysmal salsa which lets be honest is most people's favorite part of the meal. The only downfall was that the rice was a bit on the dry side. Overall I'd come here again. Side note: the door chime is horrendous sounding and it would be helpful to tell us to take our bills up to the counter for payment. :) read more

Don't pass this place by! When you bring friends and family, they will bestow the tile of "finder of the fabulous" upon you. Darn good food. Brother-in-law says there is never a wait. Menu looks like it will keep me coming back for more. They even made huevos rancheros from their lunch menu for my wife for dinner. It's 7pm on a Monday and let me tell you, I had 3-4 waitresses come to my table setting drinks down, chips, salsa, and the queso dip I asked for literally within seconds. She brought out the most delicious burrito I've ever eaten (maybe I'm just very hungry but it was delicious). It was so darn tootin good that I ordered another. I've never eaten this much before. This has been our favorite Mexican in Toledo for a long time. We used to have to go all the way out by the zoo for there amazing carnitas and tacos. They opened this location and now we are in at least once a week if not more. The staff is so sweet and able. The tacos dinner is another excellent choice. There menu is large however and I know there are many others we have yet to enjoy. It's so hard to break away from our favorites! I love that they have great green and red salsas. I have never written a review before even if I wasn't satisfied, however, I have never had such poor quality & service. The salsa is straight up watered down tomato paste, the hamburger meat tasted like dog food out of a can smells, the rice had no color or flavor,received wrong flavor of margarita and when the waitress finally came to our table she was rude and didn't care that our food & drinks were not what we ordered.
