Excellent food and service. I've eaten here many times and have had the same wonder experience

Amaya's Fresh Mexican Grill is a refreshing twist on some of my favorite dishes! Located downtown Monroe on the corner of East Front & Monroe Street, it is easy to find with plenty of parking available. The space is perfect for lunches, large parties, families, and date night! The margaritas look amazing. I was here for lunch, but will definitely be back for the libations! The server was efficient & attentive, always keeping our delicious chip basket & drinks refilled. I opted for the jackfruit Mexican pizza- what a pleasant variety of textures & flavors! The portions were enough to fill me up and take the rest home for a second meal. Mama's tacos were a hit at my table, a "must." The plate presentation and the fusion of foods brought me back to Southern California. I love we can find this fare here in Monroe. :) Amaya's been in this location for over ten years. Give them a try (again, if it's been a while.) You will be hooked! read more

The service was good. The salsa both the medium and hot had great flavor. The chips were light and crispy. The mahi mahi tacos were excellent. The rice was okay. All over good price and good food. Bonus: Their margaritas use real lime juice not that icky sweet mixer. read more

A bunch of our girlfriends came here for a post workout dinner. They had white a great cocktail list but I asked the waitress her favorite and she said a coconut pineapple margarita. This was hands down the best margarita I've ever had. I'm not a huge tequila fan much anymore but when she said coconut tequila I knew the drink would be tasty, but wow it packed a ton of flavor. We ordered some queso with beans and queso without beans for an appetizer and I ordered mamas tacos for my meal. The queso was quite good, but the mamas tacos were phenomenal. They were street tacos deep fries with such an amazing flavor. Great Mexican food spot in this area and a great place to celebrate. Even if it's just because it's half way through the week. read more

Tried the fajitas because I saw they use actual cuts of meat and not the weird meat usual Mexican places use. They were really good but I would get the chicken only next time, I got the mixed chicken and steak. My boyfriend loved the mushroom tostada and his tacos. If you are a vegetarian; this place has so many delicious options. I thoroughly enjoyed my veggie quesadilla; perfectly grilled with great flavor. Friendly service. Medium and hot salsas were both good the hot is definitely spicy. The chimi was nicely fried if a little too cheesy. I rate my Mexican restaurants by their rice and beans and these were just dry and flavorless. I'd go back and try a few other things as well. read more

Amaya's... what happened? This was our go-to favorite restaurant in Monroe, probably best Mexican place in Michigan. We would actually drove the distance from AA for their food. Today's visit was disappointing: 1/ wonderful waitstaff understaffed; 2/ kitchen probably understaffed as well, therefore loooong wait times, even to order; 3/ both meals disappointing. I loved their tamales, but not today's! Rice & beans undistinguished, while jackfruit burrito was very disappointing. Something has happened at Amaya's: new ownership, staff absenteeism, penny-pinching, no more "Mexican lady making fresh tamales..." What a shame read more

Found Amayas on yelp while looking for somewhere different to eat. It was great. The chips were so good. They were thin and crispy. Had the queso dip with it. Excellent!! A hidden little gem in downtown Monroe!! Great great Mexican food, very fresh and some of the best guacamole and salsa I have had! Chips and salsa to get you started, didn't even have to ask for more chips! The chips are super tasty! You can choose the salsa you want! There is also a full bar! Decades of experience between the partners making grandma's special food from the homeland Mexico. Shout out to Mackenzie our superstar waitress incredible job, your a keeper. Place packed late lunch hour which is always a good sign. Started with what we call Queso Fundidio was actually one of the best ever a perfect blend of Chorizo n Cheese with addictive fresh made in house Tortilla Chips WOWED. She had mixed Steak n Chicken Fajitas spot on. I tried a really good Mexican Pizza and blown away by Yo Mama's Tacos filled with Carnitas n Cheese dusted with Cotija Cheese a wonderful trio of Tacos. The best ever I call Gringo Burger, closest to one I been making for a couple decades. A blended Ground Beef n Chorizo topped with Pepper Jack Cheese n Onion Straw's. So great I would highly suggest owners enter in Burger Battle Detroit held once each year. The Burger OMG one of best ever eaten perfection, yeah it's a must try. Full Bar, stage for entertainment and Margarita Flights to sample 4 at a time. The quality and taste of the food is very good. The staff and management are very friendly. This is my favorite local Mexican restaurant in town. I think the portions are a little on the small side. They are moderately priced. They have a bar but no happy hour. They have a good selection of drinks. Bar has two TVs. Some other information about this location. They do offer free WiFi, you may open carry a handgun in the facility, vaping is not aloud in the facility. It is worth the stop if you're in the area and feel like authentic Mexican food. While they do not have a to go menu I believe the manager said the menu you is at least online. They play Mexican music in the background. It is not loud and does not make conversations difficult. My favorite meal is the 3 beef enchiladas with Spanish rice and pinto beans. read more

Went in for a couple tacos to go and stayed for a tall, cold Two Hearted and ate my Baja Shrimp tacos at the bar. And DANG were they good! Crispy yes, but all shrimp and with very little breading. Just right. The cayenne aioli added just the right bite. The cilantro was big and fresh. Yum! These were bigger than street tacos, but none of the filling spilled out on my plate; the sign of a well built taco. Live music was just right too. We love Amayas! Have been coming here for years and food is always amazing. One thing I would like to recommend is making the drinks a little stronger! Food was okay at best, but the house margarita were mostly sour mix.. not sure any alcohol in them. If you elect the top shelf you get half the size and twice the price. A lot of busy people working but very little intermingling with any guess,with 5 or 6 tables going.. you are a customer and not that important feeling. 3 times in here and only 1 person smiled and was personable all 3 times.. a tall blonde woman. Everyone else well.. a weird vibe. Not cheap, nothing special.. I believe if a Mexican restaurant opens in or on the south side of Monroe this place will close. And the Steak Burrito dinner (large), which was HUGE!! Also more than enough CHIPS and SALSA right out of the gate. So nice to have new restaurants! Instead of the same boring places. We're from Southern California and traveling and always looking for some good Mexican food. Amaya's was pretty good. The tyaluda was okay...not very much Mexican food flavors, but a good meal. We were hoping for more spice, peppers, onions...something a little more than a gastropub kind of flatbread pie. The seafood quesadilla was very good. Again, wish it had some sauteéd onions or peppers of some kind to give it some more flavors of Mexican food. Chilies or something. It was very mild and a good taste, though. Great chips and there are three salsas to choose from: hot, medium, mild. I enjoyed the hot and medium. The mild has a sweet edge to it, which probably suits more to a midwestern palate who doesn't want heat. Guacamole was great! So, I would eat there again and look for dishes with a little more direction of Mexican flavors to satisfy what I went in for. But, definitely recommend. read more

Doesn't look like much when you walk past but this place is definitely worth your time. I order the beef enchiladas with rice and I must say, I'm impressed. The rice rivals home made Mexican rice and the enchiladas were definitely better than 90% of places I've been to. If you're in the area this is definitely a place to stop in! read more

Holy cow! This place was a welcome surprise after we moved to the area! My hubby really wanted Mexican food and he selected this place off of Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed! The chips were decent and both of us liked the salsas. I am a Mild gal but hubby preferred the Medium or Hot salsa. Hubby ordered shrimp burrito (or something...it had cheese and a creamy sauce on it). He thoroughly enjoyed it. I tried part of a shrimp and it was cooked perfectly - very tender and not over cooked like how I usually wind up cooking shrimp myself). I had the create-your-own platter if a tostado and refried beans. Very delicious! We went back for dinner a few days later and I am certain this will be our "place" for Mexican while we live in the area. read more
