Looking forward to eating at this restaurant for a while & finally made it happen tonight. My first impression was good- a nice restaurant! However it went downhill soon after. It was a busy Friday night & was told it would be about 25 minute wait to get our food. It actually was more like 37 minutes! I find that unacceptable for 2 burgers & onion rings! Our burgers were not hot, but we ate them anyway just because it had taken so long to get our food. Besides that the bun to meat ratio was off. Bun was too large for the amount of meat. The onion rings were very greasy. Also not really excited sharing large tables to eat w/ strangers. The parking or lack of it is another issue. I'm really disappointed. Haven't been here in a few years. We decided to stop here on a Sunday. We had a death in the family so I wanted it to be a surprise to my girlfriend. I talked this place up. First off I'm not hard to please. I used to cut meat for a butcher shop that supplies Green Meadow farm in Gap. Great Amazing people btw. I digress. I ordered a smashed burger my better half got the bbq. Long story short 25 minute wait. They forgot to text me when they did come out for me to come in the food was cold. I had some hot sauce on my burger so I wanted a milkshake. They actually text me that my food was done and when I got in there he said it was a mistake so I bought two milkshakes which brought the order to $68 approximately. Still no text after I left with said milkshakes. Waiting waiting. Finally he comes out and says that they made a mistake and bump in my order before it was done. I told him I just wanted to refund and the head guy who everyone knows proceeded to argue with me over eight dollars over milkshakes. He said he would count me on a bill but he wouldn't count me eight dollars for the milkshakes. I didn't even want money for the milkshakes. I just wanted money for the bill. to be fair I was reimbursed, but it still was a horrible experience mainly because of the attitude but I am also a believer in second chances we'll see. This was one spot on the top of our list to try. We have read great things and the pictures of the food look amazing. Unfortunately, this was our biggest disappointment on our trip. We came in on Sunday around 6:45-7pm, they close at 8pm. There was no line when we came in and placed our order quickly. We were told a 30min wait which was fine by us. They do take your number to text you just in case you are not in the restaurant. There was plenty of seating and they did have a small bar in the back. We decided to grab a drink and relax. We ordered the classic burger, a Reuben, and strawberry milkshake. Timing was spot on, after about 30 minutes they called our name. The food looked good, but something was not right. Every item is made to order, they cook the food in an open kitchen, so you see it all. When I picked up the food there was no steam coming off anything. Unfortunately, once we picked them up and took a bite both meals were lukewarm-cold. The bottom burger bun was cold and soggy. The Reuben did not have that nice, melted cheese and messy first bite. The fries were soggy and cool. With the food being cold the flavor wasn't coming through. I can only assume the meal was done for a bit and was left to sit out. They were busy with takeout orders and other meals, but I am not giving them an excuse. The food was OK, my wife did not finish her burger, but the milkshake was delicious. Not sure why I would have ever given this place a 4/5.  They're a 10/5!  My fiancée and I have stopped in here a number of times since the initial review, trying the various burger and chicken sandwiches.  I encourage you to try them all; you won't be disappointed.  The patty melt and spicy chicken are favorites of mine.  Give these guys a follow on social media because they often have limited specials that look delicious - if you can get there in-time.  Mad Chef brewing in East Petersburg has a kiosk inside to pair a beer with your sandwich. read more

Had a wonderful Saturday early lunch with friends at Cabalar on a windy day in Lancaster. We arrived at 11am and it was decently quiet, but by the time it was 12:30pm the whole dining room was full. We ordered their spicy chicken sandwich, patty melt, and the pulled pork mac and cheese. LOVED: Spicy chicken sandwich - actually spicy with high quality bun & chicken LIKED: Beer + patty melt Wouldn't get again : - wine - pulled pork mac&cheese (honestly tasted very weird with bacon fat breadcrumbs. The mac and cheese itself was fine) They sell beer and wine across the hall, the wine was really expensive for what I got; but the beer selection was pretty good at good prices. Probably the best burger I've ever eaten. The texture of the meat is perfect. It pretty much all just melts in your mouth. The staff is friendly and helpful. I really want to try that hot chicken sandwich but I really couldn't resist trying a burger since they butcher their own meat, and unfortunately I only have one stomach. Hopefully I'll get another shot although Lancaster is full of great restaurants and we only get to eat so many times a day. read more

I basically had my five-star review ready as soon as I walked through the doorway and got smacked in the face by the smell of the burgers cooking. This is one of those places where the ambient air will get your salivary glands working overtime. The burgers look and taste artisanal. I say this with 100% confidence but Cabalar has the best burgers in the city. I'm not a huge burger/red meat fan, but I crave them all the time. Their milkshakes are to die for and their onion rings are the best I've ever had. The only downside is they are so popular, they are always busy. My pro tip is that you can order ahead for pick up and it's generally ready sooner than if you order in person. We ordered from our phones while visiting at the hospital, not knowing what to expect. We got a bahn mi and a Cubano- not realizing that beef was a highlight there. Easily in the top 3 burgers of all time. I got recommended this by a friend and while I don't like him, I do like this burger place. The sweet heat burger is really good and that's all I get here. Other than having to parallel park (which I'm really good at) it's a really good experience. I once had to park in Chicago and I did it really well so I guess this was lower stress. I botched parallel parking on my drivers test but it didn't matter because I did it during Covid and for some reason they were just letting everyone pass really easily. The interior of Cabalar is really simple but I guess they live and die by their reputation. When I was handed the sandwich something smelled off. And picking it apart it was the pork. It's been awhile since I had a Bahn mi so I didn't know I'd it was just me, but as soon as I brought it to the table my husband thought it smelled weird. I took a cautious bite and it tasted ok but the smell really took away my appetite. My husband also took a bite and he also said it tasted fine. But the smell was so off putting. Too salty, however, it was at least real meat, cheese, and bread. BUT the milk shake was BY FAR the worst shake I've ever had in 63 years. Not real ice cream. It was an artificial-foam like beverage that was room temperature and never melted in 2 hours until I threw it out at home. Surprisingly good food. Casual dinning style(self-serving) with plenty of seatings. They do have a small parking lot on the side of building but it is also pretty easy to find street parking too. I had very high expectations for a butcher/restaurant to have fabulous hamburgers. Ordered the aged burger. I asked for pink medium and was told we cook them medium unless you ask for well done. I said wonderful as I like my burgers pink n juicy. I ordered salad with mine. Burger was thin n overcooked with no juiciness. Dull and not what I anticipated. I loved the salad n dressing reminded me of Paris where all salads are made with same vinaigrette and it is delicious. My husband got a patty melt n enjoyed it and French fries which had great taste but too soft. I prefer crispy fries. Drove a half hour to try it and won't go back. We're visiting from California and we were so excited to stumble across this spot! We had the beef and cheese and the Reuben - both full of flavor and absolutely perfect. I almost always add extras on my burgers/sandwiches as they usually lack flavor but we could've eaten the meat on its own as it tasted so good. The craft beer bar is the perfect addition too. If you're staying anywhere near the Lancaster area this is a MUST, even if you have to drive half an hour or so to get here!! We'll definitely be back. What a great place for a delicious, casual meal! We haven't had the best luck with restaurants in Lancaster lately so I asked the owner of the bike shop we were at last Sunday for a good lunch spot. He immediately told me to try Cabalar Meat and it just so happened it was right around the corner. Perfect. The restaurant is very cute and very busy. They are also a butcher shop and brewery. The open kitchen was bustling and everything smelled delicious. My fianace had the Single Mac burger and fries and I had the Banh Mi with side salad. All was fresh and tasty! His burger was prepared perfectly and the fries were hot and crispy. My Banh Mi was very good (a tad too much sauce so next time I will ask them for less - not complaining - it was still delicious). The mixed greens salad was fresh and flavorful. He had one of their beers (can't remember which one but he loved it) and I had a nice glass of wine. I am so glad to finally have a go-to restaurant in Lancaster so we don't continue to strike out at all the disappointing chain places. Definitely try this place if you get a chance! read more

The reviews on this place are very accurate. Excellent food, clean, great vibe for the atmosphere. Over a few trips there, had the house burger and Spicy chicken sand. (Side of salad to cut back on carbs but they looked good...it seemed everyone got them but me...on a side note salad was good with a nice light house made dressing spring mix type lettuce) Spicy chicken was what is described here often. Has just enough kick but no overbearing. Thigh was excellent flavor House burger was great. I don't get the only "OK" reviews of the burgers. They do live up to the hype. They ARE juicy, NOT greasy. I imagine a party melt might have a bit more because of a grilled bread. But the regular burger on the super soft buns are phenomenal. There are lots of choices in downtown Lancaster to eat, but this should be in your top 5. read more
