Nto only was he efficient, kind, and knowledgeable, but he showed up when he said he would and did what he said he would at a very reasonable price. He went right to where the termites were and showed us the damage, then arranged the needed tenting and repairs. I found signs of termites on new years eve and made a call on 1/2/17 to both the cell and office number. I never heard back but since it was a holiday time and they were a referral from someone I know, I gave it another try about a month later when I was ready to deal with it. They got back to me the next day this time around. They always returned calls promptly throughout and even after process was complete. I am glad I gave them another try! Chris Came out and took a look at spots I knew of and went in attic to check and did a perimeter check. I needed to have the house tented...and while they are not the actual ones who tent the house I liked how they made sure all my millions of questions were answered and that we knew what to do. They left plenty of info on process and all. They are great at making sure you are clear on what is involved. Since it was a referral and I knew his bid out did others for them, I didn't have to bother looking elsewhere. The price was very reasonable. Chris offers a camera security system for a small fee for while your house is being fumigated. It is optional so you can do without if you want but I wouldn't! It uploads videos it records when it senses motion in a room and you can use an app to see it all and can even look at live feed of any of the 5 cameras anytime you want. I enjoyed knowing my house was safe. A bonus is you know and see when fumigators arrive to tent your house, how they behave in your home, and then when the tent is being removed. I then could watch when the gas company turned back on gas and how they behaved in my home. It was meant to catch a thief but it is so much more! I would recommend this company as they get the job done and work hard to please their customers. read more

I recently sold my home in Carlsbad and had Chris Luce come for termite inspection. He found two trouble spot: an infested area in the attic and in a rear door leading to backyard. He said that he could spray the attic for $650. I thought that it was a little too expensive but I was under a time pressure to close escrow and gave him the go-ahead. As far as the door is concerned, here is what he said in his report "Evidence of Drywood Termite activity was noted at rear door, as indicated on the diagram. RECOMMENDATION: Owner to contact licensed contractor to make necessary repairs to correct damaged wood members to areas noted above". So I had my (licensed) handyman look at it and give me an estimate around $500. He was going to cut off the affected area and attach fresh new wood. A few days later Chris changed his mind and was absolutely adamant that the door had to be replaced (before I had it repaired) . He would not accept any repair and even insisted that it was impossible to repair the door. I contacted some door vendor and found out that the it was a custom door with a 6-week lead-time. I was in a panic mode and after many negotiations with the buyers agent offered a $2000 credit at closing and they accepted. Chris basically cost me $1500 by his whimsical changing opinion. He could have written in the report that the door had to be replaced. (I believe that the door could have been repaired). On top that his "customer service" behavior begs for some major improvements. He hung up in the middle of my conversation with him about this matter and left me a message not to call him ever again. Not even a simple apology. read more

I recently helped a friend deal with a termite infestation at her home. I scheduled 3 different companies to do a free inspection after reading various reviews. I invited a large contractor, a medium-sized local contractor, and a smaller independent contractor - CA Luce. The house had one known area of drywood termite infestation that my friend had noticed in an upstairs exterior wall. No other evidence was found during inspections. All 3 companies provided basically the same results with their inspection and gave us the options - Spot treatment (with no guarantee of success, since the spot treatment basically requires drilling holes near the infected area and injecting poison. If the termites exist anywhere else, they won't be killed). or Tenting and fumigation. This is the still the most recommended 'Gold Standard' treatment for making sure you kill all active termites in the structure. FYI, I inquired about the Orange Oil treatment that is widely advertised and supposed to not require leaving your home - all 3 companies told us that system was not effective. Do your own research if you're thinking about Orange Oil as an option. Prices for spot treatment ranged in price from 30%-50% of tenting and fumigation prices. Quotes for tenting and fumigation varied as follows: Large Big Name contractor was the most expensive, but carried the best warranty - 4 years. Medium-sized local contractor was ~10% less expensive and only had a 1 year warranty. CA Luce had the lowest price (~15-20%) less and had a 3 year warranty. Note: all 3 companies found additional work around the house they recommended for repair and offered quotes, but they weren't pushy about getting you to commit to that work. Chris Luce personally did the inspection and explained everything in detail and answered our questions. He seemed very knowledgeable and thorough. He also helped me make the decision to NOT get the roof damage insurance for tile roof damage - it's $150-$300 additional and there is really not much likelihood it will pay off. Previous research revealed that ALL termite companies sub-contract tenting and fumigation to the same 1 or 2 large firms in the area that do that exclusively. Chris confirmed that, so it's really about getting the best price, best service, and warranty. CA Luce won the work on those merits. Scheduling takes about a week lead time, and it's good to expect a day or so in doing prep work. When the tenting team showed up, they were amazingly fast and efficient - tenting the house in 1 1/2 hours. When done, they cleaned up and left the place as they found it. Tenting and fumigation is a hassle and you must vacate your home for two days and bag up all open food and personal hygiene items. We can only hope that it did the job. Bottom line - I would use CA Luce again and would recommend them for the job if you have a termite problem. read more

We used C.A. Luce Termite Control to inspect for termites and then for tenting and fumigation of our house. Their representative and I walked the perimeter of our house and he pointed out which plants might be harmed by the tenting. We were told to create a space 8" out from the house to avoid some plant damage where the tent would drop down. We had our landscaper do just that around the perimeter. Because we were leaving town Luce representatives assured us they would be responsible for notifying SDG&E to turn off the gas before tenting and then make sure the gas would be turned back on after tenting was completed. When we returned one week later the gas had not been turned on. There was extensive plant damage/death around the house, much more than we had expected. Our landscaper also commented that she had not seen so much damage and she has had experience with other clients doing termite tenting. Several bushes had been trampled and were dying. We had motion detection cameras in place during the tenting that showed they came back to remove the tent between 5:45 and 6:15 AM, in the dark, on that early Saturday morning. Aside from this being against code (7 am work start in Encinitas) it was also impossible to see as they dropped the heavy tarps in the dark. After arriving home we discovered our AC system was not working. When the repairman came he found the line to the compressor next to the house had been damaged and we were out another $1000 for repairs. Our biggest complaints have to do with the sloppiness and carelessness of the company and its tenting subcontractor who took no responsibility for damage. In fact Chris Luce was extremely rude in his conversations with me. When I discussed the work being done in the dark at 5:45 AM (as per the time stamped video) and that this perhaps was why there was so much additional damage, I asked who was there to supervise this. He pushed back and screamed into the phone "well, you weren't there either were you?" Of course we were not. Our house had been tented and had we not been out of town we'd have been off site anyway. We initially refused to pay until we resolved the damage issues but he threatened to put a lien on our house the next day, and to sue us if he hadn't received payment. We reluctantly paid in full. We see others have written complaints on Yelp, and his responses have been to deny responsibility and blame the customer. In our case at the very least he could have been understanding of our upset and concerns but instead chose to be belligerent and uncooperative. read more

They have a great system in place and with the organized efforts and great customer service from Michelle and Jennifer in the office, and Rick in the field, we were really happy with the service we received.
