I just really wanted the hot and sour soup. 2 hours until close, there was only half a bowl left, she asked me if I wanted it so aren't you gonna have more coming out and it seems like a very big deal to just want a whole bowl of soup. I am not sure about the soda station, they like 10 sodas and they only had two the other ones were out. The poor gal at the register asked the younger gal, who was running the food out, for help. The young girl just sat there and it seemed like it maybe wasn't her job, you would think of somebody asked for help the other staff could jump in as I just stand there. This was our first visit here. At first we weren't gonna stay because the place empty like literally no one but then a server came out so we stayed. She explained how to create our bowl so I made our kid bowls and my husband got the adult bowl. The food was pretty tasty the only downside was their soda machines were down, each one had an out or order post it on it. So I would definitely get that fixed before serving people because no soda at all won't go over well with customers. Overall though we will probably be back. read more

The Mongolian BBQ food itself is good, but that's it for this place. It is $19.25 for a bowl, up from just a few months ago, however they restrict the building of the bowl to ensure you cannot get a full $19.25 worth. You start with noodles and there are multiple signs to saying the bar is one directional so you cannot add meat until the end. Plus, an extra $2 for beef. Okay, $19.25 for a meal but it comes with rice, bread, and soup right? Correct. However, the rice appeared to be minute rice, and the egg drop soup had corn and the broth clearly consisted of the water the canned corn came in. The veggie soups was a beef and barley soup, without the beef. To top it all off, they started mopping in the middle of our meal and the whole restaurant smelled of cleaner. We were not the only ones that got up to leave at that point. Unfortunate that this is the only build your own Mongolian bbq place in town, guess this will have to be a Phoenix only meal because we will not be back to this place. read more

We've been to some pretty wonderful Mongolian bbq's in other towns and were a bit surprised that this is the only one that seems to be in Tucson. Everything was fine, the staff were friendly, they accommodated our party of 10 easily, the food was ok. You grab a bowl and head down the lane to put in your items for the grill. They start with all the veggies and the meat is added last. They had a nice variety of veggies and a good selection for sauces. As a person with diabetes, it would've been helpful to have the list of ingredients in the various sauces. There was pork, chicken, imitation crab, and beef (added an extra $2 charge which was kind of odd). They only had one person running the griddle and it looked like they could only do 2-3 bowls at a time. Because of that, it took awhile to get our food. The meal included choice of soup (I had egg drop), sesame bread (yum), and rice if you wanted it, so we had something to eat while waiting for our bowls. I went here this past Sunday with my husband and I hadn't been here for years! I was pleasantly surprised to find the same simple set up and laid-back atmosphere. We were there on an early Sunday afternoon and we were the only ones in the restaurant at this time. As you walk in, the bowls and food bar is set up right in front of you to just start making your bowl. When you're done, you give it to the chef who will cook it on the grill, you pay, and then you're able to find a place to sit and wait for your food. The prices have gone up to $18.75 a bowl including tax with an extra two dollars for beef which I do think is a little excessive, but if you pack your bowl, you get a good portion out of it (or bough to take another portion home) AND the meal includes a soup rice and a piece of bread. For the price you're paying, I do feel like they could give you more of the tasty sesame bread. My meal was great. I got the vegetable soup and enjoyed it. The hot & sour soup my husband got was mediocre. and I love that they have suggestions for the sauces to mix together at the end. I do wish they had seasonings you could mix in though and more sauce options (garlic, fish sauce, hoisin, etc.) After the 2 meals & two drinks ($2.50 each) I paid about $46 for the meal which is more than the past, but I also paid $30something at Egees for 2 meals the same week. I like Mongolian Barbecue, and so far this is the only place I have found here in Tucson. So we decided to give it a try! Place is not too big, we came on a Thursday, so it's quiet. I don't know how busy they get during weekends. As soon as you come in there is a counter set up with ingredients for the barbecue. Just go ahead and fill your bowl with ingredients you want then give it to the cook. Beware of the Hot sauce they have cause it's no joke! So basically you're making your choice and they'll cook it for you. I'm not too crazy about their soups specially the Egg drop soup. I had better. You have option of getting just one bowl for $17.99 or All you can eat for 24.99 plus tax. My advice is, better pack your bowl good! I liked it. Don't expect anything to be fancy here. The one-bowl meal was OK, but it's hard to know how much to add of each of the sauces, so sometimes it's overly spicy or just tastes weird. Very surprised and disappointed at their pricing system. Generally beef is included in the price at every Mongolian restaurant I've ever been to, but here they charge an extra $2 for meat. Another weird thing is that you are limited to one bowl for $18. So if you include beef, you are paying $20 for one small bowl. They do have an all-you-can-eat option for $26, or $28 with the beef. The food was tasty though. The service was okay/average. The ambiance was good. It was almost empty, which made it more relaxing. They also charge $3.50 for hot tea. I'm on the fence with recommending them, but I guess you have enough info here to make your own decision. read more

Let me start by saying I love Mongolian BBQ. Since leaving Washington State a few years ago these places have been hard to find! It's surprising to me there are not more Mongolian BBQ restaurants in the US since the food is so good! Thankfully this particular restaurant provided a taste of what I have been missing. Some little nuances were different but overall it was spot on. They have a small menu of pre-made choices or you can do the make your own bowl all you can eat (AYCE). One thing I found very weird was if you want to have beef in your bowl then you can't do the AYCE option. You can only make one bowl of food. They also have an upcharge of $2 if you add beef to your bowl. But if you stick to the other proteins or seafood only then you can do AYCE. Make sure to add plenty of sauces when building your bowl, and pile on the meats! I thought I had a lot of each but the meat cooks down quite a bit. Another difference is you don't get to stand and watch the cooks at the open grill make your food. That is something I looked forward to watching in the past. Here they give you a letter and bring the food to you. The food was great though. It satisfied my cravings and tasted delicious. They offer glass noodles here which I love! They also provide sesame bread, white or brown rice and egg flower or hot and sour soup sides. All in all we will definitely be back! read more

I was really excited to try C.I. Chu's. Prior to moving to Tucson I frequently would eat at Hu Hot which is a chain Mongolian BBQ restaurant and the standard which I was comparing C.I. Chu's. Upon walking in it feels dank. It was very dark but not in an intimate way, more in an abandon warehouse kind of dark. Immediately you are in line for building your bowl without a host/hostess or being seated. Unlike every other Mongolian BBQ I have been to it is not all you can eat (though they do have that option for a absurd price) you fix your bowl, mix your sauce, and choose your proteins. Be aware beef is $2 extra for some unknown reason. Then you set your bowl on a table take a number and a tray (that isn't needed) and pay. As for price (when adding beef) it was over $20 per person without drinks and a one bowl trip. While they also supply rice, soup, and some very tasty sesame bread (which is the one good thing) it is severely overpriced. The food itself was not great. The proteins were cooked to an almost shoe leather consistency and the sauce selection was lackluster. Overall I wish C.I Chu's was better because there isn't anything else like it here in Tucson that I am aware of, but unfortunately it isn't. TL:DR - Dank, overpriced, and unappealing. This place gets more restrictive and pricey every time I go. The food is good but 50 dollars for a two person lunch is ridiculous. I used to go to this place about 10 years ago and it rocked. You could go all the way around the veggies and meats bar and it was about 15-20 bucks for 1 person to get a 1 trip and a drink. Now you have to get the veggies first so the meat is the least thing you have room for, beef is 2 dollars up charge, and they're closed 2 days a week. Just some advice from a MBA grad, rethink your business model. The food is good but raising prices and closing 2 days a week is not the answer. Try lowering your prices and being more available. Utilize feedback! Lower prices equates to more customers and profit. You raise the prices, diminish availability, and become more restrictive you will lose customers. read more

This is a serve your self place where you make up your own bowl with a nice selection of veggies, noodles, meats and sauces. They than cook it for you and bring it to your table. Your meal comes with rice, soup, and bread. Drinks are extra. This time, I got a real surprise! At the end of the line, we were asked if we had any beef in our bowls. With further clarification needed further along, I will begin. This is a great place for a stir fry bowl. Here you will find a melody of assorted fresh veggies and a great potential for flavors with a variety of sauce choices. There are plenty proteins too -- from tofu, chicken, beef and even a seafood combo. So you ask what's the clarification? The clarification is.... once you hand your bowl over to the young man that cooks it on the grill for you, it becomes fair game -- which is now open to interpretation by the cooks. Once surrendered, they dose it and saturate it with their own variety of secret house sauces till you can't recognize the flavors you chose before it went to the grill. It now left its original state only to be reinvented and even mixed somewhat with the neighboring bowl being sautéed. The fact is the only thing I tasted once I got it delivered was pure soy sauce. I scooped out five soup spoons full of this secret sauce as to keep my rice from getting soaking wet in soy sauce soup. Additionally, after you handover your bowl, they have several soups to choose from and a sesame flat bread. The flatbread had good flavor but it was certainly under cooked and gummy inside. The soups all had one note flavor of sour. Neither me or my partner could eat any bread or soup. After eating I went up and asked casually at the counter, if they add in extra sauce. The cook informed me they surely do, and if I didn't want it all I had to do was request it to be left off. I guess next time I'll know. I will come back and maybe up the stars. If there's no crossover of the bowls and they leave out their own interpretation of sauces and keep mine as I handed it to them. read more

My husband and I have been going here for over 15 years! It's still one of our favorite places to eat. The prices have definitely gone up, and it is on the pricey side, but is well worth it. We usually get the all you can eat. So you can go up as many times as you want, and you get as much rice, soup and sesame bread you want. The sesame bread is delicious, especially when it's just made. You do have to make your own bowls, but the food always tastes fresh and is hot since they cook it right after you make the bowl and they take the bowls out to you once they are done cooking it. The service is good for what it is. Since it is pretty much self serve, there isn't much service. But the staff is helpful and willing to bring condiments if you ask and if you get the all you can eat, they will bring you more rice, soup, sesame bread. Solid lunch spot! This place shares the plaza with Crave coffee house and has been a destination for many lunches. They have a lunch special that comes with a bowl of whatever you want, soup, rice, and bread. I'm usually generous with the teriyaki sauce to give the food flavor, I feel I have to since the meat is frozen. I've never come out of this place not hungry. This place is a build your own stir fry bowl spot where you can choose a meat(s), rice or noodles, add veggie toppings, sauces, and your choice of 3 soups, rice, and Sesame bread. The bread was really good and unique almost as if you're eating a freshly cooked authentic flour tortilla. I decided to get the Warrior platter today which came with Bean Sprouts, Broccoli, Onions, Carrots, Lo Mein, Chives and I got Beef as my meat.
