Called earlier in the morning to inquire about the purchase of a fishing license. I was told yes, but the gun counter did not open until 9 a.m. I showed up at 11:30, and was told that they hadn't been able to sell them for over a year. Something to do with their computer crashing? Was visiting friends that live in Carson City and we did a stop to get dog food here. I had no idea what the store was about, but I absolutely love the idea that they have not only men's and women's apparel and accessories, but they also have livestock supplies and even little snacks to enjoy, lol! It's absolutely what I'd call a one stop shop but I did notice that a lot of their smaller sizes, at least within the women's items, were not in stock. Mind you I did go right after Christmas so possibly that's the reason but I did end up getting a phenomenal cow print faux fur jacket that stretches from shoulders to toes and my friend also got one too. It was listed at a fantastic sale price and there was no question once I found out it was discounted that we both HAD to have it-- and now that it's home with me, I absolutely don't regret it and cannot wait to wear it! Watch out for cal ranch they will rip you off. I bought a 50 dollar pair of carrhart pants at cal ranch took them home washed them and noticed the dye was bad on the front when I took them back to the store the "manager" who was not polite enough to introduce herself refused to exchange them because the labels were missing and she couldn't resell them. Thats probably how I ended up with defective pants resale fraud. I have reached out to cal ranch and carrhart and I have heard nothing. read more

Service is horrible, I always seem to have to track down somebody for help and then unfortunately none of the staff have any idea about anything Ranch or farm related or any of their equipment or products or where they are even located within the store! 2nd amendment . C-A-L Ranch in Carson has made up its own policy to refuse ammo sales to anyone from California. I was invited to go out shooting with my friends and thought I'd be courteous and bring some ammo and I was refused.. when I pressed the issue. They said it's just the policy of their store.... not the law and not a policy of C-A-L Ranch , nor is it on their website... Always solid experience at CAL Ranch. Second time pinching up chicks here and everything you need to raise em right, and boy do they have it all. We needed a waterer, starter feed and bedding to get them set up. We have a stock tank we use as a brooder and got the lightbulb elsewhere, so with that, we were ready to pick out our chicks. The store usually has 6-8 brooders in the store with a variety of breeds. I like the fact they have nice posters that give you some detail about them so you can make an informed decision. The female employee that helped us really took care of us. She really had her eye out for the healthiest and most age compatible birds, and when she saw we were looking for some additional variety, she took us in the back to see more than a dozen other breeds kept in the back! Early season usually means more variety, so your chances of this may lessen later on. We ended up with barred rock, Americauna, scarlet gem, light Brahma, and golden comet this time around and we're excited for them to grow. Chickens seriously are simple and fun. You should pick up some chicks yourself! read more

I went in to look at truck boxes. The product that I was interested in didn't have a SKU#. Employees were right on it. Ronnie scoured the internet to find the price of the box. It was taking some time. Meanwhile, my girlfriend calls me to pick her up from her appointment. I'm late now. Dang, should I stay? I rarely write bad reviews - but I am no longer going to this store. Too bad I really love the products. We have been purchasing our dog and cat food at Cal Ranch for years now. We have easily spent thousands. We were using the loyalty program where you get a free bag of food after purchasing 10 bags.  We have 31 proof of purchases for dog food. When we went in tonight to redeem our proof of purchase receipts the manager said they discontinued the program. I happened to drive through Carson today decided to swing in CAL Ranch since I haven't been there in years. I was looking at hats. There is no mirror close by I can find while trying on hats. I was also looking for yard decorations. There was no one around to help. Basically the customer service is pretty much nonexistent in this store. Well, at least they had someone standing at the cash register. I guess there's customer service at the cash register, but I I ended up not buying anything. The didn't have a bunch of other stuff that I didn't need though. I won't be going back to that store anytime soon. I'll buy elsewhere. If you live in Carson City and need to refill you BBQ propane tank, or need propane for anything else, this is the place to go! The price is way cheaper than the U-Haul store and it's convenient drive up too! No lugging your tank all around, just drive up to the propane filling station to the left in front of the store. There's a call button for an attendant to come out. He comes out and fills you right up! Load you car back up with the tank and go inside to pay. Easy, Easy! This is way cheaper than doing the tank exchange thing, like Blue Rhino! With those exchanges, many of the tanks are not even fill to full! OK, 80% capacity, as that's the max allowed to fill. Inside the staff is nice and they have all the stuff ranchers need, like fence posts and things to hook to the back of your tractor to grind up the ground. read more

I searched Reno, Sparks and some in Carson City looking for a particular firearm and it seemed everyone was out of stock.(no one could give me a time when they would be re-stocked). I called C-A-L ranch stores and was transferred to Firearms. I believed I talked to Jim and was very helpful in saying that had a few in stock. I drove from Sparks to Carson and had no problem finding the store. I was able to purchase one but have to go through the background check because they would not take my law enforcement ID. it should have only taken 20/30 minutes to clear me but I have to wait until they call me. All in all, I am very happy with my experience with C-A-L. read more

This is one great store! I'd never even heard of them before they decided to open up in Carson City. They moved into the old Safeway building. What a GREAT use for it! We attended the Grand Opening - and as expected, it was a zoo. But, I still managed to buy a pair of work boots (that I didn't know I needed until I saw them. You know how that goes). They've got lots of western wear and horse lover's stuff. Camping and fishing stuff. Hunting stuff (including a fairly good selection of all firearms). Hardware. Ranching and farm goodies (including live chicks of various types - none of which is familiar to me). Let me just say, they have a bit of 'everything'. I read these reviews and see how customers want things there way, I'm so confused how people can treat others like dirt because they find an item buy a sticker for $2.99 then think it's right when it gets to register at different price and they get mean and yell at the person's working like it's there fault, will here is some advise read the stickers or if you decide you don't want the item don't throw it any where you feel like cause the next customer won't read the sticker just the price and it makes the cashier job tough cause they aim to please even though you can't please everyone they still try. I'm not a rancher, cowgirl or farmer type by any means. I don't have horses or livestock nor should I even be allowed to but I absolutely love this store. It's so much fun to browse and shop here. I love everything about it. They have some cool clothes, great belts and really cute unique purses. I bought a super cute blingy belt for my jeans here for $60 ( a splurge for me) and saw the exact same one after at a Brighton store at the mall for more than twice that amount. They have great unique yard decor, seeds, gardening supplies, hunting gear, awesome tire swings made to look like ponies for the kids, bunnies, kayaks, camping stuff, boots, sandals, pet supplies, and of course farm equipment and ranch stuff and everything in between. This store cracks me up! Cowboy boots, horse injection needles, and hard candies - what more can you ask for? It's Pioneer Woman meets Home Depot meets Martha Stewart meets John Deere. Prices overall were really decent for the most part. I laughed when I overheard two store clerks, both crotchety grandfatherly types, discussing one daughter's pregnancy: "She got all nausepated - I mean vomity - I mean, you know, throwuppity - the first few months."
