The gentleman who helped me, Walter, was great. He was genuinely helpful and easy to work with. At pickup, we went through the pre-inspection fairly thoroughly, which I appreciated because it felt like he actually cared about making sure we were on the same page before I drove off. Then, he offered to wash the car down and fill the tank to full before sending me on my way. A small gesture, but it helped saved me a couple stops & time, which helps if you're traveling with family..

For this reason, you would think that they would not take reservations that begin at closing time. The next day, I called and asked if I could still receive a car with the originally quoted price. I assumed that since I arrived for my reservation the previous day, they would honor my original price. Instead, they said they could still give me a car, but quoted me a price of 3x more than my original reservation. All around a negative experience. Customer service needs to be improved.

It was the best decision we could have made. ​I literally booked a reservation with Alamo on my phone five minutes before walking up to their desk at Phoenix Sky Harbor. Not only did they seamlessly honor the ultra-last-minute booking, but the agent, Ahmed and his manager (didn't get his name),, went completely above and beyond. Recognizing our tight schedule and frustration with the previous company, Ahmed took incredible care of us and gave us a fantastic vehicle to get us on the road immediately. ​Ahmed's outstanding hospitality and quick thinking turned a stressful travel day completely around. He even told me how to bypass the annoying AI chat customer service if I needed to contact them on the Hertz phone number. This guy gets customer service and no issues whatsoever with this location. In and out in 10 min. You do have less selection and the cars are stored in a normal strip mall parking lot. I can't speak for coming here when it's the weekend or more packed. If you have your heart set on the car in your reservation, look elsewhere as the nature of these small locations is you basically just get what's available that day. Go to the airport location if you are very picky about your cars.

To try and avoid the usual issues, I even had an executive customer service representative (Laura S.) reach out to this locations manager two weeks prior to my rental to ensure everything was set. None of it mattered. I still arrived and was given a Ford Expedition instead. This has now happened multiple times with different hertz locations, so clearly reservations -- even with corporate involvement -- don't mean much at this location and others. The condition of the vehicle made it worse. It was dirty, worn, three different brand of tires and had over 60,000 miles on it -- not even close to what you expect when paying for that class of vehicle. Here's the part that really pushed it over the edge: I returned the vehicle to the airport location, and somehow I was charged a cleaning fee. That's right -- I was given a dirty vehicle and then charged as if I returned it that way. As an employee stated it's just big and dirt baked on by the Arizona sun. On top of that, trying to contact the location was a joke. Calls were being unanswered or immediately hung up. Between the wrong vehicle, poor condition, lack of accountability, and being hit with an unjustified cleaning fee, I'm done. I've already canceled multiple future reservations in 5 different cities and will be taking my business elsewhere. If you actually expect to receive the vehicle you reserved -- or even a clean one -- I would strongly suggest looking at other rental companies.
