    Lamb Tawook
    Lulu T.

We were looking for a mediterranean restaurant for dinner and ran into this little charm in Fed Hills. We were greeted by the owner who was very nice and humble. I got the lamb tawook which was soo good, we ordered another one. Will definitely go back. One fun fact is that the owner is also a painter and his paintings are hanging in the restaurant and are for purchase. He also told me that he does drawing and painting classes. Try it!

Byblos is a wonderful little spot. The owner is a painter who has a canvas in the back and decorated the place with his paintings. He was really nice and the falafel was tasty. I loved the wooden slab tables, which had rustic, unfinished edges.

Overall: service was very good, the outdoor seating was nice, but the food was pretty average. My friend and I stumbled upon this place while looking for some lunch in Federal Hill. It was a seemingly family owned spot serving everything you would expect from a Lebanese spot. We were greeted very promptly, our server was extremely kind and welcoming, and helped us navigate through the menu. We decided on the Shish Tawook platter and the Lahmehbaajeen pie which ended up being the perfect amount of food for two. The shish tawook platter came with the marinated grilled chicken, a cucumber and tomato salad, rice, hummus and pita which I felt was a great amount of food for the price. Overall, it was good, but I felt it was lacking in flavor a little. However, the Lahmehbaajeen pie was the star of the show for me. It was crispy with beautifully seasoned beef inside. Side note: The seem-to-be owner is responsible for all the beautiful art inside, which is for sale to the public as well.

I went here with a friend for the first time, both craving some sort of Mediterranean food. Service: Friendly guy, one-person show for the front of house on a weekday night. Ambiance: Nice outdoor seating when it's some good weather, although it was full so we sat inside. Wodden-style tables and some interesting dark art on the wall. Food: -Maza platter: As a vegetarian, I asked for the recommendation of a popular vegan platter, thinking it might be the falafel or possibly the mousakaa; however, I was recommended the maza platter. I was hesitant a bit as it sounded more like an appetizer platter containing hummus, babaganoush, tabbouleh salad, mouhamara, and grape leaves. However, I still went with it per recommendation. I enjoyed the dolma and the mouhamara the most. The tabobouleh salad was fresh, and the babaganoush and hummus were decent. Unfortunately, the pita bread (forgot to photograph) was pretty sad. It was dry, cold, thin and hard. -Baklava: Pretty bad. The dough was not flaky or browned on top. -Also, it seemed that thewere out of potentially popular items, like the sheikh el mehsheh combo as well as the kounafa dessert, which was unfortunate for us. The filling was unusually bland, not savory nor sweet. Felt like there was pretty little effort put into it. I felt this place had some components that were okay, but others that were not. Thus it was not particularly memorable especially given the several other mediterranean options in the city.

When I hear advice to eat more Mediterranean diet this is what I imagine. Cute cozy dining space, the ambiance is conducive for quiet/creative introspection with a variety of local artwork or a relaxing meal with the family. Everything is prepared fresh, portions are generous and satisfying but delicious food prepared well leaves us energized, not sluggish. Kounafa and toasted nut Baklava is the perfect dessert. Try with some fresh brewed tea leaves. Service is impeccable, Ryan took very good care of us throughout. A must try in Federal Hill!!

Appetizer: Baked Kebbeh - this came with salad. The spices in the kebbeh were subtle, but my bf and I really enjoyed this as an appetizer. It made us look forward to the actual entree. Entrees: I chose the Chicken Shawarma Combo - very disappointing. The chicken was extremely dry. The sauce covering it was good, but not enough to cover the dryness of the meat itself. My bf chose the Mixed Lamb & Chicken Kafta Tawook. His protein tasted better than mine, but it was still "average" compared to other grilled meats we've tried before. The portion sizes were a bit smaller than what I'm used to. It's a reasonable portion though. I'm just used to being able to have leftovers at restaurants. The entree took quite a while to arrive despite there only being one other table of customer at the time. I had high expectation because of all the raving reviews, but unfortunately my experience fell short of that expectation. Great interior though!

I can't believe it took me so long to make it to Byblos! I wish I had made it hear sooner. My wife and I stopped in for dinner on NYE. The atmosphere is very warm and cozy. Cool wooden tables, beautiful art on the walls. It was exactly what we were looking for at the end of a long and tiring year. We ordered a mix of appetizers since it was our first time. While everything was solid, the highlights were the meat pie, the tabbouleh, and the stuffed grape leaves. Next time we go back I think we will have to get a full order of the grape leaves instead of just a sampler. Might also try the meat pie again and/or some of the other pie options. For dinner we split an eggplant and chickpea dish. The chickpeas were some of the best I have ever had at a restaurant, both flavorful and tender without being mushy. While all the food was solid, I think the thing that really made this a 5 star experience was the service. The owner was very friendly and was always quick to swing by when we needed anything without ever feeling like he was hovering. Even after we finished our meal we stuck around for some time finishing our BYOB wine and enjoying ourselves. Can't wait to go back!

Family run business with delicious Lebanese food! The best part-- it's byob with no corkage fee! Their hummus is delicious and you can tell their pita is fresh. Photos are from two separate visits, I love their falafel platter and I tried their eggplant one for the first time which was delicious! Highly recommend both. The spinach pie was also really good-- crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I've had some of their other dishes too, including baba ghonush and the veggie keebeh which I would also recommend! Honestly you cannot go wrong! I am vegetarian and they have lots of things on the menu for me and I appreciate that, most of these items are vegan too! For meat eaters, my friends I went with last week had the chicken platter and they enjoyed it! Inside, the decor is very cute, it feels very homey. Parking isn't too bad to find, but is often paid in fed hill. I usually end up parking a few blocks away. The owner of the restaurant is very kind and always checks up on you!

Great dinner with friends! We came around 6 on a Friday and it wasn't too crowded at all. They have a good size menu that is not overwhelming but still gives you many options. We brought a bottle of wine to share as they have cork free BYOB! They gave us wine glasses to use, so great. The server was extremely kind and wasn't overbearing. Food was decent but nothing special. I would come Back for the good ambiance and good service!

From the start, the server seemed pushed to sell additional items, and her attitude was off. We decided to ignore her and enjoy our meals instead. After we finished eating, she came over and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. When I said no thank you, her demeanor changed. Then I requested the bill, and she brought it. We still tried to overlook her poor attitude. I was shocked to find that she had added a 48% tip without informing me. I questioned her about the discrepancy in the bill amounts compared to the previous one. She said she needed to check and would get back to me, but when she returned, she concocted a story claiming she had charged my card for another tap. Which could have happened, but she just brought it without checking. When I asked if she had double-checked before bringing the bill to me, she remained silent and just looked at me. Strangely, the manager never approached us to apologize; he just observed from a distance. Which was very funny, I have never felt like this before. Given the similar reviews I had seen, I didn't believe her story. I will never return to this place, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone in town. There are many other options available. Don't let them scam you. The management should be ashamed for allowing scammers to victimize their customers repeatedly.

Eggplant and hummus were simmered until soft and flavorful, with a subtle smoky aroma. The addition of mint leaves enhanced the flavor. Bone Marrow: Beef tartare with bone marrow and pomegranate seeds--how interesting! The first two provided a rich, fatty texture and intense aroma, while the latter burst in your mouth occasionally, juicy, tangy, and refreshing. Brussels Sprouts: Brussels sprouts with grapes, walnuts, fig jam, and mint yogurt--a whimsical yet magical combination... The Brussels sprouts offered a fresh, vegetal aroma and a slightly roasted aroma; the walnuts provided a nutty richness and crunch; the fruit provided a fresh sweet and sour taste and plenty of juice; and the yogurt acted as a binder between the flavors while adding a touch of minty coolness. Duck Shawarma: My friend and I thought: ...Peking duck? The skin was soft, the meat tender, not gamey, with a subtle smoky flavor; the fig and lemon sauce was sweet and refreshing; the small pita pillows held the meat securely, better than the lettuce what might have been too cold. Lamb Stuffed Grape Leaves: Black rice was wrapped in grape leaves and simmered with minced lamb. The rice absorbed the fragrance of the grape leaves, similar to lotus leaves (my friend and I thought: lamb version of sticky rice chicken糯米雞...?). The lamb, however, was served separately at the bottom of the pot and didn't absorb much flavor; overall, it was intensely sour. In short, this dish was a bit oddly designed, and it was the only one we didn't finish because the sourness was unbearable. Pita Bread: The bread was thin yet chewy, with a rough, slightly powdery surface, making it substantial and satisfying. I especially loved the "everything wrapped in a big pancake" style! KenScale: 8.5/10 Visit: March 2026…read more My wife Jun and I have been to Albi multiple times already and on every visit we end up ordering the exceptional lamb kebabs for our final savory dish. Earlier this year, I saw that the restaurant started offering a large duck rice dish on the menu and, knowing how much Jun loves duck, tried to see if I can book a table. We had a reservation in January but we had to cancel that due to a last-minute trip to New York, and really struggled to find an open seating on a reasonable hour (we just had no appetite for a dinner past 9 p.m.) until recently last month. As we opened up the menu, we were very sad to learn that the duck was no longer on the menu (our server couldn't give a definitive time on when the dish will be back), but that didn't dampen our enthusiasm for another outstanding meal at Albi. Since my last review of the restaurant was in 2023, I figured a re-review was in order, especially given that this visit was our 10th total. When it comes to Middle Eastern spreads, it's hard to beat what Albi offers along with a giant pita bread. At this point, Jun had tried the mushroom hummus with confit egg yolk multiple times, and yet she couldn't again stop marveling how addictively delicious the hummus was with alluringly smoky flavor of mushroom. One new spread that we saw for the first time and decided to order was msabaha with embered firefly squid and white peas covered in tahini; not surprisingly, it was another standout dish even if squid is not an ingredient one would ordinarily see in these spreads. Another item on the menu that we tried for the first time (and really liked) was malfouf, a wrap of cabbages stuffed with smoked beef cheek and red shatta condiment. By now, we have seen multiple variations of the lamb kebabs at Albi and every time we walked out of the restaurant happily stuffed. For the current season, we were greeted with loin and smoked belly shish accompanied by vegetables of charred turnips and brassicas. The lamb's texture as usual was quite outstanding, and the charred vegetables (as well as a side dish of Fattoush salad with orchard fruits and smoked feta) also offered a wonderful complement to the meat. If someone asks me to list the most iconic dishes in DC, I won't hesitate to include the lamb kebabs from Albi. During our trip to Jordan in February, we fell in love with a popular dessert called knafeh (made with pastry dough layered with cheese and soaked in syrup); we never had a chance to try the same from Albi until this visit, and Jun remarked that the delightful knafeh was just like how she remembered from a restaurant in Petra, except the pomegranate sorbet that was placed in the middle. It seems like getting a reservation at Albi is becoming more and more difficult over time. The reservation window opens on the first day of each month and once past that first day, it is really challenging to find a seating during early and prime-time dinner windows, especially for the main dining room. This visit was the first time we had to be seated at the bar as we were slightly late to the reservation party, but the bar seating actually wasn't bad at all, as we chatted with the friendly bartenders from time to time while enjoying the food. As always, the beverage list at Albi is outstanding, featuring many Middle East-based cocktails and wines. As we increasingly find ourselves in our culinary journey together these days visiting our old favorites more often rather than checking out new places all the time, Jun and I are very thankful that Albi is in DC. It still is firing on all cylinders even after being around for several years in the DC dining scene, and deserves to be one of the best restaurants in the city.
