Our group has been waiting a year to come back here, but was met with pure disappointment the moment we entered the door. This is the reason this isn't a 5 star review again. The lady that is front of house was rude, and I mean extremely rude. I gave her my name and number for our reservation like everyone else. We waited and then when we were second in line I just wanted to follow up with her how much longer it would be so I could relay this information to the rest of our group of 4. She replied with "I texted you didn't you get it!?" Legit yelling at me for just a simple question. She then tossed our menus on the table and said you are here and left. I can't stress enough how this just sent the worst image of the establishment. Our waitress, and food was absolutely worth the wait! We also asked if we could squeeze one more person with us ( since there was 5 empty booths and 3 empty tables) and our 2 extra got yelled at for even asking this from the same lady. They were so turned off they just left. Will we come back, yes, because of the absolutely delicious food and great wait staff. Will I legit walk out and turn around without a second thought if I see this lady when I come back next year. Yes. One of my favorite places in La Crosse. Food and drinks here are always on point. I loved their blackened prime rib w/ the garlic mashed potatoes. Their hush puppies are so crispy and airy. Red beans and rice are well seasoned as well. Chicken Czarina is also another one of my favorites! It comes with Gulf shrimp, sliced mushrooms, and green onions sauteed in a creole style Parmesan cream sauce, ladled over a hand-breaded fried chicken breast. Served with dirty rice and maque choux. I've also tried their gumbo, I've had better gumbo than the one here. I felt like there was too much chunky tomato but it has a nice bite. Not very spicy edible for anyone who isn't really into spicy things. Least favorite was the corn crab soup. My bad! I didn't realize it came with imitation crab rather than the real crab. So the menu does specify it utilizes Surimi. Place gets very loud! It's always poppin' they also have a bar next door. And the infamous bar upstairs called the Starlight Lounge. I can't believe it took us so long to try Buzzard Billy's. To be fair, we go to the upstairs Starlite Lounge frequently and will order nachos from downstairs, but we have never actually eaten in Buzzard Billy's until recently and I'm glad we did! The atmosphere in Buzzard Billy's is fun and the service we had was fantastic! Portions are HUGE! I got the jambalaya, and had enough for a whole meal as leftovers. My husband got a half order of the rasta pasta which was a good size. Both meals were fantastic, and my husband has been craving that rasta pasta since we went! If you're there at a busy time and are waiting for a table, you can go upstairs and get a fantastic cocktail from Starlite while you wait. Definitely a place worth checking out! read more

Another absolutely wonderful dinner at Buzzard Billy's. Tonight I tried the Creole Crab Corn Soup. This may be a new go-to for me. The flavor was impeccable. Slightly Cajun seasoned and full of lovely crab pieces. Almost wish I had ordered a bowl and skipped the dinner part, but alas, I do love their Blackened Chicken Alfreadoux. This is my current favorite dish here. I plan my visits to LaCrosse to make sure I make it to Buzzard Billy's. Maybe one day I will try something new. Had an early dinner here today. All the food was great. Absolutely yummy. Our waitress was polite and funny (she dished back our goofiness) and attentive without being intrusive. We went here last week with a rather large party and the customer service was great. It was pretty busy for a Monday but it definitely had a great vibe. The food was phenomenal- it is a fun pub atmosphere, and the service was great even though we were there at the busy time.

This was a mixed visit, but an overall 3.5-star rating. For starters, the bacon-wrapped andouille, although a great concept, failed to "bring home the bacon." It was a bit bland, and with all the potential, a major disappointment. On the other end, the blackened shrimp were fantastic. Rich, buttery, cooked to perfection. My only complaint with this dish was (as you might be able to see) it was mostly a plate of rich and veggie, with a bit modest serving of shrimp. First of all service was outstanding but the food was awful! I had the Jerk Pulled Pork sandwich and it was WAY overcooked and dry. Today, May 17 2025 is graduation day in La Crosse and a very busy day for them so not being prepared is no excuse for terrible food. We were there at 2:45 pm today so there is no way the food was sitting around all day drying out. This was the worst pulled pork sandwich I have ever had. My son got the chicken sandwich and it too was way overcooked and dry and terrible. My Daughters BF got the red beans and rice and it too was overcooked and dry. My daughter the shrimp Creole and it was okay. The other couple got several appetizers and both of them were overcooked and dry also. I didn't want to punish the servers with a bad tip as they aren't the cooks or kitchen manager so I left them a good tip cause they were all awesome. But if I were the manager or owner I would be embarrassed of the dry overcooked food quality! read more

The food choices were unique to this area - New Orleans style food. There are still many other traditional choices. The atmosphere, portions, and quality of food-ALL fantastic along with the price. Our table ordered gator fingers, jambalaya, BBQ mac, and chicken tchoupitoulas. Everything was cooked properly and seasoned to perfection. Great food, and a fun place to eat. If you like Cajun but are stuck up north this is the place to go.

Visited this LaCrosse location this weekend as well as Nebraska earlier this year. The third is in Des Moines. For a Midwest small chain Cajun restaurant it's fantastic. Good quality is great. Jambalaya, gumbo, drinks all good. All in all the food and fare was excellent for being outside the Big Easy. Modestly spiced. Service was struggling but there were ample signs throughout noting they were understaffed. Even with that, no complaints. Delightful. read more

So was in town for work and saw all the reviews from Yekp on the place! Close to the Courtyard which was nice! Here are the positives -Service was definitely very good (Sarah the bartender) -Decor is awesome -crab corn chowder was very good and flavorful! A little heat too was a good add -nice beer selection and liquor options -nice size menu -good portion especially for a very reasonable price! Things I was not over impressed with -the brisket Mac and cheese was not a hit! The brisket was decent but the Mac and cheese was pretty tangy cheese like it was a cheese whiz sauce and not a fresh made cheese sauce! I will definitely go back and try something else as I know many have said very positive things...I just want to warn you on the cheese sauce on the Mac and cheese! Love this little gem! Great spot with great atmosphere. The wait staff was fantastic and very helpful with the menu and making recommendations on what to order. Highly recommend the Seafood Gumbo. The bacon wrapped andouille was excellent as well. Buffalo wings were meaty with great flavor. By all accounts, every item on the menu ordered by our group was very good! It was recommended that I come here from a local and I was very excited to try it. I had just had a flight cancellation from the airport and was ready to enjoy a good dinner. Unfortunately my group had to wait over an hour for food, the server we had did not check up on us in any regular interval either leaving our drinks empty. When my food finally did come it was wrong. Food was good, but I would have rather had good service somewhere else. Also no compensation for our wait was offered, no explanation as to why our food took an hour, and when I asked about a military discount I was told "no... well yes but you have to be in uniform." Which didn't sit right with me considering the service we had just had. Nice looking place, but yeah... if this is an option you're considering, I would consider other options. *and I understand this is a sample size of their day to day and obviously it's not always like this and there are things out of their control. read more

Hubby wanted to try this place on his birthday. We were really excited to try a new place. He ordered a mai tai and was told they don't make them. The he ordered the steak dinner and they were out of steaks. Our drinks took forever on a Thursday night at 5pm. Gave me enough time to look around to see how filthy the place is. The menus were sticky, as was the floor. All of the fan blades are coated in dust. So everyone eating there is ingesting this filth. It's in your hair, on your clothes and in your food. We drank our drinks, paid or tab and left. Thankfully Uno Pizzeria is a few blocks away. Amazing food, excellent customer service and beautiful patio. read more

Don't make a reservation on yelp. They "turn it off" although they confirm your reservation. And then even though you check in at the desk as instructed, it's somehow your fault when they forget to seat you. Hoping the food is delish to upgrade this!
