I cannot believe that Marigold - Gateway to India was on S. Lamar when I lived on S. Lamar. Walking into the shop felt like being transported to Bangalore or Rajasthan, India. Marigold is rooted in vibrant color, texture, and uniquely Indian pieces. The overhead draped colorful cloth added to the ambience. The store offers a curated selection of Indian clothing, jewelry, accessories, and gifts. The quality and variety of the merchandise was immediately noticeable. From traditional and contemporary clothing for women, men, and children to unique accessories and decorative pieces, everything feels authentic. Lata, the owner, was super nice and welcoming! When the exact suit I wanted was not readily available in store, Alex took the initiative to look for alternatives online and recommended that I order one. The online sizing chart was a little confusing, but she still helped me understand the measurements and choose the right size with confidence. She even went beyond that by looking into tailoring options for me. After I left Macy's, I had some disappointing experiences at nearby stores. I ended up returning because Alex had provided such a personalized and helpful experience. Even when I came back a week later to try on the suit I ordered and get her opinion, she followed up with the same care and helped me look up another tailor for alterations before my event. Alex is exactly the kind of associate who makes shopping in person worthwhile. Her patience, initiative, authenticity, and attention to detail are things you simply cannot always get from online shopping or AI. Not sure it is a factor of getting older and wiser, but being the first the purchase a holiday trinket or buying something only because it is 75% off is no longer a draw for me. It's one of the larger Ross stores I've been in. I found some socks that I needed to buy and went to the amusement park line to the cashier. Here you can find lots of impulse snacks and gadgets. These stores always get busy mid afternoon just when your thinking your missing all the people picking up stuff after work. They had one cashier but the line started to get long so they opened another cash register. Ross has always been the lower end of the big 3 and they've always had security guards at the door even in the late 1900s. This one was slightly different as they inspect your bags and look at your receipt before leaving - I suggest going to Melrose nearby or drive further out to a Marshall's or TJ Maxx if you can so you don't have to deal with the feeling like you are in prison.
