I've been coming for over 15 years here because I have a hard to fit size and they never fail to have 2 or more bras I can walk out the door with. They have even have pretty bras for us bigger sized girls not just the utilitarian types. If I had a complaint it would be the wait time but it's worth it !! Bonus that it's a local family owned store. Value? I can't really put a price on getting a good fit! I think it's a good bargain for me but I can't get bras at Target so...??? A decade in Austin, and I just discovered Petticoat Fair. I needed a new bra, and decided to let someone pick it for me. As soon as you enter the store, you can sign up at cashier to be measured/helped. When my name was called, Sabrina took me to the back with many changing rooms, she measured me, and the first bra she brought to try fit perfectly. The sizing was completely different compared to what I came in wearing, and I instantly knew I made a right decision to update my bras. I spent a good chunk of time trying various styles and finally settled on couple different ones. It was definetely worth the time and investment. I am already planning my next visit. Great place to go if you need to know what size bra you should be wearing now (our bodies change, ya know!) or even better for a young teen who is just starting out on the whole bra experience and learning how a proper one fits. I've tried ordering so many bras online and it never works out. Since I have a bust bras either don't have enough support or they are super granny style and not sexy. Enter Petticoat Fair. I came in on a Thursday around 3pm and signed up to be measured and the girl helping me ( so sorry I don't remember her name but she had curly black hair! ) was awesome. She brought in so many cute bras it was hard to pick out which ones I could leave behind ! I will literally never buy bras from anywhere else again. I think I might be the odd man out because I might be the only review on here that isn't five stars. On the positive side, the shop is lovely and the staff is attentive. Very friendly and provide a great atmosphere. This store came highly recommended to me based on the fact that I needed to be properly fitted for the perfect bra. It threw me off when the sales associate measured me through my clothes, especially when my top/shirt was rather thick. I wasn't sure how she could get an accurate measurement but I figured she is the expert so I went with it. After we discussed my needs she brought me a lot of bras to try on. I was disappointed to find only 2 or 3 that worked for me. I'm a cup size of a triple D and the bras she brought to me only had two hooks in the back. I told her that I needed one with more hooks because they provided more support. She informed me that bras with underwire support only have two hooks and cannot have more because of how high the underwire comes up on the sides. I was so confused but continued to try on several more bras. In the end I reluctantly bought 3 bras which were more like sports bras. The associate was so kind that I didn't want to spend all that time with her and not make a purchase. Probably a mistake on my part.... their bras are very expensive. After returning home I went online and found a popular bra brand, in my size that had underwire and 4 hooks in the back. It was a fourth of the cost. All that being said, I'm know this store has been around for years with lots and lots of women who have had great success finding what they need. I received excellent attentive service from Priscilla, who listened to my needs and brought me many bras that worked for me. Sizing is tricky as there is so much variability between brands, and even styles within the same brand. I bought 3 full-priced bras which was a big hit on my small income. Let me tell you about this remarkable woman that had change my life in ways I never thought possible. I am a big breasted woman with Avery small frame and I can not wear wired bras because of my bone disease. She has taken me from those to non wire bras that fit perfectly on my body. The first one I bought I went on a cruise and for 5 days I only got to wear it twice. It was too loose around for me and they don't make them smaller. That being said I went back to my favorite woman Alexis and she got it altered three inches taken in. I also bought another one from her and had them do the same for me. She has found me sexy supportive non wire bras that make me comfortable and sexy. I'm a 30 G. We took 3 inches off both and they fit like they are apart of my body. I've been coming to Petticoat Fair for almost a decade now. I don't even live in Austin anymore, but continue to make trips in because of the wonderful experiences I've had in the past. That being said their business model must have changed recently because my last trip here was lacking. I visited with the intention of buying 2-3 new bras knowing that I had grown out of my previous ones. I was greeted immediately upon arriving by a very kind and friendly associate manning the front. I waited maybe 10-15 minutes to be paired with a fitting consultant. All good experience so far. Once Kaitlyn took me back, I explained what I was looking for, including styles that had been successful for my body type in the past and she measured me and brought in options. After finding what was supposed to be "my size" she brought in more options, maybe about 10-12 to try on. She checked on me once, and I had maybe tried on 3-4 bras. I had some concerns about the fit, and asked for different sizing which she said she'd bring. To my surprise a few minutes later I instead hear her working with a different client. Since their business model was always that your fitter works with you until your purchase is completed, this was a surprise for me!She never returned to check on me or brought me any additional sizes. I felt that many of the items she brought me would've been good to purchase if the sizing was accurate. Everything felt loose around my torso and generally misfitting. I ended up buying the one bra that fit the best because I needed one, but now will have to visit another shop to be accurately fitted and find styles that work for me. read more

I've shopped at Petticoat for the last 16 years.Today will be the last time I shop there. I was fitted for a bra that after a short time wearing (drive home) dug into my skin and left it tender. I went back for an exchange the next day( which I've done one other time in the past without issue) and was denied the exchange. I was told to buy tape to make my new $80 bra fit comfortably. Buyer beware!!! The sales associate will encourage you to wear it out of the store, even taking the tags off for you at the register. Don't let them pop the tag off until you know for sure it works! I received a rude response back from someone at their store claiming that I was not a customer in the past and was not told to wear the garment out. Be careful doing business with people that refuse to admit there faults! Many great associates have worked at this boutique. I'm a bit skeptical about the new ones. Good luck! read more

I've been going to Petticoat Fair for several years and always appreciate their customer service, but the prices can be high. I returned to get a new strapless bra for a wedding. I was fortunate to visit during one of their rare sales. They had bins filled with bras at great discounts. I recommend trying on everything though, as sizes and fit can vary between brands. I had to wait a while for a fitting as they were short staffed, but once I was in the fitting room, I never felt rushed. The saleswoman listened to my needs and pulled a variety of options, and even included some sale items. Because of this, I ended up buying 2 bras, and spent less than $90! The four stars is because of the wait, but I will return in the future. read more

I have to give this place credit for stocking bras that fit ridiculous sizes like mine (changed from a 32DDD to a 32J now), and have a diversity of sizes and products for people that normally don't have their sizes stocked in any retail store in person (see above). It's just that they're so routinely and blatantly anti-LGBT+. I really tried to give this place a try. However, they are a place I recommend only to cisgender straight women. If you're cis and straight, the worst you worry about is a wait time and possibly usual rudeness, as well as a strict return policy and some public shaming. Meh, nothing unusual. But for me? I've been asserting my pronouns every visit for YEARS and finally just walked out when, as usual, they completely ignored and disrespected this. The real straw on the camel's back? After waiting for a fitting (already an uncomfortable experience), the fitter greeted me with this massive, fake smile and raised her voice, laughing "OH, WE'RE ALL WOMEN HERE." That single fitter cost that business not only the $300+ I was easily primed to spend that visit, but honestly the rest of my money, period. They are ABYSMAL at treating nonbinary/trans customers with basic courtesy, and BADLY NEED a queer awareness training. I'd frankly offer my services if I didn't know from experience they have no interest in listening to anyone that, again, isn't straight and cis. Their bras are fine. Their service can be fine. The store is quiet and not too heavily fragranced, which is a plus over department stores. LGBT+ people, I'm proof that we're not welcome here. Edit/Response: This was indeed the last straw from several months ago. And absolutely consistent with the standards upheld over years with this store. "Some people will be mad"? How can a store keep records of name change, bra size, and be absolutely helpless to give a guest basic courtesy like pronoun respect? This was posted as a heads up to other queer folks, after feeling this sense of joy when an order arrived from shopping elsewhere for the Soak Flatter sprays of my choice: and not a single person along the way disrespected me in the course of buying and receiving the product. What a luxury! The sheer joy I felt in getting what I want or need without being repeatedly misgendered (note for the owner: "miss-gendered" it is not) at a minimum is so refreshing. Any time you mention a lingerie need - getting measured for a bra, underclothes for specially-cut outfits, something exciting for your adventures, people in the know say: GO TO PETTICOAT FAIR. I've been hearing this since I moved to Austin in 2003, but I always assumed it was a place to high-brow for me. And honestly it probably was for a long time, but I recently had BA surgery and since I haven't owned a bra in a literal decade, I wanted to start my journey off with a professional fitting. I cannot imagine things having gone better than they did here. I went in three times in one week. First, on a Saturday with an empty stomach when the wait was longer than I preferred to stay (I was there 30 minutes and was no where near getting seen, but the desk staff told me I'd be seen much faster on a weekday morning. You cannot make appointments and sign in at the front desk to get a spot for a fitting). I came back on a Wednesday morning and was helped by Jessica - who not only got me seen in the 15 minutes I had left (I did still have to wait about 20 minutes to get seen) but found me multiple things I liked according to my style and comfort preferences that was within my budget (which I hadn't even mentioned - so it was great to see they weren't just going to try to send me away with the most expensive items). I got home and told my husband about it, and was so excited that we came back the next day for him to pick something out for me. They used the room that have for just such occasions (actually the room specially made for post-mastectomy bra-wearers) and the experience was respectful and delightful. I had Jessica again and she did a great job pining my tastes and bringing what I needed- even though it was a totally different request than the day before. The BEST place to buy bras in Austin. In fact, it is the only place I go when I need to purchase a bra. The fitting specialists are so helpful and knowledgeable. They take your time with you and ensure that your needs are met. Because of this 1:1 consulting the wait can be a little long during busier times on the weekend. However it is worth it. Special sizing needs? No problem. They cover it. Moderately priced to high end offerings? Yep, they do that too. Having trouble finding underwings for a special occasion dress? They can help. Tip: if you go during December or January, you might catch their big clearance sale and score even better deals. read more

Edited after business response: She wasn't looking for additional swimwear. She was only looking for an alternate size for a swimsuit already in the fitting room - which shouldn't take 15 minutes! Your excuses and lack of accountability make me even more frustrated. I expect to wait for a fitter - which was 20 minutes (not bad). But what I don't expect is after I'm taken back to a fitting room, to wait 15 minutes each time the fitter goes to look for another size. I think the fitters must have 2-3 clients at a time as I heard her voice working with another client. After standing around waiting in the fitting room for 15 minutes not once by twice, I left. It can't take 15 minutes to check on a size. I don't have 2 hours to spend in the store waiting for assistance. If the benefit of the store is fitters, ensure you have enough to properly service your clients once they are taken back to the fitting room or have a floating fitter if a client is taking up a significant amount of time with a fitter. read more

Wonderful selection for ALL sizes! The only place to get PROPERLY fit in my opinion. I love how I can walk in and walk out feeling like a new person with something as simple as a new bra. They aren't cheap but to me it's so worth it. Looking for a swimsuit. Just do it!! I've never felt good in a suit until getting fit and buying one from PF, even when it's wet I'm supported and the suits last. I shop here once a year but wish I could go more. Oh! I also brought a dress with me and wanted to find something where the bra straps would not show. Chelsea helped me and I found two different styles of everyday bras plus a strapless one for the dress. I've been here several times and have never had a bad experience. Each time I go I am in need of a bigger size since I am still growing in the chest area. Yes, I had to put my name on a list and wait but it was worth it (they have the good stuff and larger sizes in the back). Last time I went I was helped by Kaitlyn. She was so kind, honest and helped me find two bras that I liked. One of them I bought, the other had a defect on the lining of the bra. She pointed this out to me because I didn't even notice (I just thought it didn't fit me right and needed a bigger size).
