Terrible customer service and outrageous prices. I used to shop at the store on 6th Street and it was a great experience. When I went in most recently to the Westlake store, most of the staff was dismissive, It's one of those staff cultures that assumes that because you're wearing casual clothes you can't spend money. They were out of my size in a shirt so they ordered it from their San Antonio store. They called to let me know it was in, but when I went to the store, they couldn't find it after continuing to ask me a question after question. The girl that helped me was rude, so I just ended up leaving. read more

I recommended this store to my friend who is looking for a formal dress. We were looked up and down as if we were in Pretty Woman. My friend tried on a few dresses and the sales person never checked in. It was very strange to me as I thought this was a local shop who catered to central Austin women. The store has no organization and is like it's a warehouse sale. I will never go back. read more

Re: Bridal Their wedding gowns start at $3000 for a LianCarlo. Julian Gold is the only bridal salon who can expedite in four months! Judy is the best in her field, with decades of experience hailing from the now closed, St. Thomas. Because of her long - standing relationship with the vendor, she was able to expedite my $3950 Christos gown for free! She also gave me a free garter! My only wish is that, for a custom - made gown, they would have had a 2015 style, instead of the Spring 2011 I purchased. Excellent customer service compared to Melange and Serendipity. There is no comparison. Judy returned all of my phone calls and texts even on her day off and after work hours from her personal cell phone. I was the sole bride Judy attended to as she helped me get in and out of the dresses. The dressing room was spacious. No other brides were scheduled or permitted to peruse the bridal boutique during my private time. It wasn't a madhouse. Alterations cost $600 for three fittings, but Betty did a good job. The veil cost $210. Judy was conscientious in helping me stay within my budget of $5000 before tax. I was able to recoup $1432 by selling my veil and dress at Second Summer within five months after my wedding. Two and a half years later, Judy let me borrow a Spring 2016 Rivini gown, $7020, for a photo shoot in a salon portfolio. They also carry Reem Acra gowns starting at $5500 and Monique Lhuiller (non Bliss). read more

I have never been inside Julian Gold. I do work on the same street and love walking by the windows and reading about the sales and trunk shows. The reason I am raving about them is because they did me a huge favor. (See my Unbridaled review for the back story...) They offered to professionally press my wedding dress in one day for a small fee. How nice is that? They also offered to hold my dress until the wedding day so it wouldn't get wrinkled or attacked with the cat & dog hair that resides in our home. Helping me out in this bind has GREATLY increased my opinion of Julian Gold and I promise I will be back when they have their next sale. read more

Julian Gold was the first place that I went dress shopping. Judy was amazing, and handled my mom, her best friend, me and my future mother-in-law like a pro. No small feat...we are an intense group. This place is awful- limited assortment of merchandise and the worst customer experience in Austin I'm pretty sure. The guy at the shoe area is the absolute worst part of the store. He has the most condescending tone and attitude I've ever experienced. I practically had to beg him to let me try the shoes in my size. I liked three things I almost considered purchasing, but because of the horrible experience I decided not To. Save your time and energy and just go to by George down the street. read more

If I hadn't purchased a gorgeous Oscar de la Renta dress a I would give 1 star. The customer service was terrible to say the least. Once I actually said "I want it" about the dress the attitude of the sales agent adjusted 100%, I'm sure that my $3,000+ dress commission that she got would make someone think differently about the customer they initially shunned. I felt like Julia Roberts in pretty woman. Flat out rude if you ask me. read more

worst service ever. i took a bridesmaid dress there to get altered, which i purchased from the san antonio location. the SA store was wonderful. very helpful and patient, eager to assist and go the extra mile. the austin store could take some pointers from them. when i took my dress to be altered, everything seemed fine. i called ahead, made sure they had time for me that day, and i got in and out of the fitting without a hitch. they made me pay upfront, which seemed strange to me. they told me it would be ready in 2 weeks - oct. 15 to be exact. on october 19th i called to see if it was ready for pick-up - they said "yes, of course". i let them know i was going out of town for business, if they could please hold it for me...they said, "yes of course". i went to pick up the dress on nov. 2. a month after i had dropped it off. when i got there they *gasp* couldn't find it. they asked my name 4 times, asked if it could be under another name, they asked if it was just a "party" dress that i was wearing to the wedding, or if i it was a bridesmaid dress [as if that made it less of a screw-up]...and looked EVERYWHERE for about 15 mins. they finally found it. it hadn't been touched. all the pens were still in it, not a stitch had been sewn. no apologies, just, "oh, hmmm, when do you need it?" i told them i would be there on monday to pick it up, and would call to make sure they were working on it. when i went back a SECOND time that following monday [nov.9], i had the unfortunate timing of being the only other person in the store - besides the old rich guy flirting with the two salesgirls. after 7 mins of standing there, listening to their banter, i finally interrupted to say "i just need to pick up my dress". with an eye-roll one of the ladies went and got it from the back. horrible, horrible, terrible experience. thank god i took it in a month early. read more

Normally I shop at Nordstrom's using a personal stylist. My stylist left for other opportunities, so I tried Julia Gold. The good: their selection of labels is quite good, and includes designers whose clothes I favor; they're a stand-alone store, and one avoids the mall traffic. The bad: the service was terrible. Granted, I was there while a sale was going on, which wasn't relevant to me as I was looking for a gown to wear to a gala. One salesperson deigned to wave her hands over the crowded racks of clothes saying "Everything's 75% off today, and after today it's gone." Fine, but not a bit helpful, especially since not one person asked me what I was looking for. I wandered around and found the evening gowns (only the ones on sale....not what I was looking for), and found two to try on. Clutching them over my shoulder, I wandered on until I came upon of cluster of three people chatting and asked "Are there any sales people in the store?" Turns out two of the three were, so I interrupted their conversation. The dresses were awful, I was overwhelmed by wracks of unsorted clothes, so I started to walk out. Another salesperson who was previously seated reading a magazine walked through lingerie and emphasized that "Everything on the rack is less than $14.00, though I had no interest in lingerie. I escaped through the door at that point. The experience was most like one would find in a mediocre department store with no salespeople. I bought a Nicole Miller at Julian Gold several years ago and had a good experience (needed a different size, and the salesperson was able to have it transferred from the San Antonio store). Unfortunately, when I went in today to look for a mother-of-the-bride dress, I was not even greeted by a sales associate. I spotted just one other customer in the store while several sales people watched me spend a good five minutes looking at gowns. Really disappointing; I won't be back. read more

Despite the other reviews, I actually love the fact that the associates there do not hover over you! I think Julian Gold has the best selection of high end women's clothing in Austin - on par with Nordstrom and Neimans - but with the added benefit of being a locally owned business! I even took my two young girls with me to shop, because I was in a pinch and needed a dress for an event. Everyone was super friendly to them, offering them drinks and cookies! And DO NOT MISS their makeup counter! They carry Kevyn Aucoin and By Terry, two awesome lines that can be hard to find. Their makeup artist, Shawna, is in my opinion the most talented makeup artist in Austin!!! read more

She provided the best customer service that I have ever had. That store is fabulous ... from the sales people (Connie) to their beautiful clothes, jewelry and accessories, to the management. I didn't have a good experience here. The first time there, looking for a dress to wear as a guest to a wedding, sales folks walked around and past me, but didn't nod or ask if I needed help, for about 15 minutes. I finally got help, tried on several dresses and liked a David Meister dress. It was a couple sizes too big, but Wendy let me know that they could alter it down. The tailor pinned the dress and it looked pretty good. The problem was in the hem. The dress is designed to be worn with a hem just below the knees, and somewhat narrow at the hem. Being a short person, I requested it be hemmed just above the knees. Once tailored, it looked awful. Because I'm short, hemming it that short made the hemline wider, with too much fabric, and changed to look and style of the dress. I paid for the alterations and hoped that it would look better in my own mirror with my shoes and jewelry. It did not, it just didn't look right at all and I can not wear it. I of course couldn't return it, as it had been altered. So I had to shop for and purchase ANOTHER dress. When I called Wendy to let her know, she offered a "coupon" for the next time I need alterations. I won't need that, as I won't be back. They should have refunded my alteration fee. The dress looks awful. I realize I requested it be hemmed just above the knees, but I would expect that the tailor would let me know that it would change the look of the dress, and suggest I not do that, or find another dress. They advised a friend in this way, so not sure why they didn't advise me. read more
