I definitely recommend coming here for quality sushi and friendly and quick service. We got the Arctic roll, salmon avocado roll, spicy tuna roll, and salmon belly nigiri. When we finally asked when the food would come out, she said she didn't know. It seemed we were the first customers. After us, there was only one more group. She did not apologize. Got seated at 6:15. We ordered an appetizer, a sashimi platter, and 1 roll. It took over 90 minutes to receive all of our food. They had forgotten about our roll and almost didn't give it to us. We had the Indian roll, Atlantic roll, Salmon Teriyaki, Eel Cucumber roll and they made an extra creamy scallop handroll and threw that in for free (do yourself a favor and get this!). My new go to sushi spot. We went for lunch when they open at 12pm and loved it. Fresh food, and great service. Please give this place a try you will not regret it. Creamy scallop roll, eel and cucumber roll, and shrimp tempura roll are my go to. The salmon plate is also good. And while you are eating the music is everything. I was looking for a new sushi spot and found this place, Freudian the chef here handles making sushi with great care and ease, always sourcing the freshest fish keeping my mind at ease about any concerns of contamination. Great new and "softly opening" neighborhood spot. Cozy, warm interior with friendly and attentive service. The sushi was composed with interesting and curated ingredients and small unexpected touches with hospitality that make this a unique dining experience. Right next door to our favorite Thai Table on University, we felt super special to have this experience all to ourselves but Butterfish is under the same ownership as Thai Table so it won't be long before it has lines out the door also! Delicious little garnishes are often added to the sushi for optimal taste. The atmosphere has gentle music and has beautiful warm wood that envelops you. We highly recommend! We made a reservation and were in the process of being seated by the host when another employee sent us outside so that he could seat a party without a reservation instead. If there was Zero Stars I would do zero stars. I've been so excited for this place. I work around the corner and I was at a meeting and I drove all the way from El Cerrito to come here to eat. I walk in and there's a table right there for me to eat at. The waiter says are you okay eating at the bar they have extremely high seats with little foot rest I said no it's not good for my body I have really bad knees plantar fasciitis and an extremely messed up calf. So now I can't sit in Barstool chairs like that. She says there's no tables available for one right now. When there was a table right in front of me. I am very well known in the area and my parents are very well known and I am from berkeley. I'll be writing on Facebook and everywhere to please ban this place and not go. It's really sad I had three friends that came here and said it's so delicious. I will be going to other sushi spots and I will never return. They didn't come out the door after me when I said I'm sorry I think you just lost my business. They didn't seem to care that is just bad business.
