I found this place on Yelp when we were road-tripping from Newburgh, NY to Niagara Falls, Canada and am so happy we stopped! 6 of us ate there and all of us loved our food (that never happens! Haha). They have an artisan take on traditional brunch items. The biscuits and gravy were very good (I'm a southerner, and usually disappointed in northern attempts at this dish). The banana bread French toast was to die for, and you likely might if you're diabetic like me. My kid is a picky eater, and they fixed him scrambled eggs and biscuits, which he devoured. We received marginally bad service here, though, the food was redeemable in many ways, but not enough to overcome the surprisingly bitter attitude of the manager, who can't come to terms with small problems, as they were. Our meal took around ninety minutes, from the time we entered the cafe until we left. The place was barely half full, on a Sunday for brunch. We were the only table that sat down for over a half of an hour span. The food then took over an hour to arrive, and our order wasn't even complete, with our six year old daughter's French toast the held up item...and that took an extra ten minutes. You could tell what the buzz is about, the fare was fresh and rather nicely prepared. But the meal experience quickly became even more of a letdown. One unfortunate anecdote was our bagel with "blue" in it...a small patch of what looked suspiciously off, we sent it back, thinking there was mold. That's when the true colors, as it were, were revealed--- a manager came out, and needlessly, and forcefully at that, seemed to take this very personally. The gentleman came to our table and curtly informed us that the bakery which they get these bagels from also produces a RAINBOW bagel, and that's where the "blue" is from...no apology, or warmth and appreciation for our patronage, but we definitely received what felt like a stern lecture, and then the statement "so, are we done with this now, huh?" as an in-your-face coda to his grumpy swan song, and an even quicker, abrupt exit. Whoa...did that just happen like that? So, in the end, as three tables came in after us over that hour and change, it just seemed the place was overwhelmed...like you wonder what might happen if there WAS a true Sunday brunch rush. Sometimes, people have bad experiences at good restaurants, and that's what this seemed like. We have since been called THE WORST CUSTOMERS EVER when we posted a respectful, but negative review on Facebook, so it seems unfortunate and rather unprofessional that a restaurant actually blames its customers when they have a bad or negative experience, but we felt it proper to post about such, since that's a RED FLAG for dysfunctional treatment through the customer service, then the management's lacking response to genuine problems customers encountered. Eh, plenty seem to think this place can do no wrong, so even if it's just to prove how human they are, providing our experience and not attempting to belittle them for petty reasons will hopefully come in handy for some who understand how the real world works. They surely don't...but we truly hope everyone else can find a better experience for quality food in a good town...this place made us feel uncomfortable and bad about our (post-restaurant)experience read more

Don't go there even that the food is okay, it's very overpriced for the portions. $3 for a strip or two of bacon. The fruit was already spoiled and couldn't even it. A juice is $5. I ended up paying $65 for my three kids and I. They do not allow any animals inside, I asked if I could sit outside on the porch because I had my dog and he said he did not serve outside. So why does he have a cat running around inside the coffee shop? A very rude way to manage an establishment and I thought the tip was already included in the payment of the food. When I was already outside he came yelling at me asking for a tip, telling me "this is America" and I ended up giving $10 more, so altogether my three kids and I ended up paying $75 for just a breakfast! read more

Wow what a surprise this place turned out to be! We were en route to Syracuse and stopped off for lunch. The food was wonderful. The place doesn't look like much from the outside but is charming inside. I had the sportsmen's breakfast. A huge plate with sausage, biscuits and gravy, home fries, and the freshest eggs I have ever had. My husband had the brats which came with a huge green salad and an enormous portion of homemade macaroni salad. We regretted we didn't have room for the delicious looking baked goods. One star for being friendly. But the food was old and cold. Literally watched the "cook" take the food out of the fridge and reheat it. Then there was a cat that the (I'm assuming) owner let in from out side and jump all over the table step on my utensil and drink my disgusting tap water. It's a complete waste of money. Just stopped on the way to NYC. Great little spot for breakfast or lunch. Warm hospitality and good homemade food ... like having lunch at grandma's house. Had the chicken salad sandwich on freshly baked bread. Breakfast options - served all day- more plentiful than lunch. I wish I had ordered the pancakes ... served at the table next to me, at least 1/2 to 3/4" thick! Worth stopping again on the return trip. read more

Saw it had great reviews and looked like a quaint place, so we decided to stop. Because we were traveling with our dog and cat in the car and it's summer, we needed the orders to go. When we got there, we saw a small handwritten sign that said no orders to go. Figured we'd go to the counter to verify that. A very rude man first ignored us, said no takeout and turned away - didn't offer to even see if we wanted to be seated. We'd have been happy with a sandwich given to us on a napkin. As a relatively new addition to the quiet town of Deposit, George has outdone himself with this cozy and very country chic eatery. I went with the #1 favourite, biscuits-gravy-chicken sausage and an egg while my wife went with one of the day's specials, the zucchini omelet, both delicious! With fresh food and daily specials the menu is simple but flavourful. George also handles the cooking and Shirley provides warm and attentive service. My wife also raved about the egg salad sandwich she had eaten the day before when she discovered Butterfields. We will make this a regular stop when we are passing through Deposit and anyone driving I-86 (Hwy 17) should too. read more

What a little gem in the middle of nowhere. We were on our way to Seneca Lake and stopped in for lunch. The seating on the back porch was charming. The waiter was really nice and funny. I had the Roadhouse salad and my girlfriend had the chicken salad sandwich. The chicken tasted fresh(!) off the bone. Both were YUMMY! We also had fresh squeezed lemonade with fresh strawberries floating in the drinks. We liked it so much we decided to stop back on the way back down to Westchester. We had the opportunity to stop by Butterfields for two lunches in three days. Our choices were the Roadhouse salad, veggie omelet, fresh coffee, homemade bread and muffin,home fries, and eggs over and we were not disappointed. Food producing areas like NE Pennsylvania are ironically decent food deserts, so we were very excited to see everyone on Yelp raving about this great cafe just over the border in Deposit NY. As everyone says, the place is gorgeously small with a divine balcony out back, food was a godsend and owners very helpful. After the lunch of chicken meatloaf sandwiches, quiche, superb tomato soup, fluffy pancakes and killer apple pie, we'll be heading back for dinner tomorrow night. We stopped by around 1:30 pm on a weekend and the service we received was so unbelievably rude and simply mean. We nearly had menus thrown at us. When we asked a question, the sever rolled her eyes. It was obvious that were were not welcome and they didn't want to be bothered with us. We left shocked at the treatment we received. We didn't do anything to deserve that. On Saturday my uncle and I stopped in at Butterfield in deposit. We always stop in there for breakfast before we head up to Binghamton. When you walk in to the cafe, you are greeted by the owner George. Every time we go there to eat, the place is always clean. My uncle had an omelet with ham and Gouda, with rosemary home fries, and homemade white toast. I had there sportsman's breakfast. These comes with two eggs anyway you wanted, homemade sausage gravy and bisects, rosemary home fries, toast, bacon, and sausage. The sausage gravy is the best thing they offer for breakfast. Also they have really good coffee. They also make cappuccinos, lattes, ice coffee, and a lot of different hot teas to select from. If you want a great breakfast I highly recommend Butterfield for breakfast. read more

I should have known when reading the chalkboard upon entering that the list of things they do not do or allow leaves almost no room for a positive experience. I was made to feel that they were doing me a favor for allowing me to dine there as I asked a question about a dish. The owner/ manager went on the attack even though I was honoring his craft and the fact that it was his restaurant. He literally said that he's in the money making business when I asked for a substitution. Owner, George, is a sweetheart of a guy... sat and visited with us a few minutes and were soon feeling like old friends. The food was fresh and delicious, the coffee was just right. Stopped here for a bite to eat with my husband and mom. From first stepping inside I knew this was going to be good. Such a friendly relaxed atmosphere. This place saved my neck after I drove out of Binghamton without feeding my wife a proper lunch (I had eaten later than she and convinced her we'd find a quaint country diner on the way home). Though they weren't on the menu, they did have gluten free pancakes. Under a little real maple syrup and butter, they turned out to be some of the best I've had. We were looking for a place eat this morning. Since it was after Labor day it was tough finding a place. We were lucky to have remembered passing Butterfields the day before. This place is a little Gem that you have to try before it inevitably gets too crowded. All the food is made to order with fresh ingredients. We had eggs, home fries and bacon and eggs ,homefries and sausage. It was great tasting and just the right portion. The staff is very friendly and helpful.Unfortunately it was the end of our weekend and so we'll have to wait a few weeks before we get to try their lunch but, if it's anything like the breakfast I'm sure we'll be happy. read more
