Good coffee, good service, but stay away from the huevos rancheros. This place has no idea what they are.

We had a party of 10 and had breakfast, everyone's hash browns were burnt to a crisp and cold. Eggs were cold, but toast was cold no butter was very 3rd rate meal. read more

Always wanted to eat here...so my dad was gonna be in town for Christmas & he asked me to find a restaurant that will be open Christmas morning so we may meet up their & enjoy a nice breakfast. I chose Buttercup! Kudos for being open that day! They also had thee BEST Belgium Waffles I've ever had! My step mom made a comment about how tasteful the coffee was as well. I will surely be back again soon! read more

A household favorite! Our family of 5 visits the restaurant almost weekly. One of the few restaurants that you can have breakfast for dinner. There is something for everyone! The service is fantastic as they have a staff that is dedicated and long term. Yum... Just writing this review makes me crave their prime rib. Check them out! read more

My fiancee and I have been going here for quite awhile now and have never been disappointed with any of our meals. The staff is friendly and very attentive. The menu offers a nice variety and the food portions are huge. Service is fast.....unless you go on a Sunday morning when it gets pretty crowded. Than you may have a little longer wait to get your food. But it's worth the wait! read more

The food was ok a bit pricey. The shrimp was overdone, they really did not have a good kids menu, everything was huge and adult tasting. I also noticed we got looks from the customers like we should not be here, I did not know that color mattered anymore, so it must have been senior hour or something haha. Anyways will try this again and see what happens. read more

Buttercup is a good breakfast place. I go there frequently with my niece and grandniece and Pearl, our regular server, treats us like family. read more

Every time my family comes here, we are greeted with all the friendly faces! Kinda reminds me of "Cheers" but for a family restaurant. Never had a bad meal for breakfast lunch or dinner! This is our place to go for good meal that feels and tastes like it was made at home! Prices are also very good! read more

Visited a couple of times, a mixed bag. Soup of the day tends to be fairly random with oddly composed titles...hope you like surprises. Shrimp scampi was a little over-buttery though not bad. Liver was a definite winner, I would get that again. Service - kinda middlin'. Your basic comfort food restaurant. read more

Sat at the bar for dinner on a Monday. The service was really good without being obtrusive. Had a Cobb burger (turkey burger with blue cheese stuff and other salad fix in's on a decent bun with curly fries. The fries were just right and very hot. The burger was good.Next time I might ask for more blue cheese stuff on it. I would have preferred some more interesting beers on the menu, but they had Sierra Nevada P.A. So that was ok. The hard liquor price was quite reasonable. It was clean, although looking a little overdue for an update. I would definitely go there again if I am in the area. read more

Service is always great. The Daniel omelette is my favorite and can be shared since the portion is pretty big. I love their desserts bread pudding and the cheesecake and they're upside down apple pie. They're waitress and waiters are very friendly. for lunch I love the vegetarian sandwich with eggplant but you can also get it with a shitaki mushrooms. I absolutely love this place it's all about comfort food here.. read more

This my favorite Buttercup and it is right across from my dog grooming shop. All the servers and managers are nice and " goose " is a great cook!!!! read more

Eggnog French toast wow!!! If you have not tried yet so delicious I Believe it's only for the month of December. My family and myself went there over the weekend great food friendly staff read more

I eat here no less than once a week, usually for breakfast. They do breakfast right! I have tried most breakfast places in the Concord, P.Hill, Walnut Creek, Clayton, Martinez area over years and finally landed on Buttercup. I guess I would be considered a regular by now and see many other regulars as we all usually eat around the same time. Their pancakes and damn good, some of the best I've ever had. The country potatos are damn tasty too, I like 'em "crunchy". The best girls in the morning are Brittni and Nicole. Dinner time look for Crystal and Pearl. They also have locations in Oakland, Vallejo and Walnut Creek but I usually eat at Concord. read more

I've eaten here a few times and the food is ok. However, I want to write this review as a warning for people who use their credit/debit cards to pay for their check. I went in for lunch a few days ago and this morning I checked my bank balance on the computer. It was lower than expected. After reviewing the transactions I found that my lunch at the Buttercup had been overcharged by $11.00. Luckily, I still had my receipt. I printed a copy of my statement and went back to the restaurant. The manager happened to be there. When I explained the situation, he tried to tell me to wait until I got a statement in the mail because sometimes the bank doesn't post correctly. I told him I don't get statements by mail. He asked me to wait and he would check. He came back a short time later and said it was their mistake. They had posted $14.00 for the tip on my check. He said he could credit my account or give me cash. I told him cash would be ok. He then handed me a ten dollar bill. I told him I was overcharged $11.00. He then handed me another dollar and said are we ok now? He acted like I was being unreasonable. I can't believe he had an attitude when he had it in black and white in his hand. The printout he showed me clearly showed the tip listed as $14.00. That amount was more than my total check. Anyway, I want people to be aware of using their debit card or credit card here, because from the report he showed me, it was clear that someone entered $14.00 separately. My tip was $3.00 and that was almost a 30% tip on my lunch. How do you mistakenly enter $3.00 as $14.00?? Maybe this is not an accident, but because I happened to check my transactions, I found it. Buyer beware!!! read more

I dined here for Christmas dinner everyone was in festive mood in spite of crowd. No one cooks anymore. I had the 1/2 fried chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables also a nice salad with some bread. It was crispy and delicious. My Brother had a New York steak with baked potato and vegetables and salad with bread equally pleasing and cooked medium rare as requested a very good value. All the food was fresh and a piece of pecan pie to go was as well. read more

Disgusting place, they have major plumbing and cleanliness issues, it smells of sewage and air freshener when you walk in the door.

Pearl was the best waitress that I have ever had! And oh ya, the food was bomb! And I highly recommend the the "Ben's Bloody Mary"!!!!

I don't usually complain about service unless I feel I've REALLY been treated horribly. I've been eating at this establishment for a long time. The servers are 5 stars for sure as I've never had a bad experience with them. The OWNER however is a completely different story. On Jan 1st. I called to place a to go order. When I got home and started eating I found that my hash browns were so "hard" I couldn't eat them. They clearly had been sitting in the kitchen for a very long time. So I called back just to give them a "heads up" not to bitch and moan but make management aware. The person on the other end of the phone was SO rude. He told me "oh sorry what do you wanna do?" I said well can you take my name so when I come back I can have a credit? His response was "we don't do that" "If you want your money back or another order of hash browns you'll have to come down here right now". WOW...and that's when I asked him if he was management just to be sure who I was talking to. He replied "no I'm the owner" WOW. Never have I had an owner of an establishment Talk or treat me in this manner. I own a business as well and this guy, I don't know maybe he was having a bad day but his form was clearly BAD. This a family owned business...one of you needs to have a word with this man as he's not doing this buttercup justice. There are many bad reviews. Not good;( I'll be coming back because I do have good experiences with the servers and their service is always good But the owner?.....no thankyou...I would be very embarrassed... read more

Worst and slowest dining experience we've ever had and that's saying something since I'm very laid back. It was Monday evening so it wasn't busy but it felt as though no staff knew we were there or were assigned our table (4 adults, 2 children). It took forever. Also no children's menus were offered, not sure if they even had them. Waters sat empty, food took forever and then there was the bill issue. There were two items on our bill that we never ordered. It was a mess and service was very poor. We left a tip but really shouldn't have as it was not deserved. We won't be going back even if it is down the block from our place. I suggest they train their staff on being more attentive. However the one positive I will say is the Mac n cheese and lemonade were very good. read more

Me and my family's daily morning breakfast staple or for a nice lunch! We've been going here for years and each time has never failed us. Great food and exceptional customer service. The waitresses definitely work hard here and they have always been so great to us. Forgive me for forgetting a few names but Pearl and Brittany, you ladies are great! We look forward to coming here for breakfast and the waitresses always seem to remember what we want to order without us even having to say it lol. Very friendly and clean here as well! read more

I've been going to the Buttercup for a few years. Honestly, it's nothing spectacular. Just average diner food. Portions are above average. But then again, I'm not a big eater. They'll substitute most anything and I've even dashed in for a quick breakfast sandwich to go. Not even on the menu but customized to my liking. Waiter/waitress staff is always nice but if you get Pearl, you've got the best! Pearl is a hip, beautiful black woman who always remembers you and peppers her greetings with 'Princess', 'Handsome', 'Sweetheart' and other phrases of endearments. She listens and gets your order right. Great discounts for seniors, which explains the majority of older customers. Good daily specials on the board and they even have a bar so getting a mimosa with your breakfast is a breeze! Look in your discount mailers for coupons too. Overall, consistently good but basically average comfort food. read more

Ben is the top dog at the cup. Great food .Great service. They know you by name and they are always willing to please. Its nice to have a good place to eat. read more

I like their vegetarian eggs Benedict. I get it every time and the service is good. My only complaint is their utensils and dishes are never fully clean looking... Most of the time there will be dried food on my fork, I have to replace it. I think they need a better washing technique. It's a real turn off... read more

We came here with 2 dogs, they welcomed us and seated us in an outer section with a door open and a nice breeze. Everyone was UBER friendly, the food was DELICIOUS and our server was very attentive but not hovering, and kind of intuitive to what we needed, excellent service!!! We had salmon from the lite menu, a BLT and a pastrami sandwich, all were tasty, we also ordered grilled artichoke and the mayo was TO DIE FOR, SO GOOD!! read more

Because this place has an outdoor eating area, I went in and asked if they accepted dogs to be with thier owners while dining outdoors.....the man (older middle eastern man) handed me a menu and said yes: we gathered our Bichons and sat in the patio area .....the waitress came to take our order and questioned our dogs being there.....I told her that I had gone inside to ask and that the manager had said yes...she took our order and within 5 min the manager....the same one that had given me permission......came out and without a shred of apology or etiquette said (in a heavy accent you must leave...no animals allowed.......very rude!....I asked him then why did you say it was ok when I specifically.went in to ask you?!?!......he pointed to his ear and said he couldn't hear very well!!!!......needless to say I will never return to this place....because I don't believe in rewarding business owners that hire and retain individuals who display no social skills and continue thier third world treatment of customers.....aka soup Nazi! read more

This has always been a good place for breakfast food, not fancy, but "homey" and satisfying. However, last Tuesday I ordered a scrambled egg dish and asked that the Jalapeno peppers be left out. The waitress said it was not a problem, but forgot to convey the information to the cook. She apologized, said it was her fault, and took it back. Not a problem so far. I ate half and took the other half home for later. When i ate it, I got a nasty surprise in the form of a tiny piece of the hottest pepper that has ever found its way into my mouth. NOT FUNNY! read more

Nice family restaurant with good service and nice variety on the menu. Love that my daughter can get breakfast and I can have nice dinner at the same time. A tradition for us to come here for a late dinner after events down the street at my daughters school. This is clearly a neighborhood place don't expect fancy and you won't be disappointed. read more

The food is always on point. Good coffee.. Service is great, especially waitress Nichole. This is my favorite breakfast spot.

Excellent food. Large and varied menu. Breakfast available all day. Reasonable prices. Outstanding staff, very friendly and flexible. Most have been there long term. I must say that the Buttercup grill and Bar is a really good place to eat! The server there are very hard workers especially Ruth! I've noticed that no matter how much work needs to be done Ruth is right on it! read more

The food is OK. The servers awful. Our server was named Crystal. We think she was drunk. Smelled of alcohol and got all orders wrong. Don't go there. So disappointed. read more

We asked them at the last minute for enough space to have a surprise baby revealing dinner and they accommodated us immediately. Our waitress was very nice and kept all of our waters and sodas full. The food was delicious and the place was very clean. I recommend this restaurant for its great food, and customer service. read more

Had a wonderful dinner with a wonderful lady the other night at the butter cup and as always the service was excellent and the food was exceptional though I would've been a little happier with the larger portion of the linguini. But I will repeat my criticism of the ownership as I don't think they treat their staff well at all and they're lucky to have them as I have seen The owner chastise some of the employees right in front of the customers which is embarrassing and he's very demanding I know this because I usually go there during the day and sometimes Sunday mornings but in spite of that I will continue to go there it is a great restaurant. read more

Great service, food was even better. Lemon meringe pie was to die for. Would be returning soon.

Food is always delicious. Big portion size. This was the fist time I went and I had horrible service though :( waitress made us feel unwelcome. This is why I have to give 4 stars instead of 5. read more

I went there for 4th of July lunch. As soon as you get in a display of pies will be on your left side and I admit that after seeing it I was not so interested in eating lunch anymore. All I wanted was to taste every singe slice of those pies! They looked amazing! After my husband pushed me away of my pie dream we were seated and ordered our food. I got the chicken Marsala and he got ribs. Plate was huge! A lot of food. My chicken tasted OK... nothing special really. They put a lot of garlic and mashed potatoes were tasteless. My husbands ribs were loaded with BBQ sauce and served with beans (that tasted so bad). After our disappointing lunch we got a slice of walnut apple pie. It is a award winning pie. Boy, it was good! So delicious! We also took a slice of key lime pie home and it was just yummy! Our waitress was great! We had the called Southern hospitality! She was caring and took such a good care of us! I didn't give more stars because food wasn't that good for me (they could give less with more quality and freshness). Pie and service were 5 stars for sure! Next time I will listen to my inner voice saying "skip that damn food and eat pies". Maybe they are better for breakfast. read more

Buttercup is one of my favorite places to have breakfast or lunch. I have been frequenting this place lately. Its well maintained and clean, the service is always good and friendly. I usually get the avocado melt with spinach salad as a side (instead of fries). This place sends out a a lot of really good coupons in the mail and the prices are great to begin with. read more

Went with mom and my godfather and who said it was good. We started with the potato skins which were delicious! Nice and crispy and enough for the three of us. I ordered the chinese chicken salad, and it was tasty. Nothing mindblowing, but it definitely filled me up.
