Thursday Night Vibes at Buteco Cafe Thursday night at Buteco Cafe was a total vibe! From the food and coffee to the incredible live music, this turned into one of those evenings where you're glad you came early and stayed late. First, a few things to know about the location. There is a FREE parking lot, which is always a plus. There are also several other businesses across from Buteco. The inside space isn't huge, but it absolutely served its purpose for the evening. There's also an outdoor patio area if you want to enjoy some fresh air. Now, the kitchen setup is pretty cool. The kitchen is actually a parked food truck! You place your order inside, and they send you a text when your food is ready. I ordered the Grilled Cod Fish Taco with Yucca Fries, and everything tasted amazing. The garlic cilantro sauce that came with the fries was SO good that I ended up putting some on my taco too. The bar offers both coffee and crafted cocktails, but I decided to go with a recommendation: an Iced Vietnamese Coffee with caramel flavor. Vietnamese coffee is made with condensed milk, so it had this delicious creamy sweetness. I really enjoyed it and would definitely order it again. But now let's talk about what really brought me to Buteco... THE MUSIC! Jazz singer Julie Dexter was performing with her son, whom she fondly calls "SunSon," on keyboard, along with Josh on drums, plus special guests Thiegan and Jordan on bass guitar. We actually arrived early enough to catch sound check, and it felt like getting a little show before the show! The talent in that room was AMAZING. There were special duets, musicians switching things up, and at one point Josh moved over to the keyboard while his dad got on the drums. It made the evening feel spontaneous and intimate, like we were getting to witness musicians simply enjoying their craft and feeding off one another's energy. By showtime, every seat was filled, and the back of the room was packed with standing guests enjoying the music and vibing right along. The energy was wonderful. Between the live music, tasty food, Vietnamese coffee, outdoor patio and relaxed atmosphere, Buteco Cafe gave me plenty of reasons to return. Had shrimp quesadilla for lunch. The 4 pieces of quesadilla were very oily, like were deep fried. Shrimps? Maye 4 little shrimps-meaning almost no protein. Cheese-a lot. Good place for light bites, crafted, cocktails, Brazilian beverages and music. The set up is a bit unique, and appears to be a growing structure. Boteco is one of the first places I recall that have a food truck set up to prepare meals. You order at the bar and then an attendant brings the food to you either inside in the many booths available for dining or outside dining options, near the food truck as well as the rear of the building. Menu offerings included tacos, sandwiches, quesadillas, and several sides, including rice, beans, yucca, fries, and garlic lime rice to name a few. I chose a fish taco, a shrimp, taco and garlic lime rice for my evening meal. Everything was good overall; the rice not so much. It lacked flavor. It did not have the seasoning expected by its appearance. The addition of salsa, which were an additional fee, helped. The tacos were good and served on either option of flour or corn soft shells. I chose flour. The ala carte meal was filling without feeling stuffed and paired well with Pisco based alcoholic beverage. I frequent Buteco primarily for the music, which usually consists of DJs in the covered area behind the main bar. Line up changes and usually posted as signage indicates. Stopped by here on a Wednesday night with friends. We came early so we found seats, however, seating was scarce so I reccomend bringing a foldable chair or being prepared to stand. The weather was cooler but there were plenty of heaters outside and it was warm indoors. They have a menu with Mexican food so its a good spot for a late night bite. Stopped by for dinner on a Tuesday evening with one of my friends and Buteco was wonderful! Interestingly, the kitchen is actually located on the truck outside while the inside is a cafe, bar, and dining area with some additional seating outdoors. I ordered the crunchy turkey tacos (came with two tacos) and a chicken taco along with some yuca fries to share. We received a text when our food was ready and decided to dine outside. The food was extremely fresh and delicious. While we were seated outside, they set up a fire pit and there seemed to be live music getting set up too. We ordered the small bite platter that includes chicken croquettes, yucca fries (my personal fave), Brazilian bread and fried plantains, fried fish taco, grilled shrimp taco, al pastor taco, carne asada taco, and churros. I ordered from the bar and took it to go. It took around 20 mins for the order to be ready for pick up at the food truck. Flavorwise, everything was wonderful. The menu offers appetizers, like yuca fries, and also other things like tacos, taco bowls, and quesadillas. I ordered a shrimp quesadilla ($8). It was delicious, but small. You have the option of getting it with grilled or fried shrimp. I opted for grilled shrimp. The food and vibes are amazing, but food items like tacos are overpriced in my opinion. Loved my experience. I was a little weary of the menu but just go for it! It's all good! The bartender is so sweet, friendly, knowledgeable, and beautiful inside and out. She genuinely loves the history of drinks, bartending, food! She's so smart it's crazy. I highly recommend you grab their Thyme drink while it's still in season. Best and most creative drink I've had in a while. The chef came in. She checked on my husband and I as she passed through. She made us feel so special. She has a really huge love for food comparable to that of the lovely bartender. And boy can she cook. Everything was seasoned to perfection and cooked perfectly. That girl can COOK! Wednesday nights are my favorite night to come to bunco because they always have great DJs and music, the drinks are pretty affordable and the food truck outside is always tasty. The crowd is pretty chill, sometimes 40 and older but they are not afraid to have a good time and dance like nobody's watching. This is one of few favorite taco spots in our lovely city. Note: only this Buteco serves food, not Glenwood. The street tacos are consistently juicy and flavorful. Typical decorations are festive. Always seems like a celebration is going on at Buteco. Live music is frequent. Outside seating is abundant and the inside seating provides a nice social scene. The ambiance is always amazing. Great intimate venue with incredible vibes. Nothing pretentious, just great music and organic energy. I went to check out the Jam Session Thursday and loved it. The food was ok. I ordered the fried cod but got grilled so a slight oversight. It was alright but fried was better from what I saw someone else eating. I feel like it's a underrated gem but with how many shows they throw...y'all gotta know about this place. my partner and I frequent buteco as it's a nice walk from our home. the staff is attentive, friendly and you can tell they care about making a good drink (alcoholic and non) there's always plenty of seating when we go (I think we usually go before any shows/events start) but even when it's a lil packed there's always a place to sit. they have a projector and will sometimes play movies that really set the vibe. we usually sit at the bar and my ONE! gripe is no purse hooks but I manage just fine. our favorite thing to order is their signature thyme is memory and the seasonal cachaca (with tequila, personally) in the visits when we do get food, we never have any complaints! Place had constant traffic on a Wednesday. I ordered a Rio veggie dog with red and green peppers, mashed potatoes, carrots, and shoestring potatoes $13. The food and service at Buteco was great. Our group of four enjoyed our experience here. I recommend this place, especially for its delicious Brazilian street food and hip patio with live music and fun ambiance. The setup here is interesting. At least during our visit, it was. Inside the brick-and-mortar storefront is the cafe, bar, and dining room. However, the kitchen is actually located *outside* in the food truck. We ate inside so our food orders actually came in from the outside, through the front door. The dining room is snug. There's seating for about 30 inside. This isn't a proper restaurant. It's more of a small bar and cafe with a food truck. The patio is nice. The tables are partially-covered so you get shade, but not full protection from the rain. The hidden employee stairway in the back is really beautiful because of the colorful tilework. Buteco regularly has live music. During our Sunday afternoon visit, they had a DJ stationed outside under a canopy. We tried a good sampling of the food menu. Here's what we got: Food: * Pao de Queijo Waffles served with a side of guava jelly: ' Plain ($8.00) - classic version of Buteco's cheese bread waffle made with tapioca flower and Parmesan cheese ' Bacon, Egg, & Cheddar ($9.00) - stuffed with crispy bacon and cheddar cheese and topped with a soft-boiled egg * Chicken Milanesa Sandwich ($8.00) - panko-fried chicken topped with a mild cream corn sauce and green onions, served on a fresh-baked Brazilian sandwich roll * Feijoada Tradicional ($13.00) - the national dish of Brazil - black bean and pork stew served with basmati rice, sauteed collard greens, farofa (toasted cassava flour), pepper and onion vinaigrette, and sliced orange * Savory Sampler ($16.00) - three bites of your choice. There was nothing average nor disappointing. I highly recommend the Pao de Queijo Waffles and the Churros. They were outstanding and among the best waffles and churros I've had anywhere. Imagine the flavor and texture of Brazilian cheese bread in waffle form and that's exactly what Buteco's Pao de Queijo Waffles are. They're wonderfully flavorful with a crispy, light, and delectably spongy and chewy texture. I suggest getting the Bacon, Egg, & Cheddar version for even more flavor and texture. Our egg was cooked well. The bacon inside the waffle was chopped into very fine bits. The guava jelly was sweet. Since cheese bread is inherently savory, the jelly made these waffles both sweet and savory. What makes Buteco's Churros special is each churro is filled with cream. I've had a lot of churros over my lifetime, but this was the first time I've had cream-filled churros. They were magnificent. Crisp and delightfully sugary on the outside. Warm, subtly sweet, rich, and creamy on the inside. Dipping these churros in the dulce de leche sauce on the side only made them that much more incredible. My wife could tell the dulce de leche was actually made from goat's milk which meant it was technically cajeta. You won't be disappointed if you order these. The Feijoada Tradicional was terrific. It tasted as good as it looked. It was fresh and colorful, containing a nice and interesting balance of carbs, protein, veggies, and fruit. I found the dish to be quite filling and satisfying. At the same time, it wasn't too heavy. There was a piece of pork sausage in the black beans that was smoky and delectable. The greens were cut thin/shredded and seasoned well. The Savory Sampler is the way to go if you want to try a variety of Brazilian bites or snacks. Between the Fried Pao de Queijo, Coxinha, and Risole de Carne, my favorite was the Risole de Carne. The Risole de Carne was like a fried dumpling or an empanada, except the outer shell/crust was much softer and I think corn-based. The ground beef was spiced and flavored well. The Fried Pao de Queijo were served in small pieces, not in rolls or buns like you often see at Brazilian restaurants and steakhouses. The Coxinha were good. They were like fritters or doughnuts made out of cornmeal, like a stuffed hush puppy almost, but more tender. My wife had the Caipirinha Tradicional cocktail. Buteco makes this cocktail in four different flavors. My wife loved it. She said it was simple, refreshing, and balanced. Cachaca is Brazilian alcohol made from sugarcane juice. We ordered the savory sampler and the plain waffle and the portion was plenty for splitting (as long as you're not too hungry). Tried this spot for the first time today and omg it was a delightful surprise! The bar itself was super clean, like spotless, when we walked in. The baristas were very sweet and accommodating, and the drink menus had really cool cocktail and coffee options. Lots of people were in and out, and the staff seemed very familiar with them - it was very much like that cool neighborhood chill spot that you see on TV. However, the star of the show was the F O O D!!!! Just wow!!! We ordered the bowl with grilled shrimp, chicken quesadillas, the fries, and churros. The ingredients were clearly fresh and chef Camia was superb! Everything was delicious but my gosh that bowl!! Camia even graciously explained how she prepared the food and offered suggestions specific to our dietary constraints. She quickly cooked and presented the flavorful fare, and tbh I literally can't wait to go back. I usually don't even like cilantro but I swear Camia used it in the most becoming way. I really like Buteco. I visited a few times pre-covid but didn't want to tell anyone about the great date and drink spot that had opened near me. (Sorry, but too many people spoils a great spot!) Anyhew... since covid knocked the fun out of my life, I don't get out as much but because Buteco is so close by, it's become one of my favorite to-go spots. (I ate on the patio a couple of times during the summer. It is set up for social distancing.) I've eaten several of the menu items, and if I had to pick a favorite it would be the corn and cheese risoles; they are tasty little bites! Recently Buteco added sandwiches to their menu, and I had the chicken yesterday; it was pretty terrific - great bread and just enough of the aioli sauce. I also had their potato wedges which were seasoned well and perfectly crunchy-potato-puffy. Those wedges are a winner. If you're a drinker, have a caipirinha.( It's a summer drink, but this is 2020 and a lot of society's "rules" are not in effect.) The classic caipirinha is delicious, but Buteco offers a few extra fruity versions. I make caipirinhas at home often, and Buteco gets them right. A lot has changed this year, and Buteco is one of the restaurants that's handled the covid situation well. Kudos to them, and I'm glad to support. read more

For clarity, I am giving this restaurant 1 star for service and food. The service was terrible. The bartender took my order, payment, and then walked to another customer without making my drink. I ordered food which is connected to a food truck outside. I waited for an hour and never was told that my food was ready. When I walked outside to check on my food for a second time after waiting for an hour I was told that, "your food has been sitting here." The tacos were sub par for the cost. The fried shrimp and steak were salty. After charging me $6 for shrimp tacos, they tried to charge me for hot sauce. No thanks. I will eat this taco dry. I will not be going back. Came here for breakfast and a caffeine coffee fix on a Sunday morning, farmers market day. I ordered a Oat-milk Late and a Shakshuka breakfast sandwich which is two eggs with a tomato sauce on a French roll. We sat down out doors enjoying the sun. Early morning is the best time to come here as it gets rather busy mid morning, especially with Sundays Farmers market. I believe the owners are Nicaraguan. I saw they carried some local beer from there which I need to come back and try. They pump some tunes as the day wears on which draws quite the crowd, but also makes it difficult get in. Buteco is a cute little cafe, with authentic tapas. Good food and drinks, very good lattes and cappuccinos. These good aspects of my experiences have been offset by being overcharged, and a fee for comedy/live music that we did not partake in(on separate occasions). When we asked about the upcharge (that we were not informed about beforehand) the bartender explained that because they were having a performance there, there was an "entertainment upcharge". We were just going to eat, drink and leave with no intention of joining the audience. We asked if we still had to pay for the upcharge, to which the answer was yes. On another occasion, we ordered a mocktail and a beer. The mocktail on the receipt was $13, which was the same price as an alcoholic cocktail. We inquired about the charge, and a different bartender correctly handled the charge. So even though the food and drinks are a good draw, to me it's not worth having to make sure I'm not consistently overcharged and receiving up-charges with no forewarning. It gets very very noisy in here and the tables are on top of each other. The space where the live music and comedy are held is beautiful and quaint. The comedy is very amateur though, and the music was not what we expected. It wasn't worth staying for. Please ask for a receipt when you come here. read more

It's tiny but with the high ceilings, it didn't feel cramped. Fun, lively and funky vibe. For warmer days, they have a decent size patio. ++. Food is updated Brazilian street food, coffees, beers and cocktails. I tried their waffle Pao de Queijo (ham, cheese and oregano waffle) and corn and cheese rissoles. I've been super excited to try Buteco and I loved that we got the chance to try after a Yelp event across the street. Parking isn't really a problem with the shared private lot. The restaurant was pretty small inside but I believe there's a vast outdoor (covered) seating area out back. I don't have the most exposure to Brazilian food, so this was my first time trying coxinha! And what a treat! They were small and cute and fried to a crispy perfection. The filling was savory and tasty. We were advised to order the Pao de queijo, which was a chewy cheesy waffle. I LOVED it, although I found the waffle with pesto to be a bit soggy. We also ordered the Pao de queijo with ham and cheese, which I liked a lot better. It wasn't soggy or too heavy and I feel like I could have eaten that all day. The corn and cheese risole were just ok, nothing mind blowing. All that fried food got a little heavy. I may need to stick to just the coxinha or the cheesy waffles next time. The owner was there and he was so nice and sweet. He was helping bring out food and drinks and I love when the owner can get down into the busyness of service. This is my new little spot , Tacos & Burria kitchen "Or Should I Say Truck " I went over here because I was in the house and wanted a little night life not to far from the crib and free parking as well . So I went to this spot after trying another spot near that was closed unfortunately so I said let me walk in here . Ironically it was a great decision , The food was amazing and the ambience too . They had a live band killing and I said I have to try the food and boy was I smart for that . I got the carne asada , Chicken and the dirty rice and I must say it was busting I dare you to try this spot with all the flavors and authenticity in this place and it's not far from the crib , I'm spinning the block for these . I ordered the Savory Sampler and the Basil, Pesto waffle. Coxinha- too much breading and no flavor. Corn and cheese risole- was just ok. Tapioca tots- 0 taste. Both dipping sauces were tasty. I feel like I wasted $30 and would not order either again. The service was just ok. When I showed up to pick up my order it was not ready. I was told that "just because it says ready through the app does not mean it's ready" by the bartender. She said its just a timer and asked that I sit outside and she will bring my food out. She was just matter of fact about it. After 10 minutes my food popped up at the food truck window and was hand delivered to me with an apology on the lag. The first time I went (2019), I sat outside and enjoyed some live music and cocktails. I will return for the drinks and entertainment since it's so close to home.
