11/22/2017 Those Groupon discounts keep bringing us back, but it's almost not worth it. I had the colossal burger again... which was good, but no longer in my top 5, especially since I had to ask to dress it. I love steak. Ordering steak from a seafood restaurant is risky, but when it is part of the Saturday night special I figured I was safe. The oysters are always cold, always salty, and taste very fresh. I recommend a half dozen to start your meal. Saturday night is $12 grilled fish OR steak night. I've tried the fish, and it was decent. Sometimes it is a little dry, other times it is a little bland. Nothing amazing, not great, but good. When I said I love steak, I mean filet. I don't want to debate marbling or ribeye vs NY strip vs filet. I know what I like-- no fat and cooked medium rare. Depending on the cook, it will be delivered either lightly seared (extra rare) or burned beyond recognition (well done). No happy medium here. "How would you like your steak?" Just say, "surprise me!" That way, you won't be irritated when they cook it wrong. The jambalaya is usually overcooked, which leads to mushy rice. It was ok, but not great. The sausage link that they serve with the jambalaya is the best that I have ever tasted. So good, in fact, I asked the manager for the name brand. It is DOUBLE D BRAND. Seriously, it is amazing! I saved you the trouble, buy it in the grocery and make your own non-mushy jambalaya. The wait staff is much like the grill cook's philosophy on steak... no happy medium, either super friendly OR angry old lady. Never downright rude, but you can tell that she would rather not sling steak or fish today. Maybe the sausage would put a smile on her face. ;) It is delicious. High prices, low quality food, smelly restaurant. I ordered a shrimp po-boy with extra mayo, tomato and lettuce only. The waitress repeated my order 3 times and I confirmed it 3 times over the phone. For the record, I have never gotten a po-boy that I can wrap my entire and around and paid over$10 for! I noticed the smell of the smell of the restaurant when I picked up my order, which was a red flag, but I'd ordered to go. It smelled like a bathroom. that's as polite as I will put it. Upon returning to my office, I found that there was NO mayo on my cold sandwich that I ordered 10 mins before I picked it up, the shrimp were FLAVORLESS, greasy, not deveined, from the texture, dirty/gritty, and it left a FUNNY AFTER-TASTE! The WORST service, the Worst food, and a manager who could not have cared any less. I never received my salad or my water, my "steamed" vegetables were not seasoned and not cooked. My friend never received any food at all. We were not offered any apologies, only excuses. As we walked out, the couple behind us had similar complaints about cold food and poor service. The ambiance is cool for a fried food and beer location. They make some attempt at class but how upscale can you be with plastic beer signs screwed to the wall? Sports rule here and they have decent, not great, TV viewing. The food is typical Southern fried food. They have a good selection of bottled beer but where are the 10 different local draft beers that many of us have come to expect? The service varies. The last time we were there we had great service. Tonight the waitress was far more interested in talking to her co-worker while eating her own dinner than waiting on us. Great place for oysters. Some of the best in Covington and very well priced. However, I watched the kitchen pull food from the freezer, place it on a tray, and then microwave and serve (Steamed Veggies). Additionally I watched them heat pasta and other entrees in the same manner. This place only gets 1 star because the service was good. Other than that this place was horrible. When I first walked in were greeted immediately and was told to sit where ever we liked. We picked a table next to the window. The window sill was dirty and gross. The flat screen tv was located right above the seat my husband sat at and the plug cord was covered with dust. It was kind of scary to think that one hard blow from the a/c could drop the dust right onto our table/food. The chairs at the table were disgusting. The fabric was stained and dirty. I didn't even want to sit down. The table was also sticky but we weren't sure if it was just humidity or just plain dirty. My husband ordered the chargrilled oysters and almost all of them had shell pieces throughout them. Very disappointing. Then he got the crab stuffed jalapenos that was more filling then anything. You couldn't even see a piece of crab. I ordered the grilled mahi mahi sandwich. The bread/bun was really soft and good. The sandwich itself was okay. Nothing spectacular. This is my favorite restaurant in the whole Covington area! I LOVE the atmosphere here. They are almost always packed for dinner especially on one of their speciality nights, every Thursday night they have half priced oysters which of course is my favorite thing here to eat. I love the chargrilled oysters wow they are amazing!!!! And Saturday nights they have a special for $12 steak meal or fried fish. The steak meal is pretty darn good! But most stuff here is! If you like hamburgers you should try the Colossal Burger, it is a massive burger topped with cheese and bacon on a fresh homemade bun. I vote best burger on the Northshore! Yes! It's really that good! If you haven't tried it you should. Everything here I have had has been mouth watering delicious. Have yet to be disappointed. The owner is almost there. It is family ran. Nice people. If you haven't been and want to go when it's less crowded try lunch time they will still be busy but it's less crowded than dinner time. I was surprised with a date night here over the weekend, and I enjoyed my dinner immensely. I tried the jalapeno appetizer; jalapeno poppers with a Southern twist. My steak was cooked to order and a reasonable price. The salad was good, and the potato that came with my meal was huge and covered most of the plate after I unwrapped it from its tinfoil. The beer selection was good, and the server was attentive. It's in a good location in Old Covington, and we sat by the window and people watched. Even though it was a Friday night, we were seated quickly and had a good experience. The worst part of the dinner, and maybe the funniest, was that the women's restroom was taken up by a mother with at least one screaming child. I'm not sure if the child was trying to open the door or if the mother was trying to leave and kept getting pulled back with more and more of her child(ren)'s mishaps, but for a good ten minutes I watched the door being opened again and again and her voice trying to reason with the spawn until I finally gave up and used the men's room. The sink in there was gross, but due to my inexperience in using men's restrooms, that could be par for the course. So yeah, if you're looking for child-free fine dining, this isn't your place, but I had a good steak and a good hard cider and ate half my weight in potato for around 25 of my date's hard-earned dollars. read more

My family and I used to eat here on Fridays the food used to be good and the service great. Went today for mother's day. Service was very lacking. Seafood was bland. Aunt got chicken salad and the chicken was over cooked. Father-in-law got softshell crabs and a baked potato, the baked potato was undercooked. It wasn't busy either there were 5 tables total, we got there when it first opened and didn't leave to close to one. They now factor tip into the check for 2 meals. They split the bill wrong. The waitress wasn't very attentive and had to be flagged back down the finish ordering appetizers. I see why it was mostly empty now when Buster's was typically packed on a weekend. read more

My husband went on a busy Thursday night when raw oysters are half off i think. We had to wait but once sat the food and service was excellent. I will say the owner was seating and greeting people himself and I wish some of the patrons would have been more respectful towards him. He was truly a gem and busting his tail! After a few years I've decided to try them again for their steak night on Saturday. I definitely would recommend this place now. The ribeye and filet and blackened redfish was very delicious. My family said the same thing. My only problem was the redfish had a bone in it But that can happen from time to time. I will be back again for filet night. She was a terrible waitress had a terrible attitude but not only did she not take care of us, bring our food, bring condiments( requested Twice), and added things to my check I had to have taken off but she also kept the coins from the checks. For this reason I did not leave a tip at all. The cooks do a very good job. But this server needs some training very badly. She did an awful job 0/10. Will never go back even for free food.
