I want to say right off the bat that I want to give this place a 3.5 star rating but YELP WONT LET ME! Having said that I found this place to be a nice local hangout spot that provides solid food in an appealing environment with wait staff that are friendly and helpful, even if they were a little understaffed. Sitting with a few friends we had a couple drinks from a bar that had all the usual suspects and, while a little under stocked, covered all the main bases. To that we added some Charbroiled Oysters that were good as an appetizer and then I had the Crawfish Tail Fettuccine that was solidly good, seasoned well and sauces without being drowned as is sometimes the case. All up - I found myself wanting a little bit more from what we tried, just that little bit of something that would have taken the drink, the oysters and the fettuccine up just a notch higher. Disappointed in recent changes. I used to love their catfish, we would drive 20 minutes to get out here and have it, but they changed their recipe recently. It used to be more airy and light, but they've changed it into a hard and crisp shell with a lot of seasoning. I wouldn't mind if they made that an alternative option, but they've replaced what got me coming to them in the first place. Still a good deal on oysters though. read more

I've been to busters before because $10 dozen oysters Thursday! Those are always delicious raw or char grilled. Today was the same for the oysters, but when it came to the yellowfin tuna, there was a problem. Ordered medium rare and it was over cooked, so I sent it back. Waitress tried to defend it, but living with a chef you learn a few things here and there. New one came out and it was still cold in the middle. Had to send that one back too. Management took the tuna off my bill but found it appropriate to charge me for the salad that comes with. The fried oysters on the seafood platter were slimy as well. The whole experience was frustrating. So if you want good raw or char grilled oysters this is the place. Anything else? Not so much. read more

Appetizers and gumbo were good. Filet special, well let's say it was maybe a sirloin tasted like a shoe. My dad and I both couldn't eat it. The fish on my sister and husband dishes were good veggies cold. Maybe stick to the fried food here. read more

Update: Back in town, so we went back again. Not sure why this place doesn't have a better average review. We love it. Today we got the Gumbo (good, but possibly a bit TOO smoky, if that's a thing), Corn Fritters, cuz duh...., Etoufee (wonderful again), and finally we got the Crab Cakes for the first time. Just left here a few minutes ago and had to leave a review to compliment our dinner . I got the petite filet and it was cooked perfectly and very flavorful . My wife got the crawfish fettuccine and she said it was the best she ever had !!! No jar Alfredo sauce and definitely was not frozen crawfish! The seafood gumbo at Buster's is really worth the drive alone. It's perfectly seasoned and slam packed with seafood. Slam packed, I tell you. I get so upset when I order a cup of gumbo in a restaurant and there are like 2 tiny shrimp in there. Come on, people! This is Louisiana...seafood capital of the world. If I wanted to eat roux with rice I could made that crap at home. I like the ambiance in here a lot too. It's dimly lit and although sort of divey it's still romantic. I had, in addition to the gumbo, a shrimp poboy that was really good and of course, a Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary could have been better and could have had more veggies in it (there was one spicy green bean, two olives and a lemon) but it was good enough. After trying to get her attention for drink refills and rounds for 10 minutes, I had to go find and ask her. She nearly busted the Styrofoam cup of root beer she slammed in front of our 7-year-old. We had planned to order dessert, but gave up after 15 more minutes of no service. When she finally came by, we asked for the check. 15 minutes later, I had to find another waitress to get our check. My daughter had the jambalaya and that was ok. Everything came out just a little warm and tasted mediocre. Our waitress was great and attentive. Beware of this place, we went for my mom's birthday, service was sub par for an empty restaurant, we ordered grilled oysters and they tasted old, rubbery, and left a film in my mouth. for my entree I chose etouffee.. can't go wrong with that, right? I was wrong, it was all wrong. It came out lukewarm and tasted like old crawfish and soap. The crab cakes tasted and smelled very fishy and the waitress seemed like she was ready to leave. Low-priced, good food in this old-style bar and grill. Nothing in the way of frills, but the offerings are plentiful and the service is very attentive. I was by myself, so I didn't try a lot, but the seafood gumbo was excellent, with a dark, rich flavor. There was chopped shrimp in there - I usually prefer whole, but it had a nice texture. The chef added it at the right time, unlike a lot of places in south Louisiana, where it sits and cooks in the broth until it gets mushy. Gumbo gets 4 stars! Next was a crawfish po'boy, fried right with just the right amount of mayo. Like the best seafood po'boys,it was over-stuffed, too much seafood to fit in the bread, so the golden crawfish tails left on the plate were like a welcome lagniappe. The breading was crisp and did not overwhelm the flavor. Crawfish po'boy gets 4 stars I like Busters. It feels homey and relaxed. I'll come back next time I'm in Covington. read more

Busters is located just a few doors down from another place that boasts a similar menu. Both are good New Orleans style neighborhood restaurants. Busters though is the little more upscale option that offers a bar, raw and charbroiled oysters, as well as table service. The place is comfortable and quiet, service is generally good. Two of my favorites are the hot sausage poboy which is probably the most hearty version you'll find in Covington and the fried crawfish tail poboy which is also very good. read more

The absolute worst oysters I have ever had!!! And I'm talking about the raw as well as char broiled!!! First the raw... I pray to God that I don't get some kind of liver disease that a big sign behind the bar warns about!! A sign hand written instead of a government placard that most reputable restaurants post. I would never had ordered a dozen oysters if I had been allowed to sample one first. Both oyster shuckers that night said the owner doesn't allow customers to sample and I think it's because he's either too cheap counting his pennies or he doesn't want the customers to find out how horribly sub par an oyster can actually be!!! Out of the dozen I had five. Out of the five I spit out two because of a sort of rotten/crude oil taste!! All the while the owner is watching his oyster shuckers like a prison guard to make sure a single oyster isn't given away, when he should be worried about someone dying from his filthy product. Char broiled/ grill oysters... no love at all given to them!!! No herbs or spices!!! And I suspect the owner uses margarine instead of real butter because once again too cheap to use butter. They were shriveled up to the size of a freaking peanut. No sauce to complement the peanut either, just an overcooked shell of burned cheese. Only had four of the charbroiled and I had to spit out one of them because it tasted rotten reminiscent of the raw ones I had earlier but just didn't have the crude oil flavoring!! I went here on Thursday for the 1/2 price oysters and had 1/2 dozen of the raw. They were large and served ice-old, everything you'd want your raw oysters to be. I had corn fritters on the side (hush puppies) and they were an alright side. The service was good (the waitress was attentive with refilling the iced tea and pleasant). My mother and I went here some time back and got the chargrilled. They were overcooked a little. I don't know if that is common but I'll try them again and see. The raw were fab. Gumbo very thick and salty. Literally like a thick gravy with chunks of sausage. Excuse me? Ma'am? Where's the chicken? I got a side of red beans (still salty) a side of corn fritters, (they were good but they are not corn fritters, they are hush puppies) a hot sausage poboy with gravy fries and a side of jambalaya. The poboy was perfect! Two patties (this was a Half poboy too! And the gravy fries were delicious. The jambalaya was in edible, mushy and tasted like Tabasco rice. It was one of the only things I have ever sent back. I'll try this place again. Crossed Lake Pontchartrain bridge out of NOLA, heading back to Texas (the long way) in search of a nice hidden gem. Found this place in Convington, LA and thought we we would give it a try. Plenty on the menu without being overwhelming. Prices were very reasonable for fresh seafood! Staff promptly greeted us and arranged for our beverages. My date and I started with a dozen fresh gulf oysters (and received a lagniappe), all sweet and perfect! We then split the soft-shelled crab plate which came with a small salad and fries. We added some red beans & rice and a cup of seafood gumbo. The tender fried crabs were especially delicious! This all turned out to be more than plenty for us ... we were "stuffed"! Sorry we had no room to order the Triple Chocolate Fudge Cake or Pecan Bourbon Pie which we just enjoyed with our eyes. Service, Atmosphere, and Food - All four star!! read more

No butter, no garlic, not extra juice to dip your bread in. Got 2 side salads. Lettuce and cheese, okay... but the worst ranch I've ever had. Then we got crawfish étouffée with fried crawfish tails. Crawfish tails were so bland, no seasoning, decent size but not worth eating. The étouffée was okay. Just okay. And cold. Did I make this known to our waitress? I'm pretty easy when it comes to food and service but Busters fell woefully short on both ends. I would even say to the point of disgusting and a complete waste of money. I had to flag down the server for everything. They would walk right by me and never ask if I needed anything. Waved them down twice just for water! Got the fried oyster Caeser salad and, while there were a good # of bivalves, the breading was so salty, you could not taste the damn oyster! Never again. The owner should be extremely embarrassed taking anyone's hard earned money for this gruel and, Mr Owner, try training your servers! Much of this is just common sense. We eat here all the time and simply love the fresh seafood always cooked to perfection! The best potato salad around!

Overall, very good place to get a good steak in Covington. Great prices. Although, I have only been there for lunch. The wait staff can be a little crass but it adds to the experience.
