I've been hesitant to write a review for Buss Ford because I wanted to make sure my experiences weren't just isolated incidents. Unfortunately, after multiple visits, I feel comfortable saying the issues have been consistent enough to share. I've brought my pickup truck here several times for warranty and recall work. One of my biggest frustrations involved warranty repairs they claimed would not be covered and attempted to charge me regular mechanic rates for. I declined the work, took the truck to another local repair shop, and they were able to complete the repair under warranty without an issue. I also had recall work completed here where the actual issue was technically fixed, but the quality of the work was disappointing. Ever since the repair, grease comes out around the window frame every time I roll the window up or down. It's frustrating to have new problems after bringing a vehicle in for service. I genuinely wish I could leave a better review because they are a longtime community business, but based on my experiences, I would not recommend buying a vehicle here or using their service department. read more

Well, I have to tell you I've been doing business with the Buss family for over 40 years. I recently bought an F450 limited edition for myself, and this last weekend, I purchased a Ford Explorer Platinum for my wife. If I have a question and my favorite salesman Chris isn't available I can count on Seth from the sales department to jump in. He's always easy going and knowledgeable. Cheryl the gatekeeper at the front desk always makes me feel like I'm visiting her home when I'm in for an oil change as I work on my laptop in the front entrance area of the dealership. I like the sunlight in that space . She is always on top of things as this dealership gets a lot of calls and walk in traffic. This week there was a recall for a small part in my car and Buss Ford Lincoln had their tech come to our home in a great mobile unit fully loaded with equipment. Dustin the mechanic also performed an inspection of my entire car as a part of the visit. I don't live in the immediate dealership area, I am about a 40 minute drive from their location. When we called to get my oil change the lady was super nice on the phone. Today we pulled into service and was told to go over to quick lube it is not in service. We walk over to quick lube and the guy was not friendly. Where I purchased my truck, they were awesome, not here. Then I tried to explain that I need a front license plate holder, and he told me to walk to parts, he walked halfway there and pointed. (my mother and I are both handicap) no consideration to that. We walk to parts they said if my truck was a few years older they could help but the bracket I have for the middle of the truck is all they can do. Check Amazon or somewhere nothing we can do. We went back to quick lube, signed the paperwork flew thru it, said sign. We did, then left. As I was eating I get this video of who knows what, some tech mumble brakes look good, tires look good, engine area looks good, then no recommendations to be completed or upsold. then about 15 min later I get a call your truck is ready. I did talk to manager, she asked if I get a survey please give a good score, if you could not give a good score, please let me know, I am the manager and I would like to fix or address any issues. I told her I was unhappy, and I probably will never return not only to service, but that included sales for a new truck or car also if this run around is how your dealership is. She apologized, offered to figure something out if I wanted to wait. Well, I did not want to wait, she should have figured something out and called me later in the day and said if I have time soon please make an appointment and we can get that done for you. (but NO call happened, customer service is not important at this dealership) I really hate to leave this review, but this left as they say a bad taste in my mouth as a new resident that moved 10 minuets away from your dealership. Just purchased a electric Mustang. Our Sales person was top notch (Joe Walker). But as a first time Ford buyer and EV buyer, I was dissatisfied to hear that they were charging $10k OVER. MSRP. They "negotiated" it down to $6k over and we really wanted the car and didn't have the time to order and wait as the car buying process is now played. While I completely understand the low supply and high demand, but paying additional monies in light of the headlines from Ford talking about dealer gouging, left us with a bad taste in our mouth. Service Advisor does not communicate. I brought my car in for a warranty repair on Friday 9/6. . No word from advisor regarding status until 4:00 via at text that the car would not be ready until Monday 9/9. On 9/9 I texted the advisor asking for a reply and confirmation that I did not want the cabin filter repair hinges replaced as he texted me the dash need to be pulled. I called at noon and was told the car would be ready by close of business. When asked what that meant he told me 5:00. At 4:00 PM I was at the dealership only to find my car dashboard, seats and all electronics were on the floor. The advisor was going to call me later in the day to tell me it was delayed. He could not and would not give specifics as to the nature of the repair and time to resolve. THIS DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUCKS !!!! I was stopped by McHenry Police indicating that the loaner car given to me by Buss Ford, was reported stolen off their lot by Drew Buss (Buss Ford Owner) who initially gave me the loaner at the time. I had an opportunity to experience sales and service at Buss after the purchase of a used vehicle. After driving said vehicle for 3 days, a couple issues came up. I contacted my sales contact, and I was scheduled for a service visit. I visited on a Friday, I anticipated 1-2 hours. I was there until 2, ended up leaving with a loaner. The most aggravating part, was the entire service group went to lunch at the same time. So, while they ate, I continued to wait while my car sat with nothing happening. Took forever to get it fixed, all the quarters were gone from his pile of change, a new box of work gloves missing, steering wheel and door panel was left filthy, cab smelled strongly of oil, and they went into the back of the van when all the repairs involved had no need to be in the back of the van with expensive tools and parts. First off, I have to say I agree with other reviews that talked about Jake as a salesperson - he was great. This review is for the service department. I purchased a 2015 Fusion with 24k miles. At 41k check engine light comes on - misfire on multiple cylinders. They "fixed" it by replacing manifold intake and returned it on a Tuesday. By Sunday the check engine light was back on and car back at the dealership. They then "removed dust from spark plugs" and returned. Now the car is running rough and stalling. Why is the car worse now than it was before? This is basically a brand new car and I should NOT be having these kinds of issues. After I finally get them to fix my car I will not be going back to this dealer for service again read more

Had timing chain, cam phazors, valve rocker arms etc..paid $3000 replaced in F150 supercrew - OEM parts only lasted 32,000 miles (almost exactly) then had to replace exactly every part again $3500 this time. Complained to Buss Ford - nothing they could/would do, they told me to call Ford Customer Service. I did, twice, the first time they said they'd get back to me, the second they said nothing they could do - go back to the dealership. Ford doesn't stand behind the parts they make!!! Wrote up an order to purchase a Ford Maverick back in 12/16/2021 (after 2 visits to work out the sale agreement) then I waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, etc. Went in today, almost June of 2022. As my salesman fumbles through file folders, papers, the computer, etc. he can't find the order that I have the paperwork for. He goes to talk to the manager and I wait again, they eventually come back and say "we can't find the order". I should have known from a prior experience when it took them 3 days to fix a simple brake line leak that going there would be a fiasco. Oh, and don't be surprised if you shop and see cars with a "Market Adjustment" added to the sticker price. This was a letter I wrote the dealer about my experience back in 2007. I sent it to the then owner, the service manager, and ford. Only ford sent a canned response. I've since bought 4 more fords (both work and personal) not from these guys..... I recently moved to Mchenry and own a 2002 F250 6.8L 4x4 pickup truck. On September 7th 2007, I brought my truck in for an oil change and for the service department to diagnose and fix a noise. I described the noise as being a real "tinny" metal on metal contact which only happens between 1750 and 2000 RPMs. The noise almost sounds like a loose heat shield. Cy and I touched base the following week. I asked Cy to fix the noise. He believed it was a heat shield. . I stopped in to pickup my truck, but had to wait for a tech to get back from the hospital to finish up my paperwork. After paying the cashier, I found that my truck's battery would not start it. Cy and a mechanic jump started my truck. The next day, I heard the "tinny" noise again, and called Cy, who told me to bring it back in. I began researching this problem both online and with local truck owners. I mentioned to Cy, that it may be the bell housing inspection cover. Cy called me at the end of the day, informing me that the tech could not duplicate the noise. I again mentioned the inspection cover, but he assured me it was tight. We agreed that I would come in the following morning and test drive the truck with the tech. Jason and I drove the truck for about 10 minutes and I was able to produce the noise. I told Jason about the cover. Later that day, another service writer called (cy was out) and told me that they "think" I may have a cracked flex plate and wanted to know if they could drop the transmission. I believe this was a 3+hr job. I asked the service writer what I had originally paid for if the "tinny noise" still wasn't fixed. He said that the tech defiantly fixed some other noises. I came in, picked up my truck, and paid for 1/2 hr of diagnosis which I believe to be wrong. After talking with techs at other local dealerships, other f250 owners, and utilizing online resources, I was pretty sure that this inspection plate was the root of my "tinny noise" I confirmed my suspicions this afternoon. While the bolts were tight, this cover is a very light gauge sheet metal that I could easily move with my finger. (Please see attached pictures) I removed it and proceeded to drive my truck. The noise is gone. I plan to either fabricate a cover made of heavier material, or make a gasket for the cover to prevent metal on metal contact. I'm frustrated with the fact that I paid for incorrect diagnoses as well as incorrect solutions. I'm also frustrated that I told both the service writer and a tech what I thought the problem was, yet neither listened... I sure am glad I did not pay your dealership to drop my transmission. I realize I'm not a high volume customer, but my truck will need service again and sooner or later, I will need a new truck, it's just a shame that I will not be going to my local ford dealer. read more

I simultaneously applied for credit on their website and my credit scored excellent...consequently I was contacted by many local dealerships. Of all the contacts I received, Chris Larson was the most responsive, non pushy, and knowledgeable of all. My experience was very pleasant, and couldn't be happier with the process. It took a few visits...and giving other dealers the chance to best the price...in the end I reached a price with Chris I could live with and walk away satisfied. First of all, a public thank you to Jake. One month ago, I sold my car for scrap metal. I currently live in Louisiana, but my parents back home in Illinois insisted I held off on purchasing a car until I saw "their guy" at Buss Ford the next time I visited. I had reservations on waiting, but if they trusted someone enough to purchase a car through and it'd redeem the boredom of driving it down I-55 to the Gulf of Mexico, I was down. The car buying process: I browsed cars on the dealership website, and Googled independent websites to get a gist of what the feedback was for each make/model/year I saw in my price range. When I arrived, Jake showed me everything I obnoxiously wanted to test drive, and one point he PHYSICALLY RAN to the opposite end of the lot in the 97-degree August heat IN DRESS PANTS to find the Chevy Impala that I was mildly-interested-in-but-ultimately-just-wanted-to-look-at-it-in-case-it-was-special. I was deeply appreciative to Jake's commitment. Some cars on the lot exceeded my expectations from the website description (one I inevitably purchased), and others honestly disappointed me due to previous owner neglect. I quickly appreciated why my parents wanted me to go through Jake; he gave me incredibly straightforward answers to the cars I was test-driving, and he stressed his goal was to simply match me with whatever car made me feel most comfortable. Easy as that, I never felt pressured to browse anything out of my range and got honest feedback on each car. Anyway, after my dad drilled Jake with hundreds of tangential questions at the table, I walked away with a 2005 Volvo S40. Every time I see it from a distance, it makes my heart jump. A car is something you gradually build an emotional connection with, you know? You trust your car to take you down highways to explore new frontiers, to keep people you love safe while building memories with them, and to get away from the agonies of routine. And you SHOULD buy a car from someone that you trust HALF as much as you'll trust the car itself, and I couldn't be happier with what Jake directed me toward. If this is laying it on thick, so what? Buying a car is a major, stressful purchase, and my car makes me happy. A few minor squabbles: 1) Jake said the sound system was great. Then why did I lose the Cubs broadcast on 780AM somewhere around Champaign? 2) Jake claimed Buss Ford takes the time to deep clean every car on the lot, but after driving it down to Louisiana, my Volvo hood was covered in bugs. 3) There's a spider that keeps building a web on my driver-side mirror. There was a potential issue with the car but when discussing price we were told that it would be $500 less if we fixed it ourself vs having them look at it. If we had them look at the issue it would be $500 more. When I questioned why we would have to pay more to "see" if there even was something wrong, after being told how all of the used vehicles were thoroughly inspected and had no issues he became angry with me and said he would just have the price go back up to full price if I didn't like the offer! I will start with purchasing my 2015 Jeep Wrangler in July 2018, on this day everyone was quite kind. Upon my 2nd oil change it was pointed out to me that the rear differential fluid was black and had metal fragments. Still under warranty I called Buss and spoke to Rob who assured me that that was not possible. It was like talking to my ex husband! I called to talk to Jake who sold me my Jeep and asked that I never was connected to Rob again. I brought it in for Rob to personally check it. Alas, I was not a stupid woman yet I received NO apology. I scheduled a time to bring it in. I go in on Monday 2/19 only to be treated as if I was clueless to the service department, once again ALL arrogant men who told me to go to quick lane. Brandon is my saving grace, he was kind and helpful. Isaac not so much, when I picked up my Jeep and asked him about the repair and what could have caused that to happen he responded with " Well it's probably because they are designed to drive in the desert". This answer is off the charts as beyond ridiculous and totally worthless to me. Isaac also said, "Next time this service is on you", really? I left realizing that there were not any men there worth talking to. I also have a bad back and Multiple Sclerosis to deal with and I walk with difficulty as I am in quite a lot of pain that I push through every single day. Jake is amazing! My first car buying experience, 5 years ago, was miserable. I was a 19 year old girl who had no idea what she was doing, and that was surely taken advantage of (extremely high interest rate, paid much more than the car was worth, drove off the lot with an empty gas tank and bald tires- and I had no idea anything was wrong). So, I walked in the doors of Buss Ford last week with great caution. I was so scared that history would repeat itself. I was incredibly wrong! Buss Ford treated me like one of their own, like my opinion mattered. They had MY best interest in mind, which is nearly impossible to find these days. Drew and Dave initially helped me. I was very picky and set on what I wanted. They took my wants and needs into consideration and began our search. They took the time to research the BEST options for me, asking me what I liked or didn't like. We compared multiple models- used, new, base model, bells and whistles. We looked at so many different Ford Fusions- I couldn't believe how different one could be from another! Then Jake stepped in and assisted me in physically looking at my dream car- I have been looking at this car for nearly two years now. He explained every part of the car- he went through all the buttons and touch screen things, cool features, etc for me. I am surprised he didn't lose patience with me- I know I can be a lot to handle! Finally, we made the sale. I received so many incentives and 0% interest... I felt like it was too good to be true! I definitely got my "bang" for my "buck". Even my dad couldn't believe how lucky I was! After the sale was made, I figured that would be the end of my contact with Jake, my salesman. NOPE! He has answered every single question I have sent him since that day, very promptly. He is so helpful! We got remote start installed, ordered custom weather mats, and much more. Plus my first oil change is free! He even assisted me days later on connecting my bluetooth and learning the manual/automatic shifter. He went above and beyond anything I could have ever expected. Needed a recall done on my car called in for service scheduled needed a ride back to work thinking they had a shuttle service they don't they only cover a 5 mile radius I work in Woodstock a 15-20 minute ride down the road. Ended up taking an Uber back to work they called me at 230 saying the recall couldn't be done because they didn't have the parts. I've never had a problem with any other dealership driving 15-20 minutes down the road to work or home, then to call me at 230 saying you didn't have parts ? Shouldn't this have been taken care of before I even brought the car in..... I will not bring my car back for service here. I will take my business somewhere else. read more

I visited to have a 2005 F150 5.4 V8 Sparkplug change at 58k with an oil change total bill was 470.00 with tax not a problem. But I expect as a courtesy a dealership to wash a serviced vehicle. Nope. Nothing exceptional and ever since the job had been done I smelled raw fuel coming into the cabin, this can happen when you do not tighten the sparkplugs well enough and can even be ejected with not being checked. I brought it back to have them check their work. they did that for free but got me for a transflush(not needed) but ok I thought they could redeem themselves on the car wash thing, so I asked if they will wash it "yeah, yeah" Jason the service writer said. So I return to pick up my Ford from a Ford dealership and just like the first time I pay my bill and the cashier points to where she thinks the car is and I am supposed to walk around the building lost to find my unwashed car. Now defeated, I get into my truck and go to adjust the steering wheel back to where it was and the lever comes off in my hand. *&%$! Everyone from service had already gone home at this point so there was no need to ruin anyone elses day. But this made me think to why I had to return in the first place, it was because of something THEY did wrong. And I don't like that feeling of being something you see on dateline of someone creating reasons for you to return to a service department. Instead every service departments plan should be to deliver on great service, make it a knowledgeable experience, let your clients know what to expect and maybe even educate them on why this or any service could help. I arrived at the service garage and no one came to help me as I sat out there for 25 minutes while the people at the desk sat there and just started.. Took 3 hours of waiting just to have my belt replaced. My door won't shut when it's cold, so I have to bunji cord it shut, and they said they could not look at it during my appointment, I would have to schedule a different appointment, very unsafe. This place to me is a joke. Ive never in my life heard someone tell me that for a $5000 car it will last about 6 months, but if I want a car to last longer i need to step up to an $8-$10,000 car. I have dealt with cars my whole life and never bought a car over $5000. The only one that didnt last several years was a $500 car that I bought with a rod knock that I was fully aware of. Please dont act like people are stupid and insult peoples intelligence by spitting out complete and utter lies. Your $5000 cars may be garbage but not everyones are. Thank you read more

Update the car i felt like we were so blessed to get has now need an entire fuel line replacement! We noticed it was leaking gas and suddenly threw a check engine light. Mond u the entire bottom was covered in some sort of coating as to cover up the problem. Lights in the interior need replacement. No spare key. Went to get a spare at Ace and it will cost me $80 for a new one! All before first car payment is even due! Feel very deceived as you can tell from my previous review we were very grateful and felt very pleased with the service. Duped. Like i said all before the first payment was due!! read more

Steer clear from the "Quick" Lane at this location. I have used the Quick Lane franchise at other dealerships and have not had a problem. However, this location is horrible. My husband and I repeatedly wait over an hour for our cars to have standard grease and oil changes. On the last occasion I was there, I had my one year-old child with me and saw that my car was finished so I went in to pay. One of the workers was typing on the computer so I patiently waited for 2-3 minutes before he even acknowledged me. He then stated that he would be with me in a moment and then proceeded to go on the other side of the window and reprimand a worker for an error made. I then had to stand there continuing to wait for another five minutes while he talked about the individual that made the mistake behind his back to another worker. All of this occurred in front of me and other customers. To say that this was unprofessional would be an understatement. Not only was it extremely rude, but very inconsiderate of me waiting with a small child. Finally he came inside and helped me check out. Of course, there was no apology for me waiting for so long. Needless to say, I don't think that we will be going back. I find this incredibly unfortunate because the dealership is wonderful, but this group for your routine maintenance is absolutely horrendous. ***I would like to update my review to reflect that Mr. Buss and the manager of the Quick Lane did reach out to me to discuss my bad experiences at the dealership. The phone conversation I had with Mr. Buss went well. He listened to my concerns, was apologetic, and thanked me for the feedback. I will be returning to see if our conversation leads to any changes in the Quick Lane department. I am eager to see if the professionalism of the staff improves.*** read more
