They said the bumper was damaged and they needed to remove it ($480) and then troubleshoot the electrical system for additional unknown cost after that. My recent service experience with Castle Subaru was the worst I've ever had at a car dealership, and as a result I will never patronize them for service or any new car purchase in the future. I took my Forester to Castle for an out-of-warranty quality issue that Subaru of America (SOA) had already committed to cover prior to my visit. SOA had issued a case number and advised me to take it to any Subaru dealer, provide the case number, and, after confirmation of diagnosis, SOA would approve making the repair at no cost (they assured that any dealer service cost in these cases is handled directly and internally). My mother recommended Castle after having purchased from them multiple vehicles and having them always serviced there. My subsequent service visit at Castle failed profoundly in 3 ways: 1. Long wait without update. I dropped off the car at the appointment time (10:30 a.m.) and was told to expect diagnosis around noon. A loaner car was not offered. Having not heard from the service rep by 4:00 p.m., I finally called and, after a series of holds, was told an email was being sent with a list of "critical repair items" that would need to be addressed urgently. 2. Unnecessary "critical" service items. There was no dialogue with me about the items, and all were marked "critical" in red, totaling about $5,000. One of the sizable items was for a 90K mile service. My car is only at 85K and I drive it about 3,000 miles per year. A visit to another dealer later confirmed none of the items was critical nor necessary at this time. 3. Mishandling the quality issue I brought to have serviced in the first place. The diagnosis was made, but the service manager Brian H. insisted that if I wanted the work done, I would need to pay for the $700 repair myself and pursue a refund with SOA on my own. Though I tried to explain what SOA had advised me, he demonstrated no empathy, refused to follow up with SOA directly, and insisted that only he had the authority to make a "goodwill" repair--something he adamantly refused since I was a new customer. My follow up with SOA the next day confirmed that this was wrong. SOA apologized for my experience with Castle and assured that the customer should never have to hassle with multiple silos within the company organization. I left Castle without having any work done and took it to another Subaru dealer a few days later. That experience was completely different: I was provided a loaner vehicle without asking; multiple follow ups were provided to me on the progress of the repair; I was assured it would be fully covered ("don't worry, we handle this directly with SOA"); and confirmation was made that no other maintenance items were "critical." I truly felt like I was being welcomed into a new family, even though I had never been to that other dealer before. My experience with Castle on the other hand resulted not only in the loss of my potential future service business, but also ended my mom's long-time service and new car-purchase patronage with Castle as well. read more

Took my Subaru in for a low beam headlight replacement and the incompetent tech that replaced the bulb didn't secure it in the headlight assembly housing causing the halogen bulb to partially fall back out of the housing and melt the plastic that holds the bulb in place , Had to replace the whole head light assembly due to the incompetence of the tech involved, DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Sold back to them instead of being paid when i gave them the car said it would be 4 days to pick it up from dealer. 8 days later still no check says they will get back to me then does not. I have to call them then they blow me off! This is not how you do business!! After they get what they want from you it's they can wait till forever. However, before we settled on model and the specific car, Alex got us any model and car we asked for and was ready for any questions with specifics. Let me inform the people of some things that have been left out also. The invoice we have for the engine replacement has CASTLE on the top of it so thank you for trying to say you weren't involved. Personally I think this is a GM problem and you should be trying to help figure this out as opposed to passing blame. You put the bad engine in and can't pass it off like it's out of your hands. Had you sold the car with this "new" engine in it you wouldn't care either? After calling to get the serial number for the engine because according to the warranty company the engine was new (1000 miles on it) so we were going to contact GM since you were finished with us because there should be a basic 3 year warranty on their engine you said it was not readable and weren't willing to give it to us. The first place we brought it before we brought it to you because they were closer to home mentioned it looked like it was scrapped off and I ignored them but now I'm really starting to wonder. What exactly is going on with this engine? Sounds very fishy now that you won't give it us. Even if it has some rust on it you can get it cleaned enough to read it. So you can try to play this off like you guys did nothing wrong but I won't let you lie to the people reading this because they need to know what's really going on. It's the consumers right to know what kind of shady business you are running. read more

What a day this has been. Started out at a different dealership with the same exact Subaru Crosstrek Limited (only 3 in the whole area) and the experience was 'less than ideal'. I decided to call Castle since they had the exact car but they were over an additional hour away. I gave them name, trade in info (VIN) and expectations. I asked them to 'trust then verify' that the trade in was in exactly the condition I stated (it was right down to the amount of tread on the tires). We negotiated a deal on the vehicle we wanted and made the drive up to McHenry. The vehicle was pulled up out front and the salesperson (Brandon) had the deal jacket and the keys sitting on his desk. We took a look at the vehicle and they took a look at ours. Once we were in agreement we began waiting for the finance guy to get his part of the deal done. All in all we were at the dealer for less than two hours, the price agreed on (sticker but nothing more and no add on nonsense like door guards or paint protection) and the trade passed muster we signed and hit the road. Rookie mistake was forgetting the trade in title so we are going back for pickup first thing in the morning and they have already told us they will spend as much time as needed explaining and connecting the tech to my mom's phone. While we were at the dealer they received another inquiry on the vehicle so I was SUPER glad we had negotiated everything in advance and they held it. Nice experience. My only complaint, and that is always the case, is that it takes FOREVER to get into finance and get out the door. read more

Stopped by to see if I could make an appointment for an oil change and also have my battery replaced. The service person said first come first serve and no appointment needed but I should check with parts to see if a battery is available for my make of car. I waited at parts and the parts person looked it up and said they did have a battery for my make of car. As I left the dealership I thought to myself , Why did I have to check to see if a battery was available. Couldn't the service person go wait in line and let me know.
