You know how you force yourself to eat food that isn't good because you paid for it. Well that's what has happened. I went to Bush's after being in the hospital for 18 days because I love the tender rolls. This was my first time going to this one and I also wanted macaroni and cheese also. Like always tenders rolls were on point. I really wish they came with mayonnaise, or barbeque sauce or cheese, but after today I don't know. I ordered a tender roll meal with okra and a side macaroni and cheese. For $3+ they could have done better. The okra is also always good. But the macaroni and cheese is a no for me. Very disappointed. I don't know if it's the noodle or how they made the cheese but SOMETHING tasted scalded. If they do heat their own cheese maybe they burned the bottom and tried to save it or overcooked the noodles. Our server Jose was a sweetheart though. My wife ordered one of every new dessert and left him a tip. Hopefully he doesn't have to split it. But for 2 meals and a extra thigh with desserts, $25+ was a little steep for this order. Still love my tender rolls though. And of course the okra is always fried to perfection and the tea I the best part on a hot day like today. I cannot speak on the ambiance because I did not go into the store. All in all the three stars are really for the tender roll, okra and tea. The cookie tastes like it had been in seran wrap too long or maybe heated in the seran wrap and the apple pie could use more filling. But the macaroni and cheese was not good at all. I have eaten here quite a few times and the food is usually pretty good and fresh. Today was very different. It was raining really hard so I can understand the workers wanting to get the food out and be done. I ordered a 10 piece family meal with 2 sides. The chicken was not so fresh and the potatoes were not mixed right you could still see the powder in it. How the worker couldn't see that when fixing it I don't know. The corn nuggets were pretty fresh and I added a family green bean to it. I took the order back to them and they remade everything. Once I got home and sat down to eat the chicken still tasted like it was reheated and dry and the potatoes and green beans had a burnt taste to them. Love love love Bush's chicken! The only reason I'm not giving them the full 5 stars is the cleanliness of the dining room. I found it to be a little dirty and yucky. That being said, the food and service was great. The employees at Bush's are always very friendly and helpful. It's a little surprising considering it's mostly teenagers. We placed a rather large order. They said they'd bring it out to us including our drinks. We found a seat at one of their large round tables. The table was a little dirty and the floor needed some attention. Our food was out in a few minutes. I had the 4 piece tender meal with fries. I don't know what it is about Bush's chicken but I can never seem to find fried chicken that lives up to their flavor. The white meat is juicy and delicious and the breaking is perfectly flavorful and crispy. The plates come with a roll and gravy. Went to bushes drive thru... this guy helped us he forgets the jalapeños, spoon for mash potatoes and napkins. You should always check before tipping/leaving. We noticed it after tipping and driving off but we are still in the parking lot so we went around the building and back in line. So I went to Bushes Chicken on 31st street in Temple and I didn't have the best experience while placing my order and receiving my order. The hispanic heavy set girl that took my order didn't seem like she wanted to be there because she had this bothered face and a bad attitude. After placing my order I realized that I could have done the family picnic meal, which she never brought it to my attention. If she would have I would have ordered the family picnic meal instead of what I have ordered because it was basically the same thing except I paid more. Then after recieving my order I had to double check that I recieved everything I had ordered. I then told the girl that I was missing a family size gravy, straws, and honey.
