We got it all done in one intense work session. Tony is a can-do guy (as opposed to some other cabinet shops that got a sense of my small project and turned up their noses at my small budget). He bid it for time plus materials--actually only the labor, because I got the materials myself. But he made good on his estimate, and since I did part of the work, he even gave me a small discount (and I got covered in sawdust). Thanks, Tony et al. I'll be back. Recommended... 4

I write this with mixed emotions and somewhat of a heavy heart. Let's start off with the good…read more First off, workmanship is top notch. We ordered custom cabinets to replace those in our kitchen that were damaged from a pipe rupture under the house. No doubt that Tony has his $hit together when it comes to designing and building. The construction / craftsmanship was unparalleled to say the least. Also did everything to accommodate our schedule, especially since we were dealing with insurance reimbursement, (much of which, as of this writing, we have still yet to see). The cost was expectedly high, especially since he came highly recommended from a family member. I don't mind paying top dolla... That I can deal with... As long as you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, that was where the commitment to excellence ended. The issues arose shortly after the initial installation. Now I must preface this by saying the wifey has a fine eye and is a perfectionist, (hence, Moi, lol). So as we began to inspect, she and I, (mostly she tho), noticed lots of small imperfections. Thin spots in the finish, small dents in the doors, missing shelves etc. We brought these issues up, (even though some of them we could live as they were minute in nature). But, when you pay upwards of $10K for custom cabinetry in a relatively small kitchen, it's not too far out of the realm of expectations to get what you pay for, right? So, in a return visit from WCM to discuss and "rectify" the errors, I pointed out all the others "defects" we had not previously mentioned. Little things like nail holes in the crown molding that weren't finished, small gaps in between the crown molding and ceiling, light spots in the finish, etc. The response I got to those was "oh, that will require a painter to finish... I don't do that!!! Who did your crown molding on the ceiling"? And then, after telling him my drywall guy did the ceilings / crown molding on the recessed lighting, (and, while he handed me a caulking tube), I got a "you just need to fill it in and paint it" response!!! Really? I think I had that one figured out already... Personally, I, (we), thought that was part of what we paid for, right? Apparently it wasn't as he insisted I finish it and wanted final payment. Oh Hell to the NO!!! The last little kicker was the door handles. Seriously, we thought someone extremely visually challenged installed them!!! About 85% of them were installed uneven, crooked or both. Really? Even my old blind a$$ could see that... I mean how much does a level cost? Hell... I have a ton of them in my garage AND I know how to use them. It pained me to think that he felt that type of finishing and job closure was acceptable because he is a nice enough guy. Ultimately, we got tired of dealing with the BS and just wanted to move on... Heck, my granite guy, (see Seven Stones review), is coming in this week to finalize granite and backsplash so we can hopefully get back to some semblance of normalcy soon. HIS motto is "I just want you to be happy". Hear that? I just want you to be happy... So... I ultimately corrected nearly all of their mistakes myself. Me, finishing off the "mistakes", took about four hours max. But WCM did finish up the door that he messed up trying to fix onsite, and bring my missing shelves home where they belong. BTW... Now the cabinets look great!!! But I have to take a lot of that credit too... Like I said... Craftsmanship and construction of the cabinets themselves are definitely 5 star worthy, no doubt. But, the small attention to detail, (1 star), left me feeling like I had been screwed. Much like my cabinet doors and door handles.

It took a few exorbitant estimates before I thought to ask who did the work at their house. A hole in the stucco from an old dryer vent was patched as well as some cracks. The wooden eaves were painted. They even filled in divots in the eaves left by a prior contractor. This had been an eyesore which had been bugging me for the last 3 years. Bid and Planning We just finished our kitchen and bedroom remodel, and we highly recommend Gilbert and his team at Rocha Construction. We got 3 bids for our kitchen remodel, and after meeting with Gilbert, we felt confident in our decision to go with him and his team. Gustavo did our estimate and quote, and Gilbert spent time going through the bid line by line to fully explain the ins and outs of our project. We got to learn his life story, how he got into construction, and meeting him solidified our decision that we will be in good hands. We did a few pre-planning things (design and permits) on our own, but realized after that we should have had Rocha Construction do our entire project from A to Z. Demo/Construction Throughout the entire process, communication was prompt with regular check-ins. Gilbert is honest, very knowledgeable and transparent, which speaks to his character and integrity. The entire demo/construction took 12 weeks and the team worked hard to finish on time. They did a great job prepping the house for demo, which made the dust manageable and not as horrible as everyone warned us. Every step of the way, we were happy with the quality and craftsmanship of their work, as there were no short cuts taken. When things did come up, Gilbert and Maria were quick to resolve it to ensure our satisfaction. Final thoughts We understand that mistakes, hiccups, and delays are normal during any renovation, but what really mattered was how Gilbert and his team handled it. Their attitude, accountability, and willingness to explore and execute solutions for us was what impressed us most. All of Gilbert's team (Maria, Marvin, Geraldo, Jose Guerra, Gustavo) and his subs (Diego - electrical, Yoni - tile, Luis - countertop fabrication, Mario - paint, Eduardo - plumbing) were great - they treated our home like their own and cleaned up their work areas after each day. They weren't just there to complete a job, they took pride in their work, went the extra mile to ensure our satisfaction down to the little detail. Everyone was respectful, kind, and skilled. All of the reviews about Rocha Construction are accurate, and we are so happy with our new kitchen and bedroom. We highly recommend Rocha Construction!

Let me add that we previously had the other 3 balconies done in 2022. These other 3 we took the lead on organizing the different contractors for the different work (i.e., demo, structure, electrical, plumbing, railings, flooring, stucco etc). The goal this time was not to be involved and have Rocha take point. Initially, it felt like we had made a good choice, but then we had a pause in having work done. Upon checking in we learned Gilbert was in the hospital. His wife Marie assisted with getting work moving forward. Gilbert was not seen for about 6 weeks. And during this time we had many days when no work was done. Once Gilbert was back he was not the same. We had to spend many hours tracking work and what needed to be done to keep the project moving, along with the bookkeeping, when he asked for a large amount over what was owed. The project took longer than initially projected, which we were ok with to get a good end product. Once the balconies were finished, final payment made, we asked for warranty information, Gilbert Rocha said he would forward. Warranty information was never received after multiple emails requesting. Not even 6 months later our railings are rusting at the welding joints. Gilbert Rocha's emails bounce back and the numbers are not in service. He may be out of business, but we still deserve to have a warranty to have the safety of railings corrected.

One plumber could install a gas line only, another plumber could install a gas line and the gas cooktop but not the hood, and an appliance installation technician could not install the cooktop because he could not cut into the existing granite top. So I found Max of MRI Construction and Remodeling on Yelp, and he said that he could do the work within that original scope -- cooktop, hood, and gas line -- but that we should anticipate a backup plan in case the granite cracked during installation. Because we plan to live in this house for as long as possible, we decided to go through a full kitchen renovation. We had a prior experience with another general contractor who was impossible to get a hold of and who could not ensure the quality of the subcontractors he hired, and interviewed another general contractor who gave us the impression that we would have to engage with suppliers and subcontractors more than seemed feasible. We are happy to say that we just finished our kitchen renovation last week! And it was finished a week earlier than scheduled. We are thankful to Max and his team of subcontractors! We are really happy with the final kitchen, given how much we cook at home. And surprisingly the process was easy despite its size and time of 6 weeks. Max has the strengths and qualities you want for your construction projects: he's incredibly responsive, honest and communicative, and willing and able to troubleshoot issues that come up, as they invariably do, both small and large. He makes recommendations if you ask and gives you options for decisions for which there are too many options. He works with an amazing group of subcontractors who are experts in their craft. There was an exception with one subcontractor but Max was able to get that course-corrected so that the project finished strong. We appreciate his integrity and his willingness to ensure that the project meets your needs and expectations. His bid was in line with the scope of work and very detailed and importanly his management experience and the level of communication were important factors in our decision. Communication continued to be excellent and responsive. This was an extensive remodel including taking out old plaster popcorn ceilings and walls and completely redoing a galley kitchen and two bathrooms with updated plumbing, electrical, insulation and mechanical systems. I was especially impressed with the the highly skilled, conscientous and thorough subs for all of the critical trades especially drywall and painting, cabinetry, flooring and finish work, tile, electrical, plumbing plus personnel for some specialty work. The result was a satisfactory finished project and I would use MRI again for a project of this size. I am doing some final DIY on the project (locks, bathroom mirrors, etc) and hope to upload more pix later. Max was very helpful with some of the unforeseen issues, large and small that came along and was patient and flexible managing the trades schedules and also keeping us on task with selecting finishes and accessories. The project ended up taking a couple of more weeks than layed out in the contract timeline due to a couple of critical issues with some beams, asbestos ducts, termite treatment, but was pretty much on track as estimated.

Stucco and color coat. David said "we've been doing this over 20 years. We could do it in our sleep". Well from bead blast to what they considered finished, this was a train wreck! Run, do not walk from this company. Read all the other reviews which are just as bad as mine. I was also told by Jason if I took my original one star review down he would "take care of it". We agreed (stupidly) to allow them to use one wall as a test wall. 8 layers of "glue" and color coat changed nothing. It was bad prep from the head blast that left uneven surfaces so I have a leopard house. Then they were going to "stain" the stucco! Their choice was Acribond from Vista. I spoke to the expert at Vista and said "we make paint and only paint. Acribond is a water thinned paint". So CCS's website says to never paint stucco. Hmmmm. Now I have one 1/2 painted test wall and 10 months later they never fixed a damn thing, and all of their work is cracked and now showing the old color. Absolutely worthless company run by thieves.

They brought back the signature curves that make our house so special. One of our requests was to build a rounded hallway to separate the guest room from the rest of the house and they absolutely nailed it, even bringing in tons of natural light. We also asked for curved awnings to protect the new windows and doors from the rain, since our flat roof doesn't allow for gutters. They executed it beautifully and even added lighting under the garage awnings, which was a thoughtful touch. During the renovation, we ran into mold and water damage. LVL gave us a very fair price to remove the damaged materials and rebuild the walls. We also had them replace the roof due to the water issues, and once again, they delivered excellent work. They replaced all the baseboards throughout the house and painted everything inside and out. I had always dreamed of having a Dutch door in the kitchen, and they made it happen, from sourcing it to installing and painting it to match the new windows they had already put in. They repainted the kitchen cabinets and installed new tile, and the result is really nice. We couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. I truly can't recommend their work highly enough!

It was affordable and it would be free if you end up going with MDM for your remodel. Mike was able to get the renderings to me very quickly and made adjustments whenever we wanted to change something. Seeing the details of the renderings really brought what we were envisioning to life and helped with the design process. Fast forward to beginning of demo/construction, Mike's employees were impressively fast and efficient at their jobs, but what really impressed me was how clean they kept our property after each day of work. And that stated true throughout the entire process of our 7 month renovation. During construction, if there were any last minute changes, Mike would always try to cater to our needs whenever possible. Even if subcontractors made mistakes with anything, Mike would make sure it is fixed and perfect right away. Keep in mind, you can't rely on Mike for everything (as much as you might want to). You really do have to do your research (in terms of design, finishing materials, sourcing those materials, and getting them delivered on time) and know exactly what you want and how you want it, that way, Mike can plan and put into action what needs to be done. After this entire process, we are extremely happy we got this project completed with MDM. What really sets them apart is the quality of work, dependability, and the great people that work for MDM. The same same day, received a response from Elena (office manager) stating "we are booked until September 21st and not accepting new project but we will put you on our waiting list". "Our team will contact you in case of any cancellations". After patiently waiting, 2-1/2 months, on September 29th, I received an update from Elena stating "Good morning Jeff!!! We are looking for a new project starting in November. Please leave us a note with the property address and your email. We will reach out to you after 10/10". So I did just that only to receive an immediate reply "Unfortunately, we are unable to help you because your zip code 90250 is outside our service area". This was very disturbing as we've been waiting 2-1/2 months and if this was known, we would have contacted another construction company. I responded to Elena "that is interesting, my home is 6.5 miles from Pulsar and clearly within your service area, per your website map". Elena replied "we can't consider your project since it is territorially located in Los Angeles". I explained to Elena, this is absolutely false as my Fusion at Southbay home with Hawthorne zip code 90250 is an "incorporated" city in LA county, the same as Manhattan, Redondo and Hermosa - in which my home literally borders MB/RB directly across Aviation Blvd. I then texted her all of the supporting screen shots (including map area of my home to Pulsar), Pulsar's website stating "We specialize in serving the SOUTH BAY of Los Angeles for 9 years".
